Pro tip for anyone looking to do this in the future: there’s a seperate paved bike path from the end of hwy 93 that crosses hwy 1 and leads to Lake Louise. It’s not signposted at all, but you can find it on the left side of the road just after you pass the park gates on your way into Louise. Getting caught in a snowstorm on the parkway is a special experience, as long as you can find a place to warm up afterwards! The descent down Sunwapta must’ve been a cold one. The bow valley parkway is an excellent victory lap for any Bow Valley tour, everyone should give it a shot sometime. Love the way you’re sharing Southern Alberta cycling with the world! What’s the next route? Everyone talks about the Golden triangle (Louise-Golden-Radium and return) but my favourite is the Silver Triangle out of Nelson. Small towns, friendly people and lots of gorgeous lake swimming!

I went to the Columbia Icefields in the 70s, as a child. The Athabasca Glacier was one of the biggest. It is stunning to see how much of it has regressed. Practically the entire foreground of the shot of the icefields (7:21) used to be covered in ice and snow, such that it looked like ice was flowing down into the valley. In some sections you could walk up to the ice and it was over 10 feet thick. Now, there is just a sprinkling of snow on the mountain tops.

Another amazing video. I rode the Bow Valley Parkway in September when it was closed a few years ago. Rode it again in June this year and saw way more wildlife. It is such a beautiful ride and agree that the freedom when it is closed to cars is exhilarating.

Canada sure has very beautiful mountain scenes, and crazy weather too, from snow in the summer to rain to sun, and probably everything in between. Riding in the rain is terrible, just like hiking in the rain. I would move my non-winter tent into the shelter too if that was me. It is nice to have good company on a frigid, stormy trip. Definitely replace the rack before it completely gives out, which will probably happen on the next big, heavy trip. Since you are not too far from Banff, some day maybe you can just keep riding on down South on the Great Divide Trail.
I think you might be on to something; socks and crocs might be the best combo for a bikepacking trip - no need to carry an extra pair of shoes lol, and Im not worried if they get wet. Although, I'm not too sure how comfy they are on such a long trek/ride. Love the videos, keep thriving!
That’s exactly what I’m saying! Had I known it was snowing I might have worn something with less holes- but in normal circumstances crocs are my go-to for those reasons haha
@@jennalexisko Yeah only thing that sucks about wearing crocs for backpacking is when you have to go through the misery of wearing wet socks throughout your day - whenever it's raining/snowing.
Yep, any kind of sandal or flip flop is awesome. When you're done riding for the day you can switch to them while your socks and shoes air out, and if you have to cross a creek you can switch over and keep your shoes dry.
Lovely video and brings back memories, …though I think I left Jasper at 2am and made it to Lake Louise with plenty of daylight left, so I was focused mostly on riding and constant “wow” views. I do remember that long descent! Hope the Jasper-area fires are not going to make it difficult for people who want to do this same trip in coming months or next year. 😢
ICefields Parkway is sooo beautiful, have been there august last year with exactly the oposite wather, 30° heat and smoke everywhere from the wild fires. Not sure what I would prefer though, the views you show in the video look amazing, just not the right weather for cycling ^^
Nice Job Jenna. I did this last September. I stopped in Lake Louise. Wish I’d continued to Canmore, which was the original plan. I agree. That would have been the best part of the tour. Interesting note about the hostel at Beauty Ck and Hilda Ck. If you’re a cyclist they won’t turn you away. (Had some apprehension about getting available camp site.) I camped in that same RV campground in a site reserved for the park serves. I have a couple of questions. Did you and Jet make campsite reservation before you your trip? And how did you and Jet handle parking your vehicle in Canmore? Lastly, nice job on your Iceland tour. That was hardcore. Best. Peter

The first two campsights we stayed at (mount kerkeslin and Colombia Icefields) were first come first serve and we just got lucky with the RV Park (it was reservation only but they happened to have open spots that day) because we were planning on staying at waterfowl lakes but that was closed! And for lake Louise we did have to book a bit in advance I think that one fills up quickly! And as for Canmore, the original plan was to leave our car at my friends place there but she ended up driving us home (sorry that’s probably not too helpful lol) but if we had the time I probably would have just biked all the way home to Calgary!
@@jennalexiskoLake Louise campground was the best. I got in on a cancellation. Those showers blew my mind. 😄 On the parking, I checked around. Someone suggested storage facilities, but there was no room. I just left my van at the whistler campground. The Park Service called me four days into my tour to confirm I wasn’t a lost hiker. The other campers were concerned because the hadn’t see movement for a couple of days. I love Canada for that. Best wishes on your next adventure Jenna. Keep it up.

It’s the specialized diverge e5! Admittedly I also felt very overwhelmed trying to buy my first “real” bike but I settled on this one because it seemed to be a good quality hybrid bike that was roughly in my budget ! I’ve ridden it on tons of road and gravel trips since and don’t have too many complaints if any :) I do sometimes wish I had a mountain bike at times so I guess it just depends on the riding you like to do?
I just want to highlight how difficult it is to film yourself while cycling, so major props to you for making such beautiful videos! May I ask what camera gear you bring with you? I also hope to make videos about my bike trips but I don’t know where to start

@@Chester_Roxas I think all of our sites were first come first serve except for the lake Louise campground which we had to book a bit in advance! (The rv park we stayed at on the third day technically required booking too but we were planning to stay at a different site that ended up being closed and we were lucky enough there was open spots)

Hi! Most of my videos are made near my home/in my own country but when I did travel to Iceland I brought my bike with me on the plane!

Been planning to do this route with my wife. Was wondering, did you guys camp at first come first serve sites? Or did y'all book like a year in advance and just plan the biking around that date? Thanks! We love your videos!🫶🏼
@@Chester_Roxas I think all of our sites were first come first serve except for the lake Louise campground which we had to book a bit in advance! (The rv park we stayed at on the third day technically required booking too but we were planning to stay at a different site that ended up being closed and we were lucky enough there was open spots)
I want to get into bike packing but don't know what kind of bike is best for this. Would you be interested in doing a video on your equipment?
