    As a fellow Domane rider , I love your videos.
    Your a class act John, as proven by your courtesy of replying to every comment left on your channel. A TH-cam rarity!
    Please don’t ever post a video without your trademark line “with that being said” included somewhere in it! I’d be disappointed!

    Great video John👍yesterday i went to my local bike shop for a chain cleaner for my xc mtb! Ended up putting a deposit on a Domane lol. I saw the bike and asked to try it out for size. Told the guy I'd think about! As soon as I left the shop I looked for some reviews. Found your video🙏 went back in to the shop and put my money down. Cant wait to pick it up next week. Good review and Video John. I have a Domane SL5 2020 and love to ride 25 miles a day 7 days a week. With the advice from Sales manager, North County San Diego I bought Aeolus Pro 3V and put 32C Gator Skin tires on and the SL5 now weighs 2 lbs less AND the rim also turned the 32C into 35C because the Pro 3V has 25mm rim width! Even @ 100psi, the ride is superbly stable especially around corners. Don’t have to shift gears going up 5% grade any more. Acceleration on flats from 15 to 20 mph is exhilarating. I’m in my retirement years so comfortable ride is a must have.

      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s awesome and pretty good upgrades! The fact that you have the opportunity to ride 7 days a week is also pretty neat. Also, happy retirement and sounds like you are doing retirement right by enjoying the things you enjoy doing.

    I recently switched from an old aluminum road bike to a new carbon hybrid and instantly the pains in my back, shoulders and neck disappeared. Yay! I don't know which is most important, the bigger tires, the carbon frame, the more upright stance, or the "future shock" in the head tube. One or more of them brought about a very welcome change.
    Great to hear an agressive, performance-focussed rider like you reminding us of the importance of comfort.

    Great video. May I suggest a video about the gear or equipment a new rider should get. I’m a new rider, I don’t even have a helmet yet or lights. Mainly because I’m not sure which one to get. Also it’s hard for me to ride long because my butt starts to hurt. Maybe I should get one of those gel undies or something.

    Very nice presentation of what keeps us going and how an endurance geometry can keep us in the saddle. I ride an OPEN WI.de because I can put wide, supple tires on it and that coupled with the slacked out geometry let’s me go for hours on gravel or road (38-55mm). I can use this as a fast road bike using 38mm slicks, but I find the Domane is excellent in all the right places as have as my go to road bike. Thanks for such a nice video - I enjoyed it.

Do u feel any differences between the two when you just seat on them given they have the same geometry and dimensions? Thanks.

    The integrated seat post is not the best design in the world since sand, dust and mud can easily get between the seat post and the frame. De decoupler also needs some attention. I did a lot of gravel rides with mine and it needed already to be serviced 3 times. The 105 group works very well and doesn't need any attention 👌. I ride mine with Pirelli Cinturato Gravel M 40mm's. It works but it really is the max. These are the best gravel tires available on the marked for a descent price and I tried quite a few different tires.
    The Shimano shifters started rattling after 5000km's and nothing can be done about it 😪.
    The storage compartment is great and the excess panel doesn't rattle even after 15000km's of gravel 👍.

The differences occur in the SL series of both bikes, but the ALR 4/5 and AL 4/5 are virtually the same bike. 99spokes.com/compare?bikes=trek-domane-al-5-disc-2021,trek-checkpoint-alr-5-2021

    • @johnmanuel7561

      I have not rode the Emonda. And pretty much it comes down to a couple main things. What time of riding do you do? More climbing = Emonda. More distance = Domane. And the other main point is are you ok with a lighter ride at the cost of more comfort. These two main things I would tell someone to consider when deciding between the bikes.

Thanks for taking the time

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the Domane/endurance, is easier on your bike than the other road bikes, however it’s still a road bike. You may want to look at a hybrid bike if the back pain is too severe. Good things about bikes right now, you can sell for close to what you paid for (if you can find a bike). So if you don’t like it and want something with a little more speed, than you should give that a try. Otherwise, the Domane does pride itself in comfort and if the road bike geometry is not too bad on the bike, you will probably enjoy the Domane.

    • @ichirofakename

      Another option, since as a commuter maybe you aren't too focussed on performance, sticking with Trek, would be the FX line.

      You might think of looking into the FX line at trek. FX Sport Carbon 4 is a little more than a Domane AL4 if you want the bike to be quick but upright. You could also look at some of the e-bike offerings. They're great for commuting.

    Helpful info. Looking at either a Domane SL5 or 6. Would you be compelled to chose one over the other? I guess the main (only?) difference is the 105 vs. Ultegra. I'm just a casual rider so not sure I need 11 gears vs. 10. I also heard 105 holds up by far the best. I heard that Shimano just released a new 12 gear group set.
    Good tip about the mountain bike shoes/pedals- seems practical. In that video, I like how you past the guy on the moped! With the gearing, these things go pretty fast!

      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A few more questions for you. Is the speed difference between the domane and emonda significant or noticeable? Do you find it hard to keep up with faster bikes? Do you usually ride in small or large groups?

    • @johnmanuel7561
      @johnmanuel7561  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Somewhat complicated, butAs far as speed, it depends what type of riding you are doing. If all things are equal as far as rider and effort, If you are doing a lot of hills, than it’s emonda. If you are going down hill or flats, then the heavier bike, with equal tires, will “generally” be faster. That’s why the “fast bike” madone is heavier, to a certain degree. I usually ride either solo or with 1-2 people. I do large groups occasionally and no I don’t have an issue keeping up. I’m usually leading. But that honestly has more to do with conditioning of the rider.

    Hey John. I have a buddy who has the Domane. I will admit it is a beast. I myself have the Canyon Endurace. Concerning pain, bike fit is the key. Most new riders make the mistake of buying a bike then getting a bike fit to fit the bike. I think it should be the opposite. Get the fit first then buy that bike that fit those parameters. That's an invaluable expense in the end of it all. As far as pain goes. Muscle pain is a good thing, joint pain is not. Which brings us back to getting a professional bike fit.
