I'd argue if they can't take off a wheel they shouldn't paint. It's very dangerous to get paint on rotors, calipers, slide pins, wheel hub bearings ect... Just jacking up the car from Δ points which is on frame after lower control arms and wheel wheels near center of vehicle. Put jack stands under axles taking care not to hit brake lines with jacks. Awesome video man. Had a few ??'s 1) Can this be done with a Chrome finish? I have Copper-looking alloys right now. Or would you alternatively recommend something like stainless steel finish for a steel, shiny look. 2) Can you leave the tires on the car while you're painting (physical limitations). I was thinking I could either mask off the inside of the tire - or if the inside gets painted, who cares, it's still shiny? :) As long as this doesn't damage anything in the inside of the wheels. Thanks again!
There is no real way to get a chrome finish except actual chroming. If you want to paint your rims and have a metal-looking finish, you could try Rust-Oleum Bright Coat Metallic Finish spray paint in Chrome. Prep well and apply light coats, but please don't use a clear coat or you may completely ruin the finish.
Excellent job, just got a question for you. Just before the 10 minute mark you gave a close up of the finished rim. Appears to be either air bubbles, dirt speckles or in perfections in the rim in the paint. Hoping it's the later, this can be removed with proper sanding, correct?

Might be picking up some incubus origin 22” tomorrow for my silverado for a deal. Seller says they are structurally sound but have blemished chrome. They are only a couple hundred bucks so if they wont clean up to my liking ill be hitting them with some paint if all goes well so thanks for the vid!

I don't recommend painting over chrome. To do so properly, you'd really need to sand down the finish with multiple grits of sandpaper, and be aware that sanding chrome can be a bit dangerous, definitely need to wear a mask and long sleeves. If you just have a bit of rust coming through the chroming, try some phosphoric acid to clean them. It won't be perfect but will look a lot better....

You can leave the tires on the car when painting, just mask off well so you don't get overspray on your car. Overspray goes farther than you think...
Love this video bro , this weekend I’ll be doing this if the weathers nice
Excellent job, just got a question for you. Just before the 10 minute mark you gave a close up of the finished rim. Appears to be either air bubbles, dirt speckles or in perfections in the rim in the paint. Hoping it's the later, this can be removed with proper sanding, correct?
I did exactly what this guy did, my rims are drippy and the paint is easily peeling off. Do not recommend.
@@beverleylagunas3285need to prime alloys with an etch primer then spray light coats. I doubt these will last that long
This is dope bro. Getting my Mazda rims painted black this weekend August 20, 2022
How long did you wait for in between coats?
I came here not knowing what car you drive. I drive an Audi A5 Quattro and want to keep the original rims, but paint them a different color. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Happy to help! And that’s awesome to hear haha
Have you scratched them or dinged them since? If so, did the paint come off and the rest start to chip little by little?
Might be picking up some incubus origin 22” tomorrow for my silverado for a deal. Seller says they are structurally sound but have blemished chrome. They are only a couple hundred bucks so if they wont clean up to my liking ill be hitting them with some paint if all goes well so thanks for the vid!
Turned out amazing man! Looks so good!
Question for ya.. 2 cans of paint and 2 cans of clear coat will be good for all 4 wheels? Just wanted to clarify. Looking to do this on my Lexus rims👍😊
Fauna the Deer thanks! 2 cans of each worked for me. Don’t cheap out on product and put the time into prep work👌🏼should be fine!
@@KevG alright thanks buddy! Appreciate it. 👍
@@KevG Funny you say don't cheap out... I was thinking you cheaped out by using crappy paint...
@@davidnoahgoldstein it’s lasted 2 years!
@@KevG Thanks for the update that is good to know! I reread my comment and feel that it was a bit harsh... as your did come out good! I plan to do mine in the next few weeks and will do a bit of research to find the best product available (if it is $25 like yours that would great... if it is $150 that is fine too... as it is a lot cheaper than having it professionally done)!
5:05 it say's you don't wanna get paint on your wheels 😅. But yeah I sprayed my alloys the other week using the card trick (without holes in).... it really saves time & mess.
I'm going to be doing the same thing soon
Thanks for the lesson ! Now I will paint my Vette wheels gun metal gray...
this video was helpful. leaving a comment..
Thanks. 👍🏽👍🏽
Thank you! Glad I could help
Cool! Thanks! Freaking hilarious with the paint sample cards and a perfect idea lmfaaaao. Cheers from Tampa Bay
Thanks a lot!😅😅
Nice job man I am going to do this to my fusion now.
Good luck!
Thinking of doing the same David to my Fusion. How'd it turn out? Holding up?
@@fish10381 I sanded and used black matte spray cans with primer in it 3 coats and 3 more of 2x clear and they came out better than what I anticipated I just saved myself a load of cash on black rims and I also blacked out the head lights, tail lights, side mirrors, gas cap, black wing and black grill now I am just waiting for my side skirts and now the fusion is looking dark blue and sexy sleek with black detail around the whole car.👍 thx for asking pal.
@@davidtravolta5293 did you take the wheels off to spray paint?
@@nikamira1 No I put cue cards standing upright close together around the whole edge of the rim. 3 coats of black with primer in 1 and 3 of clear coat of course after some light sanding and it came out professional thanks for asking and you can do it to.
Starting a spray paint business after this thanks bro 😎 💰
How long did you wait before you sprayed the clear coat from the paint? I’ve had orangepeel issues before when spraying clear coat too soon
spray clear within an hour or after 24 hrs stops orange peel
FYI. Gumout Carb and Choke Cleaner works really well to clean the wheels from brake dust and oil, grease etc.
Thank you 🙏🏾 btw you only got 4 toes?
I have all my fingers and toes 😂
Thanks for this!!!!! I'm doing this, this weekend!!!!! You the man 💪
thanks for the info bro, been looking for a good video, i am about to take my stock rims off my Ralliart & paint them gloss black also, i hope it turns out as good as yours did!.. @lowe's here i come LOL
Cool try washing the wheel with soap and your green pad . Works good -scuff wash.
My A4 wagon in Saginaw says thank you 😈
Awesome I love the shine and look. Can't wait to do my wheels on my truck, Thanks
Awesome job bro, have you ever tried that on already chrome rims?? Project coming up and wondering if I can apply this to that
I don't recommend painting over chrome.
Definitely gonna try this! Thanks for the tips
Just save more money, than the time I switch to Geico.😂😂
Good information they look very good professional look thank you for the video prep is a big part for how good the results turn out
wish I could bring my car to you. subscriber from Toronto
Very nice compliment!😁I appreciate it
I’m in london Ontario if you want I can do your wheels! Just did my m5 wheels
Got a genesis coupe, gonna get coils bud can’t afford wheels atm too but I want to sand down the curb rash from the previous owner and paint my rims just for rnnn till I can get some wheels in a few months :) thank you !!
Do you spray the inside of the rim? Curious since it wasn’t on the video.
im wondering the same thing, idk if i have to or not
@@PS-us5fo I ended up doing the whole rim and it turned out nice.
he talks about prep work. spray a couple of coats of automotive primer , 3 coats of black gloss , and 2 of 3 of clear. my wheels stay good for 4 years and still get compliments. I have painted a few sets by now
Hey mate can I apply this paint to my cbr's alloy wheel? it's not a metal alloy though, also does this peels off by kerosene ?
This guy is really into himself a legend in his own mind
Nah just like goofing around😂can’t take life too seriously
Another option for the paint deflector is a $1 pack of playing cards.
I feel like they are to small, it won’t block out alll the paint
@@yashkin6192 just did this method and it works!!
index cards work
You saved me a trip to lowes 💀
Large top trump cards
I just seen the video very helpful to be honest thank you it was too late for me to know about the cards is there away to get spray off the tires
