I put in five different ways and could understand why my kids 85 had no clutch. Know I understand what I did wrong after much aggravation. Thanks for this video!
Thank you so much I'm going to try this, I have had the same issue on my 08 yz85 and took the whole thing apart realizing it could be this, but this is my first bike
Pretty sure mine is the same, but stuck due to lack of use, maybe I should of cable tied the clutch lever into the release position when I park it up for any length of time.
Then fix the clutch issue thanks so much again my 15-year-old son Mark says thank you too.! I ride the z900 RS right beside the little 50. LOL we have fun
So I am A 57-year-old woman grew up on dirt bikes, and I have a Yamaha Enduro on off-road. It’s a bigger bike than that one for sure how many pounds am I going to be cranking on those bolts to tighten them back up and how do you measure pounds when you’re tightening some thing up? I’m trying to fix this without getting my brother involved.
Bolts are 7-11 ft lbs of torque, you'd measure that with a torque wrench. Its not a lot and is real easy to overtighten and break something as most of the threads in there are just into aluminum.
07 yz85, simimlar problem will click into gear but will die if the revs arent kept above idle. and bike does not roll in gear while clutch is pulled in
Yes, you are right. I can only recommend repairs, in the end its up to the owner to decide if they want to replace things. The water pump shaft in this case is badly pitted so we put in a new seal but it wont last long before coolant leaks into the case again.
It only takes 1 to stick to lock it up pretty good. If they are truly fine then the ridges that get cut into the basket can cause a clutch to stick. Other than that stretched cable or adjustment tends to be a common problem.
Not really, they pretty much stick solid or work fine. Sounds like you have a bogging issue with a dirty carb, bad gas or bad spark plug. Those kind of issues most likely.
Yes, on my own stuff I'd never re-use a gasket but I don't own this machine so I can only recommend. In this case they didn't want to put much money into it at this time.
No, you don't need to remove the clutch for this job. The push rod that goes from the lever through the clutch will be under tension so you will have to open the right side cover and just take out the 5 bolts to relieve pressure to get that rod back in. Hope this helps.
I have a 2015 Honda Grom with a very similar problem. I bought it in February of 2021 and used the bike until May since my wedding was in August and i got busy. I then left the bike stored up until December 2021 and when i tried putting it into first gear it would just stall. The clutch isn’t disengaging so i think i want to try this out
My ktm 85 has been laid up for awhile and I needed to get my carburetor cleaned as the jets got clogged and was a bog noise when reving . So now that's sorted I took it for a spin and basically when I put it into first gear it conks as soon as I leve out the clutch but yet when I run with it kick it to second it goes perfectly. Plz help 😢
So I have a 01 80 that I just did a full motor rebuild/restore and when I put in the clutches and the plate with the springs the cliches move around without the cluch pulled or even when it’s unhooked I added another clutch and when installed it would hit the inside of the cluch cover
@@alstonasby5883 possible you dont have the pressure plate splines aligned. So the clutches will end up spaced away about 1/8" and never fully engage clutch. Its kind of tricky to put that clutch pack in there and occasionally it'll pop off the last clutch plate. Also there's a washer/spacer between the clutch pressure plate and the outer hub sometimes that'll drop down during assembly and jam things up.
I havent done an 01 yz80 but most likely they have timing marks like the 85's and have to be assembled right. 8:28 in the video explains how to line up the cover.
Once I got to the point. Something about it sitting in too long and it's a causing it to stick cause mine's brand new. I didn't file it but most likely. That's what it was and you should almost say that in the beginning a few key things that might impact what's going on and that might keep people on. Your video a little longer. They know that that's exactly what it is or if it's relatively close. I could tell right off the jump by what you were talking about. Is exact same thing that minds doing and it's most. Likely Because it's set for so long
Awesome video, why didn't you just lay the bike on its side? And can you clean the clutch pack in coca cola (i've seen a guy do that) and isn't it better to clean then in brake cleaner (would it damage the glue?) Sorry for so many questions
Laying it over didn't help. In this case the oil wouldn't have got in between the plates since they were stuck together. Sometimes you just gotta rip something apart.
@@hardendurobosnia17 gotcha. But then I'd have to work on it on my knees or bent over...thats for young guys lol. I got a $400 bike lift so I can save my back not a half liter of oil ;)

My2001 yz80 I just rebuild the bottem end and when I pull in the clutch and shift and let the clutch out it dosnt move it try’s to and it does move a little bit but dosnt move far eny tips?
First thing I'd check is the cable adjustment, make sure its got some slack in it. If that fails you may have to make sure you put the cap on the clutch pack right. The yz's need to be lined up right. Look at th-cam.com/video/xQHSW4ziXwM/w-d-xo.html in the video above I show how to do this.
Ok so pretty much mine doesn’t start to move when letting off the clutch while giving it throttle and if I do end up getting into 1st it bogs when I get it into 1st gear I think because of the friction but I’m not sure
@@Dylan.99 Well there's a few things other than the driver that could cause that, dirty carb, especially this time of year when you first take the bike outta storage. Fouled spark plug would be my second guess, just because well 2 strokes. After that you get a little more technical, CDI box and coil etc. I'd start with the first 2 since they're cheap and easy.
First thing I'd check is a stretched or out of adjustment clutch cable. If thats all OK then I'd definately pull the clutch pack, its a relatively common issue especially for bikes that have sat for a while.
@@jltsvlogs1837 In this case we had several clutch discs that were simply stuck together. Most likely whoever installed the clutch prior didnt soak em. Fresh oil and a little soak later put it all back together, problem solved.
Hey i have a question i put my clutch pack back together and my first gear is neutral. I’m trying to figure out how to fix that and get it back to normal lol please reply i need help
That's a new one. Clutch really shouldn't have anything to do with the shifting. You may have to pull off the side cover and look at the shift shaft. There are some small springs and ratchet mechanism there that can get jammed by debris.
Ok so i fixed the issue. Nothing was wrong with my fears lol. I bought a new gear shifter and i put it on too low smh so it was shifting down to neutral and it wouldn’t go past to go to first gear. Thanks for your help and reply i appreciate you as always

Seals were recently replaced but youre right the oil is definately contaminated so it looks like the shaft itself may be the issue.
