      It was just old man. 12 years old to be exact. Plus it was way to small for the engines needs so it was probably screaming for mercy.

      Well it pulls like a friggen beast once it spools, which takes forever since I still have a stock converter and a stage 3 cam, lol. Then after a few seconds I go into reduced power mode and it kills the throttle because the throttle blade is fluttering in the DBW throttle body. Once I get that figured it should be pretty fun. My last like five videos have just been me bitching about problems. 😂

    • @TurboScotty
      @TurboScotty  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha, lol. I think the best thing i ever did was change over to a th400 and custom converter. What a difference! No Go on the reduced power mode :( i wonder what it could be. I'm def going to check out your videos. Do you have the specs on your cam?

    Can anybody give me some advice?
    I don’t know a lot about cars, but I’d like to LS swap a Porsche 944 in the near future because it’s a cheap car, can go fast, and is fairly straightforward to swap. It seems like the 4.8 is the right choice for me. I have done a little bit of research, but I’m very much a newbie. I do know that the 4.8 loves revs because it’s a shorter stroke, which means I’ll need a good cam and probably some top end stuff to allow for peak power at those high revs. I also know that it’s good for high boost because of that shorter stroke.
    I don’t really have a horsepower goal. I do plan on running E85 for higher boost, probably 25-30 psi. The plan is to run a twin turbo kit that spools lower in the rpm range to minimize lag, while sacrificing a minimal amount of power.
    This would be a racecar that could drive on the street occasionally, but would spend most of its time at the strip and the track.
    So with my novel here in mind, what does everybody suggest?

      Get a 6.0 or 6.2 with low miles from a junk yard bro to really make some power & just add the basic stuff like a cam long tube headers ,intake & etc

    • @Purpz710
      @Purpz710 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gerardo juarez he’s trying to boost it. Not have N/a power. So a 4.8 or a 5.3 is a better choice.

    • @blackbirdgaming8147
      @blackbirdgaming8147 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Danny Brown That being said though I might be better off going NA first because since I posted that comment I’ve learned engine swapping is really not as easy as it sounds. I’ll for sure continue to explore both options, but I think what I’m going to do initially is make a turbojet engine out of a turbo, which is a lot easier than it sounds. Idea behind that being I’d get used to fabricating my own manifold stuff and doing oil system. Run an NA motor first, then boost it with new found experience.

    • @Purpz710
      @Purpz710 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Blackbird Gaming honestly man if you can get some mounts, a stand-alone harness and some turbo headers you’d be set. These engines only really need some valve springs to prevent valve float and an ls9 cam and you’ll make some pretty good power. I overthought these swaps for a while but I think you can really do it especially in that Porsche I’ve seen it done in that model before too. Just don’t give up brotha. The feeling of boost is completely worth it

    hey, i dont know if you'll reply to this as this video is quite old but i have a few questions.
    my grandpa has a 2001 silverado LS (being the trim model) 5.3 V8, completely stock. he told me he was gonna give me the truck when i was driving age and i've been thinking a lot about turbocharging the truck a while after i get it. this will be a daily driver and a work truck, but also a fun truck if you catch my jist. do you think you could give me some turbocharger brands or models specifically that would work well, along with a good PSI amount for less wear on the engine, but still enough to pull harder than it does stock.
    if you're curious i'm also thinking about a cold air intake, probably gonna need a tune after the turbo and CAI are installed, and maybe some other small mods like headers and exhaust systems and whatnot.
    thanks for the help if you end up replying to this comment, means a lot.

    • @TurboScotty
      @TurboScotty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The best advice i can give you is Don't do it to a daily driver. If you're looking for more power from the truck I would consider a tune and a cam, good enough for a fun truck, the stock airbox for the truck you will get the best Intake air temps, you mostly lose power doing a "cold air intake". (you're pulling in hot engine bay air(its less dense)).
      If you are going to turbo charge the truck either way, a GT-45 cheap ebay turbo is enough to give you around 900HP, so it's a lot of head room. But at that power, it's not going to last long if you don't gap the rings, fuel pump upgrade, springs, built transmission, if you can do all the work yourself you're looking at around 5k.
      Look here for parts etc, specifically the denmah kits (sloppy mechanics)
      turbo4less.com/
      Also, a Torque converter with the cam and tune will do a lot for you too :). But speaking from experience the absolute best advice i can give you for a daily, keep it mild and save the turbo for a different vehicle.
      But again if you're still headed in that direction keep asking questions and ill do my best to answer them as best i can.
      Thanks,
      Scott

    • @isatntt
      @isatntt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TurboScotty thanks man, i was also thinking about doing a different differential ratio to give it more get up and go, and maybe a mild cam and torque converter as you said.
      also probably gonna swap the trans to a 4l80e and at this moment, the fuel pump needs to be replaced because of the inevitable broken gas gauge, if you know you know lol.
      getting a good tune is high priority to me, for better throttle response and more power and optimized engine running and all that fun stuff.
      it is an older truck so its possible i will buy a newer truck and i can make the 01 silverado my fun truck with big turbos and whatnot.
      I really appreciate you replying to my comment, thanks a lot for the help and i will consider many of the things you said.
      this is all very early for me to think of doing any mods to a truck that i don't even own yet, for a bit more informaton i am 13 and when i am 16 i will be getting the truck (i hope), so i imagine i will have different views and more time to think of what i want to do with the truck. again, thanks for responding it means a lot to me.

    • @TurboScotty
      @TurboScotty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@isatntt You're welcome, If it has 3.73's in the rear, those are the sweet spot, A tune would do a world of wonders for you, it really wakes the engine up and also a tune in the transmission to lessen torque management makes a big difference. The transmission really holds back how much torque the engine will produce. But, if it were me, I'd go with a cam, trunion kit, and some springs for the cam, and a servo for the trans then straight to a tuner.

      Ruben Vasquez , stick with the 4.8, they make plenty of power. Keep a spare short block just in case. But I don't see a problem with 15lbs. The engines pop either with a bad tune, high egts, or just a really hard launch at the track. Just the name of the game. I've been driving my truck alot. I have no mechanical sympathy for it, and it's holding up fine. I didn't gap my rings, blocked off waste gate, went into fuck it more. It has a bit of blow by, but that's to be expected from not gapping rings.
