It started out that PSA had decent uppers until you got to barrel alignment and the gas tube on one. Then it just went downhill for the PSA uppers. Interesting enough, on the same day this video was uploaded, another TH-camr named FocusTripp did a live stream that PSA terminated his account for his PSA JAKL review. The upper had out of spec picatinny rails off by .004 and he couldn't mount scope rings or optics to it because of that.

Hey not sure if anyone else is noticing this or it's because I've got headphones on, but something's up with the audio in this video. It's probably due to some kind of background noise suppression or the location of the mic, but Something in the left ear is causing physical discomfort, like it will frequently spike, inducing vertigo and sinus pressure. If I unplug the left ear that sensation goes away so it's mostly whatever is going on in the left channel.

I bought two economy PSA AR15 uppers, and one had a sticky bolt, but it started working 100 pct with some brake in and worked fine with diff bolts. I don't know why, but after breaking in, testing my bolt travel, the sticking went away. I did not run checks or trouble shoot, but when it started working and cycling, I called it good and fired hundreds of rounds with zero probs. Same for all my cheap AR's. PSA, DPMS, and Anderson Rifles.
I thought PSA uppers and lowers were a good value and worked without any malfunctions, even with diff manufacturer bolts; lots of diff mags/ammo. I had no complaints for cheap gun that doesn't get used hard nor go to war. Happy PSA customer.

    • @volkskrieg8735

@@pootinhammer this is going to be a long reply lol. So I started out with the 24" Hunter model. I took it out with 400 rounds of Hornady 150 grain steel case (they don't make it anymore) I tuned the gas system per the owners manual. Found the click number that barely got the bolt to lock back on an empty mad and gave it 3 more clicks. I ran only that ammo and everything ran great. By about the 900-1000 round mark I started having problems with it dropping empty casings in the chamber instead of lifting them up and into the ejection shoot.

    • @volkskrieg8735
      @volkskrieg8735 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@pootinhammer so I decided to re time the gas system since it was acting over gassed. Once again everything worked great, for a while. I ran out of the Hornady stuff and switched to pmc bronze. So again I returned the gas system but I could no longer get a full magazine to run reliable so I took a look and found a crack in the weld that holds the recoil spring assembly to the top cover. I sent it into kelt t ch and they fixed it and I had them swap the 24" barrel out for an 18". Once again after about 500 rounds same crack in the weld happened again. I had kel tec fix it and then I pawned it.

@volkskrieg8735 oof. well I guess I'll keep an eye out for that failure point on mine. no issues so far but I haven't crossed 2k rounds yet I'm around 1600 ish on it with no issues, only ever fed it brass.

@@pootinhammer they eat steel just fine as long as the gas system is tuned to the ammo. That was.kinda the big frustration for me was I knew I could just slam whatever ammo into it. Even brass case has so much variability that u can't really expect reliability when swapping from m80 ball to 168 grain hornady to 150 grain federal.

They really need to get their production and QC standards up to par before coming out with any more new products. Every time I see a PSA rep reply to a video here in TH-cam I reply and tell them that. If they can't get a basic AR-15 upper right, they shouldn't be coming out with newly designed firearms. They've been producing AR's so many years now. You would think they would have perfected it by now. I used to order so many lowers, uppers amd other parts from them. But once I had purchased tools to check head spacing, sight alignment, and other things, I noticed just how off their production and QC was. Before that I received the occasional off centered front sight post that could be seen with my eyes. Plus out of spec receivers that I had trouble putting together because they were so out of spec. I really like PSA's overall goal to make quality budget friendly firearms. However, they aren't meeting the quality part of that.

Why don't they use 2 or more pins for the barrel extension? I've always felt the pin is a little too thin.
I know it could make the threaded part of the upper wesker but as far as I can see the extension is just threaded on and has 1 pin, I can understand 1 pin to clock but why not another 1 to 3 flush pins to make it more solid.
I know some people swear by (bedding) the barrel as they use shims, picture or both but aluminium is soft and torqed correctly it's a solid fit with no need for bedding.
I true my uppers, some don't need much at all but some need more, it removes a tiny amount of material but I'm not sure if its worth it as I don't have a tool to true the barrel extension but I have found that doing it has had better results.
It would be nice if PSA offered it's kits or uppers unassembled.
It's nice to see they test fired it but I think by law all manufacturers should fire 1 or 2 proof loads.
In alot of nations proofing is the law and I have had some firearms come in (usualy AKs with no pistol grip or the mag cutout for 30 round mags) come with at least 1 empty cartridge from test firing, a proof mark and sometimes a bench group.
Setting up something like proof houses in the US would considerably push up the prices of firrarms and I'm sure some manufacturers do use a proof load but it would be nice if they all did as paying a dollar or so more for them to use overpressure proof rounds. I would prefer it.
Not sure if barrel makers like FN proof, but it does not mean much if a manufacturer uses FN barrels but not matched FN bolts.
