You are living the dream with these old rigs . That Detroit is music to my ears. Good repairs and maintenance and that machine ready to work. Thanks for the video. American Iron all the Way !
Also a fan of how much you beat cold motors, I had a guy who brought one to work the other day and he asked me why the clacking noise? I started it up and was revving it like those guys on TH-cam and it starts that clacking noise. I smiled at him and said that's what you get when revving a cold engine. I know that you are doing what you are because it is possible on that but these young people have no idea what and why certain things can't be done on certain motors. Good morning to you and I hope you have a great day today.
I was talking to my son about how long ago he pulled that foot valve out since I couldn't remember, and it figures it's been 5 years since we parked it and pulled the batteries. It's just crazy how good that thing starts and runs.
That “extra ventilation” must be an after market add on. That sucker should improve the arrow dynamics lowering fuel consumption, increase the airflow adding 1.2 up, and keep the cab nice and cool.
New subscriber. Very nice start! Running well! Strange how the little things can shut something down! Perhaps you might enjoy following along as I get my late father's 1958 Plymouth Suburban back on the road.
SWEET....only word to use on the way it fired up.start the others as well we want to hear them all running at the same time!!!! Soundtrack of my childhood.DETROITS gods engine.
@@themaskednebraskan well sure looks like you have a lot of work to do!!!it would be a real cool video to see them all running together.cant wait.id love to be there🤣
What a BEAST, Ain't nothing more Robust and heavier duty than an A-car, and DM mack! Those 8v71s run forever. if they don't stick wide open lol. Got any old cabovers out there ??? Back when steering wheels made you WORK and gain Real muscles! plus a REAL Steering wheel at that! Holy cow that yard is massive!!!
Pacific trucks, check them out. They like to hail 150+ ton off highway! I can't remember but I think some trucks with the 16' wide bunks could handle around 240 ton!
Don’t even know where to start now that I’ve found your channel. “Buncha crap in the exhaust”…..ya think? Gotta love a Detroit though, and it didn’t even run away on ya.
Keep your fingers crossed. I've got a bunch more Detroit's and some haven't run since I was in high school. Surely one of them will run away and make for great entertainment.
8v92 or 8v71? Always got to watch that the rack isn't stuck before firing them or you'll have to cholke the air off quick over at the air intake... this have a turbo? Guess we'll find out lol... usually up top over the blower. lol Buckle up!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 318 Double D's were painted red or silver. Never seen a GM Fuel to Noise Converter Oil Sprayer in blue before. Of course I'm also no Double D expert (at least not engine wise 😂) either.
This should have been Alpine green originally as far as I know, but this was an auction truck we got back in about '94(?) and I have no idea of its history. Odds are at some point that engine was rebuilt (especially considering how well it runs) and I have no idea why it got painted that color.
Are you looking to sell that ol girl by any chance? I thought I noticed it said Texas on door. If your interested let me know and if your not extremely far from NJ. Thanks a bunch. Great video. Still truckin 36 years lol. Thanks just noticed the title Nebraskan. That might a bit far for transportation
Yep, quite a ways from NJ, and the truck came out of Topeka, Kansas but at the moment I'm not really interested in selling it. It needs to move a couple trailers around here first.
I freaked out when you sent it to the Moon I thought she was going to start running away sometimes they said a long time s*** sticks and she starts running like hell
Keep your fingers crossed, I've got several more detroits that have been sitting for 20 + years and there's no reason to think that at least one of them won't stick open. One of those cutting loose when you're not expecting it is almost a religious experience. You've got some cool stuff on your channel, I'll check it out a little better when I get free.

Your are correct, if it's not the dream it's pretty damn close.
Barking-off at the first turn, smooth idle and virtually no smoke?! She’s a keeper 🙂 Gotta love that feels-like-zero-flywheel 8V71 rev too!
Absolutely, there's just nothing else out there like them.
Sounds like it was just parked yesterday! Amazing.
It was a huge relief that it cracked off like it did, saved me a ton of work!
Wow only a Detroit 8V-71 would start and run like that years later. Great engine.
Indeed!
This vid just popped up. Very cool truck and sounds amazing ! I like the alternator placement
Man she sounds damn good, not even smoking
Runs as smooth as it did in 1971.
Restore that Autocar detroit beast !!!

Sounds good, little bro to the V16 Detroits we had in 953 Kenworths in the oil patch
which basin?
Gotta love that, sounds like it was just shut off yesterday.
I constantly want trucks I have no use for.... But the auto cars look so damn good.
She's alive! Another 2 stroke comes roaring back to life!
It'll be a sad day around this place when we don't have at least one around to awaken the wildlife.
She sounds so sweet!
Beautiful motor
Man that thing started like it was parked 5 minutes ago

Morrisen and Kanusen. The manufacturer . Will gladly buy that back from you.

I am a great fan of. Single battery to do the job of many
The second battery is on the passenger side in the other battery box.
50 años y arranca como el primer día. Motor revolucionario como no hay otro.
They are a pretty special engine. They'll always have a place in my heart.
Nothing sounds quite like a Detroit.
Indeed, it's almost magical. Well, at least in small doses.
Like butter
Yes sir it will

No turbo, and the emergency kill is functional. I've yet to have one run away on start up, knock on wood 😁
I'm surprised there weren't any stuck injectors
I think it's due to clean living on my part. 🤣
Unless the hood was changed, this truck is 1967 or older. 68 went to just Autocar on the hood.
Nice work getting the rig fired up again! 😁👍 Sounds good too! Is that the skeleton of a D9 Cat close by?
That's a good guess size wise, but it's a TD25C. Which would be a perfect project for you once you get your lowboy rounded up. 😄
What's happening, Zane?

Did you check coolant before starting? Or oil??
i believe you have a 8v92 there i can tell by the blower and how it is mounted at the flange
You could very well be correct, I've never had to do more than oil and filters so never paid much attention in the past.
Another way to tell is by the water pump, front cover on water pump on the 71 will have bolts holding it in. The 92 has a snap ring

It purrrss like detriot.
2 strokes Rule
Typical Detroit, starts like it was just run yesterday even years later!
Exactly right!
Never would have guessed this would have started with so easy. now will it move? lol
Once I put the foot valve on so I can release the brakes it will. Come hell or high water!
You need to really smash those terminals with a club hammer or you'll never get a good contact !!
This is the best advise I've had in weeks!
Dam
Would you want to get rid of the autocar
Not right at the moment, I've got a couple things I need to use it for first.
Need a bigger steering wheel 😂

Hey brother Is she for sale
I hadn't thought about selling, snap answer is no, but I'll mull it over.
FOR SALE?
Not at the moment it's not.
Running on oil in crankcase 15 years not brightest crayon in box are we
That oil has to be at least 25 years old, but that was a good guess!
