Damn. With Huion is always an *aaaaalmost there*. I really have big expectations for their next tablet monitor which I believe will be an upgrade on resolution (either 2k or 4k).
Honestly though, the problems mentioned in this review (except for the stand, that you can fix yourself) seem to have already been corrected via drivers update. This tablet is lit for its price tag.
I'm so glad other companies are finally making decent tablet displays. $1,000 for a Cintiq Pro 13 and an extra $80 for side buttons! Not to mention the faulty drivers, unresponsive remote, and limited tilt angles. People have to sell a kidney just to make art, and that's ridiculous. Huion seems to be improving their products aggressively and listening to what artists want, and offering reasonable prices, so I'm definitely inclined to try some of their products.

Hope this helps people out there. Huion is a really great brand.

They are not allowed to say negatives They are not allowed to say the bugs They are not allowed to post they must review it to the company. They are telling him to use your own money You stop reviewing tablets. They stop sending you stuff.
After watching a ton of your reviews, I ordered this one! Looking forward to seeing how smooth the lines are; hopefully there won't be any wobble that was mentioned. Hope to let you guys know some good news in a couple of days.
@@GrumpBurger So the short answer is: there is a little bit of wavy line if you draw really slowly, but not enough for me to return it. At my normal drawing speed, there's virtually no wavy lines and it works just fine (although it may vary depending on the manufacturing standards... hope you can get a good one!) I actually got a couple of discounts on Amazon and I think this screen is pretty good value for what I paid ($269). My main issue with it is that the calibration software is NOT accurate. The default calibration works better for me at this time (but I have read others complain that their tablets did not come with a good default calibration), and I do hope that Huion will address this issue to help minimize parallax near the edges of the screen. I think I am going to keep this tablet until I can get an actual Wacom because parallax and wavy lines are an issue to some degree on all 3rd party screen tablets, but this one is probably the best value for ~$300.
Please keep us updated here on any driver improvements and updates. The thing that worries me is how quickly these Chinese manufacturers keep on updating their product line. Is your product going to become unsupported with updates and become worthless on the used market within 6 months? At least you know a wacom is going to hold it's value and remain supported for 5 to 10 years.
With as many valid gripes people have with Wacom, their commitment to continued support for devices that have been discontinued for years is commendable. It's how I was able to keep using my Intuos3 reliably for nearly ten years, from Windows XP all the way to Windows 10!
I can't talk for all their devices but I'm a +10 years wacom user too but around 2012, I've bought a Huion H610 Pro and it still works flawlessly. And about a month or two ago I've bought a Xp-pen Deco 03 and so far, I can't complain. It's not the best tablet I ever use but definitely not bad. TD;DR : I think Huion at least is doing a great job keeping my +10 year tablet alive. (P.S: The 3 tablets also works quite well together on the same computer , I have no driver issue in a very long time expect a bit in the beginning).
I've loved this tablet so much - I've used it for two years on my old computer and it was glorious. I then got a newer pc that supported the Adobe programs and when I set everything up I also installed the Huion again. My whole pc crashed and couldn't be restored with all its data lost. I don't know what happened, but the Huion Support was very apathetic about this. I didn't get any support and not even a single cent to overcome the loss of data, time and money I had to spent to repair my pc :( Since that I've never touched a Huion again
If you press the screen settings button instead of holding it in you can change the touch bar to change from zoom, scroll and brush size. I alternate between all 3 settings all the time when drawing.
excuse me sir, if i may to ask question, im planning to do pixel art for game development , some sketches and drawings and by looking at your vids, surface pro 4 and artisul 13 and 16 , and this caught my attention. while surface 5 and 6 out of my budget reach i want the surface pro 4 because its a full blown computer and you can also use it as a work device but when drawing it has wobbly line , while artisul got a clean one, and this one is just..kinda nice. plus if i bought the drawing tablet i kinda got a second screen which is nice which are recommended for the one i mentioned especially for pixel art? i know pixel art is just kinda placing 'blocks' but i also want to study some digital drawings as well im jsut confused since soo many drawing tablets are released thank you !
Interesting that you mentioned the pen jitter. That is also the reason why I love watching your reviews. You are very thorough. I watched a couple other reviews on this tablet that didn’t report such a big jitter. I am not really sure that I want to go for a 13 inch anyway I‘d rather have a 15 or one of the big ones but I still consider. But as for you I need crisp lines so this would be a deal breaker as well :)
It is likely because he didnt update the driver. Noone else talked about the issue, so im not sure if it should be taken very seriously. Tis is good to be careful though.
Owned the Pro 13 for about half a year now. Some major drawbacks I've noticed: 1) Pretty distinctive offset even after updating the firmware of driver to correct the issue. It bothers me so much to the point I blessedly appreciate the accuracy of the Pro 22, which I understand- you get what you pay for. BUT it also seems to fall behind for me since I've had played around with a 2002 Motion Computing Tablet PC, and it had a MUCH better parallax than the Pro 13. Huion claim it's a laminated display but ehh... Can't say I'm too impressed with this one. 2) The battery runs hot after 10-15 minutes of continuous usage. You will need to give it a rest every moment or so. 3) It will not run properly with PS CS6 for quite a few people, including myself. I've encountered jumping lines while drawing and having my cursor way off the mark. Other programs will be fine. 4) Those 3 in 1 cables do not last long for some people, even in the best shape. Some will stop working all together out of nowhere. The cable is $50-$45 to replace. If you lose a connection with your Pro 13, most likely the monitor itself is fine, it's the damn defective cables they keep churning out. 5) Want to extend your display instead of mirroring? You may get lucky and have no issue OR your rip your hair out trying to calibrate it correctly and get the cursor to match properly. Just don't be me and hit Administrator Privileges before hitting the settings you want (not Windows Administrator Privileges, but Huion 's Administrator Privileges in the driver application) and it should apply. Huion often discounts this tablet for a fairly low price. That's what drew me into getting it and giving it a shot as I wanted something on the go paired with my laptop while I have the Pro 22 stationed at home. I think it's like $265 usd atm which is a steal. It's great for beginners or anyone moving away from old tablets so anyone should knock it out. For me, it does the job despite having some erks here and there. But I definitely see a noticeable performance gap between Huion's higher end and budget pen displays. It shows all too much and makes me conclude that I would not mind dishing out more for a better quality product.
@@triss.2540 No problem! Always willing to share. (definitely go for newer models of cintiq btw! They're cintiq 1 and 2 had units with loose adapter plug issues) wish you luck!
Just want to tell people who are interested in the tablet. There is a big offset which is a bit offputting. The screen is a bit difficult to be working with. It's better to use this tablet without the screen but then you could just as well buy one of the cheaper models. I don't recommend buying it until Huion fix the offset issue which is crucial for a tablet with a screen since otherwise there is no point in having the screen.
Wavy lines happens in all screen tablets as some have discovered. Even if it's individual of the computer and brand of screen tablet, it is a problem with some form of bottlenecking when processing the strokes. In one case a user experienced it with a low limit of their Photoshop RAM useage, but upon increasing the amount of RAM photoshop can take advantage of, the issue disappeared. Meanwhile someone else had problems with their new GTX1080 (when those were new) interferering with the processing "somehow" (I forgot the article). What I took from the solutions it's usually not the tablets own fault. While it can sometimes be a tablet driver issue, it can just as well be an issue with another piece of hardware driver. I've seen wobbles with ALL of the leading tablet brands. Hopefully they'll be resolved in the next generation of tablets, but if not it might be time to upgrade your system. That said, some newer computer setups might have problems your old ones doesn't. Which just begs the question if these people know what the heck they're even doing.
i am stoked to see cintiq alts implementing some of the features favored by wacom, such as the reduced parallax and tilt. tilt is one of those things where i don't notice it until it's gone, as many brushes i own and make utilize it in some way. it tends to be very subtle and only on certain tools but really makes drawing/painting in certain media feel more true to life. if i were in the market, those negatives may be stopping me from getting it, but i am optimistic that their next generation of these displays are going to be on point.
Besides that thing about the lines that I guess are now fixed I also want to add something: You CAN change the size of the brush with that slider thingy on the side. You switch the functionality with the bottom button. Idk if this is something you didn't have though, maybe that and the wobbly lines was something they added on more recent updates. Anyway, great review!
@@RicardoSilva-ln7lm when I made that comment I was just speaking from what I knew from watching all the other reviews about the tablet. Yesterday however, I received mine! It's not this one though, it's an even newer 12 inch version, but they're pretty much the same thing. I bought this slightly smaller one because it was with its first price of 260€... I didn't even think twice.. (I had to pay 130€ more because my country is fucking stupid, but that's besides the point.. And still, this thing is worth even more so it's fine). I haven't tried it yet, I connected it and installed the driver, it worked correctly and was super easy so there's no problems there at least. I will mess around with it tonight so if you want to know about the wobbly lines I can test that (I did a few strokes on photoshop when I opened it to see if it was working with the pen and everything looked fine, but I need to actually test it properly and slowly). It might be different from the 13inch one though when it comes to the lines so mine might work (or not) and if you decide to get the one in the video you could get different results... One thing I can tell you though... It's fucking beautiful and the build quality is amazing, it's even better than what I thought and the screen quality and colors are amazing as well (the reviews are not lying when they say this might be the BEST tablet out there for the price).. I have a hard time believing even wacom's tablets are that much better for 1k€..
ah the wobbling stripes is a concern for me... i'm glad i'm still doing my research, almost purchased it... thanks for your honest and super detailed review!!
Ok, now I have a big problem, I guess. I never used display tablets before, so I have no experience in such a thing, just in intuous like most of the people. So, the problem is that this tablet has the same price as an xp-pen 15.6, i watched almost 3 hours reviews with both of them, I read some comments and I don't know what to choose. Personally, I would choose the Kamvas 13 pro, but there is this discussion about the wobble lines which holds me back. Some people said that the problem was recently fixed, can someone reliable to confirm? If not, what would you choose? Thanks a lot guys for helping.
@@bluescreentobsen What I do know is that a lot of folk have said to me that all should be resolved with the latest driver updates. We can only hope that's true.
Any chances you can do a test with the new firmware update they released in december? i read it fixed the woobliness, would love to see your take on it. Kind regards
First of all... Your work is whimsical and very good. But more over, I've watched several reviews for this tablet. There's an online artist who's work I admire from Australia. However, he's loved huion for so long, I didn't realize his review was honest yet a tad bias. It wasn't until the videos from you and Lawrence Mann that I learned about the pen wobble and the fix among other things and I truly appreciate it. If you had to recommend between the kamvas pro 13 and the 156hd v2 would you suggest one?. They're about the same price now, I just have trouble deciding with pen, gamut etc. Thanks in advance if you get a chance to answer
Hi Brad. We are thinking of this for daughter’s birthday present. She uses her iPad mini at the moment with some free app. What software should I buy for her laptop so she can draw like you are. Thank you.
I had no problems with wiggles on the lines, not even drawing pretty slow (didn’t test with ruler though) but one issue was the color calibration was a bit green/blue if you could make a “tutorial for proper colors” it could be amazing D: (Mac user) and mine didn’t came with a glove :c
hey brad, recently i bought Wacom One tablet and it has the same kinda wave line but not as bad as in this video. So i wonder do you have any similar issue with Wacom tablet or have tried the Wacom One itself? Wacom one is geared to the asian market though and i couldn't find much review before buying it. So, buyer's remorse i guess
@Brad Colbow -> can you do an updated review on this to see if the upgraded drivers since this review have corrected the issues you had (i.e. squiggly lines)
I was wondering. Is it because of Sketchbook? Also, Huion Pen is very Slippery. I already told a representative of Huion about this when they held an exhibition in Thailand.
Hi, can you use procreate with the Huion? Can stickers be made from the huion? I am asking because I am looking to start my own shop and I'm hoping that the h u i o n will be compatible with that task
hello I'm very undecided between the xp-pen artist pro 16 and the hunion 13 hd what I'm looking for is the quality of the colors, and the best tablet say value for money .. in short, what would you recommend? use sopretutto for photographic retouching (not only but above all)
I have a Huion pro 13 and it is great but recently it started to mess up and I have to press pretty hard in order for the lines to work this happened yesterday and when I switch to eraser it stops working soo I chose a huion because of the price it’s a Good tablet for a beginner like me but if you are not a beginner get a Wacom or a huion” past” pro 13
Just curious, but I have question. When using Adobe Illustrator can you make adjustments within the program to calibrate how straight your lines will be.... or curve sensitivity? I'm new to both Illustrator and the tablet, in fact I will be taking classes for Graphic Design in January. Somebody let me know, because I'm looking to buy a tablet. Thanks!!
u said it Initial activation force was on the high side, and then it improved and came down. Did it come down to the IAF in wacom cintiq displays, that's 1 gram feather touch.
I would like to know if between the kamvas 13 and the kamvas pro 13, which is better? And I wanted to know if I can power the kamvas pro 13 purely by computer and not have to rely on a wall outlet. Sorry if you answered and I missed it.
Thanks bro!Is there drivers refreshing with a new recently, or it's doesn't matter?!Seems to be almost the same price, for small and bigger graphic drawing displays, so still want to decide whats good.I worked with a wacom intuos manga, but its slow, not good to look at two places at the same time. So, displays are best replacements.
So if people buy from your links, at Amazon.. You can affort a completely new tablet for that money? That sounds like something I should be doing! But I live in Sweden, and Amazon does not exist here yet. Amazon is very small, non-existent here. These tablets must be imported from England, and with adapters. It kinda sucks, from USA, the toll fee is extreme. Good review man, thanks.
my pro 13 arrived today and it's my first pendisplay. My problem is that the pen draws without touching the tablet. Is this a common problem? I would apreciate if someone could help me with this ^_^
Hey Brad! Do you know if this tablet needs to be plugged to the wall or usb is enough? Asked huion but never answered, i'm looking for a small screen tablet that's really portable so i don't want to be limited by that. Thanks for the review!
Well now I'm worried because I already ordered this drawing tablet and I saw a couple other reviews and they didn't have jitter problems on the lines and that the pen performed very well which convinced me to buy it given it's also laminated and the price is very good. But after this review now I'm worried. Hmmmmmm 😐
Yeah dude dont worry, all the other reviews are good , this guy probably didnt install the latest driver and just used the one from the box which will obviously cause problems! Alot of people got it and said it was perfect , probably his mistake
This model is on sale right now, Have the issues with the lines improved over time with software updates? I used to have the normal 13, but it died and I was gonna upgrade.
hello, I have a question, between the xppen artist 12 and huion kamvas pro 13, what do you think is best to start? I want to start doing animation and I have already a wacom intuos tablet for the beginners but i would like a tablet with a screen so that it's easier... So let me know please because it's hard to choose!
Hello there! I'm brand new into this world of digital painting. I wish to buy a pen display tablet and your reviews are very helpful! Please excuse me for that basic question ... are those tablets works without being connected into a computer? When I listen to you videos it sound like it will not. do they need to be connected to the wall for electricity? if not, what is there power autonomy? Thanks. N
I've never had a drawing tablet before and I was wondering if you have to attach it to a computer to use it or you can use it just by itself. P.s. sorry if I sound stupid
How’s the wobbly line problem right now? Did they update the drivers? I use a Wacom stylus on my iPad and it’s extremely wobbly on everything so I want to buy a drawing display that doesn’t wobble.
Exactly, I saw other reviews and no pen wobble at all so I went ahead and ordered given it was on discount. Now with this review I'm a bit worried because I don't want jittery lines but I already paid for it so I'll have to see because the other 2 reviews I saw didn't have this issue 😶
Mine works correctly, I don't know what problem he has with the one he has but I don't have any problems with the buttons or with the stand. In short, I think it's perfect.
Clara EP I’m assuming he was using the tablet driver that was provided in the box with the disk :) if you download the latest driver they would have fixed the problems etc :3
Hello. Can i use this tablet to write or make notes on microsoft one note? I am teaching maths and i need something like this which allows me to do maths problems on onenote. Will this tablet serve my purpose??
Hi, I am new to pen display graphic tablets. So i dont really know much about it but i'm trying to learn here plus i'm planning to buy this product as i was recommended this model by the huion sales rep as she said this was good for beginners. Can you tell me how exactly pen display tablets connect with laptops? Do they just mirror the laptop screen or do i have to transfer my stuff from the laptop to the tablet?
Nerisa Lobo pen tablets like this one act as a monitor you can draw on but it doesn't have a storage the way an iPad does. You don't have to transfer your files from your pc to this huion tablet because it can't be done. It's usually plugged in via an hdmi cable and there's a power plug because tablets like this on this price range don't have it's own battery. It can either mirror your screen or be used as a screen extension depending on your display preferences
Why did this unit included with glove? Is the tablet responds to unintended touches? Or there is any settings that can turn on n off for touch respond??
Yes, it comes with an anti-smudge glove that covers your pinkie and thumb. I personally don't use it all that much because the screen is matte. And no, the tablet only responds to the stylus- not to touch.
I have got me presale tablet sitting nicely on the table, I wish they add a snap on the feature for where you put the tablet on the stand. Dropped it twice when the tablet just slid off the ledge, strange that they cut space there. The stand itself is a fine little-included feature, but if everythign could snap/hold itself in place. That would be nice.
This thing just won't work with my new MacBook Pro 13-inch. It connects sometimes and sometime it doesn't. It goes into power saving mode after about 2 or 3 seconds and I have yet to be able to access the OSD to make any changes regarding color calibration or anything else for that matter. Looks like this will go in the bin and I'll be going back to a Wacom product again.
I recently bought a Huion Kamvas 13 pro and I have a little issue with calibration. Usually when I'm tilting the pen, coursor is not matching ending of the pen, so I can’t draw precisly. Have you guys seen this before? Is it normal?
Like you, I found the touch bar on the kamvas pro 13 to be uncustomizable. For me, it will only change brush size. I had hoped to use it as a sliding touch zoom tool, because the advertising seemed to suggest it could be used that way. It looks like you're able to zoom without the touch bar though, so how are you zooming?

I think I am going to keep this tablet until I can get an actual Wacom because parallax and wavy lines are an issue to some degree on all 3rd party screen tablets, but this one is probably the best value for ~$300.
@@TheCobyRandal did a driver update help at all with the wavy pen

(P.S: The 3 tablets also works quite well together on the same computer , I have no driver issue in a very long time expect a bit in the beginning).
don’t worry about that, they will keep supporting at least until the new framework of operating system is to complicated for the old hardware
I've read that they released an update that fixed the wavy line problem
Problem is fixed
I've loved this tablet so much - I've used it for two years on my old computer and it was glorious. I then got a newer pc that supported the Adobe programs and when I set everything up I also installed the Huion again. My whole pc crashed and couldn't be restored with all its data lost. I don't know what happened, but the Huion Support was very apathetic about this. I didn't get any support and not even a single cent to overcome the loss of data, time and money I had to spent to repair my pc :( Since that I've never touched a Huion again
it was your pc not huion
Hunion should put on a magnetic back to connect the stand for the Kamvas Pro. It would be a simple and smart approach to hold the stand in place.
04:00 the review on Brad's own website says the wobbly lines have been fixed with a firmware update.
if you have the budget you should get the Wacom 13 pro its a GREAT tablet
My only question is that if it’s a Good Tablet or use for Beginners
If you press the screen settings button instead of holding it in you can change the touch bar to change from zoom, scroll and brush size. I alternate between all 3 settings all the time when drawing.

I read another review, it said you need to update the firmware to reduce wooble and the lines surely looks less woobly
Brad Colbow where is the surface go review!!!
excuse me sir, if i may to ask question, im planning to do pixel art for game development , some sketches and drawings and by looking at your vids, surface pro 4 and artisul 13 and 16 , and this caught my attention. while surface 5 and 6 out of my budget reach
i want the surface pro 4 because its a full blown computer and you can also use it as a work device but when drawing it has wobbly line , while artisul got a clean one, and this one is just..kinda nice. plus if i bought the drawing tablet i kinda got a second screen which is nice
which are recommended for the one i mentioned especially for pixel art? i know pixel art is just kinda placing 'blocks' but i also want to study some digital drawings as well
im jsut confused since soo many drawing tablets are released
thank you !
@@kyo614 You can preorder this tablet on tokopedia its cheaper than artisul 13
Some major drawbacks I've noticed:
1) Pretty distinctive offset even after updating the firmware of driver to correct the issue.
Thank you so much for this! I guess I'll just save up for cintiq instead
@@triss.2540 No problem! Always willing to share. (definitely go for newer models of cintiq btw! They're cintiq 1 and 2 had units with loose adapter plug issues) wish you luck!
This is extreamly helpful. ty
Good to know
Wavy lines happens in all screen tablets as some have discovered.
Which just begs the question if these people know what the heck they're even doing.
i ordered this 2 days ago and i was scared that it isn't good , thx for this video
i am stoked to see cintiq alts implementing some of the features favored by wacom, such as the reduced parallax and tilt. tilt is one of those things where i don't notice it until it's gone, as many brushes i own and make utilize it in some way. it tends to be very subtle and only on certain tools but really makes drawing/painting in certain media feel more true to life. if i were in the market, those negatives may be stopping me from getting it, but i am optimistic that their next generation of these displays are going to be on point.
Thanks for this review brooooo
You helped me with choosing tablet really much
Besides that thing about the lines that I guess are now fixed I also want to add something:
You CAN change the size of the brush with that slider thingy on the side. You switch the functionality with the bottom button. Idk if this is something you didn't have though, maybe that and the wobbly lines was something they added on more recent updates.
Anyway, great review!
Is the wobbly lines corrected in driver updates already? how do you konw that? thanks

Hi, I'm about to buy a drawing tablet and still confused if I'll buy a huion kamvas 13 or an xp-pen artist 13. So which do you guys prefer?
hi, i'm having exactly the same doubt. which one didyou end up getting?
Great point about the power button
hey brad, recently i bought Wacom One tablet and it has the same kinda wave line but not as bad as in this video.
I really wanna get this.. but i feel like 13 inches is too small... if you've used this pls, i'd like to know if it's comfortable to draw on.. Thanks!
I just want to say that it doesnt really matter how big or small your tablet is, you'll probably get used to it anyway
Do I need 2 screens to operate this tablet... I'm having a lot of difficulty figuring how to use the screen

Like you, I found the touch bar on the kamvas pro 13 to be uncustomizable. For me, it will only change brush size. I had hoped to use it as a sliding touch zoom tool, because the advertising seemed to suggest it could be used that way.
