Thank you so much for this great video. My clutch recently started slipping and I did not have the money for a mechanic. I follow the instructions on this video and my bike is shifting great. Thank you
In a pinch I've done this on concrete on the side of the road. Not recommended but it got me home without having to pay for a couple hundred miles of towing.
I tried this on my Yamaha sr400, plus I grinded an old clutch, cut off the protrusions and added it to compensate for the worn out clutch basket... It works perfectly fine ....I am pleased
Wow ! I did this to my crotch rocket ( gsxr 600) and it worked . My bike would slip terribly I couldn't even ride it now it rides great . Awesome temporary fix until I get the money to replace the whole clutch !
You might be surprise how long the this fix works. I have had it work for several seasons on some bikes depending on how bad the cork plates where worn and who tied the springs where!
I'm glad you said this I was hesitant but I'll definitely try it now. My FZR1000's clutch was slipping pretty bad at full throttle, so I replaced the friction plates but not the steel plates. It still slips a little at full throttle especially above 60, so I'm gonna head to the hardware store tomorrow and pick up some sand paper if I don't have any 220 laying around.
Hell yeah, I just bought my first bike ever, 94 fzr 1000 and it's slipping a lot.... however it seems ok when the bike is cold but once it gets hot I can barely ride it... does it sound like the same problem? I'm going to try this anyhow. I'm a little nervous to tear it apart but I'm pretty mechanically inclined so we'll see
ya! it will would work for some time but i dont think it works long.,rough surface of plate shall act as a grinder for the fiber of clutch lining itself.
My 83 GS1100 was slipping at high rpm under full load and I did this and it seemed to fix it completely for now. There isnt much life left in my clutch as I saw today, but this will win me a few races until I can afford all new discs :) Thanks a ton. If it works with 100+ HP it should last a long while on smaller bikes with less torque if everything else checks out. I used permatex gasket maker "the right stuff" and just cleaned it well and let it cure. Seems to hold oil for now, im not so worried as ill be getting the gasket when I swap out the discs and never stray to far.
I will add I had a a hard time adjusting the clutch, still isn't quite where i'd like it but good 'nuff for the girls we date. Assuming its because of the worn components. Still, happy with the results. I'll report back when it starts slipping again.
I'm all about squeezing every mile I can out of old parts. Some parts can be impossible to get or very expensive. Sometimes its just "hey there is a big ride this weekend and I don't get paid till next week. As far as using permatex products I haven't had very good luck with the stuff for gasket sealer. I use 3M bond, yamabond4 or hondabond4. This stuff works great and doesn't leak on engine cases. I wouldn't use anything else. Here is a link to get some, it's not expensive. amzn.to/3LRfhz5
not motorcycle... but similar in concept/design and the clutch disk in this instance are insanely expensive. Any suggestions on where I can learn to remove and replace clutch friction material on these type disks?
The myth of the motorcycle slipping clutch ride! If you follow the "Slipping Clutch" crowd... you will ruin your clutch and have to replace it faster and could cost you injury or death. They had trouble years ago (I'm 74) with dry clutch burning out... why? Partial clutch engagement or taking to long to release the clutch and get it in gear. The fix... automatic transmission which does away with the clutch and uses vanes coupled by oil, (this is my short explanation for it). What did they do for the motorcycle clutch? They came up with putting oil soaked clutch plates in which called for a NEW fiber plate that would grip well enough to engage the transmission for the drive. Did this eliminate the burn problem? NO! It made it last a little longer but didn't eliminate the burning clutch problem. Now we have the MSF crowd advocating slipping your clutch to go through a row of seven cones in order to pass a test that shows you can ride slow. Who heard of such nonsense? A clutch that fails can cause you to lose your life in certain situations. Now we have the police rodeo bunch to show you how they can do a real circus act by slipping the clutch and not only that they do it a 1400 - 1800 rpm! Of course, they get their ride from tax money and have mechanics to replace the clutch on a schedule... using... Yes, you guessed it... tax money to pay for it!
I wanna try this,. My clutch i think slipping specially when engaging first gear,. Many brand of MC oil i tried because i was thinking that synthetic oil is the reason of slipping, but nothing change, my clutch lining and spring is brand new, so probably that is the problem, thanks,
Synthetic oil will make the clutch slip in older bikes, it depends on if the manufacture designed it for that type of oil. Make sure that your clutch is correctly assembled and adjusted. I have had to repair several bikes bike that had the pressure plate incorrectly assembled. If yours is slipping in first that could be the case.
Spring free length 37.9mm service limit 34.7, Cork plate thickness 2.9-3.0mm service limit 2.6mm. Some times you can slip one extra metal plate in the clutch pack to get the total thickness of the pack back to spec. Clutch center nut 29-36 ft-lbs 6mm clutch spring bolts 5.8-8.7 ft-lbs
when we engage & disengage clutch in neutral why does engine sound changes ? when clutch is disengaged engine sounds very smooth & when engaged it makes little bit tik-tik-tik-tik noise
+DrAmit Singh From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia "The Bajaj Pulsar 200NS is a standard or naked motorcycle made by Bajaj Auto. A new version Pulsar 200NS was launched in 2012. Due to certain technical issues, the production of this model was discontinued by Bajaj in month of july 2015." You get what you pay for most of the time. I doubt it is built by the same quality standards KTM is. Search forms on the web and see what others have said about that particular bike and that problem.
My clutch doesn't slip it grabs. I am at the end of adjustment on the cable. I can go about 3 miles and it gets harder to down shift. I have to turn the bike off to get into 1st gear sometimes. What causes the clutch to grab when the bike is warmed up? I got new BC springs and friction plates. I am about to get another kit that has the steels and friction discs. Don't know what the problem is.
+altlandf There are usually two adjustments points on a motorcycle clutch. Either a mechanical adjustment for the lever that comes out of the bike or two cable adjustments, one on each end of the cable. When making the adjustment, leave the adjustment on the handle bar lever screwed in as much as possible so if you have to make a fine adjustment while you are riding you have room to do so. The main adjustment needs to be made at the second adjustment on the engine. Leave 2-3 millimeters of slack in the cable. If you cant get that adjustment to work it might be that you cable is stretched and it time for a new cable. I'm assuming you put the clutch together correctly when you replaced the plates.
Could be a a sticky cable or an adjustment. Could also be synthetic oil in a engine that it wasn't design for that. Could also be glazed metal plates, or weak springs.
@@Amotorcyclenut I actually went in and adjusted my clutch cable to have more slack and it seems to have done the trick. The motorcycle felt much more responsive now. Still gotta do further testing to confirm but so far so good.
I have a CRF80F 2007 I trying to get my clutch going but it just take off not working and it’s hard pull I loosened the plate screws and it works but it’s loose I tightene and clutch don’t work at all it feels like a semi idk wgo
When you assemble the clutch make sure you have the pressure plate in the correct orientation. Make sure you have the right number of plates in the proper order. Sometimes the first metal plate is different. Look it up on a parts microfiche online so you know it's right.

I preload the springs with washers installed between the spring and retainer. I also lightly scuff the fiber disks as well.
Very good video and a great voice...thank you from berlin, germany for this nice video. Intruder for ever.
great tip! I was stranded once because of slipping clutch. I understand this is temporary solution though.

with that formulation , if i change clutch springs to harder one, which mean increasing spring pressure, can i get more torsion ? thanks in advance
My 77 Harley has that same problem I will try that thanks

Does this also works if warpage is more than service manual suggests ? 0.20mm warpage limit
0.20mm is not very much, less than .001 of an inch. So if you have warpage that is worse than the spec, it's time for new plates.
Thanks for the video. I put the wrong oil to the motorcycle. Do you think that just replacing oil for the correct one fix it? Thanks
That depends on how long you rode it that way.
@@Amotorcyclenut I rode 100 miles. I replaced it and it is feeling good again. Thanks

It's a bajaj-KTM made Indian motorcycle called Pulsar 200 NS with engine from KTM Duke 200

A Motorcycle Nut it’s says friction 2 steals and a friction can that be possible? I have 3 frictions and 2 steals 🤦🏼♂️
DISK, CLUTCH FRICTION PT# 22201-166-000 (3) req'd
PLATE, CLUTCH PT# 22311-KN4-680 (3) req'd Metal plate
According to the Honda you need three of each.
Is this effective upon a high mileage clutch expected to fail say 14000 mileage and if so what's the lifespan after the repair.
If the metal plates are over the lowest thickness indicated in the manual it should be fine
Great fix..

around 220 works.

What do you mean by longitude motion?
Meaning parallel with the centerline of the disk and not circular.
Legend cheers mate
Teşekkür ederim...❤️🤟
Thank u sir!!!
Lose the math. You don't need Ohm's Law to replace a tail light.
Dont be to technical just buy new sets of clutch it would last long.
good video
