I’m currently putting together the same truck I’ve been messing with it on and off for about a year now …This video was definitely motivation for me to get it done
Looks good. Personally i would had fabbed an extra piece to put the turbo were the coolant reservoir is at right now. That way you can retain the AC and keep the hot turbo away from the coils and wiring.
Nice job, James. People didn't believe I boosted my 1.8 Chevy Cruze for $1300. At the time it was a similar setup, but made a log style turbo manifold. Most expensive part was HPTuners.
Love the build. I admire when a guy works with what he's got, no fancy shop or super expensive tools. Just plain old will power and a driveway...now you got me wanting to boost my Yukon
Love to hear it bro! It’s amazing what you can do when you set your mind to it. One day I will have me a shop to work out of but until then I’ll m gonna do what I gotta do to enjoy my toys
Like the video. I have a 4.8 ls in my 86 chevy caprice. Been wanted to turbo for the past year but couldn't find the right kit for my budget. Found your video today, now I'm ordering part. Bro thank you for this video. Real glad I find it
Wow is all I can say.. wow. I have a 87 Monte SS with a 4.8 and been wanting to boost it for a while. Thank you bro I’ll definitely be doing it this way. Mines a budget build too!
I got a 2002 suburban im building i already done the transmission and been tuning its crazy how quick this heavy truck is soon im gonna do few more budget upgrades i redone my exhaust to and i havent heard another suburban sound like mine
It can be done, eBay and TH-cam will be your best friends. Especially in a big bodied caprice, you got a lot of room so it’s a lot more of a universal fit instead of having to buy stuff for something like an f body or something
You have encouraged me to try. I want this type of set up so bad. Yeah sure some guru somewhere can probably do some type of 1100HP that’s off the chain but I like your content. Thanks for sharing.
Super sweet man, can't wait to see it all polished up. I supercharged my daily driver Tahoe, but now I'm really looking to get a single cab short box cat eye to make some big power and hurt some feelings 👍
Nice, seeing this makes me want to turbo my suburban. Not really to race or anything, just to have fun cruising and getting under boost & hearing the BOV.. nice build man
Dude! Good shit! I was scrolling videos for my 2001 Silverado and I came across this one! Hahah what’s the odds!? Haven’t seen you in years man, glad to see you still love going fast in Chevy’s!
The only difference is the pistons and rods, the talk between LQ4 and LQ9 which is better is overrated, it’s all in what u wanna build and how much money you got to spend
@@bo_flint93 yes, overall a lower compression is easier to boost and less risky. If I recall correctly the LQ9 and LS2 have around a 10:1 compression, where the LQ4 is somewhere around 9.4:1?
clean setup man, wouldve put the boost controller on the a pillar or on the airbag control panel myself but whatever works works lol, gave me some ideas for the lq9
That's a sweet setup for what you have in it 🤘. I had a CLEAN 02 Silverado the same color and had plans to do the same. It was a good running 4.8 and I miss it daily. It would run all over both of my buddies 5.3 trucks and it made him so mad lol. We don't know what it was about it. It just ran hard with the same bolt ONS. Anyway, that gives me a push to get another one now 💪
4.8 has a shorter stroke they will get up faster but 5.3 will get it on top end BUT usually once u get someone on the jump and they don't have alot more power than you then usually you got them
Not bad. More than one to skin a cat with the ls truck turbo builds. Four years ago, I went with the basic On3 kit with the 7875 upgrade $2,100 shipped, no tax. No regrets with the On3; buyers just have to factor in wideband, fueling, fans, tuning, etc. Just swap in a good junkyard 4l80e, before going into serious boost.
I wish i would have bought the on3 kit for my 6.0 LQ4 swapped RCSB about 5 years ago when i originally decided i wanted to go turbo. Would have saved me some time and my sanity lol
Max respect bro, I love to see people working with what they have, it is a very clean truck and a very clean build, I subbed and would love to see a video of it running at some point.

I have are head stud 2 different cams 243 heads port polished and a full build kit but it was ment for my 6.0 ls but I got rid of it . Your video popped up on my feed and I thought I had see them all haha! I’m 99% and I’m struggling to get my innovative wideband to report to Hp tuners. My tuner said I need to wire in a 3 pole 2 way switch from the AC pin in the PCM to the AC wire on the co pressor to the output of the LC-2 controller. If there’s an easier way I’m all ears. It’s an email tune so it’s kind of a pain. But I can make whistle noises so far, pretty exciting haha. Nice video and keep up the good work
The easier way is to buy the prolink and pro tool set, it's worth the money to support hptuners imo but I understand everyone has a different budget. That said, there are plenty of good write ups on doing it via the AC input.
got a similar thing going on with a 1994 4.6 V8 thunder bird, not one but two of those t4t3 m12 50/63's... fit under the rear seat. half way done "piped up running but missing the second blower"... but for now it's getting near 40 below, no one works in that weather unless in a heated truck plowing snow. 😋🍗 so cold the 10amp 14lpm oil scavenge pump is nearly sized, needs a pulse driver to prevent the coils from burning out.

The eBay hot sides are up to $500 which is absurd. I’ve been teaching myself to weld so I can make my own hot side and run a gt45. Mine will be mild steel, already have the J bends. I’m trying to find a cheap/blown engine to use as mock up so my truck won’t be down more than a weekend. I have a summit 8718 cam, summit Ls6 springs, 340lph pump and running on about 50% ethanol. I’m excited about going turbo!
You gotta nice little plan going on. Keep me updated on your build would love to see it. Have you seen my new build yet? Well it’s a project right now but hoping to finish by summer time. I have a gmc Sonoma 6.0 swap with terminator x that I am going to do a budget turbo kit on.
