I honestly thought this was either an army or usmc intro course on how the ar15 works. Seeing the animation on the BCG would have been such a great tool to have back when I went through basic.
Any owner of any firearm should watch these animations. It’s important, dare I say critical to understand how a firearm you own operates.
Agreed! Especially his video on how a Glock works. It sheds some light on how safe they actually are, even without an external safety. Would help new people carrying concealed be more comfortable carrying with a round in the chamber.
Even better is to read the manual that comes with it. The manufacturer tends to know how their gun works

I had no idea burst modes are achieved purely mechanically. That is very cool.
It was a change from SEMI to BURST mode; AUTO stayed normal.

@@RTFMhvac Probably means they thought people were pulling the trigger for a few rounds and then letting go, and then pulling a few rounds and then letting go. As opposed to the weapon being designed to fire 3 times before latching again and having to pull the trigger.

A 60+ year old design and it still looks like the future.
Take a look at the SR-71 Blackbird and the A-12 Oxcart. They are why I have no belief in extraterrestrial vessels visiting Earth. There is technology hidden from us that will dazzle us beyond anything the motion picture industry can ever show. Other nations also have technology that the public has never seen. There are U.F.O.s, laser guns, exoskeleton armor, cloak, stealth, hypersonic air vehicles, and much more. They are simply not of extraterrestrial origin.

@@beguate185 I do, but I was raised in a liberal state so I wasn't exactly familiar with firearms growing up. I am now a gun owner and enthusiast myself and continuously working to build a greater understanding of the mechanical operations.
This is by far the best animated presentation of the mechanical operation of how an AR-15 functions.
Don't forget it weighs as heavy as "10 boxes you might be carrying" and "fires 50 BMG rounds" XD
and be careful of the AK-15, it’s far more dangerous than a car 🥶
Let us admire at 2:17 the miniscule rebound of the hammer and firing pin. He didn't have to animate that, probably very few people noticed it, but man it's these little touches that elevate this to an incredible degree.

That detail is one of several reasons why microstamping will not work do to the multiple strikes the firing pin makes on the primer, good observation.

I didn't think an 8 minute technical video could be so engrossing. The animation, the music and the voiceover are all so well done.
This video is unironically a million times better than every attempt the Canadian Forces has done to show how the C7 (our variant of the M16/AR-15) works, not only being technically superior on every level, but in a way which is fascinating and genuinely captures ones attention. Its very easy for a video of this type to be dull. Great job!

I’m an Army veteran, and I absolutely LOVED the full auto weapon system while serving. I currently own the civilian version as it’s just a fun weapon to fire, and to teach my girls what our soldiers, marines, naval spec ops, and combat airmen are using. Thank you for this awesome animation. I’m also going to use this as a teaching tool for them.

This is beyond perfect. I watched a few videos that also had animations, and some that showed the actual parts in motion on a rifle, but this is a beautiful, comprehensive animation that shows everything. This would answer any of the questions I had about how they work. The 3 round burst in particular was something I could never understand until I saw it animated.

23 year Army veteran here. This video should be played for every soldier entering the military. You would be surprised how many do not understand the functioning of the M-16/M-4 rifles. Very cool animation! I used this rifle through out my entire infantry career and now own one at home. Best rifle in the world IMO
I just finished my first AR15 5.56/.223 build and I'm looking to start another in 300 blk. This is super helpful in learning more about the hows and whys of assembly as I go and even how I can better care for the parts of my rifle. Its helpful to know where the contact parts are and what i should be looking for during maintenance and cleaning.
Gotta admit, whether you’re an AR or AK guy, the way the AR-15 works when Eugene Stoner made it in the late 1950s is nothing more than a great marvel of Firearm Engineering.
The Stoner 63 takes the cake when it comes to engineering. I'd highly recommend watching the Forgotten Weapons video on it. It'll blow your mind with just how complex a modular weapon system can be.

I’ve been into guns my entire life, I’ve built them, modified them and fixed them and I’m amazed at how certain types of people can envision these systems and bring them to life. The fact that they were engineered without the aid of a computer is mind boggling.
@@Heywoodthepeckerwood It’s what they do for a living. It’s not unlike a surgeon developing a new way to remove a tumor from a brain or a software engineer writing a program to see a thrown hoop with a camera and fly a drone through it. High skilled professionals do impressive things.

Guns are so cool in how intricate yet simple they are. Every moving part works together at the same time, given that the user is handling the gun correctly, otherwise malfunction can happen.
Burst disconnector is the most unique part to me here. Never seen it in other videos, where it's usually just semi or full auto

Matt please dont stop what your doing. These ar is some of the most digestable breakdowns of firearms I have ever seen, and people who know nothing about firearms I have shown always get something out of your videos. I hope you can show rarer gun especially guns from the first world war like the mp18 sub machine, madison light machine gun, and others. Either way I hope you keep up the success you definitly deserve it!

Matt is back with another masterpiece!
As a Marine I fired the old M-16-A1. The internal functions have not changed since the rifle was first introduced way back around the time I was born (almost 65 years ago). When you've got something that works, you keep it.
It's also nice to have these videos available to show people who don't know anything about guns that an AR-15 doesn't fire anything at a higher velocity just because it looks different than other rifles. It's the AMMO that determines velocity, not the gun.
Barrel length can affect velocity. 26 inch barrel to a 16 inch barrel can drop velocity 200 to 300 FPS in the .223/5.56 depending on the ammo. Dead on that looks don't affect velocity.

@@sgdadfgdfgadbdfbd nope. The combination of barrel length, barrel tightness, number of turns in the rifleing, bullet weight, mass and type of powder are determinating the velocity. A longer barrel can increase or decrease the bullets velocity, depending on the other factors. More spin helps to stabilize the flight path, but the more turns the rifleing has, the more it brakes the bullet while traveling through the barrel. Rifleing can't add energy, it consumpts it while using it to rotate the bullet.

There’s no moving parts in a suppressor lol. It’s the same thing as a muffler. The hot gasses are just cooled and slowed by baffles and it takes out that supersonic crack
I dont think anyone said a suppressor had any moving parts.. What I meant and I should have clarified to avoid responses like this is how do the mechanics of a suppressor work. Mechanics does not mean there are moving parts either. It means “ the details of the way something works or is done.” I know how a suppressor works but seeing a video explanation like this would be awesome to watch and would be cool for people who do not understand how a suppressor works. Thats all.

I guess for people who have a low IQ or were dropped on their head, a simple explanation like that is all you can understand and I should have taken people like you into account. Sorry for my lack of insight into your deteriorated mental capacity. Seeing a video explanation would show the movement of the gasses through the firearm and through the baffles of the suppressor showing When a trigger is pulled and the striker ignites a primer and sends a bullet down the firearm barrel, it’s trailed by hot and expanding gases from the combustion of the primer and powder. Suppressors collect, cool, and reroute those expanding gases. Seeing the movement of the gasses and effects of the suppressor would be cool to see and would be nice for people who actually have a brain to watch. Maybe SpongeBob square pants is more down your alley? Sorry for over estimating your mental capabilities. I wont make the same mistake twice. =)
@@xAeschylusx Not necessarily a dumb question, it just works the same exact way a car muffler works. And there's really no such thing as a "silencer". That's the thing Hollyweird has screwed up.
I remember asking Matt to do this exact video and he replied he would. And now that its finally here, I am NOT disappointed. No one does firearm animations like Matt Rittman. 👍

Thank you for this video. I gained a lot of information now on how the AR-15 works. I'm picking up mine tomorrow from the gun store. I've had rifles, shotguns, and pistols but this is my first AR and I was a little intimidated on how it works.

Yup, all the precision fitting of parts, and even more impressive the dynamic balance of forces, vibration and harmonics all have to be right for it to work reliably. Then throw in having to account for different pressure and weights of cartridges. All in the details.
I love these videos! I use them all the time to show folks what I'm talking about with the action of firearms.
