A protune even on a bone stock STI is worth it. Smooths out the power, and more reliable than the factory tune. I even got 35 more WHP from it too!
I agree and that is awesome!
Who did you use for a protune
@@anthonyteixeira8039 bainstuning in norcal
I just bought a 2019 wrx premium I’m like excited to have this car
It’s a lot of fun!
Love mine, super exited to keep it clean for a few years and once it gets boring completely trash it in the dirt
Might be getting a 2017 sti soon so this is exactly what I was looking for!!
Glad I could help!
Get a 19 ra block
you forgot to mention the oil pickup and baffle that killer b offers :). I just picked a set up from IIR for $200 shipped :)
Yes that is also coming in the future!
I know this is an older video and all but, glad you brought to attention that its clearly a better idea to go with the equal length headers especially if you're really looking to get the most from your car. 👍
Glad I could help! 🤙🏼
Ill be doing a lot of these when i get my car back. I just bought an 08 wrx and three days later i have rod knock. So yeah ill be sticking around
Thanks about to buy my 2020 STi In December
Awesome you will love it!
Congrats
I’m going to do everything except the ELH the only “non supporting” mods I plan to do down the road are the TOMEI UELH, a catted Jpipec and an intake with a pro tune
That sounds like it will be more than enough fun for the streets!
mine set was turboxs catted jpipe grimmspeed fmic grimmspeed electric boost controller grimmespeed turbo inlet and killer be header
2015 Sti owner here. Picked it up with 50,000 miles back in September. It’s been very reliable so far, I’ve put 6,000 miles on it. I don’t plan on heavily modifying it because of my warranty, holding its value, and reliability. Since I’ve had it I’ve replaced a power steering rack and that’s supposedly pretty common to have them leak on the 2015 and 2016s. Exhaust is coming in the mail, I have plans for the cylinder 4 cooling mod, and and AOS for helping solve some known issues. I’ve researched turbo Subarus for 3 years after owning a 2011 Impreza for 3 years. I hope to put another 100,000 miles on it. I love it to death, and hope for many more memorable experiences with it. Nice STI you got, nice clean layout. Exterior plans are STI limited lip (small sti badge in front and center), powder coat the wheels gold (08-14 style wheels), match the front tint windows to the back, rear spats, exhaust, and mud flaps. Hope you keep it for a long time, I love Subarus to death too 🍻
Awesome sounds like you are passionate about that car I love it also don’t plan on selling it anytime soon. Good luck with the build! I will be posting more videos soon also hope they can help with your build.
@@JotaJotaSTI Most likely, you do not need an AOS. As long as your engine is healthy, you should see minimal oil moving through the PCV system, especially if you are just driving on the street....or am i wrong? can you please educate me on this. thanks
Wow this is my dream car.. but coming from a Toyota truck not having to worry about reliability....this video made me rethink actually getting an sti ...
Car is fragile you just have to make sure to take care of it and you'll be fine lol
@@JotaJotaSTI Agreed! Just take car of your sti and not redline it every time you hit the high way.
i just got my base 2018 wrx and its suuuch a fun drive, its a great car to have as a second car ever at 18
That is awesome congrats!
Really good video bro thank you so much. Very descriptive and Informative. Would you consider making a part 2 on some other mods you recommend for people who do daily and spirted driving. I would love to know more about fuel systems, boost controllers, and maybe recommend coolants diff fluids, etc. I would love to know some more support mods that you may have left out and wanted to add in this video. Thank you!
Hey thanks for the support! Yea I will look into some other ways that can help make your Subaru more reliable like maintenance and driving tips.
Love the short vids on the last two JJ! Gotta remember those cards tho! Haha! Well done!
Lol thanks! Shameless plugs lol
Love the video, great content, and awesome mods. 1 thing I disagree with you about is @ 1:12 You said the engines are fragile and you are semi right semi wrong. At stock the engine arent that fragile. It went you start throwing mods and power at it. Also depends on how you drive.
Yea that is true what I meant is compared to other cars that come with engines that can take more of a beating before breaking down. I remember I had an SRT-4 and I would run it all the time no issues with a lot of mods lol
I thought they fix d the cylinder 4 problem.... I gotta look this up again
Lol I literally have everything except a bigger intercooler and elh, next for sure.
Awesome hope the car is running good
Had an sti. This time around bought a brand new no mileage wrx 2018 base model for the new FA2.0 motor. Believe they fixed most of the major issues on the FA20 compared to the ej275. Do still recommend the supporting mods. Like he said can beat it And drive it with little to no worries
That's awesome enjoy the new car!
Yes good video i have a 18 sti owned couple yrs recently bought 2 of ur 4 suggestions didnt know bout the radiator though thats my next buy along with the oil pick up for the 6 relible mod🤓🤓
Nice take care of her! Lol
6. A middle finger for all the Civics, Focus, and Evos
Lol
Almost 2K !!! Yeah buddy!!!
😳 thanks bud!
@@JotaJotaSTI No prob J!!!
i don’t do any of those other things he said but i do have an AOS😆
That is really important!
Nice to see brother. Hope all is well JJ
Thanks Craig same to you bro!
Just sold my 2017 WRX tuned around and bought a STI.
Nice you will love it!
I just bought my 2020 sti everyone already is like it’s going to blow up I’m already thinking I fucked up.
Me too bud but lucky for us the 2019+ STI are more durable
You just can’t be cheap with it take care of it and change oil on time and you’ll be fine.
Do you need an Air oil separator on the normal WRX? Or just sti
You had me in the first 3 but switching to EL headers now that's where I draw the line lmao
How about I just keep it stock because if shit goes wrong i won’t have a problem with Subaru denying warranty work. 🤷🏻♂️ I agree with all these mods to make it reliable and for longevity but unfortunately SOA doesn’t.
Maybe after the 5yr/60k miles you can do them lol
Nice floor.
Thanks!
So you buy a car that you know is not reliant from the manufacturer. 🤔
Not knocking y’all, I want a wrx but not pulling the trigger until they consistently put out good vehicles.
They are reliable
I would wait for the new ones
Why dont you go buy honda civic or toyota corolla? lol
talking about reliability when you cant even afford WRX. lol
Lol every car has its weakness it’s not just Subarus
the fa20 (wrx) is extremely reliable, these are mods you would do along side a simple daily driver tune to cure the ridiculous rev hang.
I would like to do the AOS and Cyl 4 cooling mod, etc and all the reliability mods but am skeptical about voiding the warranty. Need to do more research.
You can call your local dealership about that some of them are cool about it.
I just got a 2020 WRX Premium trim. My thoughts about the warranty are: how long are you going to keep the car, are the mods going to be obvious and noticeable if dealership maintenance is needed, and what are your goals with the car? Also, are you willing to bite the bullet for out of pocket costs of repairs if you lose the factory warranty? How good are your PM habits? How confident are you in knowing that this is YOUR car and if it brings you joy to modify it and make it match your personality and preferences then you reserve the right to make it awesome if you want to? Some things to think about (that I've been considering also).
P.S.
Do it. 😉
Forgot about the most Important. Killer b oil pan kit
How many miles do you recommend before getting your intake valves walnut blasted? Currently sitting at 25k miles on a stage 1 flash and I want to get this done before AOS.
WRXperts can help you with any other questions you can reach out to them on Instagram or Facebook
You mentioned cylinder 4 cooling due to the headers, but if you get the equal length headers is that mood not necessary anymore?
That is a good question I would say no but I kept mine on after I got headers since it wont hurt to have added cooling.
When would you say these mods are necessary? I currently have the Cobb cat back, access port, and intake on my STI but never heard of any of this stuff. I am new to Subaru but I happen to live really close to Cobb in Austin so I went with there products because I know the name and quality is good.
The sooner the better. Intake and AP can void your warranty depending on if the dealer feels like doing so lol
Is your roof wrapped it painted? I want to do a black roof at some point
It is wrapped I have a how to video on it in my STI playlist.
Do u need an AOS if you’re bone stock?
Hey jota! in the south kendall area, on top of reliability, when it comes to gas, do you have a recommended place maybe to go to? I got my block rebuilt with Greg at mgw, and unfortunately was running the cheaper Costco gas and did experience a small bit of knock when protuning.
I have done a little research on this and I want to do more and maybe do a video on it. I use Shell and a tip is to use a gas station that is always busy so you know their gas is freshly restocked and hasnt been sitting there for awhile.
Be careful getting an aftermarket radiator as it can be too efficient causing your engine to not get to its ideal operating temperature
Should people only get an aftermarket radiator if they have preformance mods?
@@sinkbuddy5286 I'm not an expert or mechanic, I'd do your own research and ask around. From what I've heard, a stock rad is sufficient up to 300-400bhp I think
Did he seriously just suggest... equal... length... headers....? ITS AN STI BRO
Trust me I like the UEL more but this is for reliability lol
What are the specs on those rims
18x9.5 +38mm 255/40R18
I Love Mods!
Lol don’t we all!
@@JotaJotaSTI Yes!
Can you install a catback exhaust and air intake without a tune?
Catback yes but the intake needs a tune
This video should be called "How not to SIMP and Subaru stuff."
I like it
🙌🙌
Bro what do you know. I don’t wear a mask in public. And I don’t have an aos. It’s like he knows me 🥺😂
Lmao
Will these mods make the car slower?
No not at all
@@JotaJotaSTI thank you!
Isn't the cylinder 4 cooling mod only for the ej257 platform?
WRXperts can help you with any other questions you can reach out to them on Instagram or Facebook
No, it’s for any ej turbo engine that doesn’t have equal length headers
How do these mods affect factory warranty?
Depends on the dealership. Some are cool with it but I would ask them first.
Will any of these mods void the warranty?
Yes some will but it depends on how strict your local Subaru dealership is. Some won't care if you modify it a little so it's kind of at your own risk or maybe call them.
Free mod. let the thing stock. it will last for decades :)
Want a faster car buy a faster car.
Lol
I am not needy!? I just want to come before your car... maybe finally get a ring on my finger... normal things
Did you not hear about that whole ringland failure thing? Scary ...
JotaJota STI not funny
JJ, black Friday is only four months away....start saving...you should be able to find a good deal!
Do I need a tune to run equal length headers
Guys I just got a 18 Sti, do I need a tune for any of these mods? I know the Subaru engines are kinda sensitive
UEL manifold all day.
I agree for the sound but for health of the motor ELH unfortunately
@@JotaJotaSTI if subaru cared about the health they wouldn't have made it like that to begin with.
How much power you reach on this setup?
I believe during this time I was at 300whp/350tq
What if I decide to keep my uel and get the cylinder 2&4 cooling mod?
Is that okay?
Yes I have UEL headers on my STI still with the cylinder 4 cooling mod
@@JotaJotaSTI thanks a lot man
hm did cyl 4 cooling modd cost you?
You can check on Torque Solution website to see what it runs for now
Does the access port always stay plugged in? Just installed stage 1+
It doesn’t have to be. It is used to monitor your car after time has been installed.
plug it in every once in a while, if not you'll be dissecting every little number and working yourself into a panic.
Patrick hiphop 5 months later motor blew, lol
Can i just drive the car. this is alot why would they make a car that sounds unreliable
Well if you keep it stock you have warranty. Once you start nodding you increase chances of things going wrong.
Sup bud ! Sup with the rap shit bro ?
Don’t like my rap skills? Lol
The Wearing a Mask part is kinda embarrassing but good info otherwise
Lol thanks
haha subaru owners funny
lol
lost me at wearing a mask.
Lol
Bye!
@@retiredtidepodeater3339 dudes prolly got like 6 boosters and hides in his moms basement wearing a helmet.
@@soybeaner85 How DARE someone take reasonable precautions to protect their health and the health of those around them! The sheer nerve of them!
Because the mask was helpful, just like the vaccine
Buy some clothes. Never dress poor
Great advice Brad lol
Does it require a tune once you install the AOS? Or any of these 5 mods for that matter?
cobb aos and iag street wont require a tune since they retain the pcv system and basically reroute the oil, however, an aos that vents to atmosphere like the iag competition will need a tune since it bypasses the pcv system on the car. only things that would require a tune on this list would be the headers, hope this helps!
Not for the AOS. A rule of thumb is usually anything that messes with Fuel, Air, Spark or Timing should be tuned.
Great explanation!
