I like the fact that you funded this review yourself. I've always felt your reviews are pretty fair. As a matter of fact, I've purchased two drawing displays largely based on your reviews. But it definitely adds to the credibility of your critiques that you sometimes spend your own money on products to review.
@@joeyjanssen1 the reason he finds the huion tablets him self is because they sent him one a couple years ago and they tried to sway his review and make him not say stuff that was bad and say fake stuff that was good and he said no and woudnt do it and know they wont send him any tablets free so he has to pay for it Also the product sells its self, if the product was terrible and had horrible wavy lines and did not work he would have to tell us because everyone would commenting and giving him hate So as long ad the tablet is actually good then he can try sell it more but the tablet needs to be decent first.

For example I love drawwithjazza but he dont review any xp-pen stuff because huion pay him to review their stuff
@@KodiGuides well I don't know anything about this TH-camr but when I get items in exchange for a review. I give an honest review, if there's something I don't like about it I'll say so. Same goes for most reviewers I follow.
The lag is because you are using smoothing feature on the Photoshop (22% smoothing is actually a very high number and noticeably slows down the cursor). If you need to mention input lags, it's really (seriously) better to do the specific tests on Mspaint, since it is actually really good at reflecting the raw input without any afterprocessing.
@@musicpatron1693 Smoothing feature requires program to actually wait for a certain period of time to accumulate samples of recent stroke path. Pen lag is literally how smoothing feature works. Ain't no processors will be able to change that.
@@brankelly1921 totally, the cintiq pro 16 costs $1500, that's at least $500 too much when Huion and other brands can do almost the same for $750 (without the touch screen, but then wacom doesn't even offer a tablet without touch screen unless you want to give up express keys and 4k and pay $600 anyway lol in which case you can buy the same from Huion for $400 and get the express keys anyway lmao) imo there should be a 16 inch pen display from wacom with touch screen, but in full hd and with express keys for not more than $800, then you would pay twice the amount than for the same Huion without touch screen, which is definitely enough
Jup i noticed that weird thing in the options menu and was looking at the box but there was clearly no mention of any touch functionality so i disabled it and found the same thing as you, have nice day^^
I've owned a Wacom Intuos Pro for 7 years. I wanted to switch to a screen tablet so I bought the Huion Kamvas Pro 13 for 400 USD. It worked like a dream and it was worth it.
@@thelastcube. not really, regular pen tech was already great a few year ago. I have an Intuos pro 4 which was launched in 2009. I also use a new Intuos at work, the performance is the same (perfect).
their products are garbage and you will regret you purchase. I stick to Wacom even if i hate them too, at least it's a real company, not a bunch of scammers. Huion is totally crooked, i would rather go back to paper than buying one of their product again.
I'm in China and apart from "warm tip" they tend to say translate to "warm prompt" as well sometimes. It's just a funny translation due to the way chinese works
@@justov3049 It doesn't really mean anything in particular. "Hot tip" usually refers to a useful piece of advice. From that, we can assume a "warm tip" is a tip that isn't quite as useful but still helps.
When you do the "ruler test" I suggest to keep the smoothing to 0% and the size of the brush as small as you can and hardness to 100%. In this way you can show if there are jittering or pixel jumping problems. ;) With 20% smoothing also crap tablet shows decent lines.
I just won an auction for one of these on eBay ... saw it with 20 mins spare and was watching this review on double speed while doing my research at the same time. Got it for around half current list price June 2020 and with the official stand included. People, buy used for the planet and for your financial well-being! Thanks Brad!
The "warm tip" really sold me on this one. Generally most of the "hot tips" aren't really THAT hot anyway, so I appreciate their honesty in the warmth of the tips.
Hey Brad! I bought a Huion Kamvas Pro 16 a few months ago after watching this review. I am running it on a decently fast Windows 10 tower. So far my experience with it has been pretty positive, though you are right; it did take a lot of tweaking. The tablet's construction seems very solid, the software is good, though it has some odd translation errors. The main problem I had with this tablet was getting it to work correctly with multiple displays. It would display at a reduced resolution, or wanted to be part of three screens, which was very awkward. I discovered that changes needed to be made both in the Huion software and in the control panel of my nVidia RTX2070 to fix the problem. At the moment I haven't figured out a way to do that automatically, which is slightly annoying. Once I got that figured out I had to rearrange my desk and add a tray to slide the keyboard and mouse under the desk when I use the tablet. Right now the Huion mirrors the main Windows monitor, and I use the second one for auxiliary stuff. Thanks again for the helpful review and general tips on drawing this way. I have done a lot of illustration, but this is a new experience for me.
XP-Pen has considerably improved its drivers and software since January, and have pretty good customer support. I made a few suggestions a few weeks back in regards to improving the software such as being able to name shortcuts that appear on screen instead of the key combo and they seemed to implement these features shortly after.
After a few months of use, as a relative beginner with digital art, I bought this tabled based on yours and other reviews and I am satisfied. Parallax can get a little annoying sometimes, especially around the edges, but the product overall is solid. I also like having express keys, which actually makes it better for me than a lot of wacoms in a way
Thank you for flipping the tablet albeit quickly. I feel like especially Chinese companies are notorious for making tablets that work only for right-handed folk, even on this one seems like the power button would have logo upside down on left-hand mode and since it’s not re-progammable it would be easier to accidentally shut it down if you use it on your lap. With that said, I love your reviews but would like to see quick ”left-hand flip” added to be added to your checklist: How will the cords set (will they be on the way), how are the side buttons (are they inconvenient if tablet is flipped) and last but not least if it comes with a stand, can you attach the tablet left-hand mode (that stopped me from buying an otherwise seemingly great tablet monitor once).
I bought my Kamvas 16 Pro 3 months ago based on your review. It is really a great piece of hardware! After 3 months of daily use though I think that I should have bought one with larger screen, higher resolution and more programmable hotkeys. The only issue I've come across that is really a problem is that it doesn't show a lot of details in bright areas. No matter how I adjust the screen display settings certain details are visible on my monitor, but not on the drawing tablet screen. In cases like that I have to use the Kamvas like my old Wacom (work on the tablet while looking at the computer monitor).
Really happy about this. Moved to the new Cintiq 16 after the Kamvas Pro 13 burned me fairly hard, and really enjoy it, but definitely happy Huion keeps getting better.
@Gurnski Deti Wrong opinion. Compare price for Huion 22 with Wacom 22 - its similar price! Wacom Cintiq 22 -- $999 And Huion Kamvas Pro 22 - $899 You may find it in Amazon. $100 - its nothing If Huion Kamvas Pro has to price of about $650 - it be nice more for customers, but we haven't any alternative price for these devices. And don't forget about support services - when your device starts lagging and actual drivers update.
I just bought the Cintiq 16 (not pro) and I took a looong time to research, and honestly I still had a hard time between the cintiq and the new kamvas 16. The only thing that made me pick the cintiq in the end was just that wacoms last a long while, and Huions are still too new to know how long they will last.
I am a new Cintiq 16 user myself, but before I got my first Wacom display, I had to use my roommate's Kamvas GT-191 for a few years. Granted, the Cintiq 16 uses older tech, but the feel and quality of the pen is vastly superior. After using a Wacom pen for the first time, I felt that the Huion pens were a tad too spongy (it must have something to do with the retracting spring that 'detects' pressure). Huion pen nibs are also thicker, around twice as thick as Wacom nibs. I prefer thinner nibs since I'm already used to inking pens in traditional art. Lastly, even if both pens have 8192 pressure levels, for some reason the Wacom pen manages to pick up even my lightest strokes. For the Huions, I had to press down a little harder.
@Gurnski Deti now with more experience with my tablet I would say it is worth the price. Wacoms new products are horrible. The main issue with the kamvas right now is that when you tilt the pen while holding the cursor would be offset by a noticeable amount. Also I wish that the pens tip was not springy and as of now you can't go from %100,pressure to 0% pressure as the pen tip would be pressed down and retracted. Huion just needs to fix these issues and improve calibration. Design wise the kamvas is better than the cintiq. The press keys are God send and the materials used are premium. I love it so much. Hopefully the pens tip would improve along with the tilt issue. Worth every penny
*EDIT: i added a review in the reply* I just ordered this same tablet, getting it in 4 days 🥺💕 I'm more of a hobby artist so I'm not making money from my art, but I decided to invest in this anyway because I'm hoping this will last me some years
It's been 3 weeks, I REALLY like this tablet! At first, drawing with the pen on the screen feels really awkward and ripple-y, but you can just go ham for a bit and it'll wear down enough to not be awkward. I personally use it with Clip Studio Paint PRO and FireAlpaca. -If your desktop is 1920 x 1080 then I would recommend mirroring your desktop to the screen tablet, instead of using it as an extended display BECAUSE this specific Kamvas Pro 16 is 1080p! If you extend your screen instead of duplicating, everything will be smooshed. Yes, this means you can't watch Kitchen Nightmares on your pc while you draw on your tablet, and if you decide to do it then it comes with a price lol.- *(Note: I was dumb when I typed that, my display size on windows was set to 150% and it made the monitor look kinda cheap. I set it back to the normal 100% and everything became crisp and clear again 👌)* I'm not sure what the very bottom button does but I use the one above it to Undo, and the one above that to Save my file. 10/10 very convenient! The pen weighs basically nothing. If you're used to using an UGEE, XP-Pen, or Wacom pen, then you'll notice how light it is while you draw with it but it has a nice grip. If you want a heavier pen I'd suggest getting a pen accessory grip for it. If I missed anything let me know lol
I'd love to see how this will directly compared side-by-side with Wacom Cintiq non-Pro 16 and XP-PEN Artist 15.6 Pro, obviously their technology is gonna be different; but XP-PEN and Huion have the advantages of laminated screens. That said, if I ever aim for a screen tablet, this seems like a solid choice; even though the Huion non-Pro Kamvas 16 is also catching my eye. Hm..
He said its better than the nonpro cintiq 16. It's got better color accuracy and a laminated screen (no parallax), where as the non pro 16 fails in both regards.
hiya i got myself the huion kamvas 16 and after reading through a lot of xp pen artist 15.6 pro reviews, theyre actually p similar. Personally i think i regret not getting the xp pen instead because the design looks slightly nicer ( hehe red), more hotkeys, and you dont need to plug the tablet to a power outlet( it can run just from your computer battery)
Lately tested new Wacom and Huion tablet like this. After 1 hour testing one and the other I can tell that my eyes hurted pretty badly after using Huion and Wacom was actually good on eyes, didn’t hurt at all. The colors also were nicer. I wonder if that’s why the prize is that much different.
You could probably stick a bit of blutack or something to the power button to give you an immediate tactile feedback that it's NOT the button you want to press while working.
Good to see there are great alternatives to Wacom out there. My 13 years old Intuos 3 finally failed to work and got myself a non-pro Intuos Medium yesterday (wanted to get the Pro version but can't justify 2X the price and reviews I read aren't all positive) as a stop gap. Man, in just 5 hours of use and the surface is scratched badly and 2 nibs were already replaced.
this is one of those upgrades that really blows it out of the park compared its first generation. i owned the gt 156v2 and seeing them actually add things that people wanted like usb c, better build(which is surprising because the one i have is pretty well build as compared to others) and much bettter display(which was the weakest point) makes me happy.
If lag is the concern there also are other drivers to minimize lag at the cost of some precision, at least for their lower end tablets. However there is absolutely no need for such low lag for drawing, the drivers are meant for games etc.
I really like this review because it gives information on the product since I've been using a wacom intuos pro for all of my digital drawings so far and I wanted to have a digital display tablet as an upgrade so it's nice to hear that the other brands are getting much closer to wacom cus like that I don't have to be a poor boy for too long
super excited to use this. im still very new to art, still in early areas of learning on my own. my tiny little square wacom died after a couple months. it was a handme down. but i snagged this one on lightening deal on amazon for like 250. was able to bundle it with a extra glove and a good stand for about 300. so im super super excited.
I used to have drivers and different software compatibility issues with Wacom. I was surprised how Huion had none of those and even the default calibration felt just right. Also taking their prices and overall quality into account I think it's a steal.
Great review I just wanted to mention that on the last Huion driver update you can now set up by application you can add different graphic software you r using with different settting for each
The Wacom Cintiq pro 24 and 32 come with the ExpressKey Remote in the box so you don't lose hotkeys with those models. I was with you when they took away the ExpressKeys on the Cintiq 27QHD, but after actually using the ExpressKey Remote, I found that it was a much better way to use ExpressKeys at least for me. I am glad they include it in the box for the larger Cintiqs. I wish they would throw it in the box for the smaller ones too. I feel for people willing to cough up $1500 for the Cintiq Pro 16 won't make a stink about spending an extra $100 for the Expresskey Remote. Though I get why it's not in the box. A lot of artists feel like with the latest interfaces the need for Hotkeys is diminished since they have been improving the interface thanks to the fact that the iPad exists. Honestly, when I draw on my favorite 2D art apps I don't have to use hotkeys at all. While I think it is nice that these alternatives are closing the gap, most of them have a deal breaker for me. I use a lot of different apps in my workflow so until Huion adds per app hotkeys it is going to be a deal breaker. In any given day I am using Maya, Blender, Zbrush, and Substance Painter at the very least. Not to mention Marvelous designer, clip studio, photoshop or Houdini. Having to reprogram hotkeys each time I want to change apps would be such a waste of time. It's the reason that I went from a Wacom alternative to a Wacom in the first place. XP-Pen is the only Wacom alternative that I have seen that allows you to customize the hotkeys per app but their UI is clumsy compared to Wacom and the jitter in their pen is just a bit too much for me to ignore. There is a reason Wacom has been able to keep their prices up and not respond to these competitors in price. Overall except for a few exceptions, they are best in class. It's the same reason Intel can charge a price premium and so can Nvidia. I am not ready to trade in my Cintiq for one of these alternatives yet. They still have a way to go.
You are the first to say how the monitor actually needs and works. That puts you above everyone, even Huion themselves who don't come out and say what you can do or achieve with it in the manual. Please keep this level of interest and don't assume. I'm disabled and won't or cannot use it like you. I can't sit at a desk the computer will have to sit on the floor. That's why we ask stupid questions like how it actually works we are trying to setup to our environments. ;)
Brad, you said that you would want the drivers to go deeper like not having to import settings on the express keys. I might be wrong but the Artist 15.6 pro driver have the ability to add applications to express keys like Wacom too, I think.
16 seems to be the sweet spot for me. I had the Cintiq 13hd but moved on to the 16 pretty recently (after your review!) and have played with larger displays but yeah... 16 just seems right.
Brad when you have clean lines you dont have to manually paint in the mask, all you gotta do is click outside the line art with the magic wand tool and ctrl+shift+i to invert your selection, fill it with your color of choice and boom! you got yourself a mask.If the color goes out of the lines just go to select>modify>expand to pull in the ellection a little more before you invert the selection
Good review - I have the Kamvas Pro 13 and my only "con" is the screen proportion - looks like the 15.6 goes for that "panoramic" ratio too. Be interesting to see the Kamvas Pro 16 next to the new XP-Pen Artist 16.
I recently bought a Kamvas Pro 13 last month or so, and one thing that made it almost unusable to me is that there's an uneven cursor displacement to the bottom-right, across the top (lowest) to the to the bottom (highest) of the screen, that I can't get rid of, no matter how much I calibrate the tablet. Did you notice that too? I asked them and they said it's normal, but I doubt it.
Just ordered mine, coming tomorrow! So excited. I've been using huion tablets for years and this will be my favorite by far👌🏽. gonna go through commissions like crazy
BeastKonoha World i just got the xp pen artist 15.6 pro on a flash sale for $307- these seem pretty similar in quality (i love my new tablet), but the biggest drawback i see of this huion is the settings- the typical hot keys for illustrator and photoshop are completely different, and having to re do setting every time you switch seems cumbersome :/ plus the xp pen gets more hot keys and a cool dial, and a power button on the side that won’t be hit accidentally.
@@cute-pat00t Hey just to clarify you are saying that on the XP Pen Pro - you can program the hot keys for different programs and they maintain the settings? Cause when he mentioned it in the video I was curious if that was the same for the XP. I am currently deciding between these two..
Chaotic Moira yes, you can! That’s why i like it. Maybe if you’re only using one program it might be fine, but if you switch between illustrator and photoshop like I do, it would be way too annoying to have to re-input the program key settings every time on the huion. That’s why I think the xp-pen has an advantage in terms of convenience. And it’s a solid tablet beyond that of course.
Shot answer "NO" . 1. The initial expression (touch to start drawing a line) still needs some improvement. 2. Pen pressure sensing still not accurate enough to do cross hatching line. 3. still have some driver problem and jump curser problem.
Awesome review, I have recommended your review to a friend that's looking to get a tablet, I have a HUION Kamvas 16 pro myself and there are only a few minor changes since you reviewed it, they do have an included stand and the Driver Has given me no issues, yes I'm using an Older laptop as well so I felt the driver thing was worth mentioning. Keep up the awesome work and I will continue to follow your work with Grate interest. ^w^
Nice review. I'd love to get one of these, but when this kind of product reaches my country, it ends up costing five times its conventional international price, unfortunately.
If you order it direct from Huion the stand is a $30 upgrade, along with what type of plug you need (US, EU, Japan etc). I agree it would be better for the stand just to be packed in as standard.
Just upgraded to this from the gt-191 and I have to say it is an improvement, particularly with colors and the gamut. It's easier to calibrate and the size is more fitting for the kind of workflow I utilize, and the size of the 191 did seem cumbersome at times. I'm definitely liking this better even if it's slightly smaller. It feels right to me.
I have a gt-191 and this tablet is on sale right now and was wondering on whether i should upgrade or not (esp since my tablet has a crack on it) and this sold me, thanks
I saw another review of kamvas 16 and discovered that it can be used as a Graphic tablet without display. So I think that the enable or activate touch is when you want to use it as a Graphic Tablet
Just bought my Kamvas pro 16 and it came in a few days ago thanks to this review and your Huion Vs Wacom one! I love it and cant wait to start animating :) Thanks so much for these videos
Yes, you need to buy the stand separately, if you buy a bundle from Amazon with a stand, I think it's about 425 dollars, if you buy it from huion around 430 plus shipping or if you just want the stand alone it's like 50 dollars
Not really much to compare. Spec wise they're completely identical and most likely use the same LCD and digitizer. Only real difference is the xp pen one has two more buttons and a wheel instead of a touch bar. Like he said at the end of the video. If you can't decide, flip a coin because outside of the buttons, they're essentially the same product.
My huion broke 1 month after purchase! Save your money! Was loving it until it malfunctioned. The buttons occasionally wouldn't work and pen started drawing in every direction when hovering. Pen was unable to click anything on screen. Even when it was working there is a slight calibration issue on the top and bottom 1" of screen.
Hi Brad, thanks for the review but I believe you missed out some important details. I've bought the Kamvas 16 pro, after watching all reviews available including yours, but one thing nobody mentions is how pro 16 tilt functions work. If you put the pen on one point and tilt it 360, the cursor actually MOVES (even on normal use) and continue painting, this imho is very very bad, wacom tablets doesn't do this. Tilting is supposed to move change only the angle, not moving the cursor, and you don't have any option to turn off tilt either. I hope they can fix it in driver updates, but if they can't, then it is absolutely more inferior than cintiq. No amount of laminate or parallax can fix this annoyance, people change angles all the time during painting, hence your tip and cursor will not always align in Kamvas pro 16. Which is why you can't exactly calibrate your cursor perfectly either, because the calibration take account of your tilt angle. If you click it while your pen is perpendicular to the screen, and tilt your pen slightly while painting, then the cursor will not align. And if you calibrate while your pen is tilted, then when you stroke/dot in perpendicular angle, your cursor will not align. Perhaps you did not feel it, but it's there, and I've told Huion about it and they've acknowledged it. So comparison, no, this is definitely same or better than wacom, Wacom alignment works and accurate, but this one does not. I have even emailed Huion about this, and they have acknowledged that this is software problem across all kamvas. And I think this is a very important details for all buyers there. Until they fix it, it's not recommended.
This. I wish I saw your comment a week ago. I really wish. Now Im stuck with a bad tablet. I paid 150 dollars for customs and shipping. I wish i bought the cintiq. I got this because of the laminated display so less parallax. little did I know
This confirm my inkling. I have just watched a review of huion tablet. The reviewer was painstakingly keeping his pen at the same angle as he draw on the tablet. Thank you very much for this information.
Is this better than the cintiq 16? I had planned on buying the Wacom cintiq 16 but this is tempting, I’ve never used this brand before so I’m a bit sceptical.
@@Userdoesnotexit because the cintiq pro has a laminated screen AND you get to use cintiq pens which are vastly better Far more expensive of course, not worth it IMO, but undeniably better
Do you can make light strokes on this one? I think that's a weak point vs. Xp 15.6 pro. Also, tilt the pen change the cursor position. (even with any tilt features disable)
might be a bit late but to answer some things: "toggle touch" turns the touch strip on and off (I have it disabled because I hit it with my palm by accident) the touch strip should be customizable. try clicking on the top or bottom of the touch strip and see if it gives you options (could be that its not available in this model but I have the Kamvas gt-156HD v2 and it is fully customizable but has no function key.)
Ella M. B. Værland Line Smoothing is indicated by a line, he was not using it. I own that exact tablet, thats whats called input lag and nothing else. Wacom isnt any different on that. Thats no built in line smoothing, its just the time our todays wiring takes.
@@benhardwiesner6963 Actually you are wrong. Line Smoothing gives your line a little delay so it can smooth your line. I have tested this in Photosop and is has the exact same result. This is also the case in drawing programs like Paint Tool Sai and Clip Studio Paint
I just bought one and I'm happy with it. I'm starting to draw with CSP and I'm having fun. Thank you for this helpful review. After I customized buttons I had to turn off & on the display for changes to show up. And the + sign didn't work in their app so I couldn't create certain shortcuts. I did like that's it's thin. I want more shortcut keys. It's great for my immediate project, makeup maps for theater using CSP, but if I want to use it with solidworks and Photoshop, the better Wacom driver is a better fit.
@@tubescream people usually sketch without any smoothening, it had 0 lag, then when you want a clean lineart, you do it with smoothening. So what I'm saying is, you need to expect lag and it happens in both wacom and huion. It's not a huion only thing.
I have been waiting for a pen display without lag for years, and it looks like i will wait for more to come. For me the real reason behind the lag on these things is because all companies use cheap monitors that are in the double digit response rate..Give it a monitor with 2,4 or even 5 ms and i bet the lag will be in the past.
Now I'm really debating between something like this and an iPad Air. Do I want power and flexibility but no portability, or do I want portability, but less capable software? Will I ever try animation, or just stick to drawing? Tough decisions...
I was in a similar situation an year ago and bought an ipad pro 10.5 inch last year and i regret that decision...I should have gone for a display drawing tablet.
The movement lag you're talking about around 6:55 could also be a result of Line Smoothing. Usually this is set in the software but, it may also be a function of the driver. Basically, it averages out the curve of the stroke and adjusts it for a smoother transition.
Will you be reviewing the 2019 version of the Huion Pro 20 that comes out soon? I'm looking to get that, as it's the same price as the Wacom Cintiq 16 but has a way bigger display.
Not so fun fact. Xp pen screen scratches easily. So far the best experience I had was with Huion pro line, I've been using a 13pro for almost a year, no scratches so far.
Came here in October 2022... just to compare the casing to the newer and more expensive 2.5K version. This older design, button bar and especially the touch slider looks so much better. Is it just me? #huion #kamvas #kamvas25k
It certainly can be frustrating when the finished product looks nothing like it was on the Huion screen. Luckily for me it doesn't matter too much because I dont rely on color accuracy to that extent
As a linux user, I feel like I really have to go for Wacom tablets because the community drivers get released so soon after the official ones for windows and mac whereas Huion just doesn't get that kind of support. Great to see another company playing this field though! Lots of love for Wacom but I'm not one for monopolies.
The issue you have with the dock not appearing is due to the delay. Use the following terminal command to remove the delay completely: defaults write com.apple.dock autohide -bool true && defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 0 && defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0 && killall Dock
The ability to set per application hotkeys is honestly the only thing I'm left wanting now. Hopefully the more people mention it, the sooner Huion gets to adding it. I went from by banged up old Intuos 3 (It's a trooper and I love it, but it's earned its rest) to the Kamvas Pro 13 last year . I'm honestly looking into getting one of the larger 20+ variations of the Kamvas line as well. The 13 is very nice, but when at home, I'd prefer something larger, but the 16 is not large enough to warrant an upgrade over the 13 in my book.
Thanks for mentioning Xp-Pen's Artist 15.6 Pro at the end of the video. I thought you totally forgot about that tablet. One more thing, the hotkeys for different application is also present on Xp-Pen's software and that's very convenient. As a consumer of both Huion and Xp pen I must say Xp pen has better driver and software.
But I've seen many reviews online that there are many calibration issues and software issues that pops up on the xp pen artist 15.6 so I'm not sure if I should get that or the huion kamvas 16 pro
hah I was wondering same thing .. (brad plzz get a colorimeter pleazz :3 ) huion in its 3 -4 last units .. has some issues with color and or black white contrasts levels..
The biggest problem of Huion and XP-Pen is the drivers which is at least a decade behind Wacom : very few options, no settings per app, etc. I simply don't understand they don't invest resources in the drivers.
the touch is for the slider :3 , zoom in out or brush size as you said about the button , it is feather touch technology . so it is about that touch :)

Kyouhyung Kim lags are because of ur processor. I have an i9 ...no lag

@@brankelly1921 they're like the apple of graphics tablets lol
@@brankelly1921 totally, the cintiq pro 16 costs $1500, that's at least $500 too much when Huion and other brands can do almost the same for $750 (without the touch screen, but then wacom doesn't even offer a tablet without touch screen unless you want to give up express keys and 4k and pay $600 anyway lol in which case you can buy the same from Huion for $400 and get the express keys anyway lmao)

I think the "warm tip" means caution or somesort? Idk but maybe?
@@justov3049 It doesn't really mean anything in particular. "Hot tip" usually refers to a useful piece of advice. From that, we can assume a "warm tip" is a tip that isn't quite as useful but still helps.
When you do the "ruler test" I suggest to keep the smoothing to 0% and the size of the brush as small as you can and hardness to 100%. In this way you can show if there are jittering or pixel jumping problems. ;) With 20% smoothing also crap tablet shows decent lines.
I dont like how everyone is drawing with huge, thick lines..
With that settings and choppy lines also my 2009 Portegé does damn straight lines. It's a useless test for a review imho.

Aha, do you really imagine this guy wants to do honest review ?
Buying one of these for my daughter and as I know nothing about them this was a big help coming from a credible source. Thanks
Damn they're closing the gap between them and wacom.
yup yup
@Gurnski Deti Wrong opinion. Compare price for Huion 22 with Wacom 22 - its similar price! Wacom Cintiq 22 -- $999 And Huion Kamvas Pro 22 - $899 You may find it in Amazon. $100 - its nothing If Huion Kamvas Pro has to price of about $650 - it be nice more for customers, but we haven't any alternative price for these devices. And don't forget about support services - when your device starts lagging and actual drivers update.
@@sdfaasf7574 Just checked, the Wacom Cintiq 22 is $1200.

@@KanadeChizuru huion is garbage. I wish I bought the cintiq. Damn
@Gurnski Deti I like to make excuses so I can hide my laziness and lack of practice 😛
you are wise, you made the right choice, huion is just a bunch of scammers
*EDIT: i added a review in the reply*
I just ordered this same tablet, getting it in 4 days 🥺💕 I'm more of a hobby artist so I'm not making money from my art, but I decided to invest in this anyway because I'm hoping this will last me some years
It's been 3 weeks, I REALLY like this tablet!
Yes, this means you can't watch Kitchen Nightmares on your pc while you draw on your tablet, and if you decide to do it then it comes with a price lol.-
*(Note: I was dumb when I typed that, my display size on windows was set to 150% and it made the monitor look kinda cheap. I set it back to the normal 100% and everything became crisp and clear again 👌)*
I'm not sure what the very bottom button does but I use the one above it to Undo, and the one above that to Save my file.
If I missed anything let me know lol
you are using smoothing when testing line and 23% is alot.
Here we go...just in time for my birthday.
Yup
I'd love to see how this will directly compared side-by-side with Wacom Cintiq non-Pro 16 and XP-PEN Artist 15.6 Pro, obviously their technology is gonna be different; but XP-PEN and Huion have the advantages of laminated screens.
That said, if I ever aim for a screen tablet, this seems like a solid choice; even though the Huion non-Pro Kamvas 16 is also catching my eye. Hm..
Yes plz i wanna know if the laminated screen is worth giving up wacoms pens.
He said its better than the nonpro cintiq 16. It's got better color accuracy and a laminated screen (no parallax), where as the non pro 16 fails in both regards.
@@ezekd2575 But in Wacom tablets paralax is almost not a problem
Ezek D what about the pens tips that move which he mentioned in the video
hiya i got myself the huion kamvas 16 and after reading through a lot of xp pen artist 15.6 pro reviews, theyre actually p similar. Personally i think i regret not getting the xp pen instead because the design looks slightly nicer ( hehe red), more hotkeys, and you dont need to plug the tablet to a power outlet( it can run just from your computer battery)
Seems to me the wheel on the XP Pen would be more precise and enjoyable to use than the vertical swipe bar on the Huion.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but he said it had tilt and rotation in the pen, there's just tilt though. Just pointing out
oh damn, I just jumped when he said there was rotation =( other companies really have to implement barrel rotation to their pens
I actually have this tablet and it does have rotation. You just need to turn that on in the brush settings. It doesnt work as smoothly though.
You have a typo in your description it says pro 12 rather than pro 16.
Otherwise amazing review as always
6:34 i think there is lag because you have smoothing.
Yap look likes he has smoothing at 10/20%
If lag is the concern there also are other drivers to minimize lag at the cost of some precision, at least for their lower end tablets.

I used to have drivers and different software compatibility issues with Wacom. I was surprised how Huion had none of those and even the default calibration felt just right. Also taking their prices and overall quality into account I think it's a steal.

your reviews are so helpful with this, as someone who is trying to find a tablet that isn't out of my price range
Thank you so much for this review! Was leaning towards buying this product and now I am sold. Just need to decide between the pro 16 and pro 13...
Enable touch is for the slider, if u uncheck it the touch slider will stop working (u won't be able to zoom in and out.........)
I really love the idea of that mechanical wheel on the XP-Pen. That's way cooler and more precise than a touch bar.

Chaotic Moira yes, you can! That’s why i like it. Maybe if you’re only using one program it might be fine, but if you switch between illustrator and photoshop like I do, it would be way too annoying to have to re-input the program key settings every time on the huion. Ugh, no stand. I hope this doesn't become a norm for the "Alternatives" as well. Great review Brad!!
If you order it direct from Huion the stand is a $30 upgrade, along with what type of plug you need (US, EU, Japan etc). I agree it would be better for the stand just to be packed in as standard.
They also charge for gloves now -_-
Just upgraded to this from the gt-191 and I have to say it is an improvement, particularly with colors and the gamut. It's easier to calibrate and the size is more fitting for the kind of workflow I utilize, and the size of the 191 did seem cumbersome at times. I'm definitely liking this better even if it's slightly smaller. It feels right to me.
how did u calibrate it? the offset is not going anywhere especially when i tilt or go to the screen edges (right screen edge is the worst)

In Teoh Yi Chie's preview of this tablet he got a stand in the package, I'm surprised you didn't get one. Must be different bundles or something?
Yes, you need to buy the stand separately, if you buy a bundle from Amazon with a stand, I think it's about 425 dollars, if you buy it from huion around 430 plus shipping or if you just want the stand alone it's like 50 dollars
Thanks to your video, I just bought it and it works super well.
Hey do a comparison with the xp pen artist 15.6 pro please.
Yes!!
Please!
Pretty please?
I wish he would but I gotta buy one time sensitive:p
Hmmm! They’re really catching up! Must be a brutal uphill battle for them but they’re keeping up the good fight
Is this better than the cintiq 16? I had planned on buying the Wacom cintiq 16 but this is tempting, I’ve never used this brand before so I’m a bit sceptical.
Omg yes! Brad, please make the comparison
He says its better because of the laminated screen and hot keys which the cintiq 16 lacks, but not better then the pro.
@@michellesmallwood9960 how it is not better, make no sense. i would say go with huion kavas 16 pro
@@Userdoesnotexit because the cintiq pro has a laminated screen AND you get to use cintiq pens which are vastly better
Far more expensive of course, not worth it IMO, but undeniably better
I just ordered one. So excited 😀
Do you can make light strokes on this one? I think that's a weak point vs. Xp 15.6 pro.
Also, tilt the pen change the cursor position. (even with any tilt features disable)
might be a bit late but to answer some things: "toggle touch" turns the touch strip on and off (I have it disabled because I hit it with my palm by accident)
the touch strip should be customizable. try clicking on the top or bottom of the touch strip and see if it gives you options (could be that its not available in this model but I have the Kamvas gt-156HD v2 and it is fully customizable but has no function key.)
You were using line smoothing for the line test, thats why in falls behind
no.
@@benhardwiesner6963 yes.
Ella M.
Benhard Wiesner you have the huion 16 pro? If so he mentioned that the pen tip moves a bit whenever he puts it on screen? Is that a big deal
The pen is laggy when drawing because youve increased the smoothing % at the top. It artificially corrects your lines to give it a more smooth feel.
Would you get wavy lines without the smoothing? Do you have to choose between lag and straight lines?
@@tubescream people usually sketch without any smoothening, it had 0 lag, then when you want a clean lineart, you do it with smoothening. So what I'm saying is, you need to expect lag and it happens in both wacom and huion. It's not a huion only thing.
I have been waiting for a pen display without lag for years, and it looks like i will wait for more to come. For me the real reason behind the lag on these things is because all companies use cheap monitors that are in the double digit response rate..Give it a monitor with 2,4 or even 5 ms and i bet the lag will be in the past.
Developments in related fields should trickle over. From gaming monitors to cellphones.
Great review as usual Brad. Very helpful. Will you be able to review the new Artisul D22S???
everyone should support huoin so they can catchup and make high quality tablet that are affordable for everyone.
Will you be reviewing the 2019 version of the Huion Pro 20 that comes out soon? I'm looking to get that, as it's the same price as the Wacom Cintiq 16 but has a way bigger display.
Thanks for specifically bringing up left-handed mode!
Not so fun fact. Xp pen screen scratches easily. So far the best experience I had was with Huion pro line, I've been using a 13pro for almost a year, no scratches so far.
what about the horrible offset to the left ???
Came here in October 2022... just to compare the casing to the newer and more expensive 2.5K version. This older design, button bar and especially the touch slider looks so much better. Is it just me? #huion #kamvas #kamvas25k
Huion's main weakness is colour accuracy. Incredibly frustrating to see your finished work to shit on a different screen.
It certainly can be frustrating when the finished product looks nothing like it was on the Huion screen. Luckily for me it doesn't matter too much because I dont rely on color accuracy to that extent
I used to get this problem until i got my huion calibrated, it costs like 15 bucks, I have no problems with it now
@@SuperShiki666 have the same thing with old cintiq 13hd. My colours are wasted af.
@@chappie1420 A harware calibrator is very useful, but at $250-- Ouch!
Kevin Phillips you can’t usually rent one pretty cheaply cause usually people don’t need it for more than one day
As a linux user, I feel like I really have to go for Wacom tablets because the community drivers get released so soon after the official ones for windows and mac whereas Huion just doesn't get that kind of support. Great to see another company playing this field though! Lots of love for Wacom but I'm not one for monopolies.
Awesome review!! I really enjoyed watching the entire video and I am not even interested in buying one :D Keep it up!
The issue you have with the dock not appearing is due to the delay. Use the following terminal command to remove the delay completely:
defaults write com.apple.dock autohide -bool true && defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-delay -float 0 && defaults write com.apple.dock autohide-time-modifier -float 0 && killall Dock
im affraid to buy it now, what if they release a better one next week D:
Happened to me. Just now.
at this point it is good as it is. you can wait a year and see what they drop
they have the huion kamvas pro 22 (2019) which i think would be great to use, but this one seems also good...ahhhh!
@@Userdoesnotexit they just made a giant tablet that was 20 inches
@@silentaria3241 it look really slick tho...
2:28 bruh. that perfect circle tho
Bruh, smoothing moments.
But I've seen many reviews online that there are many calibration issues and software issues that pops up on the xp pen artist 15.6 so I'm not sure if I should get that or the huion kamvas 16 pro
they are also releasing a non pro version which... kind of similar to this but cheaper can you compare both?
@@rethnik thanks
@@rethnik but with less parallax
@@charlierama7891 KAMVAS 16 doesn't have a laminated screen as the pro one ...so parallax may be the same!
@@keeru.Oh! i thought we were talking about the pro version, sorry don't mind me.
The way you hold the pen is exactly how I write and draw things too
Thanks Brad! Very useful as always.
Would you say that either the XP-Pen 15.6 Pro or this one have an advantage in colour accuracy?
hah I was wondering same thing .. (brad plzz get a colorimeter pleazz :3 ) huion in its 3 -4 last units .. has some issues with color and or black white contrasts levels..
They both have the same RGB range but this tablet is configured much better right out of the box and is much easier to get great colors on
@@SussLord Uh, that's interesting, it was the other way around in previous tablets, as far as I'm aware. Thanks!
The biggest problem of Huion and XP-Pen is the drivers which is at least a decade behind Wacom : very few options, no settings per app, etc. I simply don't understand they don't invest resources in the drivers.
Love your work, and a huge fan of Huion. Do you plan on reviewing their 2019 Kamvas Pro 20 and 22?
Yep, just got a shipping notification for the 22 :)
@@thebradcolbow For the new 2019 updated version?
the touch is for the slider :3 , zoom in out or brush size as you said about the button , it is feather touch technology . so it is about that touch :)
