@@jlparcerisathe seat doesn't matter, whether it's a cheaper, more comfy or whatever seat, get cycling pants. There are reasons for them, search it up
@@jlparcerisa bad tip. A different saddle may very well be an alternative fix but certainly not cheaper and going bigger isn't always a solution either. Women need a wider saddle than men due to pelvic bone structure, the more upright your seating position the wider the saddle should be as well. Just going bigger/wider may actually cause more issues (or it may fix them, but it depends on the underlying cause... it's not the solution every time). That said, not everyone needs padded shorts. But if padded shorts worked for makariespe, then it worked (probably just growing pains.. it's only been a month).
As a guy who's been cycling competitively for 6 years, I loved your video: it shows that anyone looking to get into cycling should prioritise having fun at first!
It can take time before it becomes fun, too, so making the experience as easy and comfortable as possible really helps. I spent a good 6 months cycling every day before I really started enjoying myself!
I jumped on a bike 13 years ago, fell in love with it in every way, and have been a competitive road cyclist ever since. I enjoyed seeing her documented journey-especially the rookie chain tattoo we've all gotten. Loved it!
I really appreciate that this "doing something for 30 days" video also includes rest days! It gives a much more realistic approach to someone actually starting to learn a new skill, rather than someone doing a crash exercise routine and then stopping when the 30 days is up because they overdid it. Really inspiring!
I commute to work by bicycle every day. In the morning the fresh air wakes you up and in the evening you can clear your head from work stuff. It's incredible.
I did a 24 mile roundtrip commute in NYC in my twenties. What you said is facts. Even crossing the queensborough bridge at 730am in a snow storm was fun. Stupid, but fun. Had some drifting down the gradient with not much fencing. Cycling is amazing.
I'm a 63 year old cyclist and seeing this video made me smile. Living in Kansas, I'm both a roadie and a gravel grinder. So far this year I have put in 4,100 miles and I still work a full time job. You will soon get to a point where 20 mile rides are pretty much just a warmup. Even though I have ridden for decades there is one thing that still is painful...100 mile rides. Between the physical pain and mental demons that come with a century ride, it is the ultimate commitment of the love you will habe for cycling. Enjoy yourself and I'm very proud of you.
Upper back pain can be bike fit related too. Seat too high, or seat too far back, reach on the handlebars can do it, etc. Next time you get a chance to drop by one of those bike shops they can help you trouble shoot some quick fixes. Whatever it takes to get people on, and keep people on bikes. Welcome and congrats!
Also may need a stem change to a shorter stem. Or, she's putting her feet on the pedals wrong, or the foot is flexing too much through the pedal stroke. A set of clipless pedals and some bike shoes (either road, or mtb spd... both can be found on fb marketplace in good condition. I've bought several for $20 each in my size) will help with that by giving good rigid support and the cleat when properly positioned (look up videos on yt. Ball of foot should be over the spindle, not behind it). And adjust tension so it's very easy to clip out. Clipless pedals have made cycling for distances so much more comfortable for me.
I seriously second the motion on a bike fit. There are so many adjustments that can be made to make you more comfortably. Additionally, as a woman it can be extremely difficult to find a bike seat that suits your under carriage. A bike fit can help determine your seat pressure points and make recommendations. Padded shorts help but they don’t fix a poorly matched seat. You don’t know me and I don’t know you but trust me when I say it made a huge difference in my ability to ride.
I always did the a home/ with a friend bike fit. My fit was close. I couldn't believe the difference a professional bike fit made. No big changes, just little ones that made everything click.
Seat position up/down and fore/aft is nearly 100% getting the lower body in the right postion, back pain would be addressed by the handle bars, stack height, stem reach.
“But that’s me out here, concerned about what other people will think of me rather than doing what makes me comfortable. So, That’s a me problem for sure.” And “We can fix it, I’m just in pain.” Feeling so validated and inspired!
i sold bikes for a while, and i would have to tell people so many times -- these things all exist for reasons, do the things that make sense for you personally not what you think is most fashionable or following the rules. don't give a damn what others think, your comfort and fun is more important.
I very much appreciate this video as a professional bike mechanic and avid cyclist enjoy seeing other people finding joy in something I love and also having a good experience getting into cycling as a hobby. I'm super glad that the people at the bike shops you went to were very nice because that doesn't always happen and not everyone in the community is as welcoming as one would hope. I would also like to add that especially for people who are non-competitive cyclists like yourself that prioritizing your comfort is the best way to have a good experience and usually a faster experience while riding a bike. because if you're not comfortable, you're not going to want to go fast.
Very wholesome video! As an avid cyclist, it's a good reminder that getting into cycling can feel overwhelming. So much information - and sometimes also some gatekeeping. Loved how you pushed through in baby steps.
Feeling like you don’t deserve something because you’re not a professional at something is so real. I relate so hard to that. Let’s just stop caring about what other people think 🙌🏻
i really try to drive this home selling bikes. please never care what people think. ride what makes YOU happy. roadies especially can be a judgmental bunch. always remember that "the rules" are a joke making fun of them, not guidelines for how to play bikes. but at the same time, some of what they do, they do for very real reasons that make sense. it can be a struggle for new cyclists to figure out what's a fashion thing, and what's a function thing.
As a cyclist for over 20 years I loved this video. I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself, your video cracked me up. Keep it up and don’t worry about all the cycling trends that come and go, you do you!
Not so much a video about becoming a cyclist, more an excellent video about the need for setting goals and working the plan to achieve them! Nice work! I feel inspired…
I usually don’t comment on videos but I believe this deserves one for sure. Your script pacing is really good and the story telling itself is immaculate. Can’t wait to see more videos from you!!
Congrats on your transition to "I actually like biking"! The padded shorts are a must. The gravel bike is so practical. Being realistic with your plan and being patient and kind to yourself is the topping on the cake. Enjoy!
As a fellow cyclist, welcome to the club! It’s awesome and fun. The more people on bikes the better. Couple of tips I wish someone told me when I started. (You already figured out the bike shorts thing so good job!). you can never have enough water or snacks when you’re biking. Take more than you think you need. Like shoes, bike seats can be the wrong shape for your butt. Your local bike shop can fit you for a seat that will fit you best. Most will even have a 30 day trial period with no question returns. Last thing, take care of your bike and it will take care of you. Get it serviced by a good shop regularly. Hope to see you on the road!
I remember I went for 110km cycle when I was younger ….after 55km my legs were dead and we were going to call my friends dad….ate some snacks and managed to cycle home some how 20mins later. Also Tires are the biggest and easiest change to make on a bike
She is absolutely adorable. So positive, so willing to try new things and so thankful for the highlight moments and the company of friends (and family).
Holy crap! This is the happiest I've been after watching a cycling video! I've been riding for the better part of 30 years now. Your video reminded me of all the happy "firsts" on a bike...my first ride with a group, first ride to a coffee shop, first century, and so on. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Cycling is definitely the best when you're out with your friends. It's such a big difference just having one person with you out on a ride, the memories, laughs and smiles always make me get back on the saddle and ride. Welcome to cycling!
So much insight in one video. I speak from decades of serious cycling. So many barriers broken through and you stuck it out. Keep going and thanks for documenting the journey.
This video was just what I needed and didn't know it! I've been a pretty die hard cyclist/mountain biker for the last 10 yrs and out of nowhere this year I'm just barely getting out to ride... Feeling really inspired to get out for a spin in the morning now! Hope cycling brings you many years of joy :)
Someone once said to me “I cycle home from work so when I come home I don’t kick the dog” as in it stops me from bringing my stress of work back to my family. That stuck with me now I cycle everyday to and from work. It puts me in a much less stressed mood and mentally so much happier. Cycling is so great and you are so sweet!
Cutest first biking experience I've ever seen! As a 14 year bike mechanic! I'm happy you had a good experience at bike shops, too much info can be overwhelming! Congratulations on achieving your biking dreams! 🎉
Not sure if "cute" is the right word for me. This shows determination and stamina and I find that kinda badass, even if the presentation is kinda humble and cute.
Cycling is amazing. It takes time to get used to and it is expensive to start, but the doors it opens for fitness, adventures, and time with friends is 100% worth it.
Nah not that expensive. I only till about a month ago was cycling on a 13 year old rust bucket that my dad bought my brother and the brakes and chain fell off or broke alot. The only expense is the bike which you can get for 250-350 quid. My current bike is 410 quid (530 dollar)
@@my_way930 well, it can be very expensive if you're like me and a lot of other cyclists and want a fast, light, and reliable modern bike to put many thousands of miles on. I spent $4000 on mine nearly 4 years ago, but have 23k miles on it so far.
FYI, padded or not, if you get a seat that is properly fitted for you, meaning your "sit bones" are exactly where they need to be, you will find A LOT of comfort in your rides.
I jumped on a bike 13 years ago, fell in love with it in every way, and have been a competitive road cyclist ever since. I enjoyed seeing her documented journey-especially the rookie chain tattoo we've all gotten. Loved it!
Im about 3months ahead of you on my bike journey and i can confirm every part of this video is exactly how it happened for me. like exactly this im not joking. Something that I learned after a few long rides is that you can basically keep going forever if you give yourself time to rest and get your heartrate down. I thought it was a sign of weakness to take a rest but it's really just a way to extend your ride. Something about biking that is different from running or hiking etc is that if you stop for a second, when you get going again you get a second wind from the literal wind cooling you down. It's awesome
I LOVE cycling! My whole family loves it. We go to school, work, hobbies by bike. On weekends we get out the road or gravel bikes and go on tours. My son learnt to ride a bike at 4 years. It’s part of our culture!
Yes! Biking as primary transportation is such an important part of my life. You never have to worry about finding the time or motivation for a ride when it's just a natural part of your day!
Hi Makari. I took up cycling during the pandemic and average about 120miles a week on the bike. This is the first of your videos I've seen and I am very impressed by your presenting and filming style. Also want to commend you on the very sensible approach you took to starting your cycling journey - doing proper research and not splurging huge piles of cash all at once. Love that you added weight training and proper recovery to your regime from day 1. I wish you thousands more miles of safe, happy cycling ❤
I lived in your neck of the woods for 5 years, I recognize and used to ride many of the same places with my kids, In fact, "Old Farmer Roy" is not far from my home at the time... Well done for sticking with it!
Long-time cyclist here, five bikes, two bike tattoos, and I LOVE this video! I hope you are always able to find friends to accompany you on your two-wheeled journeys. I also hope you'll keep us updated on future rides with those friends! Best wishes!
Young lady, thank you so much for your candid journey. I'm pushing 60, been riding on and off most of my life, and I still felt some of your newfound joy in this amazing sport! Keep riding, and please, keep "journaling" on TH-cam and let us know how you get on with cycling. Cheers!
I'm 52 and usually a daily rider as well. We are out here and we are everywhere. Maybe she can get a biking buddy too which helps. I bike alone mostly.
I run a pre-owned bike shop in Australia, and meeting people like you (getting into cycling) is literally my favourite thing in the world. This was a great video
You're a youtuber of genius, I feel like haven't watched a video without fast-forwarding in a while and I watched this video from the beginning to the ending, lovely!
A few months back, I started biking and picked up my first gravel bike for $250 at Walmart. I ride every day, not for exercise, but simply to enjoy the fresh air and take in beautiful sights. This approach keeps me motivated to ride daily, as it’s all about having fun for me.
I love it when I find a youtuber I like. I am a biker that has not been biking. All this rain has kept me out of the woods. My old mountain bike makes a good gravel bike to ride on the back dirt roads. You have got me motivated, thanks. See you out there.
This is so incredibly cute and oh so relatable. Thank you once again for putting yourself out there Makari. You definitely inspire me to do so as well. And also, thank you so much for buying bike shorts. I was wincing watching you do without. Now, off to remind myself that I should probably buy myself a bike that I don't hate...
Makari, you should be proud of yourself. Thanks for doing such a great vlog of you cycling experience. I have been riding seriously since 2007 and your video was perfect for someone that wants to start. Hopefully you will continue your adventures and be a life long cyclist. It truly is the best form of stress relief and joy.
Everyone that is thinking of getting into cycling should watch this video. Try to find a club with a beginners group. It will help a ton. Keep going and have fun!
Thank you! I love cycling and for me it's almost always a community event. During the summer we host a group ride on Wednesday nights that finish with "deck dinner" on our deck with friends (family really). We just came back from 1.5 weeks out in Colorado with our bike friends (family) for the 10th year in a row. It's so powerful for our mental strength and health. Keep riding and doing what you like.
Congratulations! That smile at the end was worth it. I started cycling 10 years ago with purpose (and with a group). It was one of the best things I've ever done. I learned great things happen when you show up. Way to go and ride safe!
1:07 throughout that whole shot I was thinking "she has to get back up eventually to grab the camera", glad the suspense actually payed off. Liked and subscribed.
Love how you've share your journey and the little wins along the way. Well done and keep it going! One thing I would say about the soreness is acknowledging that like the bike being different for everyone, a seat (all contact points with the bike) shouldn't be uncomfortable and are individual. We all different and our bodies have different widths of 'sit bones' and you may find it's too thin and you're putting pressure on areas between the bones, or too wide. A seat that works well for someone might not work well for the next person. Get yourself into a bike shop and ask them which seat they would recommend based on measuring your sit bones and ask if you can try out a couple to see what works for you :)
I started cycling last year after going out for a few rides with my dad, who is an intermediate cyclist, little bit of context me and my dad were not always close but since we started cycling together it created a bond that im thankfull for. Never regret picking up the hobby and always enjoying the good times with your fellow cyclists they will push you to always be better and do more! Enjoy every moment and be safe! 🇿🇦
Bravo on attaining your goal!!! The secret to very long rides is food/calories while you’re riding, not just when you get to your destination. You should continue making cycling videos; thank you for your lovely sense of humour.
As a cyclist I loved this video. I hope you keep at it. I’ve been riding for 4 years now. This video has been a massive inspiration to me the last month and made remember why I started cycling. This has been inspiration for my latest video and telling my story. so thank you Makari
This is so honest and real. I started cycling in 2019, not knowing anything or where to start. I bought a used ride on Offer Up and learned so much. I now ride ultra distance races, I have 4 bikes I ride on the regular, rebuild and sell bikes and I help friends and family with their bike needs and maintenance. I'm addicted and im enjoying every bit of it.
Part of the back pain might be from your bike not being adjusted for you! I’d consider getting a bike fit from a local bike shop! They can be expensive, but it solved all the back pain and numb hand issues I had when I first started.
Wearing a backpack doesn't help either. I did that when I first started cycling. Didn't last long because I got tired of having a sweaty back after each ride and it does wear you on long rides.
It will likely help the butt pain problem too. Once you have the saddle height, tilt and fore-aft set your pelvis doesnt move much so your butt pain reduces a lot
i got my cyclocross bike (think gravel, but racier) a few years back, before gravel really hit it big. EVERY shop i went to thought i was nuts. i told them i wanted to commute on it, and wanted a road bike i could treat like a mountain bike, and they all tried to sell me hybrids. now, it's a real niche. but it should be more common. most people just don't need 28mm tires and 50/34 gearing. on my 40mm and 46-11, i hit 35 mph before spinning out. that's fast enough. yes, i work harder on group rides, but riding alone or with friends, i'm a lot more comfortable, and i have a bike that lets me take less than ideal roads or the occasional path through the woods. gravel is the way.
Or just an endurance geometry road bike. The sleek, sexy racing bikes are NOT for the common person, but for those 130lb, 23 yr old professional racing cyclists who can handle pain for a few more watts per kilo power gain.
I recommend that beginners avoid actually riding on gravel. Way too easy to crash and get a nasty injury, until after you've developed some bike handling skills.
@@arachnophilia427 The problem with a cyclocross bike is that the bottom bracket is put quite high to keep it clear of large stones. That means that under normal conditions you just have a bike that's unstable because the centre of gravity is high. OK if you're not going fast down hill, I suppose.
Welcome to the world of cycling! As a life long cyclist, this was really cool to watch. Enjoy it as it only gets better and there are so many cool places to visit when on a bike!!!
Absolutely loved this journey of yours. I already knew how it would end -- with a love for riding -- when it started, and seeing you go through the motions of learning, growing, gaining confidence and discovering how rewarding, fun, and fulfilling cycling can be was an absolute joy!
Loved the video. I wasn't sure what to expect other than hoping for something that might get my partner to join me on a ride. I am still not sure she will be convinced but having ridden a bike for over fifty years this was a joy to watch. Makari, you are a hoot. Welcome to the cycling community. You have perfectly encapsulated the sheer joy of cycling - coffee stops, uninterrupted thinking time, the occasional sore butt to think about and time spent with friends. It may have only ridden for thirty days but you nailed it, Awesome job.
Just wanna say I used to work in a bike shop and people like you were my favourite customers. I loved talking to total newbies and helping them get everything they needed it was always so exciting for me. I know it can be intimidating but I hope no one feels scared to go into a bike shop for the first time
This was such a sweet video! I miss biking - I also used to have completely the wrong bike for long rides, it was a teenager-sized mountain bike that I'd take out on like 20 mile rides 😂
This video came right when I needed it. I just fixed my old, old bike and I completely understand the overwhelm of the internet having all the answers and none at the same time. I decided this year that I want to learn how to ride so that I can be better to the environment and eventually maybe sell my car and quit driving so I can save money. However, I live in Southern California which is easier said than done and drivers hate bike riders here, but our public transport has been slowly improving and I live in a more bike-able and walkable area now. This gave me a lot of hope because I've thought I don't really like biking as well and seeing that you have to customize and problem-solve the experience made me feel less worries, although I'll be doing it with very limited funds and an olllddd bike. I felt silly because I know people who LOVE biking and I always felt mild about it or had a lot of pain. It was good to watch this and feel less alone in the shared worries. I hope all of us become the hot bikers who make coffee stops we want to be.
OH my god! I just discovered your channel and I am really happy I did. You're awesome! Videos are great, editing is amazing, rythm, music, info, jokes, everything. So wholesome, motivating, I was smiling all the way through. I really love your happiness and how you make people just SMILE. You know when you see people in videos that are "too happy" you doubt they are like that IRL and you imagine themselves smiling to the camera and immediately after just frown? I really think you ARE that happy and you're always smiling for real. Love it! Keep it up.
My love for cycling came unexpectedly and suddenly, but once this love's arrow has hit me, I can't stop... I had a motorcycle accident while riding a motorcycle off-road in the Croatian mountains. Consequently, knee surgery and rehabilitation. My Rehabilitator had no strength for me anymore because I couldn't focus on the exercises I was doing, not even on the number of repetitions - after a while I didn't know which repetition/set it was... Since he is a triathlete, he started trying to get me into cycling. He showed Zwift and it started. Today it is over 7 months since knee surgery and I have already traveled over 7,000. km and I am sure of one thing, it is true love 🥰 PS. Thank you to the YT algorithms for your video and channel, it's great and you've got it 😊 (with all due respect 😇)
Whoa, the power of the algorithm is real ... TH-cam suggests this video to me and it turns out to not only be my hometown (I moved away 20 years ago), but it even features the bike shop where I had my first job (shout out, Russ Hay's). Great fun. Welcome to cycling!
I LOVE this. I decided to get into cycling, bought a bike for £150 and then my dad planned us a bike packing trip that I did NO TRAINING for that was 3 days, 90km, 100km, 99km and it was an ENORMOUS shock to the system. But it really made me love cycling because I got to see so many wonderful places, and taught me a lot about what my body could do after a period of pretty debilitating anxiety. Congrats on your new bike and your new found cycling habits! I hope the bike and the roads treat you well!
Hi, what an awesome video. I'm a junior racing cyclist and I have a couple of tips for you to make cycling even more enjoyable. Use sunglasses: It can just be your normal sunglasses, nothing fancy but it protects things from going into your eyes. You have two different tires on your bike, you should go to your local bike shop and ask them to switch them out for a matching pair. Also a cycling jersey is very comfortable and you can store things like your phone or a spare tube(which you should have with you at all times in case of a puncture). They don't have to be super tight too, there are loose options as well. But the most important tip: enjoy riding and don't get intimidated by the "pros" , we're really nice people and are happy for every single person getting into cycling.
I love these tips! Still watching video but definitely get a nice pair of Cycling Bibs. They transformed my wife’s experience riding and she loves her gravel bike as well. Definitely wear sun glasses but also consider a pair of gloves. A bike fitting might seem over the top but can make a huge difference re upper back pain and well pain anywhere…LOL. Oh, and have fun!
Or just a saddle bag. It can carry the spare tube, levers, a multi-tool, and patch kit. And hand pump bolted to one of the bottle cage bolt pairs (like the seat tube). Or a CO2 inflator. Very easy to carry without needing a cycling jersey. I do wear a cycling jersey but mainly for the moisture wicking and breathability benefits (cotton t-shirts are AWFUL and I hate them when going for a long ride. So heavy, wet, and restrictive). I usually just put my phone in my cycling shorts cargo pocket on one of my thighs.
Yes I was wondering about the two different types of treads on her wheels and if that was a thing in the biking/cycling world that I don’t know much about!
@@SirBrass Yes of course, but I do find a cycling jersey to be a lot more comfortable and also it covers more of the skin than the shirts that she was wearing which is really good considering the amount of sun you're exposed to.
I see nothing wrong about having different tyres, of course most from the factory come with the exact same size/model on front and rear wheel, but at least on MTBs mixing isn't unusual, my Cube Hardtail had a Schwalbe Nobby Nic on the Front and Smart Sam on the rear, there are even some like the Schwalbe Eddy Current or Shredda that come in a front and a rear version or some even a tread geometry where the rotation direction for front wheel usage is inverted to rear wheel usage. The road bike I recently bought used had a Continental Grand Prix 4000S in the front and a Grand Prix (just Grand Prix) in the rear, both 23-622; switched to 28-622 Ultra Sport III last week.
Great storytelling! Just an important detail to remember: bikes (or frame sizes, really) are actually measured in Centimeters, not Inches as you stated at 4:24. So, the local bike shop folks likely recommended that you choose a small to medium frame (that is usually measured in centimeters). It’s unbelievably common for most non-riders to use the Imperial or American units, vs the more accurate and more commonly accepted European (or metric) measurements. So glad that you’re enjoying the wind in your hair, and “keeping the rubber-side down”, as the old saying goes! 😊
I started focusing on biking more this summer, so I feel your pain! Also, this is the first video of yours I've ever seen, and I love your style. You have such a nice mix of documentary and personal styles. I love the humor in your narration and direct-to-camera interludes. Nice work!
First, off you are an awesome content creator! Second, the splat sound you made collapsing on your yoga mat at the end of week one says everything you need to know about cycling lol. The ups and downs are so real. I am far older and managed to build up to doing a 564 mile ride across New York State, self doubt stops more people who should believe enough to try. Congratulations on making your first cycling goal!!!! Im going watch your cardio video next.
as a long time cycling, this is awesome! Congrats on sticking with it. It is fun to show a journey both the ups and downs! I would encourage anyone looking to get in to cycling to watch your video. - excellent guide on buying your first used bike!!!
Good on you, the first two or three weeks are the hardest, after that it mostly only get more enjoyable! Keep at it, cycling is an incredible form of self empowerment.
Loved the video! If I could have given myself some advise starting cycling I would change two things. 1st…buy the best bibshorts you can afford. 2nd….do a proper bike fit, not with a bike shop. But with a certified fysio. If I would have done both I would have saved so much pain I had for the first couple of years cycling.
Hi Makari, here's an idea for a future video: "I hung out with people born in ten different decades". You hang out for an hour or two, or chat with, or interview, or play with, someone born in the 2020's (a relative and/or with their parent present!), then someone born in the 2010's, the 2000's... all the way back to the 1930s. And then, in your own amazing upbeat style, you summarise what you learnt from them. How's about it? In the meantime, keep up the good work - single-handedly making the world a better place, filled with better, nicer, Makari-inspired people!
Pardon for the late reply, but what a splendid idea! One thing I would add though is that in her outros, she could acknowledge the viewers for watching and provide any words of affirmation. That way, this would generate more trust on her audience and truly, as you said, "make the world a better place". This is just a suggestion.
What a joyful and honest video about biking. I'm sure this helps a lot of people that think about cycling more, but who don't have a clue how to approach it. So thank you for your service to the cycling community. :) For your back pain you may consider to have your position on your bike checked. A proper bike fitting did wonders to my upper back!

Another reason to prefer the metric system. 🫣
@@SirBrass also may help to turn the stem arround if it is mounted downwards.
Seat position up/down and fore/aft is nearly 100% getting the lower body in the right postion, back pain would be addressed by the handle bars, stack height, stem reach.
“But that’s me out here, concerned about what other people will think of me rather than doing what makes me comfortable. So, That’s a me problem for sure.”
And
“We can fix it, I’m just in pain.”
Feeling so validated and inspired!
i sold bikes for a while, and i would have to tell people so many times -- these things all exist for reasons, do the things that make sense for you personally not what you think is most fashionable or following the rules. don't give a damn what others think, your comfort and fun is more important.
“ we are our worst enemy” comes to mind…
Ignore them
@@arachnophilia427 and maybe one day that thing will be fashionable or cool. And you will get watch it happen because you made it that.
No, Makari, you're not the problem. You're the shining light of TH-cam.
I concur, and may she continue to be that light in any future videos she uploads.
Did it all properly, going into a bike shop and being so direct and open prob made those peoples year. Love the energy.
Enjoy!
bell ... bell brand makes good padded seats .. target, walmart 😌👍
@@smithy1011 That would mean you cycled the 2nd half (55km) at 165kmh. You must have been pretty fit or found a portal or sumting 😁
@@kennycube5126 i think he meant that 20 minutes after the break they continued their ride
Emergency repair kit is also key! Don’t wait to be stranded to get one like I did 😂
@@ATLien51 Don't spoil my fun😁I take great pride in misinterpreting what peeps say. Although, the way this was worded I didn't have to try at all.
I find that nothing clears my mind like a bike ride, even only 20 minutes of intense riding clears the cobwebs.
My therapy 👍
Same and I tear streets up more lately because I'm trying to live healthier. Good rides to all and may your pedal never hit a curb or anything else.
This is called Cycletherapy!!

She is absolutely adorable. So positive, so willing to try new things and so thankful for the highlight moments and the company of friends (and family).
PRobably the best introduction to bicycling that I've ever seen. Love it. -- Long time cyclist
Holy crap! This is the happiest I've been after watching a cycling video!
I've been riding for the better part of 30 years now. Your video reminded me of all the happy "firsts" on a bike...my first ride with a group, first ride to a coffee shop, first century, and so on. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Totally agree! Such a genuine account of her learning journey. Definitely helpful for a lot of us in similar situation! Very motivating!!
I'm glad she didn't run into a snobbish shop. I've seen it before with bikes and guitars.
Yup!, I just srarted about 3 months ago and it was very expensive to get the equipment and fitment but overall well worth the investment! So much fun!
@@my_way930 well, it can be very expensive if you're like me and a lot of other cyclists and want a fast, light, and reliable modern bike to put many thousands of miles on. I spent $4000 on mine nearly 4 years ago, but have 23k miles on it so far.
@@cokebottles6919 ay fairs to you man I agree with your point
Absolutely doesn’t have to be expensive.
All of your videos are so well thought through and produced. It doesn't matter what the videos about I know it'll be good!
You pretty much summed up what cycling should be to most of us, friends, laughter, meeting new people and good times. Really nice video
AWESOME!! Thanks so very much for sharing your adventuresome journey, super excited you are a member of the cycling community!🙂
You earned a subscriber today! Had all the same experiences as you 7 years ago. Can’t wait to see more cycling content.
As a local - that bakery is so worth the bike ride. I have also done it and was exhausting but so worth it.
The donuts are so good! I love the apple fritters
Cycling on this channel - sounds like combo ive been waiting for
TH-cam algorithm landed me here. Worth every minute watching this 😊 good luck your cycling journey 🎉 cheers & stay safe riding on the roads
Me too! Isn't she a cutie???
I consider myself an experienced and accomplished cyclist - how you found and enjoyed your cycling journey was a breath of fresh air to me. Chapeau
One of the most heartfelt videos on biking. Welcome to the bike world.
I’m on this EXACT journey saving up for a bike right now! This video made me happy.
Yup, this! She should look into getting a frame bag :)
Plus one for a bike fit
A bike fit is the best money you can spend. They cost around $150 in my area for a simple fit.
It will likely help the butt pain problem too. Once you have the saddle height, tilt and fore-aft set your pelvis doesnt move much so your butt pain reduces a lot
I love this. A gravel bike is THE bike for most people looking to enjoy riding fast.
i got my cyclocross bike (think gravel, but racier) a few years back, before gravel really hit it big.
I think a hybrid bike is far better because you don't have the back destroying drop bar + long geometry combo.
Love your energy and willingness to try things that you may have not enjoyed in the past! I have been working on this personally myself.
I've been riding for 11 years and really enjoyed this video!! Those incremental gains go a long way 💨
You are the most kind and wholesome person on the whole internet, love ur content
I don't know this person, fist time coming across this channel but I'm so proud of them and they made me wanna pick up cycling now
This video came right when I needed it.
Thanks for sharing your journey into cycling, it put a smile on my face when you got to experience your first ride with a friend!
Well done! I'm a cyclist in your city and love that you're getting out on your bike too!
The character development in this video is amazing. This video is not just about biking AT ALL!
Love her learning adventures! So motivating in so many ways!
What an awesome video. Thanks Makari!!
Kudos! 😊❤🎉
If this video won't get people to give cycling a try just to see if they like it, nothing will. Wonderful!
Hey cyclist here, you did amazing everyone start at one point and theres no shame to that, welcome to our community
Perfect content! Just what I was looking for! Self improving!

Good on you, the first two or three weeks are the hardest, after that it mostly only get more enjoyable! Keep at it, cycling is an incredible form of self empowerment.
This was the 1st video of yours that i watched. Absolutely amazed at how emotional i became. Thanks for sharing
This is shaping up to be one of the greatest Saturdays of my life 🙌🏼
Loved the video!

I just stumbled across this video but watched it all the way through. Love the high spirits and attitude!
What a joyful and honest video about biking. I'm sure this helps a lot of people that think about cycling more, but who don't have a clue how to approach it. So thank you for your service to the cycling community. :)
For your back pain you may consider to have your position on your bike checked. A proper bike fitting did wonders to my upper back!
