There is a Mexican Mortal Kombat clone called "Kombate Mexicano X". I bought a copy of it when I went to the EGS (a gaming convention that had support from big brands) like 16 years ago in the indie section that was behind the important booths, the person demoing the game was actually one of the developers/actors who was digitized into the game. @@BainesMkII I wouldn't call it an MK rip off though, all it really did was use digitized graphics. Which MK wasn't even the first one to use that, Pit-Fighter was.
Fun fact about Eternal Champions: “Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's 1995 album E. 1999 Eternal, was loosely inspired by the video game, not just in title, but even as far as the use of samples, such as the character bios theme for "Eternal", and the bad ending theme being the basis of the original "Crossroad", which would later be remixed, becoming the group's biggest single and earning them a Grammy.”
If I remember correctly, Death Cargo was repurposed into "Gorebreaker" (a game that used the assets, but seemed to be more of a beat'em up/RPG hybrid).
KI had to be the first clone I played or was aware of. And similar to MK, my mom banned me from playing it. I managed to make a deal with her that would allow me to play KI as long as I only played as Spinal since he didnt bleed. Eventually I got her to allow Fulgore and Glacius since they bled "oil" and "water" respectively
Congrats on ten years, Austin! I've been watching your stuff for a long time and always enjoy opening TH-cam to see a new video of yours. Hope that you keep making cool stuff for a long time!
I LOVE the story that the Kasumi Ninja team literally went to a market across the street from their building to find the costumes for the game. That’s admirable determination!
The sad thing was no one could do what they did as good as they did. Many imitators but no true successors or equals. Say what you will about mortal Kombat but it had a look and feel that it nailed perfectly. And though a bit wonky by modern standards it's still comes up on top compared to the absolute Dollar store knockoffs that mostly came up against it.
I never actually played it but Eternal Champions’ box art lived in my mind way too much as a kid when it came out. I would just sit there and wonder, how far does that beam out of his watch go? Is it like a lightsaber or does it just go up into space? I’m doing it again help
As a certified dinosaur kid ™️, my first thought for a clone was Primal Rage, so I'm glad you got to it immediately! We rented it over and over for the SNES, and I even still have an official action figure for a sabertooth tiger character from the unreleased sequel. A modern reboot could be incredible!
Eternal Champions was Segas best hit as an exclusive hybrid between MK and Street Fighter. Owned the original on Genenis and the CD Version is just what it always schould have been from the beginning. Could have become one of THE fighting games of today... oh - i would love to see that version of reality.

There's this one very obscure fighting game on Mac and PC called The Untouchable that would've been a good fit for the video, it was released in the late 90s and had digitized characters. There's not much info on it out there so I'm not shocked that it wasn't mentioned. Looks like it was developed by the same studio that made Bikini Karate Babes lol. Great video, man. Omf2097 was one of my favorite games in the late 90s and I remember one of my friends contacted the creator to use the music on my city's local Comcast cable channel. While it might feel clunky by today's standards it's deep story telling for the tournament modes made it an amazingly fun dos alternative to Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter 2 (for a single player). If you had the ability to use 2 Gamepads it could also be very fun with 2 players even if it wasn't as deep on a mechanical level. Ran on everything and had a shareware (and then freeware) version. Free vs the 50 to 60 Dollars Mortal Kombat was at the time made it an easy choice for me. And damn it's soundtrack is full of bangers
That one kid was Maximillian Dood and i think he mentioned it in several videos when he covered the ost in old podcasts with Superbest Friends and their fighting game podcast
Those Jackie Chan games are actually really good, they seem chunky and just button smashers at first, but if you keep at it, there's actually a very interesting combo system that's hard to describe but eventually you catch on. Play as that Chinese New Years Dragon thing first if you want to learn it.
Mortal Kombat would go on to get praise for being innovators of mechanics like skill-based finishers, control distortion, speed altering, and timer manipulation... 25 years after Eternal Champions did them.
This video unlocked a core memory. I bought one must fall 2097 from the discount bin I’m the 90s and it only worked once on my pc with no sound. Never got it working again and tossed it.
Only MK "clone" I really played back in the day was Eternal Champions for the Genesis/Mega Drive. I was never very good at it, but I still enjoyed playing it on my friend's machine. Primal Rage, too. One of my local pizza places had an arcade machine for a good while after both TMNT arcade games had more or less been played out by everyone.
Eternal Champions CD has some of the most gruesome stage fatalities that I've seen in all my years, especially the mine cart one. With the log. Or the one where you're basically microwaved while still conscious. Ouch. I'm just bummed that Sega seems to have completely disowned it, since it still has potential and probably enough nostalgia to get some goodwill.
I had (and still have) Kasumi Ninja and Ultra Vortex. I actually preferred Kasumi Ninja, as I was able to work out better “strategies”. Also, i thought it was cool how the characters would fall in a few different ways based on how they are hit. That was actually pretty cool.
I loved the character "Larcen" in Eternal Champions. He was a bad ass to my young mind, reminding me of a mix of Batman and Dick Tracy (Dick Tracy being a game I also played a lot of the Genesis.)
This is the most blood I’ve seen in a yt fighting game vid, way more than the dedicated fighting game channels. Even the doods who say they won’t edit out the gore but still do. Just give chaos acid pee fatality from primal rage.
Bruh the fact i been watching you since before rocket knight, dawg thanks for being there frfr, always happy to watch your vids. Happy 10th glad you stuck around Austin
I remember having a lot more fun with Eternal Champions while playing it with my brother comparing to MK1. We both knew it wasn't really good but the characters had a lot of charm, having a cyborg, a vampire, a 40s gangster and stuff, it was cool. And the music was pretty great too!
I'm so glad you mentioned Death Cargo! I remember hearing about that game and being super intrigued by it only to never see or hear about it actually being released... Maybe a whole video on that story?
Damn, you made me remember the name of One Must Fall 2097, I used to share the keyboard playing it with my dad, I didn't even know how to read when I played it, but I could start the game on DOS
One Must Fall 2097 is fantastic; one of my all-time favorite PC games. Nice to see it get a shout-out here. Also, congrats on 10 years! I discovered and subscribed to you because of your Babylon's Fall video of all things since I got the platinum trophy for it before it closed up shop. Been loving the videos ever since.
Woa Eternal Champions. Some core memories activated. I remember being so proud finally doing some crazy finishers. Beating your opponent and letting him burn at the stake.
Weapon lord is made by a dev that includes one James "Djames" Goddard, industry veteran and the creator of SF character Dee Jay, who interestingly, went on to make the latest version of Killer Instict Holding down a button before doing a motion input is called a Negative Edge, and a lot of the games on your example used that input, including Primal Rage, Eternal Champions, and Weaponlord
HOLY CRAP!! DEATH CARGO!! God I remember that, the guy who was creating it used to make fan edit fatalities using footage from MK9 before the game was released. There was Goro doing Sheeva's skin rip, a brutal Reptile one. I've been trying to find those old TH-cam videos for years! But I guess they got scrubbed as well.
Wow, I haven’t thought about that Jackie Chan game in so long. I stumbled across it at the arcade in the Asian Garden Mall in the OC back in the day. Remember being like whoa you can fight as a lion dancer!! 😂
Actually Eternal Champions Sonic comic crossover was with UK based Fleetway comics. Sonic had two comic series at the same time, Archie Sonic in America and Sonic the Comic in the UK.
I am very happy the notorious Mortal Kombat clone showed up in this saga of a video, Tattoo Assassins which I know about due to the ridiculous amount of finishers it had, which were pretty darn hilarious, gets crushed by ship, "Eat Ship and Die". XD

This video unlocked a core memory. I bought one must fall 2097 from the discount bin I’m the 90s and it only worked once on my pc with no sound. Never got it working again and tossed it.
THANK YOU FOR SHOUTING OUT KILLER KUTS!!
That shit is just a straight-up legit studio electronic dance album
Only MK "clone" I really played back in the day was Eternal Champions for the Genesis/Mega Drive. I was never very good at it, but I still enjoyed playing it on my friend's machine. Primal Rage, too. One of my local pizza places had an arcade machine for a good while after both TMNT arcade games had more or less been played out by everyone.
I had the Primal Cuts CD as a kid and I felt like I was a man amongst children while listening to it.
Eternal Champions was pretty damn good. It still looks good, too.
"(Punk.)"
So good to see Eternal Champions get some much deserved recognition.
This is the most blood I’ve seen in a yt fighting game vid, way more than the dedicated fighting game channels. Even the doods who say they won’t edit out the gore but still do. Just give chaos acid pee fatality from primal rage.
War Gods just unlocked a core memory. Oh my goodness.
BIG fan of Eternal Champions Sega CD, so glad you mentioned it.
The wild hidden characters is almost as iconic as its violence.
The voice clip anubis you have been chosen has been stuck in my head since I played wargods at my cousin's house when I was a child
Some people act like the game is sooo bad but it's definitely a serviceable fighter. I liked it better than MK1 too because it had way more content.
@@Gatorade69 ever played the Sega CD sequel?
@@Invidente7 No but I know about it.
I should emulate it. Can't you play as a chicken in it ?
I'm so glad you mentioned Death Cargo! I remember hearing about that game and being super intrigued by it only to never see or hear about it actually being released... Maybe a whole video on that story?
Damn, you made me remember the name of One Must Fall 2097, I used to share the keyboard playing it with my dad, I didn't even know how to read when I played it, but I could start the game on DOS
Bro I’ve been trying to remember the weird ass fighting game I had on my N64 for 8 years and it’s fookin Bio Freaks!!! 😂😂 thank you!!
"Austin references Elfen Lied in a violent video game video" was indeed on my bingo card
I've seen a few other TH-camrs cover this topic before. You covered more games than the others I've seen, so that is cool. Good job.
Man Killer Cuts was the first CD I owned, I couldn't listen to if for years until my family go it's first CD player!!! :D 5:48
You forgot the most surprising MK klone of them all... STREET FIGHTER THE MOVIE
Woa Eternal Champions. Some core memories activated. I remember being so proud finally doing some crazy finishers. Beating your opponent and letting him burn at the stake.
I have zero recollection of anime portraits in one must fall. Loved that game as a kid and definitely did play it two player
Weapon lord is made by a dev that includes one James "Djames" Goddard, industry veteran and the creator of SF character Dee Jay, who interestingly, went on to make the latest version of Killer Instict
Holding down a button before doing a motion input is called a Negative Edge, and a lot of the games on your example used that input, including Primal Rage, Eternal Champions, and Weaponlord
35:18 Some of my fondest memories growing up was playing OMF with my brother on the same keyboard. Great game and a banger soundtrack.
1 Must Fall!! DUDE!! my brothers and I played this on the computer. Lots of fun.
Wow, I haven’t thought about that Jackie Chan game in so long. I stumbled across it at the arcade in the Asian Garden Mall in the OC back in the day. Remember being like whoa you can fight as a lion dancer!! 😂
Oh wow, this must be my birthday, can't wait to watch. Thank you!!
My friend Mark and I were the kids pulling off the finishers and combos in One Must Fall on my keyboard when we were 11.
Actually Eternal Champions Sonic comic crossover was with UK based Fleetway comics. Sonic had two comic series at the same time, Archie Sonic in America and Sonic the Comic in the UK.
Love your clone videos. Keep them coming 👍
Eternal Champions was way to difficult, I spent all my time in the practice area.
Mortal kombat had both mortals and combat
Also a cool ass story and fatalities
I am very happy the notorious Mortal Kombat clone showed up in this saga of a video, Tattoo Assassins which I know about due to the ridiculous amount of finishers it had, which were pretty darn hilarious, gets crushed by ship, "Eat Ship and Die". XD
Austin rhe fact that you used a clip from lost lands has me hollering haha thank you for that and congrats on the 10 years. U are a mint individual and appreciate everything u do
You putting in that GRIND 💪😎
Been hanging around for a _long_ time, since the Arcadea days even, and it's always been a pleasure to catch your videos to this day
Here's to another 10 years!
Cheers 🎉
Congrats on the anniversary!
I was hoping you were going to mention One Must Fall...because it's the only one I've played.
Eternal Champions needs to make a comeback. I still have my sega CD version... however my sega CD doesn't work lol
I did actually play Death Cargo! It was many, many years ago, I was either finishing school or in college, so I barely remember anyhting, but that visual style couldn't be forgotten.
Congratulation on the 10-year anniversary man! Your videos are so entertaining and so informal!
"Getting A Piece Of That Bloody Pie" has an ENTIRELY different meaning where i came from!! Lmiao! 💜
My parents never bought me Bone Storm.
They went to Hell.
Man, I loved the hell out of Mace the Dark Ages and Weapon Lord... which also explains why SoulCalibur is my fave fighting game series of all time.
4:15 the stop motion scanned models looked so good. I wish they had survived to the modern day.
Primal Rage and Time Killers were the first MK Clones I can remember playing in the arcades. Also, glad to see Eternal Champions on the list!
