  • Just a quick mockup assembly of the MMU2S Extruder variant parts included in the MK3S distribution, and speculation on new features and operational improvements.

I think they don't need to use the MMU calibration feature at all any more. If the sensor can detect that the gears are engaging some filament, that would completely replace the need to calibrate the filament lengths. I'm assuming the firmware will have some sort of timeout and a check to see if the gears are engaged or not, which would replace the existing functions it uses for loading the filament with the MMU.

They don't. Thats part of this update. That is why you need updates extruder parts specific for the MMU2s

Another very troublesome aspect is that the selector moves to a new position even when the PINDA should detect that there is filament loaded. Causes such a jam. This would not be possible

Why wouldn't they know that the filament is down to the gears with the mk3s extruder? The sensor is before the gears in both cases. You think they will wire the sensor on the extruder directly to the mmu?

Couple things, the MMU2 can generate a "spear" on the end of the filament during extraction which could in theory false-trigger the filament sensor, but it wouldn't actually deflect the idler; by detecting *with* the idler they can be sure the filament is being positively fed by the extruder direct-drive rather than the MMU2 multiplexer. AFAIK the MK3 laser sensor was always disabled with MMU2 installed (I could be wrong), but the new sensor doesn't need CPU time to read, it's just a trigger with or without MMU2(S).

I found the "upgrade" to be very confusing. There are two distinctly different paths (1) is if you only upgrade the MK3 to a MK3 s. In this instance you will have the stainless ball as the filament sensor. EASY DONE (2) If however you have a MMU2 on your machine you upgrade the MK 3 by changing the extruder housing and you do not use the stainless ball filament thingy, but the other alternative. IF YOU HAVE A MK3 S YOU HAVE ALREADY CHANGED YOUR HOUSING AND FILAMENT SENSOR TO THE STAINLESS BALL THINGY. YOU NOW REMOVE THE STAINLESS BALL AND REPLACE WITH THE OTHER THINGY. My question to PRUSA though is who at this point goes from a MK3 s to upgrading a MMU2 to a MMU2 s if both upgrades come together. Its confusing and senseless.

Mark Stemmett the MK3*S* upgrade is a prerequisite for the MMU2S; much as the MK2.5/MK3 is a prerequisite for the MMU2... and to make it a bit easier the MK3 to MK3S (or MK2.5 to MK2.5S) upgrade parts are provided free with MMU2S; and unless I’m mistaken all MMU2 buyers get the MMU2S upgrade free. The most confusing part is how much free stuff you’ll get, and even if you don’t qualify for any free stuff and got the last MK3 on 1/27, the MK3S print yourself upgrade is only $20, not bad if you ask me!

@@LA3DPrinterRepair The problem is that what you correctly write is actually a half truth. You do not upgrade the MK3 to a MK3 S well not completely, you do not do the sensor. In actual fact what you do is rebuilt the extruder with the MMU2s sensor so in actual fact you do nothing to the MK3 other than flash. What is the pointy of free stuff that goes to landfill. If you have a MMU you need to build the extruder for the MMU right

@@markstemmett5296 I just got my MK2.5S/MMU2s upgrade kit. I had MMU1 before. Here is what your missing. I like to have the option to go back to MK2.5s with out MM2s. When I had MMU1 I had a lot problems. I ended uptakeing off MMU1. So if that happens again with MMU2s. I am not stuck in MMU mode.

    That isn’t the MMU2s

This is the MK3s extruder update with specific extruder updates for use with MMU2s
