    Shot over 1000 on a ruger 556 ar 15 then had a jam up, could not pull charging handle back or place the gun on safety, Instructor easily grabbed the charging handle and slammed the butt of the gun against the table and bullet came out. they teach you gun saftey how to stand how to shoot, reload, and which kind of ammo to use. Not once did they show us how to take care of that kind of jam up on the ar-15 rifle. People should get a class on handling jam ups by all means

    The last failure (mortaring is what you called it) happened to me at the range this past weekend from shooting .223 out of a 5.56 barrel. A friend of mine told me that it's totally fine to shoot .223 out of a 5.56 barrel but, apparently, he's wrong since issues can still arise because of gas differences not allowing the rifle to cycle properly. Good thing I found this video and was able to clear the malfunction without breaking my stock or buffer tube.

    Took a friend shooting and they didn’t realize they had a double feed, I’m not sure if the bolt broke before or after, but the second round that fed is actually what hit the primer and fired off the round ahead of it. Glad nothing worse happened there!

      Hey Ive been looking and looking to see if anyone else had this happen, my brother had just gotten an ar and he only shot it once, so I was going to take it to the range with a buddy and shoot it some. The rifle had a double feed, I cleared both rounds out of the bolt and proceeded to pull back on the charging handle and let go and it set off a round which struck a baffle, never had anything like that happen, learned it’s from a free floating firing pin that’s in all ar15s

  • @LilShrimp01
    @LilShrimp01 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Amazing video, I'll keep this knowlegde in mind! Just had a malfunction with my AR-10 where a live round got stuck in the chamber and would not eject - from this video, I now know it was because the cartridge itself was somehow bent. So I had a live round stuck in the chamber, and the BCG refused to go back, so I couldn't eject it. I can tell you right now, I tried mortaring the dang thing to no avail, this round was not coming out no matter what. Had to bring it to a gunsmith, I told him my woes. Man got him and his bud, and they had to use a brass punch and hammer to literally punch the BCG to the rear so they could get the round out (they punched it via the face of the BCG exposed by the ejection port). The smith said it was the hardest BCG he had to unjam, as the BCG refused to move until he gave it a good strike. The gunsmith surmised the cartridge was the issue, not the BCG like I initially thought. The BCG seemed fine and operational, and the chamber seemed to be undamaged. Upon inspection, the primer had been lightly sturck, but not enough to cause it to go off. The cartridge also had the smallest knick in it, which I assumed caused just enough deformation to the brass cylinder to lodge it in the chamber - though I also suspect this knick may have been caused when I initially racked it. Bought 500 rounds of this ammo, been through maybe half of it, and this is the only issue I've had so far. This happened quite recently, and I am eager to test my gun out soon to ensure it was the round and not the rifle itself. Whatever the case, I've added a brass punch set and hammer to my kit in case such a catastrophic jam ever happens again. Hope this never happens to anyone else, but just so you know...

    I was having a double feed issue… tried to blame it on the mag but after watching your video I was aware it was because I wasn’t racking the charge handle fully. I’m going to see if that’s the problem - this was a really informative video, thanks!

    Good vid, the only thing I'd contest is a double feed is really easy to visually identify after it didn't go boom and racking can make the problem worse. In my humble opinion and how I do it is drop mag, which will often drop the issue ammo, rack to further clear, insert, charge.

    ive had a case get stuck in the chamber once at the range. the extractor somehow slipped off the rim of the case, and the bolt was free. but i couldnt get the brass out since i was at the range and didnt have a rod on me or in my range bag. (it was a brand new gun, first time firing it, this was about the 3rd magazine) so i packed up and headed home. as soon as i got home about an hour later, i grabbed the gun and pulled the charging handle back, and the brass went flying out. it blew my mind. i thought i had made it all up for a second. lol. but the only thing i can think of is that the brass might have been defective, and the heat caused it to expand, and stick, and by the time i got home it had cooled down and just came right out. thats the only thing i can think of that happened. since then its been running perfectly fine. with no malfunctions and great ejection pattern.

      No don't do that. SEALs will tell you scars are trash and no one actually runs ACRs enough to see malfunctions on them. AR15s are fine and easy to fix broken parts in logistically if you ever wear them out. Take a training class first. Lots of good companies like us do free gun rentals.

    Great video! I've been having a lot of jams with my fairly new Sig M400 (it's about 2 months old, and about 1000 rounds through it). I've had jams since day 1, and I don't know if it is the gun, the mags, or the ammo, but it has happened with new ammo, factory reloaded, home reloaded, and 4 brands of mags. I got a new nickel BCG to see if maybe the bolt and/or carrier were doing it, but nope, more of the same. The jams almost always need to be mortared to be cleared - zero BCG/handle movement.
    This is what brought me to your vid - any ideas on what may be happening or how to fix, or what to alter, or what to replace? I assumed the ammo was the problem since the majority of that 1000 rounds has been reloads, but there was about 400 rounds of new ammo with the same thing. Thanks!

    I recommend watching other videos about how to clear your malfunction.
    Too many things left out in this video.
    You are completely ignoring that you should always check what malfunction are you dealing with by turning your rifle the opposite way, to get a look on the ejection port.
    The right way is to first do that, and then decide what to do next based on what you find out.
    Your way will make many malfunctions worse than they were. You can not clear double feed or failure to extract by just tap and rack. I mean, you may, but there is a big chance you will make your situation much worse.
    If you inspect that your bolt is not closed/open all the way(does not matter for what reason), you have to find cover, eject magazine, rack it hard and then insert magazine after inspecting that malfunction is cleared.

    • @CombatArtTraining
      @CombatArtTraining  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong.
      6:24 "if move tap rack doesn't fix it, I don't fault you on looking at it"
      Double feeds get cleared by tap rack all the time, especially if you are using gravity the way I demonstrate in the video.
      If you knew your rifle you would know everything about the condition of the rifle based off of what the charging handle does when you rack it and let it go. You don't.
      You watch TH-cam videos and quote them, you don't have any real experience, and I guarantee you've never taken a class.

    • @romadur290
      @romadur290 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not quoting youtube videos, I am quoting a class. So, wrong there again.
      I am not talking about thinking what went wrong after tap rack, i am clearly talking about checking first. Always check first what is going on with rifle. All ex-special forces teach it that way.
      You are right that I watch a lot of videos as well, but just to compare informations from classes with those available online. But every professional always told me to check my weapon first. Always.
      I have seen many malfunctions made worse because of tap racking something you should not at class all the time.
      I am not talking about having your rifle turned the wrong way and causing bolt over ride, which is what you ment by "using gravity"...
      I admire your answer as you are trying to debate and not just fight, but less assumptions based on nothing(because you can not know what experience I have based on one comment, and that is simply a fact) would be nice.
