  • Band of The Welsh Guards lead past and present members of the Welsh Guards to and from the Guards Memorial on their Regimental Black Sunday, held on Sunday 12th November 2023.
Last year only got the return part as I did not know this was happening, managed to get it all this time and using a better camera.

I do like how the return to barracks is alway a fun setlist, I'm sure the brass players especially appreciate the break from heavy marchs

Sounds good with nice selection of Marches - do you know what has happened to Lauren Petriz-watts - I know she was promoted but would she still be involved with bands/music somewhere?

@@clivehughes2179 Hello Clive, not exactly sure where LtCol L. Petritz-Watts has been. They did mention she would return to the Household Division in the not so distant future.

Quite interesting to see at 1:00 that the leading trombone was unhappy with the tempo and wanted the time beater to accelerate a bit. During the Veterans' Parade after the national Remembrance Sunday ceremony which had taken place shortly before the tempo is usually a bit reduced and the time beater probably had not yet adjusted back to normal ;)

@@charlottecunningham2141 You can hear the bass drummer speeding up especially after the second time the trombone player turned around. At least he is trying to. It's a bit difficult to pick up the pace on the march when everyone has settled in already.

Brilliant Video Mr B! These Regimental Memorial Days & Black Sundays, always carry with them a Touch of Sadness but Always a Profound Respect as well. For me Personally, even though I have no connection to The Welsh Guards, I always find it particularly Poignant with this Parade. I think it's because of the horrendous & needless loss of so many Welsh Guards, in the Falkland War. I was old enough to follow & understand what happened & it affected me deeply, not just The Welsh Guards, but all the British losses. I must admit, even though this was a busy Weekend for the Military, I was surprised that there were no Currently Serving Personnel or the Welsh Corps of Drums present.
The Band of the Welsh Guards were lead by the most energetic Drum Major in the Household Division, if not the British Amy. DM Sam Potts (1B WG WO2), is instantly recognisable by his Bouncy & Energetic Style, and he seems to infect the Bands, as many of them seem far more Perky following him. The Welsh Band itself is excellent & them playing Marches Significant to the Welsh, is particularly Enjoyable, Great Music Choices!. The Men of Wales, I'd only heard in it's entirety, played by the Massed Bands. The Welsh Guard's Band played it Brilliantly in this Video & did it in Great Style & Volume. I must admit as each bit of the Well known Marches that make this March ended, I half way expected them to yell "Boyo" as they ended, as The Irish do with their "Oi" March Lol!
I say it all the time when the Veterans of the Regiment March, those Old Boys have still got it God Bless them, & they're always a Pleasure to see.
Than you Mr B! Up to your usual High Standards as always. A Great Job! Well Done!

Don't Forget the State Opening of Parliament Last week too. The Welsh Guards provided the Honour Guard for that, as well as The Band playing in the Massed Bands. A High level of Wear & Tear all round!

@@vickyRoyalHistory Hi Vicky, as a cornet player it takes a while to get your lip back to normal from longer periods of playing, so Sunday would have been a hard shift especially after the Lord Mayor's show the day before. I am dreading playing 4 nights in a row next week!

@@Reggie_91 Hi Reggie! Now that's something I'd never even considered before! I'm sure that would be the case for all the Brass Wind Instruments. Having tried to play a Trumpet once, blowing as hard as I could, till my cheeks were blown out & red, my eyes Crossed & Bulged, my ears popped & straining so hard, I almost peed my Pants, I managed to get a very weak sound like I'd stepped on the Cat right before I was ready to pass out! I have a huge amount of respect for anyone who can get a recognisable Instrument sound out of the things, yet alone Music! I've since found out there was a special way to blow them. Well, I'm not stupid & thought that must've been the case, but I'm not special either, so best I leave it to the experts & those that can play the Instruments & I'll just enjoy the resulting Music. I now have a Mental Image of you with Lips like Mick Jagger's after receiving a Botox injection! Take care & enjoy your Weekend & Next Week.

The trombone may have spotted a slower tempo. That is quite normal when leading marching Veterans for obvious reasons of age and degrees of infirmity.
