    They both have same exact speakers...I wish I didn't spend so much on the 38 since I already had the game one. I literally can't tell one even slight difference in the sound quality..if someone walked up behind me and put them on my head I wouldn't be able to tell you which one was which as far as sound if my life depended on it!! Both great but I advise if you already have the game one don't wast your money on the 38..you basically already have it!! Unless you just like the side wire mesh look!

    I was looking for a while for a comparison between the Game One/pc37x and the new pc38x but none of the "big" reviewers made one.
    I guess im going to buy the Game One, because its seems a bit risky with the shipping to Germany, paying 185$ in total (40$ shipping lol) and having the chance of getting a broken or disfunctional headset with the struggle of sending it back.
    Greetings from Germany :)

      Hey Matt, have you ever used the GSP 500’s? Im currently using the Astro a50’s and even though they sound great, they kinda fall in the same bullshit that the SteelSeries do, sound cuts in and out every 1-2 minutes, have had connection issues with them, my voice echos back into the headset.. just not what I wanted for 279.99

    • @MercuryTV
      @MercuryTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So I have used the GSP500s over one weekend when my buddy let me use them. I liked the audio, hated the fit. That’s why I absolutely recommend the PC38x from Massdrop - they have the audio drivers from the GSP500 with the comfort of the Game Ones. However, both those sets I’m talking about are open back, so if you haven’t used them before they will definitely sound “different” than the closed back A50s.

      @@MercuryTV well shit, I don’t want to loose any sound quality.. I didn’t realize the open back made that much of a difference

    • @MercuryTV
      @MercuryTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don’t necessarily lose any, it’s just very different. More open, wider soundstage. You can hear yourself talk at all times. No noise cancellation. Less bass (ie not nearly as BOOMY) but it’s cleaner. Once I went open back I never went back. If you game in a noisy environment and need isolation, stay with closed back.

Been using the Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME since... 2011 I think? And yeah they have lasted that long so when it comes to build quality, believe it when someone sais they're good :P I only upgraded because all those years of wear and tear they finally start to become feeling abit loose here and there and the chushion is starting to show it's been through alot. I'm disappointed because there's no noticeable difference between these and my Game Ones. I feel like I've wasted £150 because I could have easily just continued using my Game Ones & wouldn't be at a loss. This comes from a man who has owned several headphones. My Game Ones now live in my drawer as my backups. For my PC, I use Logitech's Wireless G733s - these are great too, good mic & sound quality and much more affordable - would recommend!

      @@simbathegoat2364 I play on PC. The a50s are incredible on pc, but you need to download a preset by Zalias (Zeference). It’ll pop up if you google it. The pc38x sounds great but the volume is low. My motherboard is only a year old so I don’t know what the issue was. I ended up buying the Soundblaster g6 gaming dac and I used the COD preset provided in the gaming dac software. I just plugged in the pc38x into the dac. It’s great! I would say that the footsteps on both are the best I’ve heard but I feel the directional audio is slightly better on the a50. Maybe I need to play with the settings more on the gaming dac. Please take this with a grain of salt since I’m not playing on console. I know both work on console. I also know the gaming dac works on console. I hope this helps at least a little.

    I've used Sennheiser for 20 years at this point. Over 10 of those have been this style. Sennheiser has released this shape with various different specs but they feel the same. I think it started with the PC360. This is one of those "over ear" headsets you can use all day and never feel it. I've only had to replace them over the years a few times because I tend to drop them a bunch or the cushons have been worn out. My current headset is gameone, it's a great headset, but I wouldn't recommend it for MP games, for some odd reason, it's hard to distinguish sound location with this headset, for example, if you are inside a game, the sound that comes from the top and the bottom sounds the same, I used to own cheap $15 with no bass and I was able to accurate pinpoint the sound location.
    But anyway, It's still my daily use even though I bought dt770 250 ohm last year as I don't play competitive MP games.
    The dt770 250 for anyone who is curious is just too bright. it will pearce your ears. I would have to lower the top frequency to make it usable using the windows sound equalizer.

    I have been using gsp 500 and I can confirm the comfort is not the best, but man oh man do the gsp 500 sound so great (u need a DAC tho since its not loud enough from motherboard output) and If he is telling pc38x has the same driver, you better believe its almost the best gaming specific headset you can buy in the market period
    I have used various and I mean Various headsets for gaming on a competitive level (some eg are Cloud stinger, Cloud alpha, alpha s closest to the best, revolver, hs50, logitech something they are good, gsp 500, senheiser hd400s, blacksharkv2 pro, coolermaster mh650) and the top tier list for me would be in terms of sound quality alone and lows mids highs differentiation
    PC38X = GSP 500 with a dac > Blackshark v2 pro wireless > hyperx cloud alpha S while using the included soundcard
    I wrote this just to give an idea to people who are looking to play competitively valorant or csgo
    If you want the best open back get PC38X since better comfort
    If you want the best closed back get blackshark v2 pro (if wireless) or Hyerx Alpha S (if wired)
    Hope this helped, and thanks Mercury_TV for the great review
    Would also like to mention, EPOS have their newer H6 Pro lineup ehich is way more customizable with the removable mic and great seal and punchy bass with open + close back combo, haven't used but they are probably better than this pc38x (probably need a dac)
    And if you have s higher budget, would highly recommend baradynamic mmx 150 (i am going to buy it soon but reviews wise they are literally the best inmersive experience so far)

    I don't need the mic that the 38x has, as I have an external one but based solely off sound in comparison to the game ones do you recommend I go with the 38x still or go for a more audiophile like headphone? Also, does the wire on the 38x fit the game ones? My game ones wire broke after 5 ish years which is the only reason I want to replace them, and if I was to order the 38x I would like to compare them. I could get a replacement wire that is around $40 for my game ones, but being that it's so expensive for just the wire, I have been just thinking about upgrading. That being said excluding the mic, and just based of sound quality, is the 38x worth buying over a new wire. Thank you

    Wanted to ask a question about the Game One in case you or someone else on here might have run into a similar issue, because I can only find two other posts about this on Reddit. The issue I'm having is that the mic is picking up the audio from the headphones, unless I turn the audio way down. There's also this echo in the background that I think might be just the earpads brushing against my ears? I'm not really tech-savvy or an audiophile but it's been a bothersome problem and none of the reviews I watched seem to mention it, so I'm not sure whether I'm one of the very few people having this issue or if it's just something I need to adjust the volume to avoid. Any help or advice is appreciated, thanks in advance!

    I just upgraded from the A40s w/ Mixamp Pro (newer version) to the PC 38x headset myself. I am curious if you still connect your PC 38x headset through your Astro mixamp? This is my first non Astro gaming headset ill be using on PC & like yourself I really rely on the Mixamp right dial & Microphone settings in the software to adjust in party chat/game audio balance on the fly. I guess my questions are :
    - Do you plug the PC 38X into your Astro Mixamp for mic/chat CONTROLS currently?
    - If so, does the mixamp presets degrade or alter the natural intended audio coming from PC 38X drivers?
    - If the first two questions no longer apply, what did you end up switching to & how are you liking the change?
    My bad if I'm tossing to many questions at you in one go. After watching your earlier Mixamp Pro TR review & headset comparison video that basically matched my thoughts & how I use it dead on. Immediately afterwards in the recommended videos & I see a thumbnail of my new headset that just ordered & am switching to. I click on it & immediately thought, awesome it's the same dude I just watched do a review on the same hardware I've been rocking up till now. Now he's reviewing his new headset same as mine that were delivered earlier today , I like his style. Considering you've clearly got more knowledge & experience having gone through the exact same scenarios I am currently wrestling with. Why not ask him & see if he's got any wisdom he'd be willing to share regarding the questions listed above whenever you have the time. Any other potential tips or advise would be welcome & greatly appreciated as well, thanks again.

    Awesome Content, seriously adorable kid as well.

      Hey bud. First off, thanks for the support and kind words. Now, to your questions:
      1. Yes, I have the PC38X plugged into my Astro Mixamp. I love it, it has great sound, and more importantly I HAVE to have the chat/volume mixer for Discord and all the games I play.
      2. No, so far I have noticed zero degradation in the natural audio. If anything, I think it's a hint better with the Mixamp.
      I think you will love that setup, especially if you ever used the Game One's with the amp. My only real gripe is that the cable feels a little short, so desk mobility is limited, but it's not a huge deal by any means.

      I was in the same boat. I bought the 37x at the discount, primarily because they are all black. I don’t like the yellow on the 38x. My plan will be to get the 38x some day if they do a refresh in a different color scheme. Do you console game at all? 37x are not quite loud enough for me plugged into ps5 controller and pc MB. So, I just bought a g3 USB amp/dac (another $50 getting closer to Pc38x anyways). That’s another thing the you tubers talk about “driveability” - Do you notice a volume difference between game one and Pc38x? Use an amp? I have been sweating this choice, spending too much brain power on it - so thanks for the honest opinion. I subbed - dad/husband, provider, gamer here as well :). • @MercuryTV
      @MercuryTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beyerdynamic definitely needs to release an open back gaming headset. I used the MMX300 a while back and didn’t make a video because like most closed back headsets they really didn’t work for me and my home life. I have long considered your second option - the 990 open back with a mod mic but just haven’t gotten around to it.

      This is always a tough question. My current set up is the Astro Mixamp with the PC38x. And the Astro comfort wasn’t “bad,” but they didn’t adjust as much as I wanted them to compared to the PC38x/Game One. Hey, I have the Sennheiser Game ONE headset, have had it for 5 years. My main issue with it has been that if I turn the volume dial down all the way, it does not actually go to "zero" volume.
    Does the PC38X also do this with the volume wheel, or does it actually go to a "muted" 0 volume state?
    My microphone also recently snapped off of my game one and had to glue it back on, so it's getting me by for now but might buy a new set as it might not last/looks bad glued on.

      It's literally the absolute, most amazing thing in the world. I never knew how much I could love someone until I saw her. 6 figure job, big house, nice car; it's hard to care about those things in comparison to her. Being a dad - and getting to watch her grow up - fills my heart more than anything I ever imagined. Having kids isn't right for everyone, but I'm very happy my wife and I were able to have Maddie.

    In another video you said the Astro A40 were better than the Game One. What about A40 vs PC38X?

    • @MercuryTV
      @MercuryTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's a good question. My current set up is the PC38x with the Mixamp that came with the Astro's. I used the Game Ones forever, bought the A40s and used those until the PC38x, and after I put these on I honestly haven't taken them off. I used them on their own for a while, but I really like having the mic monitoring and game/chat mixer that the Astro Mixamp provides. Best of both worlds in my book.
      However, as a lot of people have pointed out, the A40+Mixamp vs Game One comparison wasn't very fair. I would still say though, my order of preference (with OR without Mixamp) is PC38x > A40 > Game One. I know a lot of people might disagree but again, just my opinion.
