Since the 90’s I’ve only used one radio , electronics, etc. I used to subscribe to Crutchfields catalogs and would go over every radio over and over again, all their stats ,prices and all that jazz. It always turned out that Sony had very very very close to the same stats as radios costing to2,3 or even four times as much. I’ve never been disappointed

My next project is hooking up the rear camera.
great video! I have a frontier 06 I bought it last year and I noticed that the radio drain the battery I replaced the radio and still doing it, I think it's one of the speakers I'm gonna work on it today and try to find the problem. by the way I like your videos

hey Ryan, I have a 2008 S, also a 2nd generation with the stock standard stereo. Two questions I wanted to ask you. First, is the amp built into the head unit for the standard stereo, or is it located elsewhere.? Also, do you think there was enough room behind the head unit to stuff a compact amp back there?
My Harness came with a Power Antenna and Amp wire. Can I just leave them hooked up for future reference? of best not to? Will hooking them up cause an issue if not used? I Just don't want to get behind the radio and have to take out the hanres to re solder something, figured I get ahead and just connect them wires for future should I decide to put in a amp? I bought a similar USB extender but it's dual and I plan on replacing one of the in-dash cigarette lighters. Hoping I can get to those easy enough. And not break any plastic tabs since it's not too warm here in Denver right now.

Thanks for another invaluable xterra video! I have a 2005 and I made the mistake of having my new stereo installed at car toys. The normal installer got sick, and one of the front office guys stepped in. I have steering wheel controls but they told me I'd have to come back and get a special connector for this JVC and it would cost another $160. I noticed you don't have steering wheel controls, but is there any way you could do a video on that? Sorry for the long comment.

I did everything the same as you yet I have some terrible whining noise coming from the alternator and from a ground loop when the engine is off. I'm not sure what workarounds there may be but I've tried lots.
Wait, you replaced the radio and now your engine is making noise? The number one step to troubleshooting that is to reverse the last change you made. So put your old radio back in and see if the engine still does it.

Hey ry having an issue with my stereo when I turn the high beams on after installing it . It’s a dual touch xvm286bt stereo .when I attempt to turn my high beams on at night or during the rain my stereo will loose signal I wanted to know if you can assist I have a picture of you need an idea of what I’m dealing with
Never never never used butt connectors always put on your shrink tube and solder the connection then slide your Flink to shrink tube over the solder joint and heat the tube with a lighter to make it weather tight fit

Sorry but I do not. My Xterra is a manual so there is no transmission cooler.

The steering wheel controls require additional wiring and an additional box to connect the two. Just swapping the radio kills the SW controls

PLug it into the back of the radio. There should be a spot for it.

Got a lot of rain behind your radio? Been using butt connectors on radios for 22 years now and not a single issue.
Sorry i just hate crimp on. And wire nuts. But. Ya can.t beat soldering and shrink tube and I guess that,s from doing Boat repairs.
