  • OK, I’ll admit I spent much more time on the animation for this video than the music, but…
Quick overview in case the meaning isn’t clear: Each of us are just a speck on this Earth, which is just a speck in the solar system, which… on and on - the Universe is huge and we are a product of the process. And yet, we are all special - there is not another you, her, him or me in this enormous Universe. And we all share so, so very much on this fragile egg of a world, so much more than what we don’t share. Why do we let these teeny-tiny infinitesimal differences, more imagined than real, keep us apart? Why do we use these strange notions to justify violence?
OK, maybe talking supernovas and such didn’t put it across. But it was fun :)
Quick technical stuff - Mostly Prophet Rev 2, often doubled with a Pro-800. Poly D helps the bass and does the solo in the middle. The spacy intro is almost all Synclavier Regen, which also comes in during the solo. “Drums” is a cajon and there is a tambourine part. And my ugly voice.
As with a lot of my music, this is almost a demo instead of a finished song. I hope you still enjoy it and the animation!

I love the message in this song. It's timely and powerful. Why do I feel harpsichord? Whatever, love it! Your voice has some great moments. Keep going! You are on a unique track.

Thanks, Resa! Part of my problem is I get too impatient - if I spent a few weeks practicing the song, perhaps there would be more than a few places that shine ;) Harpsichord - I used a sound similar to an acoustic guitar with a very 80s synth sound (almost synth harpsichord) layered over the top. I played it like a keyboard, so it sounds like a keyboard (I have a video where I played it (minus the 80s synth sound) like a guitar, and it sounds almost like one). A plucked string keyboard? Harpsichord!

No worries about being excited! You're supposed to be excited. Like you say, you can always pick it up later. Whatever it is...I like that harpsichord sound. @@trentpmcd

You have the total package here. I very much enjoyed it. I did miss reading along with the lyric spelled out but that would have been distracting with the wonderful visuals. Maybe add them to the description next time? Great job on the music and animation... and I don't think your voice is at all ugly. It is YOU and you are just fine Trent. That is all that matters.
EDIT: Woops, I didn't see the transcript. Thanks for adding that.

Thanks! This was odd because I wrote the lyrics first, so spent less time on the music than anything. I did write out the strong bass line, but the rest is pretty much block chords. The animation was a lot of fun! I clicked into the place to add subtitles/transcript, but could figure out how to make it work so clicked out again. I guess it did work, but just took a while to fill in. The problem is that there over 300 words, not including the repeated chorus, and I wasn't sure if I could jam that into the description. I have a blog and am going to post lyrics there.

Let us know about the blog when you have it up. The transcript here is sort of broken. It pretty well butchered some parts of it. Kinda funny and like auto-correct on a mobile messaging phone. I look forward to reading your actual lyric. @@trentpmcd
