Hey guys! Lucas here :) In today's video I'm gonna tell you about the Huion Kamvas 13, a veeeeery affordable tablet that you might consider as either your first display tablet or your upgrade from your old one.
Huion has blown me away with the quality of their tablets before, so I was happy to review this one when they sent it.
I'm gonna tell you about the pros and cons of this tablet and if I recommend it. Enjoy

Huion and XP-Pen are on average good enough to justify spending much less money compared to a Wacom. You get a 20% less premium feeling product for sometimes up to 100% reduction in cost. That's totally worth it IMO.
True... I don't know how Wacom still makes their products so expensive!
@@LucasPeinador They price them for studios, much like photoshop they don't aim it at consumers because they know studios can and will pay for 'the industry standard'.
Honestly I got a Huion Kamvas 22 Plus and it's been great. Meanwhile the last wacom I had - the power button failed and customer service refused to reply even once.
You meant 50% reduction in cost? 100% means literally free.
@@Kiadaw77 No, I meant 100%. I own a Wacom Cintiq 24 Pro, which costs 2000$. I could have bought a Huion Kamvas 24 Pro for 1000$. That's literally another free graphic tablet, which is fairly comparable in terms of quality. But yes, you can also say that it's 50% of the full Wacom price. Depends on how you want to look at it.
@@STFUppercut69that is not how math works
I bought it and used it for 1-2 years, still using as of typing this.
It works great as a drawing tablet, and i have used it rather roughly at times for the past 2 years, such as using full pressure to colour a character because i am too lazy to press 1 button to change the brush to the opaque type. I also threw the laptop bag which the tablet is in around for over a year now. Still working perfectly as of now with no visible scratches.
Fun fact: it works amazing as a cheap second monitor that u can bring around anywhere too as an added bonus, so for eg: in classes where u want a second screen, u can use this as well, not the main purpose, but it works! XD
Do you happen to know if this will work with Ibis paint? Thanks:)
@@daph2e only android :))
oooo thank you so much! im going to get the kamvas 13 and i kinda desperately need a second monitor as well so im really glad to find this comment!!!
@@blitz-o-byte I'm glad it helped!! ^^
@@daph2e I personally don't use Ibis paint, so I do not know, sorry... Also didn't know this comment had a reply until now!! I missed it my bad!! :(
But I used it for the following before and it works:
1. Clip Studio Paint (even the 2.0 update as of typing this)
2. Photoshop (and pretty much every adobe cloud's software)
3. Maya (if anyone is considering doing 3D)
4. Unity (if anyone is considering game making)
5. Pixel art sites (I did some on chrome specifically when bored)
6. If you play on websites like GarticPhone, it also works
I don't know if Ibis is on PC, but if it's on PC, it most likely works, because it worked for every program so far!
I bought a Kamvas 16 for Christmas and love it so far. I like the bigger size over a 13 yet it's still compact enough to carry it in a backpack.
Thanks for sharing! I will probabbly be reviewing the kamvas 15 soon, I hope it is as good as this one
I bought it some time ago and I prefer the feel of this tablet over my Wacom Intuos Pro L (regular tablet without a screen). I do agree it's a bit small but going bigger won't give you more resolution on the screen, so the screen clutter would be the same (albeit a tad more readable).
Thanks for sharing Reg, it is a very nice tablet indeed
Thanks for this review Lucas, always good to have an honest one!
Jacobo, bro, you always so kind!
Damn, what a beautiful review. I recently ordered mine and while i wait i wanted to watch some stuff about it and this made me know i made a good decision ordering
happy to hear that and congrats on a new tablet 👍
Just purchased it today.. really great built pen display from huion... loved it even got it cheaper with stand for like 250$
Thanks for sharing, that is greta. Congrats
Neat i actually just placed my order for this tablet
wow! i wish i had 1 of these! great video! & great product Huion!
Thank you for the comment Jose, well, I'm sure you can get one, for sure second hand they are really affordable
Lighter but fatter pen is a pro for me. Heavier pens might feel premium and studier, but try drawing/painting 6-8hrs a day, everyday and you start to feel the weight of it. But then again I have tiny hands even by asian standards so lol.
You’re review is really helpful thanks!
Super happy to hear that Maple, thank you for comenting !
really cool video, the only point i would disagree with you is about the stand, not that you should not get one but that you should not get the one from huion, the main "issue" with the huion stands is that what support the bottom of the tablet is no wide enough and the tablet can slip out of it pretty easily, + you can get some 10€ laptop stands if it can hold a laptop in a secure way it can easily be used for a tablet that thin :D
Yes, definitely. ;)
Thinking about getting a display tablet for quiet some time. Thanks for this.
awesome, happy to help
You can just move Photoshop and all it windows to an notebook screen and put you drawing (canvas) on tablet screen - and there will be no problems with interface scaling :)
Really? That is interesting
how do you adjust the screen on macbook to prevent it from looking too big?
Oh, I forgot, but look for "UI rescaling in mac os" and you should find it
I wonder if I should go for this tablet or get the updated version from this year with better resolution and colors, any thoughts somebody? :d
I didn't know they were going to improve the resolution and colors, if it is much more expensive, I wouldn't bother much. 1920 * 1080 in this size is more than enough
I have the Kamvas 16 and I'm very satisfied with it, specially for the price
But let's be honest I bought this one because it came with a doughnut pen holder
Thanks for sharing!
Hii, how long did you use the tablet until it gets warm? Just curious :D
Oh, not very long, maybe a couple of hours
Thanks for video review
Of course! thank you very much for watching Khasan!
hiya! i love ur video! i just wanted to ask, since the tablet is like a second monitor (technically) is it possible to have one program on the tablet displayed and the rest on my main monitor? for example if i have a drawing program on the tablet and then chrome or spotify or anything else on the main monitor?
yes yes, of course 👍 I do that all the time ✨ it is the whole point of having 2 monitors 😀
Currently considering the kamvas 16 2021
It is probably one of the best buys right now
I was really thinking hard if I should get the 13 or 16... almost got the 13 but a lot of people were saying that one of the sides/corners heat up and I guess that was just a deal breaker for me 😭 also the screen size :(
But no worries though, I am very VERYYY MUCH HAPPY with my 16 :)
Awesome, thank you for sharing
The side where the power connectors are heats up quite a bit, but if you use the glove it's not that noticeable
I’m left handed. Is it possible to flip the display so the buttons are on the right side without the screen being upside down?
I think so, but not a 100 %
Is it compatible with a Lenovo m10
Can this be used without a computer and is it android? Im looking for a drawing tablet for my daughter that doesnt have google play or other android capabilities.
Sorry, this is a drawing tablet that needs the computer 👍
I LOVE IT.
Thank you
Pro #5 - I HAVE run into the driver issue on the Huion Kamvas 13 on my MAC OS. It has gotten to the point where I must uninstall and install the drivers EVERY TIME I use the tablet. As you mentioned SUPER annoying. Reached out to Huion support (no help what-so-ever).
Thank you for sharing
Hello Lucas, so i bought your Brushes but how do i get them?
Hey Cowall, thank you so much, and very sorry I got to see this so late. Please, if you have any trouble, send me a mail to info@lucaspeinador.com and I'll help you out
I always wanted to ask. Is there a big difference between drawing on a iPad vs drawing tablet display.
There is pros and cons to both… I love how portable the iPad, but I am more comfortable with the tablet, because it is more powerful… but regarding the drawing… it is pretty similar… what makes the difference is also the software
How good is the type C connection? I heard there were some issues in the past. That one connection honestly is a deal breaker for me.
Well, for me it looked really sturdy, but mind that I didn't test the tablet for very long. So a long time user probably would have better info
@@LucasPeinador Thank you!
I'll chime in, I have this tablet and uses exclusively type C. not huion type c - cause it short , I use aukey [you need the one with video output] / needed to sand down one side to fit but since june last year to now i have not have an issue with using type C connected to my laptop.
Hello Lucaz, where I can buy this with your reccomendation???
Hey Janath, thank you for asking! means a lot that you want to support the channel :) Yes, here is an affiliated link:
store.huion.com/products/kamvas-13?af_code=OYYXV6
i just bought mine, any tips how to take good care of it? can i put cloth to cover it when not using it?
that sounds good, try not to spill anything over it and to keep it safe and clean
@@LucasPeinador thank you!
Another cons is for the lefties need to up side down the pc display setting to work i hope they will update those features
Adding something to sense the position of the tablet to change the rotation of the screen would just had a point of failure
@@neniri7853 are you an IT expert?
Huion Kamvas 13 or Xp pen artist 12 2nd gen, which should I buy?
I trust more Huion 😉
@@LucasPeinador Thanks for answering.
does someone know if ibis paint or adobe sketchbook work on this tablet?
This is a computer tablet, so whatever works on your computer it will work here as well.
Just wondering if anyone knows if this works with Ibis paint?? Thanks:)
Sorry, I don’t know, I didn’t try it.
idk if i should get the xppen artist 13 ,12 or huion ;/
The one you like the most
I use the Huion Kamvas Pro 12, but quick question: Who uses Photoshop AND ClipStudio?
I use both. Why? Photoshop for its incredible filters, face-aware liquify, and a host of other features. Also, I actually prefer digital painting on Photoshop. For line work: sketching and digital inking (vector layers!), I will only use Clip Studio. It's also great for comic style coloring like cut and grad. I'll export the CSP file as a Photoshop file and paint from there. Last thing, Clip Studio just added liquify which is fine for correcting sketches, but it's not sophisticated like Photoshop. I'm glad they added it.
@@asimian8500 Isn’t that expensive? That’s why I asked
@@woodhidh CSP is very reasonably priced on desktop ($50 one time purchase I believe) and Photoshop through the photography plan is $10 a month. But that also allows you to use Adobe Portfolio for your Portfolio site. If you do that it's a good deal. It really all depends on if you'd use those advanced features and if you need a portfolio site. But for most artists CSP would have everything they would need (and in some ways more than Photoshop would give you).
I personally use Photoshop for most of my work, CSP I have it around when I need to test something, or if I want to do a 2d animation :)
I have a iPad 12.9 what would be a good upgrade?
Hey BlindGuy, if you want to start using a computer for your digital art, my recommendation is the Huion Kamvas 15, or the Wacom One
@@LucasPeinador thank you very much
How did you make the UI smaller?
what do you mean?
4 years since i bought my huion(other version)..i must say it still feels like as if its brandnew, so if u hesitate just go for it dont hesitate with such price u can't find anything better than this
+ the pen are all perfect till this day i dont even change the pen head not even once yet and i draw 3 days a week
yeah it is a pretty cool brand 👍
I’m literally just getting into digital drawing, I can draw with pencil and am looking forward to going digital, do you think the size is a problem? I won’t be taking it to many places and don’t even know if I will go full on with it, not professionally at least. But I’m unsure if i should just wing it and go for a higher size
If you’re you’re just getting into digital painting then maybe try with this size 1st coma it is not like it is way too small it is just the release a bit smaller than I would prefer personally
If you're used to drawing in notebooks, this is actually better than going big immediately.
using it as main tablet id go with 16
i myself have this 13. and a 22 inch kamvas.. 13 is small. , reason i bought it was to take with me when going sailing... as it can connect to android phone desktop mode. (using infinity painter) and it can run of a powerbank (minimal 15000 mah).
at home i like drawinng on bigger screen. just works out better.
if you can afford go for 16 minimal
Can you use this with an android?
yes, of course
if i extend the monitor, will it work the same?
I don't really what you mean with the "extend the monitor"
yes
@@LucasPeinador he means normal computerscreen and this one side by side , but in extended mode (not duplicate screen) does mean you need mouse or trackpad on the normal screen output
Can it connect to an Android tablet
what do you mean?
Can i connect my smartphone..??
kamvas 13 yes, kamvas 13 pro no
then use powerbank to power it all (15000 mah minimum)
you wont get tilt. and if you use krita for android this huion doesnt have penressure inn there , but most other apps it does.
use infinity paiter or medibang instead for penpressure
guys I have found Huion gt-221 pro 22" for 265$ do you think its a great deal?
That sounds like a pretty good deal ;)
have the same one. works great... make sure to update irmware so you get tilt function
Does it have a metal body or nah?
Hey, sorry don’t remember
Ohh thanks
24 is nice too
Gotta check that one! I think that it would mayybe replacemy cintiq
U guys draw on a table?
I honestly don't care about the size :') I am coming from the 40 euro wacom that's as small as one can get and doesn't have a screen, so this is already way bigger lol
haha 👍 Well then I hope you will enjoy this one
Before I order this tablet, I think it's important to know if this vid was sponsored by Huion?
I try to be as trustful and hones as possible... I want people to trust me... but I would advise you to check a few different reviews just to get as many opinions as possible
@@LucasPeinador Thank you, I appreciate your response 🙏
Actually, i also use it for playing osu
(Huion kamvas 13 pro)
hahaha that should be an overkill for osu, but very good experience
@@LucasPeinador hah not a big deal, im playing it like i would with normal osu tablet, i dont use screen, and my pen is levitating over the screen, and im clicking x on keyboard to click, so there will not be any scratches on tablet
Dude that B roll looks so uncomfortable xD
good review tho :)
hahahahah it was!! I had to put it on my coffee table because the camera didn't fit on my desk XD
usb-c support is great but neither my motherboard nor my front panel have one 😭
sorry to hear that
the main problem of this tablet is the color difference between it and your main screen, even changing the parameters. You end up having a great drawing on the tablet, and a awful one on your main screen. I end up using it as a normal tablet. I would suggest you to maybe try the 4k huion ones but im not even sure the colors will be better. Maybe just buy a normal tablet or an ipad pro directly . Especially when the constrat and colors of the tablet doesnt show all the details of the main screen.
Ggood tablet i wanna buy one
Yes it is pretty good
Wacom is the Apple of pen tablets 😭
Nah Wacom is the king still
Honestly, I currently use a 9.5 inch screen and it still feels large 😂
haha that's cool

Since When is Huion a new and unpopular brand? 🤨
The majority of people know Wacom and it is used in the industry - that's why ;)
First
Yoyyoyo Tilen!
Its the worst tablet Ive ever gotten, it doesn't even connect to my display screen and I have gone through all of their tutorials. Considering there is so many videos trying to help people fix it - they should talk about this problem in their tutorial.
Really? I am very sorry to hear that. I hope you can fix the problem.
