- Attempt to start up the Volvo n715 after sitting in the element’s for 15 years and comparing various stages of deterioration of Volvos from one in excellent condition to others with nothing left! #volvotrucks #willitstart #oldtrucks
Man, I just don’t like seeing ANY old truck being let to deteriorate; especially old semi trucks (“prime movers” as said in Australia 🇦🇺) Thanks for taking these trucks in and giving them a second chance, Steve. That is truly awesome and makes for interesting and plain cool content for YT (something that is hard to come by this day and age)
Thank you 🙏
Gotta love the N7, we had a bogey drive N10 with a 120 engine in it, ran like a train. It had full diff locks in it so would pull a load of crane counter wieghts out of any muddy biulding site, didn't like to turn with the locks in though
They are great reliable trucks mate yes. Only problem with ones I’ve seen is the cab rusting away. The rest of them are basically indestructible. Great trucks
Greetings Steve, enjoyed today’s video. Based on what We have seen you do so far, anything you are interested in doing, me and the guys I know are going to enjoy watching. Give Roger a squeeze for us.
Hi mate. Thank you. It’s all going to be fairly similar content and plenty more to come. I’ve got a fair bit already recorded and ready to go. I’m just going to release the ones I did with Geoffrey from Wisconsin every second episode so I’m going to do one of my normal ones every other time. Glad you enjoyed mate. Roger is enjoying sleeping near the fireplace on these cold nights☺️☺️
Poor old truck, I have faith in you to get her going again. She’s had a rough life it looks like. Good luck my friend.
Man oh man those are some really rusty relics you have there. Love your channel and subscribed a couple vids ago. Great content keep it up, get all those old girls runnin.
Hi mate thanks for subscribing. There’s plenty more to come
Just found your channel brilliant. Worked on Leyland g cabs Bedfords in the seventies looking forward to more videos. Cheers from Scotland
Hey there Keith thanks for the comments and watching mate. They brilliant old trucks. I only have one Leyland Truck, I think it’s a Terrier? Correct me if I’m wrong when you see it. It’s only a light Duty truck, and there are 2 1948 (I think) bedfords here. I’d like a km Bedford. Maybe one day. I have a Leyland 680 power plus engine in an Australian built crane as well. There will be plenty more videos Keith don’t worry. I’m enjoying doing it
Love the G88 and other trucks of my childhood. Our G88 was featured in truck n bus in the day we bought it about 18months later for carting bricks in Adelaide. Then Hallett Nubric took over the truck. They repainted it a cream n brown last seen at Aldinga sand quarry. I would love to find it. Another truck we had for bricks was a Leyland beaver 680 power plus with a low 50 engine number and a 13 speed road ranger , we sold it in the 80s to someone near Rainbow Vic, I would also love to find this one too. I have found my late fathers international 454 hydro forklift tractor so 1 out of 3 may have to do. But I love your gallery of history
The rego of the G88 was sth Australia started with SAN ???
Awesome collection you got there! Nicely done and gotta say she sounded awesome !
Hi Ash thanks for watching.yes she does sound good. It’s a shame the cabs all fallen apart around it. Still good to have I guess
Nice collection that green & white g88 look nice with bit of a resto put in to truck show or just to take to light on hill memorial for day nice old they along of money back in the day lol but great video.👍😀
Thanks for watching Scott. Yes it’s a nice truck the g88. Hopefully the owner will put it back on the road mate
Wow u must be close to the ocean where u are, my father in laws gear at old Bar looks like them.
Sad to see them rotted away
Hamiltonville farm in 🇭🇲, Wiley and hank will be in heaven there.
Keep up the good work, love old trucks fixed and drove them for many years,🇭🇲👍🏁
Hi mate thanks for watching. We still over an hours drive from the ocean here but who knows where it spent it’s early years. It is very sad indeed. Hank and Wiley wouldn’t know where to start here😂😂
Hi again Steve, that engine sounded fantastic mate. If you could find the time, I would like an episode on a start up of the blue tanker, the one beside the Volo please mate. Not sure what it is as I'm not that much in the know about old trucks, just know I like the sound of them before they started messing with the emissions and all that crap and choking the life out of them. Cheers mate, take care, Norm.
Hi Norm thanks mate. The blue truck is a Leyland mate. There has been a few blokes wanting to see that one actually, especially blokes from the UK. That one day for around 20 years when I got it and we had it going to n about 20 minutes. It runs like a new car. It sounds like a Toyota 4wd . Very quiet but yes I can no problem
Thanks Steve, Leyland? I was thinking it looked like a Commer truck, shows what I know 🤣🤣 But great if you can do a video on it. Cheers mate, Norm
Do love an old Volvo !...especially one that hasn't spun a cog for a few years😁listen to her purr !.... Good testament to how good these vehicles were in their heyday, they knocked spots off of British trucks in terms of style and comfort. I loved my old 290 BHP F88 as in my avatar, but having said that I have always had a soft spot for Cummings powered ERF's..at least you could stop an ERF, Volvos were never noted for thir stopping distance 😄
Thanks for sharing this Denis. They certainly are good trucks mate. I’ve never had anything to do with an ERF. A few getting around here but not many
I guess I was definitely wrong, I really figured that the trucks would be in much better shape there, do all of the older trucks of yours run? I pretty much we’ll figure that they do. One thing is for sure, you have plenty of parts my friend.
Yes everything here, apart from a few small things run mate. The Volvo trucks here rot away, the other ones aren’t too bad really
That N7 looks like one that was running in the mid 90's in WA doing yard work for a galvanizing company. But was red.
Gday Dixie, it may have been mate, this one was red as well. It’s still visible inside the doors and the cab. This was a yard truck at Ingham chickens here in Sydney. Before that I’m not sure. Thanks for watching
The older Volvo is in great shape.
The g88 is in exceptional condition. The bonnet Volvo is shot. The cab is rotten
How’s the little ford F1 coming. I really can’t wait to see your new videos on rebuilding the flathead V8. One of my favorites videos. Nice little truck Steve.
Thank you. It will be a long build though because it’s not priority at the moment. It will certainly get there though so stay tuned
The old Volvo's is great trucks(new ones also)and the engines and gearbox is classics. The TD 70 engine is probobly the best ever from Volvo. My father had a F86 back in time with same engine.
They are great trucks mate. Excellent drive line in them, just the cab is the problem with rust in the older ones I like. The engine in the g89 at my place sounds brilliant. Thanks for watching Magnus🤘🤘👍👍👍
Gotta love a down to earth oz and his cold sandwiches, regards from a bloody pomm,👍
Gday Brett thanks for watching partner 👍👍👍
You've got some very interesting stuff going on there mate.
Hi Jon thanks for watching. Yeah mate there’s a bit happening here. Try to make it a bit interesting. I’m not a cameraman though. Only new to that. Stay tuned
Lovely video's....... I agree it would be great to see the G88....fireup....👍
Gday Frazer thanks for watching. A lot of blokes are requesting to start that one mate. Stay tuned and it will appear in an episode no problem
Volvo jurassic 👍👌
🙏🙏👍
Good work Man 👍👍
Thanks mate👍👍🤘🤘🤘
hi Steve from Victoria mate love the old trucks
Hi John thanks for watching and liking the gear.
Td 70b engine getts fired up...👍👍👍👍👍
Indeed she does partner 👍👍👍👍. Thanks for watching
Love the G88..over here (UK) they were all F88, hardly ever saw a G. Lovely truck, looks good with double drive, again, something we hardly ever saw here..and that big bullbar. They suffered terribly here with the tinworm though. Kind Regards
Hi Gareth thanks for watching mate. Yes the g88/89 I think were very similar to the F I think but the f had a set back front axle compared to the G. In my small time having anything to do with them this is what I’ve learned. Had a lot of comments on the g88 so I will try to get time to do a video on it. The rust here got a lot of them, but this one is in exceptional condition.
good job mate!
Thanks for watching mate and the nice comment. Very much appreciated. Helps me to keep doing this
Hi Steve, I used to work in Melb degreasing these Volvo's that came from up north and had come over as open deck cargo. We used to take the wax of with soap and steam guns.,, most of them were in grey paint. Would have been early 70's
Hi Michael. Mate this is great information. Do you think this had something to do with the corrosion? Just a thought. I have 2 Volvo trucks here that are completely shot with rust. Thanks for watching and taking an interest mate. Great comment.
@@stevesplacedownunder They certainty had plenty of wax on them, I think the rust must have started before they were painted at the factory. I can remember them being piggy backed and not transported on trucks.
Cheers Michael
Thanks Michael great info
Very cool, great vid...... 👍🍻
Thanks for watching and enjoying Throttle Power👍👍🙏🙏.
@@stevesplacedownunder 👍👍
Hey mate just came across your channel, i subscribed even before I started watching the video, i been looking for ages to find a channel back home that does truck restorations, instead of jyst the ones in America hahahaha.
Great channel mate cheers
Hi mate thanks for watching. I’m trying to get the channel off the ground. It’s only early days but seems to be going good at the moment. There will hopefully be more restoration jobs but also play with tractors and whatever else I have to do around the place. One bloke already said it’s good to see an Aussie doing it😂. I like the American ones that’s why I’m doing this but good to have an Aussie touch to it. Hopefully it picks up. Thanks again mate
@@stevesplacedownunder yea mate the American ones are good, but it's better seeing the Aussie's doing it hahahaha.
All the best buddy growing your channel, Cheers
Thanks partner this is the reason I’m doing to chat to people like yourself and everyone that may enjoy it
Who would of EVER thought.. LoL... The motor outlived the CAB :D
Thanks for watching yes it most certainly did
That cabover Volvo G88 or 89 was a bogie was it. Anyway its a great project it would come up alright with some TLC. The N 7 single drive is as rare as a dinosaur.
Yes mate the 3 I have here are bogies. There’s a G89, rusted out but bogie, then the G88, green and white one is bogie, and the slimline/daycab one in the shed is a bogie but it’s a single drive Volvo diff with a lazy axle on Volvo suspension. I didn’t know that N7 are rare mate?
congratulations
Thank you 🙏
I gave her all the above... your a man just persistent enough to make something out of the old mare of a truck. I never really understood why guys would order a rig with the sorry odd transmissions. I installed 13 speed transmissions in all of my own rigs many a year back.... started driving for my dad before being old enough to argue the point. Wrecked a few of his rigs before learning to keep the dirty side down. Seventy three now an a damn cripple... can't walk the length of a crutch an makes me a grumpy old shit. I see a bit of equipment scattered about..., any of it yours? I don't know what pulls me into the drama of making them run again except to smell the smoke and drink the fumes back into my lungs like it did so many years ago. Who knows, might give the rig started a different cabin for some comfort to move around.... cheers from alaska.
Thanks for watching mate and appreciation for what I’m doing here. Good stories and hang in there. Most stuff scattered about in the videos is mine. I love getting it all going again. Some just for the enjoyment and others we go all the way to getting them on the road. Cheers from Australia
AWESOME CAN WE GET THE CABOVER RUNNING NEXT? I SUBSCRIBED to see more. I'm a TRUCKER in Michigan. Can I ask what kind of bird that is I hear in the background? Really enjoyed looking at your RIG'S think I'm gonna love this channel. Thanks for SHARING with us driv,ah.
Hi mate thanks for watching and much appreciate the subscription. Which cabover would you like to see running? As for the bird I will have to go back and listen. You don’t realise they are even making a sound until you watch it back. The camera seems to pick them up more than we can hear. There’s a lot of bird life here and wildlife in general. I will try keep up the truck content but I don’t want to exhaust it all so there will be tractors and other old equipment as well but a lot of the blokes are liking the truck stuff. Thanks again driver.
@@stevesplacedownunder any cabover you got well work. I have a 1986 kenworth KW K100 love the CABOVER'S. Tractors are fine with me gotta break it up some ya know driv,ah.
Yes I can do that. I have the 2 kw k123 cab over trucks that you probably seen in my other videos they are 1973 and 74 check those out both Detroit 871’s in those and I have a kw 1976 model 8 wheeler (twin steer) and she’s a big cam 400 Cummins. But I will do some starts on the Volvo cab overs and I have 3 Aussie inters (ACCO) with a variety of petrol and diesel’s in those as well so see how we go with time
@@stevesplacedownunder sweet can't wait thank you my good sir
I see you got the old Austral bricks Leland there
Hi James yes mate they wanted it off site so I got it
Clean up, and its ready to go. 😎
Pretty well mate yeah😂😂
that rusty old Volvo sounds good. I would take the engine out and scrap the rest. Would like to see that Cabover next to it start up.
that's a nice truck.
Hi mate thanks for watching. Yeah that’s what needs to happen with it. Good running gear in it, just rotten. The one next to it is excellent condition. I can do a video on it no problem. It’s really quiet that one
@@stevesplacedownunder Hi, just want to say that I enjoy your videos down there in Australia.
Nice piece of property you have there and such a large collection of trucks.
That would be great if you did a video on that cabover. Is it quieter because it has an
exhaust muffler or just the engine is quieter.
Thanks Neil. I’m only earl into it but it’s going good and worth doing with comments like this. I just said to another bloke that I watch a lot of blokes do it, mainly in America and thought I’ve got all this stuff sitting at my place so I got a camera and having a go. I’m a better mechanic than I am a cameraman but it will only get better. Plenty more episodes to come. Takes a lot to record and edit. Thanks again
Sorry Neil yes it’s quieter because of the muffler I think. The little n7 has a straight through on her and the yellow 89 is straight off the turbo. That yellow rusted one sounds absolutely beautiful. But yes I will do a start on the 88 no problem. Not sure when but will try soon mate no problem
I would like to se the G88 next time🥰, i own one to😄
Thanks for watching mate. Yes no problem. There is a lot of requests for it to start. I’m going to try to do it soon with the time I’ve got
Wow just wow,
Thanks for watching mate and nice comment🙏🙏👍👍
Looks like its a 1978 model that was last registered in February 1995 according to the rms app... 🤔
Probably right mate. I’ve never looked it up. The uncle got it around O2, then I bought it around 6 months ago.
Does that leyland beside the volvo run? Love those old G cab models especially the Clydesdale. Where im from they have many of them running with 411 engines and a great turbo whistle. Would be nice to see a video on that if it runs!
Hi mate thanks for watching. Yes the Leyland runs great. It sat for near 20 years when I got it and when I got it going when I got it home it only took 20 minutes. Runs like brand new. Which one do you want to see run? The yellow G89?
@@stevesplacedownunder that’s nice to hear. Could you do a video on the blue Leyland running and/or driving. Would be interested what engine and transmission it’s got. All your other trucks are interesting so honestly wouldn’t mind:)
Yes I can do one on the Leyland. I’m trying to spread out the first start videos but I can no problem yes. I can’t tell you the specs of it. It’s a lighter duty truck.
What a stupid question, a Volvo will always start... I had a 60's bulldog with a 3 way tipper on it, it had been standing in a field for 22 years, threw a pair of new batteries into it, and hooked a pair of cables to it and, VROOOM.. Runs like a kitten 😸
Yeah mate of course they will always start. The 4 we have here always do. Good engines in those old ones . Thanks for watching mate
That Leyland looked in really good condition , everything built in the 70’s rusted out like that 89 but it’s still not past being able to be restored , you just need an endless supply of money
Hi mate thanks for watching. The Leyland is in unbelievable condition. A local brickyard that we contract to wanted it off site. I took the float straight down and got it. Hadn’t run for around 17 years and we had it going in around 20 minutes and drove it off. The 89 cab could be done in a nice shop with good panel blokes that know what’s going on but there’s a lot of projects in front of it
@@stevesplacedownunder great channel mate , binge watched it this morning on a loading bay , stick at it’ll grow in no time
You really binge watched? That’s great stuff. I wasn’t sure how it would go. I lack confidence in talking but like it at the same time. I like the interaction with blokes like yourself that appreciate it. I’ve watched the blokes in America do it and I thought I’ve got a lot of stuff here at my place so why not try. I’m still trying to work the camera out with remembering to press record or shaking while recording. I will get there
@@stevesplacedownunder you’ve got the best of both worlds over there All the European and US equipment , you’ve got everyone covered , as for confidence knowing your subject matter will help you’ll soon forget the camera is there
Yes mate we have nice gear down here. Confidence will no doubt get better, especially knowing people are enjoying the content
paintjob reminds me of the old SPD >>> transport trucks....wonder if this was one of the subies trucks
Hi mate thanks for watching. It could well be I’m not sure of the history behind some of these ones sitting here.
The starter motor is still good
Yeah John it still works fine👍👍
Needs new cabin, come paint and grease and you are back on the road!! Old Volvo never dies!!
Hi mate thanks for watching. Yes that’s basically it. The drive train is still fine.
My grandfather truck in 80s
Was this his mate?
@@stevesplacedownunder no my grandfather truck Volvo n 10 in 80s eroup
See blokes use outboard tank got primer pump on em handy conect to existing pipe
I’ve used one Ron on old petrols that I’ve got going but these diesels have 2 big lines that is a little bit harder to set up. Would work fine though if I spend the time to set up. I use them to bleed up the 2 stroke jimmy’s because they haven’t got a pump so one of those primer bulbs to the primary filter works great
Just wondering ! Why Brit’s love Volvos (trucks or cars ) or ford??? Vs , lots of other choices they have , can any person let me know
Hi mate no I can’t answer that. Thanks for watching
So,so sad to see the 88 looking like that.
It is Mike. He really needs to put it in a shed. My sheds are all full of my stuff
Poor girl... would you restore her?
Hi mate thanks for watching. I’d be interested in doing something with it but there’s a lot more stuff to get on the road before this one. It’s a shame.
@@stevesplacedownunder well... if it's lasted this long, I'm shore it can wait. Cool vid man!!!
Cabs too far gone for my skills. Not much left of it structurally
Wasn't too bad ta drive either reliable
amigos si queda uno m lo ocsequian de cumple años saludos desde costa rica cartago
Thanks for watching mate🙏
Hi mate, just found you, great videos. Quick question I'm from the UK and worked on Leyland trucks from 1974, is there many English trucks still left or has the tin worm munched them out. Take care mate.
Hi mate thanks for watching. Yeah there are still a lot here. Most of the ones that I’ve seen seem to be really good in the tin worm department. They were made from really good steel I believe. I’m sure there are some rusted out examples but the few that I’ve got at my place. Bedford and Leyland seem to be just fine. There’s 2 48 models down the back and they aren’t rusted at all. Thanks for commenting mate and you take care also
Plenty of good old history lesson British trucks in the opal fields the heat keeps the rust away
Not sure why the foreign trucks always rot so bad.
Not sure mate. There’s some American and Aussie ones here aswell that are pretty bad
