Thanks for all the information Priyantha. I really hope Sri Lanka will change these laws. It is such a hassle for a recreational drone operator to go through this process. It make sense for a business to do this as they fly drone to make money. Instead they should enforce geo fencing like they do in USA and many other countries.

Hi, I have few quections here,
1. Is it a 100% online process? No need to visit CAASL ?
2. What about the Insurance cover? Isn't it mandatory now?
3. No any registration fee?
Hi. I registered a DJI Mavic 2 Pro which is a sort of a serious drone.
1. 100% online
2. Nothing mentioned of it. But it could be because I did not fly in a high urban area still. I heard some were requested to do so.
3. No fee for registering. Only flying

This was really helpful. But I have a practical question. Say I want to fly my drone in a heavily secluded area. Away from human habitat and much from animals. In that sort of a scenario getting this kind of permissions are just impractical , right? Practically speaking. I agree that it's desirable and pertaining to the law, but since there are no "authorities" to monitor it is okay to fly right? (Given that I don't disturb any wild life ) I have many friends those don't have any kind of license , but fly freely. That's why.
Well tbh lot of pilots does it. And yes far as it goes if it doesn't harm anyone's privacy or makes any damage its safe to fly. But this is the prevailing law. Which is why I mentioned that droning for leisure is a question

I have a “WLtoys X1s Pro” GPS, 12Mp 4k gimble controllable by remote, drone”. I don’t find any printed serial no on the drone or on the battery. What should I do when it comes to writing the serial no on application form, and when pasting the photo of the serial no? Kindly please advise me...
It is unlikely that you don't have a serial number. Any other unique number that can identify? You can write and mention same.
@@priyanthabandaraphotography Thanks a Lot for replying sir. A serial-number is not available anywhere, on the drone, battery, manual or on the box. I googled and searched also by the drone brand and model no (WL toys XK X1S) and couldn’t find and unique serial number for this brand model. I have looked for any other type of unique number everywhere as sir said, but I couldn’t find one of such. Sir kindly advise me, what must I do in this situation??? 🙂
In this case you should mention it specifically and include more pics to prove your case with the application. Or give a call to caa or write to them first asking for instructions

@@priyanthabandaraphotography i have a mavic Mini which is bellow 200g but it does have camera :) example hong kong laws says any drone below 200g is allowed even with camera.. thought its the same in CMB.. we do travel clips around the world .. would you be willing to share your clips with us :) you have done some amazing work.. keep up the great work you do

But I think there was some clause about flying in private areas. Check CAA guidelines on their web site

Priyantha, before registering my drone CAASL requested me to obtain a public Insurance cover for Rs.500'000/= insuring 3rd party damage.
They didn't ask me this. Could be because I have not asked permission for high urban areas?
