I picked these up a couple months ago and since, I’ve seen Z’s review and now yours and I feel even better about them. It took me so long to find a set of minimal semi-open back headphones or headset and these were just about a unicorn for me. I picked up an extra pair during Drops audio week just in case.

I actually very much enjoy listening to music on them. What you said about them not being on the immersive side for gaming is very true, which is why I especially like them for music, and less for gaming. But technically they do perform great in gaming like you mentioned.

Great review man, you are killing it lately in terms of reviewing currently relevant stuff.
I previously owned and loved the HD 598, but once I got the 58x I ended up selling it. The 58x lacks in soundstage vs the 598, but its superior in everything else. For gaming, its the best competitive fps headphone I've ever used. I also have and love the X2HR for that wide "immersive" feeling you were talking about. Still I'm interested in the PC37x for the mic and headset simplicity- how similar is it to the 598? If its really basically a 598 in disguise its a steal for $100.

I know there are some sound differences between open and closed back so it's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison. But which one of these sound better for gaming (focused on imaging/directional noise) overall, the Sennheiser PC37X or Cooler Master MH751/2?

    • @nt14206
      @nt14206 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

For directional audio to pinpoint noises, usually open back does that better. I haven't seen the cooler master but if it's on par with, choose which you like. Zeos said he liked the sound of CM on amazon reviews, not sure about mic. The pc37x is also $80 if you use sign up $20 bonus on drop website.

Completely anecdotal, but in BL3 the forums recommend to turn it on if dialogue from only L/R bothers you, BUT, I've found the game audio engine's "hyper-directional" nature actually helps when trying to identify where you're being shot from. It's a trade-off, basically.

The Stash Master my first setup I had was the PC37X/HD58X with sound blaster g6 using scout mode. My first attempt at any setup and I did very much enjoy it. However, with the G6 I didn’t feel as if there was good sound imaging with scout mode. Yes it had a strong sound stage and it amplified certain sounds but at times it was hard to tell how close or exactly where that sound was coming from especially with 7.1 spatial sound. My current setup is with the same headphones using a Schiit Hel and no spatial sound. I will never go back to the g6. I found myself not even using the gaming features it had or the eq presets. I tried using Atmos, Sonic, and DTS with Schiit Hel but i quickly turned them off. Just wasn’t producing a good sound stage or quality sound for me. Just my experience. Schiit Hel with PC37X/HD58X no spatial sound. Straight out of the box; No apps or Eq presets/scout mode/7.1 and it was the best experience while gaming and listening to music for me

If you mean immersive in terms of sound, then open-back headphones have a bigger soundstage than closed-back (99%), which means that they make the game feel WIDER and bigger. open-back headphones in RPG games like witcher will make the sound in the game sound much farther away compared to the sound coming from just you're left and right ears on closed-back. If you want to know more on this, id search up closed-back headphones on youtube

There's a clear separation between the huge bass boost in the sub bass and the rest of the FR since there's also a sizeable dip at 200 Hz for the DT770, so the DT880 is what you want for gaming if you're going Beyer anyway

@@erosandolina4785 Hey man, have had them now several days and yes, buy these. Huge improvement in sound and locating enemies over the GSP500's, lighter and more comfortable too, especially once the headband breaks in. Love them. These plus the Fulla 3 and the new THX spatial sound app is bliss. That's the only spatial sound app I think is any good. Free trial up now and the apps only been out a few days. I tried about a half dozen and they all sounded like crap (aside from games designed for dolby atmos). The thx app is actually legit even for games like fortnite known for shit sound! I'll be buying it when the trial is over for sure. Oh you have to go to Razor.com to get it fyi.

Does the mic pickup sounds when you max out the volume on these? My Sennheiser Game One does...
What upgrade would you recommend on a ~$300 budget for 50-50 music-gaming (mic included)?
    Thanks!

Still waiting for your next video elaborating on good imaging open back headsets for gaming that go above the pc37x and hd598x.
I can spend more than $400 but no more than $1100.
Right between baseline and insane is what I'm going for. Like 4-6 for the cans and 4-5 for the dac/amp.

Joshua, I'm a Battlefield main and want to get a major audio upgrade. Was thinking the Schiit Hel and a good headset up to ~$450 but I don't know what to get because I'm a noob trying to get into audiophilia on the gaming side of things. What should I prioritize and do you have a list of recommendations for my use case? I posted on r/HeadphoneAdvice and was recommended the AKG K712 Pro and the DT990 Premium. After watching your videos, the Modhouse Argons caught my eye. I also don't want something too heavy. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

The PC37x is the PC373D minus the kinda poor quality USB soundcard. The PC373D is a game one with a USB soundcard. So the PC37x is a Game One. So you get what ever is cheapest in your country.
The PC37x/Game One uses the 598/558 driver, with a tuning closer to the HD558. Its on the warmer and mid forward side with a focus more on soundstage over imaging. While the HD599(I’m just going too use the current versions for comparison) is bright and focused on imaging. While the HD559 is more warm and soundstage focused. The PC37x is kinda between them leaning more 559. All 3 are good but just different.
The HD599 imo is better for comp FPS, but the less than spectacular soundstage can hurt you in many games. It’s also not what I’d call balanced as it’s bright. The PC37x sacrifices some of that brightness, detail and imaging for a bit of warmth and imaging making it a more balanced sound and it works for FPS in more games.
But the killer aspect of the PC37x is it is a hd559 tunes more for gaming or a HD599 tunes more for balanced sound. But you get this at $120usd. The mic is great and it’s just a killer value.
It’s not perfect for everyone. Some people will prefer something less warm for FPS. But this imo is the perfect balance of gaming performance and still being warm and enjoyable.
From comp FPS to music performance I personally rank the Sennheiser line up this way.
    HD599 > PC37X > HD559 > HD58x > HD6XX
The part where you say, you can preform in a game no matter what you use based on an understanding of how the games sound engine works is so spot on. I’ve been saying this for years.
    Love your videos.

    eq for gaming is EAF.

  • @jackofblades

2:30 BUT if you just want mid and no lows or highs you can EQ it... peace equalizer let´s you turn on a predifined EQ automaticly to certain output when certain application is opened: prnt.sc/qiywty
so for me, there's no point of buying this bcaus i can have a grat overall headphone and then eq if nessesary for my needs: music, movie, games, altough i don´t recoment to cut off low and high for gaming unless you want to go pro in shooters, it's very unpleasant sounding.

I've seen that both sounds are good but haven't seen mic reviews of CM. The pc37X is also open back so that might be better for FPS games but if you're looking for sound isolation then the CM would be better.
