    I am so glad you made this video. My filament was knotted on the reel and it broke below the gears in my Prusa MK3S. I tried pushing with the filament with no success. I tried a #50 drill, but it is .03mm too large. A #51 drill would likely work, but I don't have one. I was afraid I was going to have to disassemble the extruder assembly. Using one of the small Allen wrenches worked a treat. It was a little difficult at first, but then moved easily. I am now back in business! Thank you so much!

    Thanks for the video. I recently had my first stuck filament and ended up using the supplied needle nose plyers to work it up and out. After getting the filament out I recut it at 45 degrees passed the stripped filament area and then reloaded it. There was a nice blob that extruded before it went back to being smooth, obviously my problem. Did a test print and good to go again. The other videos I watched had the basic "heat, unload, reload" which didn't work. 3 years later and your video is still saving people from a headache, much appreciated. PS. I really enjoyed your initial comment basically saying, "It doesn't matter how we got here, but we are here." Made me laugh out loud because it is so true.

    Thank you, I thought I had lost a print entirely during a planned filament swap but the hex key trick was able to finally push that stubborn stuck filament back out the other end. Great video. Thanks for that. I Just like to mention a thing I discovered when unloading the filament. If you do an unload filament the filament comes out and a beep sound is created with a message on the screen "pull out filament immediately". First it took me some time before I realized and read the message, but pulling it out was just going fine. Later on, when I knew the message was going to come to pull out immediately I already put my fingers around the filament to be ready to pull as soon as the sound beep would appear. My advice is not to do that. Because if you pull too fast the filament is getting stuck, It happened to me when i was new with the Prusa around 5 times. I took the message Immediately too serious. When I realized I had to wait 2 or 3 seconds before pulling after the beep, I never experienced a stuck filament during unload ever again. This can prevent you from needing to dismount the printer and repair it.

    • @LA3DPrinterRepair
      @LA3DPrinterRepair  ปีที่แล้ว

      It says "immediately" for a reason: if you let the filament cool in an odd orientation, it can cool "hooked" and catch on the inside lip of the "lid". So no, don't let it sit there, but don't RIP it out like a wild-hair either, just guide it out at the same pace it's feeding and don't be a slacker about it.
      Maintain grip when you start the unload process, the beep signals the physical handoff to the operator (you), so pull it away.

    Unfortunately had a 16 hour print fail twice at around the same time (hour 11ish) with this problem..
    Thank you so much for saving me a massive headache! Mine turned out to be this combined with a clog, assumingly due to previously printing with PETG and not all of it got out. I preheated my hotend to well past PETG temps, and manually pushed out my stuck filament like in this video, and then pushed a bunch of PLA through the extruder to force out any leftover buildup inside.
    Hopefully clearing out my nozzle of any leftover other materials will let me fix this print.
    Thanks again!

      If you did a tear down, be absolutely sure the PTFE in the hotend is secured with the collar, it should have no movement up and down, otherwise you can have strange extrusion issues during retraction. Good work!

    • @LA3DPrinterRepair

    • @LA3DPrinterRepair
      @LA3DPrinterRepair  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The clicking noise comes from the motor, but the obstruction causing the back pressure which makes the motor stall is in the hotend, most likely if the printer has been working well for countless hours, is carbon deposits built-up in the nozzle, poke it until it flows, then cold pull it until it’s clean, or swap it and be sure to hot-tighten and do it right. 💪🏻🖨☝🏻

    • @KevinKelly

      I have the same problem. I can insert a needle from bottom with no blockage. The filament is broken right at bottom of the gear box. I heated the nozzle to 250C for ten minutes. But the filament will not budge when I insert a probe, no matter how hard I pushed. I am reluctant to apply any more force. The filament there is not melted and it feels as if it is stuck/glue at that point. What are the steps prior to pushing in the probe? What temperature are you heating the nozzle to? Are you heating anything else? Should it heat up all the way to that point of the filament? Should I take off the fan on the side, to have it heat up the whole extruder?
