I've been contemplating painting my wheels for a while and the idea of it being permanent always scared me. I never would've thought to do it with Plasti Dip. Best Project I've ever done. Thank you for putting this idea in my head
You need WAY more then three coats, three is enough to cover it all but not if you want it to peel off easy you’ll need more like 6-10 and 1-3 coats of gloss (depending how glossy)
Did this years ago to my winter/stock rims for my Mercedes and they still look pretty good tbh. Even tho they been through hell and back over here in NY. However I took the rims off. Didn’t have to mask anything. Looks good, but I agree with what some of these guys are saying, might need a few extra coats for it to last longer without peeling. Still great vid!

Also I’m very ocd with how I do things so maybe that might play a part who knows. But to fully answer your question it’s been about 4-5 years with them on during the winter/cold seasons. During the summer I changed the rims.

It peels because you have to use alcohol to clean them after washing. Then also the clear is important to keep it from peeling. To remove use solvent and alot of it in a spray bottle. Soak the rim sit and when it wrinkles wipe off quickly using more solvent as you use paper towels.
as someone who did 5layer before on my Hondacitygn2 original rim tyre, after 3months, as you drive a lot, and due to heat, wind and stone chips, it will come off horribly like some area easily remove but some sticks like glue. in the end i just change to sport rim tyres. if you still want to do it, i highly recommend taking off the rims and spray it on the floor to let gravity do its job. good luck 🍀

You made that look super easy, but i suspect you're skilled with graffiti! How does Plastidip stand up to wheel nut wrenches and tyre changes? Does it come off straight away like spray paint does?
Go heavy af on coat 2&3 then it shouldn’t be hard to remove if you don’t spray heavy enough coats it will thin out hard over time, and something that helps a ton to remove dip if stuck “goo gone”

@KG-ig5uy I did exactly as it was shown in the video. It worked just like the video. I was planning to make a video but wanted to try it before making a fool of myself. After I did the first wheel I completely forgot about the video and finished the other 3 before I realized I had forgotten to record the process.
It’s not that hard I did it and I suck. Of course I didn’t do it exactly right and it was hell when I took it off a few years later. But after I finished everyone thought I had bought new rims. If I can pull that off anyone can lol
Thank you! For color I would do 2 coats of whichever base coat you have to use for that color, then 3 coats of the color, and 1-2 coats of gloss if desired
..well you also just plasti dipped over the lug nuts, which will obviously chip/ ruin the dip the first time they are removed. People looking to do this: tape them or order new black ones
@@JayJay-jx3zg I've seen guys going thru brush car washes and it didn't come off (those brushes really don't apply a lot of pressure, I've seen dogs wash themselves on those things 🤣) ... I'd stay away from directly blasting them with a high pressure washer, dial down the pressure if possible then spray them.
@@treeezy1472 it ain't worth it. I did it for a year. 3x in a year. Got tired of all the work I had to do to just spray the object I was plasti-dipping. I decided to just paint it Satin black paint. Been holding up for almost 2 years. No "redo" job now. Paint works better regardless.

I did that though it made my car look great because if you bring it in the professional painter it will cost you like 300+ we have hands and brains plus this is the easiest thing to do.

I used rust oleum tire spray paint and just sprayed it on my rims lol, didnt even cover the tires because i just don't care about looks as much as other people, i'm very happy with how it turned out regardless of the black spots on the tires haha so i relate to this because i just don't care.

You don't even need to mask your tires or breaks if you take off the wheel and insert large cards between the rim and tire ( paint samples cards from Lowes or home Depot are free ) just make a ring of cards around the tire and when your done you pull em out and bolt your tire back on.. also every car after 1995 has a tire jack and spare . 😂 Also you didn't mask your car off your gonna get over spray all over the place on your nice paint job 🎉😢 and btw plastic dip is trash compared to a oil based Rust-Oleum that's built with high enamel and heat protection.. it's about the same price and doesn't peal off or flake in 1 months

You probably sprayed way too light. I’ve never had an issue with any dips years later by spraying correctly the first time

The amount of time it takes to mask the caliper and rotor you’d be better off just taking the wheel of its 5 lugs not to much work
This is for everyone who doesn’t have access to a jack stand. It takes 5 seconds to ask the brakes.

Also you can spray plasti dip on areas where you want to remove it to loosen it up. Just spray some on the stick area and whip it all off

Plasti-dip only last about a year or less. The sun fades it quick. Looks great for months then the sun takes a toll.

6-8 coats is what you want on wheels not including glossifier coats.

THIRD COAT IS KEY. FK IT DO 4-5. BIGGEST MISTAKE IS TOO THIN = CANNOT REMOVE!!!
Also take some time like ya boi here let that shit dry better more light coats than drips and spots that dont cure properly
