What to do if you’re not getting enough sleep: 1. Take a nap 2. Keep your room cool (between 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit) and leave your window open if possible 3. Try to keep the humidity in your room at 50% 4. Turn off all electronics in your room when you’re sleeping 5. Don’t overeat or undereat in the evening, and make sure to consume enough protein 6. Don’t eat too late in the evening 7. As it gets dark, start dimming the lights and avoiding blue light Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍
I've got a ventilator aimed at my head while I wear plugs. The fan drowns out any noise outside of my room and my earplugs dim the noise of the fan. Even in a crowded city this keeps nuisances from waking me up.
I'm 75 years old and I worked for 52 years. I went on 3 to 5 hours sleep 6 days a week for the last 29 years. I woke up at 2:15 am every day. I'm still alive and well now sleeping 7 hrs a night.
Ask any over the road truck driver. Just because we are mandated to take a 10 hour break doesn't mean we get solid sleep. Parking in a noisy area, parking so your bed is at an odd angle, too hot to sleep, too cold to sleep, parking in a bad area and sleeping with gun in hand are just a few examples.
True story Doc, I worked the graveyard shift for 15 years. Lived on 5-6 hour sleep from Mon-Fri and would stay awake all day Friday to take care of my kids and reset my circadian system to be awake in the day on weekends. A Sunday evening nap before work and it was back to the weekly grind. During a check up a few years later I told my story to a cardiologist, he looked at me and said “You should be dead!” He had apparently tried that shift for two years and wanted to quit being a physician. Thanks for everything you do to keep us informed Doc!
I'm 50 years old and I've always worked night shift. I know we're not all the same. I function well with 6 hrs but I know people that got to have 12 to function. I'm not spending all my time in bed.
I'm exactly the same, been doing permanent nights for over 20 years. 5 - 6 hrs sleep. No health problems here but everyone's different. I'm also not overweight so probably that plays a part as well.
I would say add a couple of hours to your sleep, 💤💤💤 evening being the best time. You may think you are fine now, but over the years you might not be. Insufficient sleep also ages a person. Prematurely.
That's ok, a lot of people sleep 5 hours including myself. If it's actual 5 hours of sleep that is and not time in bed. I use a smartwatch to track my sleeping and it helps. The best way to understand how a good sleep works you need to first understand REM sleep cycles. This will change everything you know about sleeping.
Me too, I used to drag myself out of bed with 7-8 hours but now I can do 5-6 and wake up feeling great. Still occasionally sleep in another hour but it seems to be much more regulated, if I need the extra sleep I naturally get it.
My grandfather is 90 and I know for a fact that people around that age don't sleep very much. 9hrs or more would be more suited for kids that are still growing.

I’m down 38 pounds in the last nine weeks after changing my lifestyle. Ever since then my sleep has been amazing! I usually sleep between 7 to 8 hours a night but I wake up fully refreshed and ready to go. Compared to when I was eating unhealthy, I’d wake up 10 times or more and felt exhausted even after I “slept” 10 hours.
I’m 28 and the past couple of years I’ve been sleeping only 5 hours sometimes 6. I’m glad I saw this video. It’s a reality check for me for sure. I don’t have a problem sleeping. I can lay in bed and within 1-5 minutes I’m already asleep. The problem is me getting into bed to sleep also I’m very addicted on my phone at night just watching educated videos. I need to fix this so I can get more hours of sleep I’ve also noticed my libido has plummeted. I can still get it up but I have no desire to have love….
Dr Berg, thank you for this video. Between 2010 and 2015 I had less than 4 hours of sleep per night. I was in an abuse relationship with 2 non-sleeping babies. The stresslevels were non stop sky high. What happened was getting sick all the time, I got vitamine B,D and iron deficiencies and at one point my legs stopped working properly. My heart had a hard time and i got depressed. Ever since 2015 I have been recovering from this. And thanks to your videos and advice I love my life again. I am still stuck at 60% health, but am getting better every day. Now I understand what happened and why it happened. You have saved my life in more than one way. 😊 I know you will continue saving people with your great advice ❤
Just came across your vlog few days ago and now I'm glued to your vedios everytime I have a chance. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and you are the blessing to everybody. May God bless you and your family.

I knew someone who didn't sleep for many months due to bad family issues and extreme worry. Psychosis eventually developed, she began hearing voices and is now on medication for life. She said there were no such issues when she used to sleep well.
medication for life is a mistake. If in a good place now the person can be slowly withdrawn from the psych drugs. Why a mistake? Google N.Y.T. interview of Dr Nancy Andreasen brain shrinkage.
Tell her to read up on healing narsisistic abuse supplements that heals this. She definitly also has sleep apnea. Love from a girl who also have had sleep apnea but I started supplementing to heal narsisistic abuse and working on exercising more, working on my sleep hygiene too.
I knew a bloke that only slept 2 to 3 hours a night, which apparently his father did too. And although I can't testify to his physical health as an outcome, he was one of the most (if not THE most) intelligent people I've ever met. He was a literal genius, and I could never understand how he coped with so little sleep 🤔
My Uncle is like this, he is in his late 70s now and is sharp as a knife with no remarkable health problems. One of the lucky few genetic anomalies it seems.
I have sleep apnea & insomnia. I have lived with these since 2002. However, I was not medically diagnosed until 2007. Only two doctors have shared honest diagnosis with me in the beginning.. You have shared more with me in 12 minutes ago today since any doctor has since 2007! For that I thank you!

Dr Berg, I’m usually a fan. I sleep 4 hours a night and have been doing so for over 40 years. Memory is great, and I don’t take medications. I meditate, I do the Tibetan rites, walk my 10,000 steps and I’m vegetarian. I take D3, vitamins, iodine etc. If I force myself to sleep more I have headaches. I go to sleep when I’m tired and I wake up without an alarm. Yes, there are a few of us out there. Thank you 🙏🏼
I'm 44 years old, I've been working nights for 18 years. I sleep 5 hours a day and I feel good. Every day I do an hour of weight training and then I go for a 45-minute run. Everyone has a different biological individuality, so sleep hours are not the same for everyone, and the body adapts to everything.
Saddly I will never ever believe anybody that claims this. Even athletes make it there JOB and focus to get 7-9 hours of sleep. They ALL claim the moments they didn't get good rest 100% all had games they " fumbled " were 0-5 , 5 KS. Pitched 5 HRs in the first inning. Not a single one says, yea! Slept 4-5 hours and pitched a perfect game. Or became the MVP. Only people that can do this day in day out but still end up dying from strokes, ptsd are marines.
It really is what works for you and your body. I’ve been getting 9 hours of sleep pretty consistently throughout my whole life. I feel great every time I get that much sleep and I look so youthful. I’m turning 39 in January and people think I look like I’m in my mid-20’s. Big believer in sleep can cure all. I also live by this Initialism: BEARS: Breathing, Exercise, Attitude, Replenish (food/water), Sleep.
I'm needing help. I'm 52 yrs old. For the past year I'm only getting 2-4 hours sleep a night and cannot seem to get more sleep. I also have tons of stress from worrying about failing liver diagnosis. Any ideas on how I can improve sleep without drugs?🙏?? Thanks
If you think ppl get 7-8 hrs of sleep, you're out of touch with the real world. I'm 49, I average 4-5 hrs 6 nights a week. 6 hrs is very rare. Never over 6.
Proverbs 3 : 24 Your sleep will be sweet Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path
I've been sleep deprived since childhood, miraculously, I've reached 61 years of age. I NEVER feel good, rested, upon rising. The first thoughts and words upon getting up are "I feel like s**t"......five hours of actual sleep, continuous, what a D R E A M!!!! I settle for three, or four, intermittently! I hope we get to sleep, and dream, when we die!
for years I worked 10 hours during the day and in the evening as security in the premises....I slept 3-4 hours....sometimes even 36 hours without sleeping.... the first years were beautiful....at 30 I left my second job...now I go to sleep at 9pm and wake up at 5am calmly and rested
As someone who only sleeps 5-6 hours per night, I feel great and have always been healthy. I believe it’s quality over quantity that matters. Some studies also suggest that arising around the same time each morning is more important than # hours of sleep
A quality sleep involve quantity as time is require for your body to enter and complete a full sleep cycle. What more important is when you sleep. Sleeping for 8 hours from 2am is vastly different then 8 hours of sleep from 10pm. Both is 8 hours of sleep... However, one is beneficial to your health while the other will destroy it. Also, not getting enough hours every nights will never be healthy. Just because your body is used to it and you're awake and functioning after only 5 hours of sleep doesn't mean you're healthy. You're surviving but not thriving.
I sleep about 6 hours a night. When i wake up, I'm not tired/sleepy. Im not moody, or depressed. I feel all around just fine. When i was a kid i slept 8 hrs all the time and was always tired. I think the younger you are, the more sleep you need. Heres a lil tip for emf around you when you sleep, put your phone in airplane mode so its not searching for a signal all the time. Those text messages and calls can wait. If you need the phone because you might be expecting a emergency call, put it across the room. Our phones put off an enormous amount of emf especially since most of them are 5G now, which is another serious health consequence. Something i don't recall this channel ever mentioning.
Mad how you mention 5g. I don't know anything about that and WiFi signals, but I've noticed that since I started to put my phone on aeroplane mode with WiFi on (incase of emergency calls etc) my quality of sleep improved. Either a mad coincidence or there's something to the lack of 5g as you allude to.
@@aemyay5169I've read it's actually a natural human issue, something remaining from our evolution, and drops or spikes in certain hormones etc, so we've had to learn how to fall back asleep. Apparently it's very common and some lucky ppl don't even notice because they nod back off almost immediately. Google it. I found it interesting
Me personally- if I fall asleep too early I tend to be wide awake middle of the night. If I push back sleep 2 or 3 hours, it feels like I sleep straight thru🤷
Thank you, as always, Dr. Berg. Two or three nights a week, I fall aeep around 9, the wake up to pee at 3 AM. At that point, I'm widen awake. If I Don't get back in bed, and go ahead and do my morning routine, I'll have pretty steady energy levels throughout the day. However, if I go back to bed and fall back to sleep, I will get maybe two more hours of sleep, but I'll feel so groggy and cranky for the rest of the day. I've been doing keto and OMAD (most days) for about 6 months now. Not sure how that factors in, but before I started living this way, my sleep wasn't great either.
Getting enough sleep is a real challenge. If I'm lucky, and my name has changed to Erasmus B. Draggin', I can, sometimes, grab a catnap in the afternoon. Catnaps can be very refreshing.
Around 9 years ago I had around 2 months of 4 to 5 hours of daily sleep and I have suffered a lot from it. I do remember that there was a pain in my chest that comes and go, and I do remember having some hallucinations for the last few days.
I had sleep apnea/hypopnea for 20 years and didn't know it and I developed a mood disorder from it. Now on CPAP I know how important sleep is. I'm up to 7 hours a night now!
I get 5 1/2 hours sleep every night and that’s it for the last 49 years. I am in good health, I am in better health, and anyone I know who sleeps all the time not everybody needs eight hours I lay down at 11 o’clock. I get up at 5:30 every day for my entire adult life. in fact, since May I have been doing the keto diet and I have lost 65 pounds and due to energy levels because I’m not as fat I have more energy now than I have since I was a kid.
Very informative, I have survived on 4 hours average sleep per night for the past 20 years and I recognise a lot of the symptoms, certainly have lost my concentration.
My 90 year old grandpa Jack Ward only slept 6 hours a night. He probably wouldn't have made it to 90 if he slept over 6hrs a night. Majority of elderly don't sleep much

Great-Grandmother, at nearly 104, never exceeded 5 hours of sleep daily. Grandfather, now 81, also slept just 4-5 hours. My father and I follow suit, sleeping 5-6 hours a day. What's the implication? Each body varies, considering sleep quality (REM) and diet. Even 8 hours may result in tiredness, low spirits, and lacking drive. It's crucial to discover what works best for you. The way I see this. Don't spend 1/3rd of your life sleeping. Become physically fit, get rid of stress so that your body requires the minimal amount of time to regenerate itself.
There are genetic freaks (anomalies) that require less sleep. It’s not a flex-you did nothing to earn it. It’s simply your genetics-be grateful instead of projecting the false narrative that it’s a “life choice” to enjoy more of life that could lead someone ELSE down the path of ill health. Not sure if there’s a relation but a lot of politicians have this anomaly and a whole lot of them are sociopaths.
@Masterr59 people with adhd don't get as good of sleep quality, so they tend to need more. I have adhd and I need 8-10 hours to feel rested. I have multiple dreams all night long and wake up feeling tired from all the dreaming.
Fantastic! This information is Solid Gold! I know, this week I'm running on several nights with 6 hours of sleep, and one night with 5 hours. I drive 90 miles for my job, and sometimes I wonder if I'll make it. It's Totally Stupid of me to put myself and others in that situation! Thanks Dr. Berg! I am required to get a medical exam every year at work, and the good doctor there prescribed M.E.D.S. I forget what the M stands for, but E is for Exercise. D is for Diet. S is for, you guessed it, SLEEP! Glad to have a D.O. doctor at work that doesn't push drugs for this, and drugs for that. The MD & DO doctors where my wife works a pushers. 😝 Thanks Dr. Berg! Thanx Doc, excellent video. Super helpful. It all makes sense why my wife stays stressed out, she only gets 4.5 to 5.5 hours of sleep. Its impossible for her to lose weight and thyroid meds dont help. I have to share this video with her. Blessings and thank you for your sevice.
A few years ago I was having bad memory issues, I had to think hard to say names of things like ‘doornob’ and even my kids names. I thought I had a brain tumor. My doctor asked if I slept well, I said of course, I sleep 8 hours a day. After work I would crash for 3.5 hours, then wake up and work until 1 or 2 am, and sleep 4.5 hours after that. She told me that was the equivalent of sleep deprivation, techniques used to torture people and break them down mentally! She recommend a trial of 8 hours of sleep for 2 weeks. My memory came back!! I am so thankful for that doctor not saying I was depressed or something. Whenever I don’t get my sleep my mind slips back into really bad memory loss. Don’t believe the hustle culture, get some sleep!!!
I’m 57 with five adult children and for many years I didn’t get much sleep and often I just couldn’t go to sleep or would wake up many times a night and able to get into a deep sleep. Over the past three years I’ve done lots of research on it and finally am at a point where I can sleep 7 to 9 hours a night and I actually feel good. When I didn’t get much sleep, I couldn’t hardly even drive to the grocery store and back without falling asleep while driving. Long trips required that I pull over several times and take naps. I was always foggy, brained and pretty grumpy but tried not to be. I understand being in a position where it’s impossible to work in the time to get enough sleep. I was that way for years. It really took a toll on my health in many ways.
I was 22 years in civil service. Had to work hours in the middle of the night and 12 hour shifts in the dead of winter. Absolute torture . Lack of sleep or trying to sleep in the middle of the day. This is what a corrupted society forces people to do. Today I make sure I get at least 7-8 hours sleep. I feel and look 20 years younger than I did while working.
So I got diagnosed with sleep apnea and was asked if I was tired all the time. I didn’t think I was and they told me I was getting about 3 hours of actual sleep per night. I ended up getting a sleep apnea mouth piece as it was the cheapest attempt to resolve the issue and now I sleep 7 & 1/2 hours every night. I wake up feeling rested and energized and also I no longer wake up with migraines/headaches. My digestive track has also gotten much better. It changed my life by actuality sleeping the correct amount of time that my body needed to rest. I suffer from migraines and they’re almost gone which I take nurtec if they ever come. I think there’s so many more problems due to lack of sleep than we actually know about and with time and research it will only discover more issues that are currently unknown 🤔
Ive been experimenting with this. I stopped all exercise in the last 2 weeks. Weighing at night and in the morning. I now get 7 or more hours of sleep per night and feel so much better. I was getting up early to do walking but turns out I really needed that extra hour of sleep. The nights I get 5 hours sleep or less I weigh more in the morning. Rather then just at the end of the day which is normal.
As an air traffic controller that works 10hr midnight shifts 4x wk plus OT, I'm lucky if I get 5 hours during the daylight hours. This is the story of my life.
I had trouble getting more than 6 hours sleep, I had very little, often no deep sleep, and also an elevated resting heart rate. This gave me many of the symptoms Dr Berg described in the video. Credit where due, my long time friend noticed that my worst symptoms coincided with increased consumption of vinegar. She suggested a trial of periods of cutting out vinegar, including pickles, from my diet and noting the results. Her observation proved correct, and the trial has been repeated three times now with a strong correlation of cause and effect. I don't have the resources to do more than a n = 1 trial, so Dr Berg, if you could carry out proper testing you may be able to establish a link.
Very proud of checking almost all boxes here. I sleep an average of 8 hours a night for about 7 years now. I changed my life and live alot healthier now.
I can go to bad as much as I want on time I will 100% wake up after 5 hours. My whole life I've never needed more than 6 hours sleep. If it happened sometimes that I slept 7 or 8 hours I looked and I felt super tired. I strongly believe we're all different and when it comes to how much sleep we need, there's no one answer fits all.
I'm 43 and have had sleep issues for absolutely years. I've tried about everything sleep related. My naturopath has tried so many things as well and hardly a thing seems to work to keep me sleeping. My blood work is ALL perfectly great and it's a puzzle that is truly missing a piece. Very very frustrating.
I’ve been sleeping so light since I started keto 2 years ago. I can’t sleep much more than 5 hours anymore. I’ve tried all the advice in the world but even if I go off keto I can’t get back to 8 hours.
I took Classical guitar lessons from a master. he was in his 70s He told me he only sleeps 5 hours since he was in his 20s. He was very sharp and intelligent.
It's not only getting enough sleep but quality of sleep. The problem to tackle is being able to sleep all the way through rem the deepest part of the sleep cycle because that is also the time when the body repairs itself or deep sleep. Unfortunately it can occur during the morning hours precisely when most of us have to wake up for school and work, therefore robbing the masses of critical body and mind repairing for years to come, generation upon generation.
Dr. Berg thank- you again for the pearls of wisdom! What is your advice for night owls on the grave yard shift? Also, can you talk about the 4-hour sleep study as it seems like a healthy range some have adopted. My guess is that it's 4 hours of quality delta sleep ect.. which i hear takes 1 week to adjust to.
I have an overactive bladder so this is literally me almost every night 😅 I wake up after five hours (exact) after falling asleep, I do try going back to sleep but it’s a hit or miss
I have the same issue since 11 years. It's so frustrating and grueling and of course I'm extremely exhausted. I have tried more than 100 natural remedies/food supplements, nothing helps.
I remember when my daughter was born I was getting around 3-4 hours a night for about 6 months. I literally would almost fall asleep walking. Good times.
I'm in the thick of it! For the past 3 years between two horrible pregnancies and infant/toddler not sleeping, I've gotten at most 3 hours sleep every night. For 3 years. I actually feel like I'm dying and don't know how I'll ever recover from this 😭 but I love them oh so much 💓 it's still worth it.
Those baby and toddler years are difficult in the sleep department… But hold onto hope because it truly does get easier. I know it might be difficult to think this right now but you will look back on these days and miss them. I remember being so tired and rocking my newborn in the middle of the night while my three year old finally started sleeping peacefully… I remember just knowing as difficult as it was I was going to miss it. I kind of felt like if I reminded myself of that it would make it easier. I would pray while I rocked and thank God that I was blessed to have these children and thanked Him also for even the difficult times. Well, 20+ years later I realize I was right. I would love to go back and hold my babies again. Rest with them when you can. You have to be kind to yourself like that and realize things will smooth out eventually. For now take care of you while you take care of them.
This is why im not having anymore kids, my oldest daughter had colic and would sleep all day and be awake all night and she would spend most of the night crying. The only sleep I got was about 3 hours in the daytime because I also had to cook and clean and run my household.
in the military on deployment you are only getting (at least my platoon) in the Marines we only got 4 hours of sleep, and sometimes it's in the middle of the day and you can't seem to get to sleep because it's super hot out.
I worked double shifts for 3 months straight only sleeping from midnight to 5 am , I ended up having a stroke 5 months ago , basically full recovery but I'm certain the work schedule had something to do with it.
Sleep quality is so important. Trust me-my anxiety is worse because of insomnia and vice versa. It’s horrible. Meditation, magnesium and yoga help me relax.

Hi Dr Berg! Could you please make a video about chronotypes? Because there are harmful myths circulating that you can change your chronotype. My whole life I was being gaslit that I get up "too late" while I'm rather a night owl. People tried to "fix" my circadian rythm and I had a permanent jet lag and poor health because of that. Thank you! 💖
Is it a myth? I would also like a video about the chronotypes! Used to be a night owl and start living like dr Breuse advised for night owls. I took the test again and now I am categorised as a bear.
This video change my perspective of sleep, I get only 5 to 6 hours and I feel horrible everyday but now working on it had made thing better in my life, small step matter on the daily if you put effort to your sleep.
Dr Berg, any tips for moms who nurse their babies through the night and get less than 6 hours of sleep most nights? I have 4 kids ages 7 and under. My 10 month old nurses quite a few times through the night too. Any tips to help babies sleep better through the night?
Putting the kids up for adoption will most likely allow your sleep cycle to return to normal. As far as helping a newborn sleep through the night, a small tiny cup of nyquil usually works well.
In all honesty, I have been going on 2-4 hours of sleep a night for decades. It might have something to do to do with the multiple tbi’s and such but I also stretch and work out pretty regularly. I’m in my 40’s too.
Thanks a lot for all the gloom by describing ALL the issues I’ve had for several years. I got rid of all the meds and though I feel better I don’t sleep better. It’s worse. And a Chris pain issue started as well. I’ve done all the suggestions and I don’t sleep better. I always hope to get 6 hrs , lucky to get 5 but mostly get 4. It’s like my whole body shifted into a different mode which I have no control over. I don’t hear any help in this video just the dire results I can’t avoid I guess since I have all the results described without going back to the md and taking all the meds again. Which is worse? Getting poisoned slowly over time or living with a shortened lifespan thru the effects of lack of enough sleep? I don’t think there is one size fits all doc.
I say all the time the greatest gift i want is to sleep great! I have never slept 8 hours as an adult. And only 2x in the last 7yrs i slept 6 hours. I would be happy to even sleep 6 hours nightly. I think what keeps my mood stabilize is my lifestyle of yoga & meditation.
this is probably not related to doc eric’s video but still about sleep. i have ALWAYS been a morning person and i love to work as early in the morning cause then i’d get to finish before 6pm or even earlier. i have never tried working on a night shift before and for the first time in my life i am going to be starting my new job second week of december and its from 9pm to 6am. the one thing that really scares me the most is not the job but how my body is going to react and adjust on my new sleep schedule. at this point i’m not even sure if i’ll even be able to survive this job due to the working hours. the reason why i accepted the job in the first place was because of the offer and career growth. i just pray that my body can easily adapt to this new body clock 😭
What to do if you’re not getting enough sleep:
1. Take a nap
2. Keep your room cool (between 60 to 68 degrees Fahrenheit) and leave your window open if possible
3. Try to keep the humidity in your room at 50%
4. Turn off all electronics in your room when you’re sleeping
5. Don’t overeat or undereat in the evening, and make sure to consume enough protein
6. Don’t eat too late in the evening
7. As it gets dark, start dimming the lights and avoiding blue light

Truck drivers do so much for us. Thank you!
That's what my hubby does right now!

Dr. Berg, I get only 5 hours of sleep but during the afternoon I get a few 15-20 minute naps and I live a stress free life. And I feel fine and happy.
I would say add a couple of hours to your sleep, 💤💤💤 evening being the best time. You may think you are fine now, but over the years you might not be.

If you think ppl get 7-8 hrs of sleep, you're out of touch with the real world. I'm 49, I average 4-5 hrs 6 nights a week. 6 hrs is very rare. Never over 6.

How about havin both quality & quality together?
A saying back when in kid form, rise with the sun or you're dumb!
I've been 5-6 my whole life and I'm almost 40 now.
Anymore sleep than that and I barley function
A quality sleep involve quantity as time is require for your body to enter and complete a full sleep cycle. What more important is when you sleep. Sleeping for 8 hours from 2am is vastly different then 8 hours of sleep from 10pm. Both is 8 hours of sleep... However, one is beneficial to your health while the other will destroy it.
Also, not getting enough hours every nights will never be healthy. Just because your body is used to it and you're awake and functioning after only 5 hours of sleep doesn't mean you're healthy. You're surviving but not thriving.
And going to bed around the same time every night too
I sleep about 6 hours a night.

If I Don't get back in bed, and go ahead and do my morning routine, I'll have pretty steady energy levels throughout the day.
AMEN
There are genetic freaks (anomalies) that require less sleep. It’s not a flex-you did nothing to earn it. It’s simply your genetics-be grateful instead of projecting the false narrative that it’s a “life choice” to enjoy more of life that could lead someone ELSE down the path of ill health. Not sure if there’s a relation but a lot of politicians have this anomaly and a whole lot of them are sociopaths.
Quality of sleep is important. People may be "sleeping" for 9 hours, but waste 20-30% of it. People who drink alcohol to fall asleep, for example.

Welcome to life as a menopausal woman. Or a mother of teenagers who drift in at all hours of the night and babies and toddlers.
What was your job? I'm a night owl and can do those hours easily. But it's not for everyone for sure.
I love night shift. All the A hole bosses work days so I hardly ever have to deal with them.

I have the same issue since 11 years. It's so frustrating and grueling and of course I'm extremely exhausted. I have tried more than 100 natural remedies/food supplements, nothing helps.
@@eva5637 I tried many methods, none of them really have done anything. My urologist doesn’t even know what to do.
Drink less before going to bed
Sounds like your NREM/ REM cycle is 5hours. Mine is 4 hours. Even when I didn't have to go to bathroom, I'd wake up after 4 hours exactly.
I get 5-6 hours a sleep every night and I feel great. I’m a 57 year old grandma… I exercise daily, eat healthy … it’s all good ! 😀
Thanks a bunch, Doc. I'll send to those who need this
That's so great! Thanks.
@@Drbergthank You❗
I remember when my daughter was born I was getting around 3-4 hours a night for about 6 months.
What kind of magnesium , and when do you take it?
Thanks for your input.
I have done this and ended up with sepsis in hospital for 2 weeks from relapse of cmv from childhood. I worked days, had class in evening, and worked very hard on my house which needed much work. Your body responds. Sleep and rest are most important of all things.
When I get 5 hours of sleep I feel like absolute crap I can’t do it. I need at least 7 to feel decent but 8 or 9 hours I feel amazing 🤩
lol I’m trying to get there
Pretty much me for years. 4 hours every night. Every couple of months, I'll crash for 12+ hours straight.
You're describing my life since May of 2008.
@Helenegardener Thanks for the tip, I've seen a few of those videos. Mine is caused by specific congenital health issues related to pain and a couple of other things.
Me almost every night for the past 5 years
❤🙏 Thanks alot dr Berg.Great content, and excellent explanation
Thanks! Comments like these are super encouraging.
Thank you for your service DR, & happy late Veterans Day brother!
I have stage 4 peripheral neuropathy so I wake up every couple hrs. I haven't slept more than 3 hrs straight in over 15 years because of the pain. Total nightmare!
Lots of videos out there on helping decrease neuropathy symptoms
I have Never slept i was very abused as a child and it was always at night I am almost 65 No Meds I have spinal issues but I’m up and moving God is Good to me I treasure even 2 hrs a night
Dr Berg’s videos /articles on spinal issues, on trauma, stress relief, ect, may help.
how long is your average sleep?
What does this say about industries that drive poor sleep?
i read an article, not the quantity of hours in sleep, but the deep sleep 2 or 4 hours, this need to be achieved not the 8 hours sleep
God bless who can sleep 7 hrs straight, that's almost impossible for many people
Hey Dr Berg ,can you do a video on pulsatile tinnitus, as it affects my sleep
Hi Dr Berg Thank You So Very Much For Sharing
I’m Experiencing This Quite Often. Im Going Through Anxiety And Depression
Im Taking Anxiety Medication Some Days I Sleep Well Some Days I Don’t.Getting The Proper Amount Of Sleep Is Important.
I don’t have a problem falling asleep it’s staying asleep. I’m doing keto, taking vitamin D3/K2, Magnesium glycanate
Reducing electronics in my bedroom and a lot of other things you mentioned. What could be the problem? What’s the solution?
Take B1 and Ashwagandha
Ashwhaghanda, B1(benfotiamine), magnesium help me get to sleep and a little guy by the name of CBN helps me stay asleep. Google him- transformed my sleep!! Hopefully it's "available" where you live😊
Dr Berg’s videos /articles on anxiety and on depression may help.
@@angeladiaz7746Dr Berg’s videos /articles on staying asleep / waking up in the middle of the night, on the adrenals, salt, potassium, true vitamin c, ect, may also help.
@eva5637 what's the title of his video on night owls?
@@megmodaff5989 it was a website from dr Michael Breuse called the Power of when. Very interesting!!
This video change my perspective of sleep, I get only 5 to 6 hours and I feel horrible everyday but now working on it had made thing better in my life, small step matter on the daily if you put effort to your sleep.
I love that this video sparked so many people to share their stories! Thank you for posting, everyone!!!
Appreciate the message, and all the inspiring stories!
Thanks for sharing your experience. Wishing you good health.
Are you in shape tho? Just cause you workout doesn’t mean you’re in shape?
Do you need to sleep all at one time? I tend to wake up and be awake for an hour or so, then go back to sleep.
Most indigenous people sleep in two blocks of 3 hours with waking time in between.
Same. After about 5 hours, I wake up with my mind alert. I may or may not feel a need for a nap later on.
5 hrs would be a blessing.
I sleep the best with candle burning all the night+ sounds from speeker. Like rain or wind. Helps a lot!
Me watching this after getting 5 hours of sleep

Some of the other Dr Berg’s videos /articles on sleep 😴 brain may help with more data.
this is me right now LMAO.
Same😭
Me too
Well that's bad

I don’t think there is one size fits all doc.
u tried a grounding mat? emf check? incandescent lights? you get sun? you eating carbs?
