- Did a two day solo trip out to Banff, where I had the chance to cycle though grasslands and mountains. This was my first over-night bike packing trip that I did in preperation for a three week trip
I had coming up (and the vlog for that one will be out soon too)!
you can find me on instagram @ jennakoenig
Thanks for watching :)
this is the kind of adventure i imagined i was doing just biking to the corner store when i was 10
This is probably one of the most realistic depictions of what real travel is like that I've ever seen: Unreliable Google Maps, undocumented construction that makes you have to walk your bike up ten stories, shoulder paths that run out unexpectedly, semis flying by that make you realize just how precarious one's predicament is, etc. This, indeed, is what a real travel adventure experience is really all about. Well covered! Thanks!
very nice bike ride. This is the essence of bikepacking: you can see and feel each detail of the trip; you suffer; you don't stop; you get there and suddenly all the pain turns out into great memories and a sense of achievement that launchs you immediately on planning the next one. Thanks for sharing!!
Jenna, thanks for taking the time to not only ride the distance, but to also document, edit and post your travels. It takes a special person to take the time to set up your cameras, provide commentary, and put it all together in a video. Well done. In your simple way you are an inspiration.
your vlogs will forever be my comfort videos. you genuinely inspire me to live + experience
♥️
First thing you’re a total badass! Also what a great friend! She hung that little sign and greeted you with so much love! This is what life is all about. Well done and thanks for sharing!
I've been suffering from depression and anxiety and i dont know what i wang to do with my life. One thing i know i want for sure is to cycling and see the beautiful of places. Thank you for showing me the way to little happiness Jenna ❤..
❤❤❤
Me too. When I feel depressed , I will go cycling. It is a good way to refresh.
go live youre dreams!! you can do it
Hope you started cycling and seeing new beautiful places. When your quads and glutes ache you will forget your mental troubles for a while. Go do it.
Is biking really can heal anxiety ?
im felt that depression and scared too
Not to sound like a jackass but I had no idea how absolutely beautiful Canada is. 😭 the greenery!! And the mountains! All the towns shops! They’re stunning. 🌲🍃💚
dang bro idk how to tell you this but you really sound like a jackass (/s)
😂 Canada is gorgeous! :)
not all of it, lol. but this part, yes.
Only during summer
@@wadexyzhonestly all of it
Thank you for bringing me here algorithm, love your video style. That looked like a fun trip, amazing scenery. Hope to see more in future:)
Thankyou!!
I absolutely love everything about this video. I’m 54 and just got my first bike since being a kid. Thank you for sharing your amazing ride. I’m looking forward to getting in shape and exploring. This video is just perfect! ❤
@@WaterFunFL thanks for this comment! Enjoy your new bike, I wish you many great rides and adventures to come 😁
your friend being so proud of you and hyping up that achievement was 10/10, what a real one
I don't know why, but your videos always make me feel calm - I admire your honesty and rawness- that's very unique of you. especially since you don't get to see that on social media that often nowadays. Thank you truly - I'll always admire your content where you show us a little glimpse of your creative mind... 💚
I appreciate you taking the time to watch, and Thankyou so much for your encouragement ♥️ TH-cam inspires me in a lot of ways and I’m glad I could send some calm your way :)
Absolutely loved this. I am 51 and want to get more into bike packing. I never thought of Canada....thanks for sharing your Journey. Can't wait to see so much more!!
Thankyou so much!
And yes there is such beautiful scenery here and very different types of landscapes depending on what province you go to 😁 I hope you enjoy your future travels/adventures, best of luck 😁♥️
Absolutely amazing Jenna. Just discovered this video and such a pleasure to watch. There is nothing on this planet like being out on your bike. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this wonderful video and no doubt many more to come. Happy cycling!👍🙂
Awesome vlog. You are so brave. But you need to be safe while riding. I suggest day running super bright flashing lights, front and back. Because drivers tend to get sleepy on long, straight road.
This was a very fun watch! I'm from SK and often try to get out to Banff for most of my summers. I've always wanted to pike around there, but biking from Calgary would be amazing! I have very fond memories of the area from the last few years, so this inspires me to get out there soon. Great vid!
This was a refreshing video, seasonal depression has just kicked in so I’ve been sitting inside most days after work doing nothing… but this was a good reminder I can still get outside and and move my body and learn to enjoy this season 🫶🏼
I’ve been trying to remind myself the same thing ♥️
Get a full spectrum light. First thing in the morning use it 20 minutes on your face. Also take vitamin D
I recommend Jesus Christ. God Bless.
@@BurgerSleuth-yx1keHe has helped me out of the depression now 🫶🏼
@@midwestladyy that’s so awesome hear!. God is so good!!!. We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Thank you Jesus!
110 stairs to be exact...lol...its right by my moms house, we had to bring our recumbent trikes(60-65lbs no gear) and 7 bags of gear up and down this when we cycled across Canada in 2021. Believe me I know your pain! Good for you for choosing highway 1, I totally agree with 1A being too windy and who can ride on a 1" shoulder with a 3 inch drop to the gravel....lol...no thanks!! Oh how I miss being on the road! Much love! and excited to watch more vids! Thanks!
I live in Canmore and use the Legacy Trail daily in summer as means for getting on to cycling adventures in Banff, Kootenay, Yoho, etc. I always wonder what the other folks on Legacy are thinking when they're riding/walking/running it - love the genuine perspective and wonder you showcase in this - awesome work!
So jealous of anyone lives near Banff to be surrounded by all that lush greenery. Good job on the ride, great video!
Thankyou! and yes I try not to take the forests/mountains for granted its very beautiful here :)
Thank you TH-cam for recommending me your video Jenna! Loved it so much, I just want to get out on my bike now
Thankyou for watching! Enjoy your ride 😁😁
Young and full of life! Amazing video
Incredible video and ride!! Enjoyed the honesty about the difficulty + not so fun parts! Inspiring me to figure out how to do this in TN/USA where bikes aren't allowed on the highway like this. Envious of your kit + bike trails/infrastructure around there!! Looking forward to more of your vids!!
What highways in Tennessee? We can ride any road we want in Montana and most o the west. Including the interstate.
Check out which USBR’s are near you!
Good video , bike tripping these days is getting so much more popular , and that's a good thing , wish i was young again to get back on a bike .
Beautiful country you have there , thanks for posting.
Incredible editing and journey, you did amazing!
Thank you for sharing, take care 💫
It is a pleasure to travel on such roads where everything is convenient for cycling.
I am always looking for fun cycling adventures to watch. This was great, awesome visuals and a simple way of story telling. Great balance plus the area you rode through couldn't have been better. Kudos on conquering your highway fears. I'll definitely be tuning into more content. Now it's time for me to get on my bike for ride!!!
Thankyou so much for you kind words! A lot of time and effort went into the editing so hearing feedback like this really makes my day 😁♥️ enjoy your ride
Huge fan, and I aspire to this nomadic road tripping. I pray you remain safe on your travels and encounter beauty and beautiful souls throughout your journeys
That was so awesome! Such beautiful scenery out there, and your best friend is correct, you are a beast and a fit queen and I was inspired. You certainly know how to live life! Cheers!
🤣♥️♥️
Your video of the solo ride is simply amazing! It’s hard to find the right words to capture how awesome it is. Keep up the great work and continue enjoying the journey!😃😃😃😃😃
I love these adventure vlogs, its always a treat to find a new video from you😊
Awe Thankyou so much! I definitely have a lot more “adventure” content coming! Just working though all the editing haha
Great video, My son and I cycled from Edmonton to Kamloops last summer, another awesome scenic tour.
We'll done Jenna! Thank you so much for sharing your awesome adventure.
And Thankyou for watching 😁
Looking forward to watch your future adventures. Stay safe and healthy.
Come cycle in the Netherlands. We don't have scenery like Banff, but the bike paths are pretty chill. I cycled a lot in Vancouver, but I would take the bus to quiet areas so I could climb the mountains.
Such an awesome wholesome video Jenna! I must say it is very well filmed and you look so happy biking. you should sing more and imitate the trucks more as well haha. More power to you for many more rides to come. Keep inspiring. Since I am in canada I will definitely try and do the Calgary - Banff ride! Thank you so much for the video.
Thankyou so much! It was definitely a fun adventure, if you try the ride yourself I might recommend exploring the backroads rather than taking highway 1! Beautiful views but very chaotic with the traffic! I might try a different route next time 😊
I really like your attitude and optimism, it looks very natural.
I hope to take a walk similar to yours soon.
All the best
Remember it's all about journey, not the destination. Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
Such a beautiful country. Safe and happy travels Jenna.
Nicely done on both the ride and the video. Riding across Canada is on my list of things to do and the scenery here looks amazing.
thank you! and best of luck there is so much to see here I hope you get the chance :)
I've cycled the Legacy Trail a few times now and yes, the thought of going to Calgary has crossed my mind. But that highway scares the crap out of me. lol. Good work, girl!
Well done on that bike ride….wow.such spectacular scenery on the way to your destination. You’re lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
Greetings from Ireland 👍
Wow I could say the same to you haha would love to see Ireland one day
Absolutely love this video!
I'm mentally preparing myself to start commuting to my work by bicycle, i've been riding my motorcycle a little bit and realized i can save even more on gas by riding a bicycle. As a female rider it's a little strange the looks I get but idc!
it's about a 50 min bike ride my maps says and i'm excited to start taking new routes.
I work at ups so our start time are usually from 4-5am till 9 am and peak season (christmas time) our start times have been as early as 1:50am!
Just sharing how this video have helped my excitement for this new lifestyle change.
Also for the sake of you and everyone reading this, Evian spelled backwards is Naive...
don't buy their water, please, unfortunately companies these days are just allowed to lie out their BUTTS like no other.
All Love, thanks for the content ❤
So happy for you! And respect to your grind 1:50 in the morning is insane!! Best of luck♥️♥️
Absolutely my kind of ride, adventurous, BEAUTIFUL and a bit reckless hehe. The point you make at 8:35 is exactly why I love riding my bike
Hehe it’s not always perfect but it’s always a worthwhile experience 🤭
I got into biking this week ever in my life. Naturally fed the algorithm with cycling content but damn what a top tier quality content this is! I saw your other trips and def will check them as well! Take care!
so nice to see u reunite with mollie!!!
I was riding through Noca Scotia one day, stopped at a little bridge on a quiet side road. It had rained and the sun was just coming out and the heat of the sun was making the metal bridge railings pop with the sound of the river flowing below. There were wild cherries, blueberries and raspberries asking the backs that I ate. There was a smell in the air, that smell of the rain evaporating from the road mixed. And of course the sight of it all. As I'm standing there soaking it all in through all my sense a car drove past and I'm that moment I knew that the driver was missing all of it, all he got was the sight and barely that. There is no better way to explore a country than by bicycle.
Hello there, I recently got a bike. I was watching video. Surprisingly my puppy watched whole video. He really liked it, he licked my hand when you showed boiled eggs 😂. Thanks for refreshing video. I will get my dog a doggy hut to attach to my bike 🚴 😊!
Another great vid! Thank you! I’ve driven and ridden (motorcycle) those same roads - as well as the old highway (at 10:14) on the other side of the lake. Looking forward to pedal power to ride it this summer. I’m very fortunate to live a few hours away from those majestic mountains.
you are actually such a badass for this!!
I enjoyed your video. I found it inspiring and have wanted to do a bike packing trip myself for the last few years. I hope that this comes together this year.
What beautiful trails!!
thank you for all your effort, you are motivating me to be strong and your courage is amazing.
Your quads go craaaazy
Omg stop it u 🤭🥰
Watching from Adelaide Australia. Can't believe how crystal clear the water is there. Well done 👏
This is so cool of you jenna
We were there last summer and you are right we didn't get to see a lot of what you saw on your bike. I love Canmore and Banff and would love to go back
Planning on doing a 100 mile ride myself. Just gotta prepare all the gear and train for ride.
Really nice to see other folks enjoying the same hobbie 😄
Best of luck!!
nice ride, you guys are so lucky to have such a beautiful nature out there, cool biking paths. i envy you haha enjoy your time ✌
I love how you can make 23 minute video from a 2 day trip. I made a 1.5 hr video from a 17 day trip, then feel guilty when I see some guy make a 5,500km trip video at 1h lol. It's not the distance or the time... it's the adventure.
Definitely tough to decide what parts to keep or cut out! But I do love watching long videos of peoples adventures, even when they’re 1hr +
Awesome ride. Protect yourself from the sun. I used to wear long sleeve linen with a collar, it can be dipped in that stream and it's nicer for going into public spaces too. I wish I could do that ride so much.
I did most of that route earlier this year while riding tgt across Canada. Did you get the weird optical illusion the mountains cause where you think you're riding down hill. Then you wonder why it's this such hard work? Then you look behind you and realize you're actually climbing. I got that a few times on the highway on the way to Canmore. Great video! I need to take more b roll
Yes hahah I didn’t actually realize how many climbs I was doing until my way home and realized it was all downhill 🤣
@jennalexiskoenig I'd have to go back a few months in my strava activity to find the exact numbers but it actually goes up and down a decent amount with overall more up from Calgary to Canmore.
The gdmbr from Banff to elko is amazing and not too difficult in terms of technical off road riding if you've caught the bikepacking bug and want to do a longer trip. Elk pass is a hell of a climb though.
@@toolaholicsanonymous I’ll definitely look into it! I’ve got a gravel bike but I haven’t ridden it off of the concrete for long stretches yet, might invest in some bigger tires and try it out 😁
Unbelievable human strength she has. Two thumbs up. Glad to see a fellow Albertans..
Oh boy fililpino cup cake. Mabuhay!
Hi Jenna, you're strong women! 💪 Keep making good content like this.
6:25, this is what i tell myself when i am tired during long rides...just keep peddling and it always gets me through. Great video btw, Canada looks beautiful.
u r so cool pls keep making videos
Thankyou cutie♥️ I’m trying to be regular with it and get outdoors a lot this winter too
Such an amazing journey! You are beautiful inside and out.
What a lovely, calming, and placid documentary of your travels.
I agree, Jenna is a fit beast and Canada is so beautiful. Thanks Jen for sharing your amazing experience.🥰
Bravo Jenna! I like to ride from the Canmore information Centre to the Banff dam and back to the Info centre. Too bad the old trail along the south shore of the Bow got washed out in the 2013 great flood. That would have been a great ride to do. Congrats! Job well done. Ride for your life! Tim from Calgary.
I loved that little charming town your friend lived in. Seemed like it was out of a storybook. Gonna put it on my bucket list to visit 😊
Canmore is great! And far less touristy than Banff, so it is typically much quieter (even though it's so closeby)
Beautiful time of year. You may have posted the date when this shot but I was probably distracted (early summer?). I need to return I a warmer season. My last trip to Banff saw me returning to the states in a wheel chair. Stayed in Banff for a week long ski trip. Went to Lake Louise to ski for the day and crashed and burned. I was wheelchair bound the rest of the trip (5 days). Don’t ski anymore but I do cycle a bunch now. Cheers!
at least you returned with a story to tell😭 and yes this was in July I believe. Definitely visit banff/canmore area in the summer if you ever get the chance! So many hiking opportunities on top of cycling and kayaking etc
That was so awesome, thanks for the inspiration. Actually made me cry. The free spirit and energy is beautiful. I miss road trips thru Banff and to ride a bike solo on a adventure like that I can only dream. I wish they had those legacy bike paths everywhere. I'm 50 now but I can't wait to get my new bike and go haha! I miss adventure so much. I miss my daughters too and you remind me of them, the energy and strong will, love it!
Beautiful part of the world, very relaxing video to watch! Thanks.
😁♥️
Amazing nature. Thank you for uploading your adventure.
C'est magnifique ! Un sentiment de liberté, mais surtout...celui de vivre !! Merci pour ça 🤲..
Great~! Thank you for showing the feeling of riding a bicycle and the beautiful scenery
Canmore is such a pretty town. Nice work cycling with runners on.
I rode Banff - Calgary in 2017 as a dessert after the GDMBR and I took 1A from Canmore to Cochrane, which was a fairly quiet road and after Cochrane I took 22, 567 and 772 into the city. I would never consider taking 1A between Cochrane and Calgary (four lane) let alone Highway 1, even with a wide shoulder. The mere speed of passing cars is unnerving. Nice video by the way!
Being from YYC and a cyclist myself, was amazing seeing your journey. Glad you enjoyed the trip :)
Highway miles are just the absolutely worst. I'll go twice as far to avoid them. Looking at that route I would've totally opted for 1A but geez, more power to you for rocking that!
Your friend is the sweetest! Great job girly! you should feel extremely proud of your self!
Beautiful place indeed! Thanks Jenna for sharing this!
I remember that beautiful prairie sky ! mostly the Saskatchewan side, but also on the way to Canmore and Banff.
New subscriber 🙌 This is the kind of content I love ,true relaxing in this tiring world.
@@leah9092 Thankyou, I really appreciate it ♥️🥹
Super awesome ride! Beautiful country too! That part of Canada is so pretty, and what a cozy town there in Canmore, love it.
I took an amazing 300 km bike ride over 3 days when I was studying abroad in Japan going from Chiba to Gunma to visit an onsen during Golden Week and it was such a highlight of my whole time there. I've wanted to do it again every since and only now, 6 years later, am I getting into biking again and planning to do some cross country trips. Very inspiring!
That’s really beautiful country for a bike ride. it makes it all worth while.
As much as we may dislike traffic zooming by us the venturi effect they create is super nice and makes for a great little boost.
Thank you for sharing this amazing video.
No. I would rather ride in monster headwind all day than spend 5 minutes along a highway. One distracted driver and you're dead, every summer I hear of at least one bicycle tourist being killed in Newfoundland on the highway. I don't need a wind boost that bad.
Cool ride, video quality is very smooth, rare thing actually, that's why really nature immersive. And nice bike, I ride the same model and color, one of my best investments in myself.
I'm in Houston, TX, used to go to Edmonton area quite often due to work, been to Jasper/Banff many many times, envy you get to take the scenic route and the gut to do so, I would do the same if I live in Calgary, so nice to be young, congrats!
You are respectful and amazing.
We encourage safety and fun.
Fighting!!(Korean-english cheering) from Korea
I like to do loops beyond the urban sprawl - wearing a 3rd eye mirror attachment to my shades for me is an indispensable necessity for safety and comfort. Take a peek and sweep behind for any threats coming behind- it allows me to go more safely around potholes and broken shoulders with less risk of getting hit. And you should try to wear proper cycling glasses too- damage from UV rays accumulates and you dont want to have to deal with cataracts later on.
Safe travels there young lady. Cheers!
Thanks for the advice! This video was taken early this past summer and I have since gotten proper sunglasses just for cycling haha. Slowly but surely upgrading my gear as I go! A mirror is something I have on the list as well, Was actually looking at the little side mirrors that attatch to the bike itself but I will definitely look into the 3rd eye mirror, thanks for the tip 😁
After watching your Iceland videos , waiting for something similar . I really enjoyed the views of Iceland . And your honest dialogue is what I enjoy .
Jenna I been watching you since your diy how to bleach your own hair blonde days…so cool to grow up alongside you and see you and mollie still together. Sending much love ❤
1st video i've watched of yours, came up on TH-cam. glad i clicked on it. good cycling story and video. Banff looks really nice.
Wow, We have been thinking about Whistler to Calgary in a car. You took it to another level. Great work. Awesome video. After seeing this, we have to go.
What a beautiful ride! Motivating too! Really want to try something longer distance this winter break (well, summer down under)
You should! best of luck on your adventure
Just saw your video today, you inspire me to do bike packing in my country
Thanks for this
And i love the places that you've visited especially going to banff.
🎉well done, you did it! That highway looked pretty brutal. I'd have gone with the two lane option but that is me.
I hear you! This was my first taste at a mini “tour” and I’ve done some longer rides since and looking back there are a lot of things I would do differently! And Thankyou lol the highway really was brutal 😭
Excellent job! Well Done! I need to get back home and ride that route, it looks gorgeous! I have friends and family in Calgary and oddly enough Canmore and Banff. I live in Miami now, and tried a 4 day bike packing trip, but had to bail midway thru the second day. I had tube failures. My first tube had the valve core come out, and wouldn't stay back in. Every time I pumped up the tyre, it would shoot back out like a bullet. My second spare tube had the wrong valve length, and I couldn't pump it up, as it never really came out of the rims. That was my fault. I had gotten new wheels, and didn't check that the tubes I had would fit the new rims. Sigh. Will try again in a few months, Maybe Christmas break?
Not sure if riding the shoulder of the highway was brave or foolhardy but hey! The lady done good!
The towns look fine, I used to live in NW Ontario and never travelled west of Winnipeg so this was new to me.
Glad they left the old pavement in place for the Legacy Trail - much safer. Before I retired I was a highway engineer and built some of the UK's National Cycle Network - SO hard to squeeze bike routes in over here but, Canada - you got the space so use it! 😉
Take care, see you in your next adventure
Such a beautiful video. Me and my daughter watched this together. Thank you. ❤
