  • A few years back I decided to compose a “classical style" piano sonata. By “classical style", I am talking late 18th/early 19th century. More specifically, I was thinking Beethoven. I had already composed a sonatina that is very Clementi in style, so it was time for the Big B. The first movement was the one that was closest to Beethoven in style. I will put a link at the bottom.
This was the Scherzo, which was a “little joke”. Deep down there is an almost minuet hidden, but you’d have to dig deep to find it. No, “little joke” describes it much better. I always really like it, almost as much as the scherzo to my sonata in c# minor. For some reason when I wrote it I thought of pirates...
    I hope you enjoy.

Nice and bouncy. Moves around like a rondo - or something. Some interesting time manipulations in there too. Good work Trent.

Thanks, David! In ways similar to a rondo. It is based, loosely, on the minuet form of ABA`, where A is minuet with an aba form and B is the trio with cdc' form, so there is a lot of repetition of that "a", which is similar to the rondo A that comes back over and over.

Yes indeed, some "bounciness" but also baroque-esque layers and configurations, tightness, and then some expansions. I know that sounds weird, but that's my take! Enjoyed it much! Thanks for sharing your gift.

Thanks, Doug! I did a lot of counterpoint in this, which may give it some baroque flavor. And then, it is loosely based on a minuet form, which, though used a lot in the classical period, came out of the baroque.

Thanks! I hope Howl likes it. As an aside, the big surge on this that I mentioned ended pretty much an hour after it started...
