God of War Clones aren't something you NORMALLY think about... but I do cause I'm a freak. I kept reading that Asura's Wrath is one but anytime I'd look at the gameplay it just didn't feel right. HOWEVER if I'm wrong, lemme know. Also if there's any others, would love to check em out in the future!
I've got a few more videos coming out before the year is up! I hope you enjoy this AND what I've got coming.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was way better than expected, the terrible movie almost kept me from playing it. I also enjoyed playing Dante's Inferno. I'll have to give Marlow Briggs a try and I already own it as it was an Xbox Games With Gold titles a few years back and it's backwards compatible. I think Heavenly Sword is a bit underrated, I liked it so much I gave it a second run-through.

Heavenly sword definitely has that jank. It's a shame we never not got the sequel which basically sounded like a version of Dante's inferno where you're fighting through the "underworld" afterlife whatever.
      That sounded so awesome.

The gore and damage not only to enemies but especially to Logan and his ability to regenerate is so cool and well represented in this game.
It's not long but it is short and sweet.
The only sadness comes knowing will never get another one nor likely a re-release of this one of any kind. (although fingers crossed the wolverine game coming up could be the new king.)

Speaking as a specialized Castlevania content creator in Brazil, I can definitely say that Lords of Shadow 2 is a better hack and slash than LoS1 if you just focus on the combat side of the game. You have air combos, more subitems, more weapons (and characters), and more enemy variety. LoS2 is really fun, but the story and some stealth sections can be a little frustrating. It's a very competent (and absolutely visually stunning) game with some bad parts, but it was and it still is WAY overhated by the Castlevania community.
You could do a lot worse with the franchise, and hey. Konami already did.

Rygar on PS2 I grew up with. I would watch my dad play it so many nights and of course he’d let me play on my own save. Fast forward to 2009 and my dad asked me if we should buy a PS3 for God of War III and he did because I had GoW 2 and fallen in love with it and told him how good it was and that it reminded me of Rygar. He couldn’t get past Poseidon and let me play even though I was grounded. I lost my dad last year and honestly after everything I have been through talking video games with people I l don’t think I have ever ran into someone that actually know Rygar. And you bringing it up and just this whole connection just ahh. Idk how to explain it. Just thank you Austin. I really loved it. You’re great.

      @Hecatom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

@@THEPHARAOH2 I mean, if you do a reductive description of both characters and plots, then yeah, but looking beyond that, it is far from the truth.
For starters Asura was betrayed by the other gods that wanted to use his daughter to harness power, and killed him because they knew Asura wouldn't allow them to kill people as sacrifice for power.
Of all the devas he is the most noble, which is shown in character design and lore.
Asura never attacks civilians, and his halo is the biggest and more intricate of all of them.
His anger is not only born from him, but is the anger of everyone that is suffering, the humans, the world, making him an avatar of their suffering.
His feats are never played as triumphs, since they always happen on his moments of most anguish, hence why they always play In Your Belief as his theme.
His most powerful forms are form that cause equal or greater damage to him than his opponent (Wrath and Vajira iirc)
It is why when he gets the manthra reactor from the fortress that atunes for all manthras that he becomes both more powerful but more stable (Also when Mithra channeled all the manthra from the karma fortress)
His tale is meant to be like a myth of creation where a god goes against all odds to liberate humankind and the devas of the cycle, making the ultimate sacrifice.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow was an incredible game. The only thing I really felt they did poorly was the DLC, which ramped up the difficulty of the encounters ridiculously and had a ton of tedious puzzles that overstayed their welcome three times over. I had a lot of fun with it personally -good enemy variety and great environments- as well as LoS 2 in spite of the issues. Went as far as exploring past areas to find all health, Void Sword and Chaos Claws upgrades.
The Toymaker still stands out strongly to me thanks to the preceding puzzle, the concept of the boss fight in his area, and the fact he is allowed to walk away alive. The Riders of the Storm were a tough but cool battle as well.
Riot Police with their shields and long-distance attacks, as well as the skull head demons that roamed the streets were among the more annoying enemies, however.

I was late to the party on Castlevania LOS.. I played the demo and kind of forgot about it.. However last year I finally remembered and sprung for the whole duology.. I can’t say it was free of GOW influence but Castlevania in essence while the majority are in 2d basically is the same idea.. Hack n slash level up and traverse.. LOS really isn’t all that much different than OG Castlevania imo.. Funny I also revisited Mark of Kri as of fairly recently.. It basically is very much like GOW tho a little less polished.. I just love that style whatever it’s called..
We also gotta give Sands of Time some credit too.. I mean any legit GOW fan would love this essential classic.. So happy it’s being remade albeit delayed..

The blood system encouraged you to be really aggressive so you can use that blood meter to regenerate health and stun enemies or later perform op attacks and enter a powered up state. Its dodge was not optional though and the game expected you to use it and the game had a great variety of enemies. The classic splatterhouse games alone justified picking it up.

Key thing with bamco taking the splatterhouse reboot away from bottle rocket was that the lead developer from BR insisted on using his original combat gameplay style, that he used in his two most well known creations: mark of kri and the sequel, rise of the kasai. Thing is, Namco thought that it wouldn't work after a bit into development and told them to do it differently.
What bottle rocket did? they kept developing it with the combat style that namco didn't want without telling namco itself and the rest, when namco found out what was going on, is history. Like respect to bottle rocket for their conviction on their original creation, but at the same time they kinda brought down the house upon themselves and also hurt the final product a lot too.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters for PS3/360 is one of my favorite games. It’s nice to hear you mention it. The fact that such a great game was only made to bank on the disappointing 2011 Green Lantern movie is crazy to me (though the game has pretty much nothing to do with the movie aside from Ryan Reynolds reprising his role). If you still have access to one of those old consoles, I highly recommend checking it out.

The Castlevania example is a little disingenuous since Castlevania: Lament of Innocence came out years before God of War was even announced and had its own 3D combat system with a longer range weapon (whip) that would be a better precedent to the Lords of Shadow combat. Though yeah there are God of War/Shadow of the Colossus influences in how you traverse mega-sized bosses. Also, calling it "not super original" really devalues the amount of love and care the devs clearly put into the game. If you want to name its biggest influence, I'd look outside of video games entirely and say its visuals were greatly inspired by the aesthetics of Guillermo Del Toro.

I'd need to re-read deeper on the details, but long story short, the original team was led by the guy who created the mark of kri and rise of the kasai (both very good and unique games too), and he was incredibly insistent on using those two's style of combat control which was his unique approach.
Bamco on the other hand didn't want them to use it as they thought it wasn't going to fit the game's style of aggressive combat, and the guy had the brilliant idea to convince bamco to use his style.... by continuing developing the game with his style of combat without telling bamco despite the higher ups telling him to knock it off.
Long story short when they found that out they fired him and the team as fast as a vulcan minigun fires bullets and really had to rush the rest of the game with less resources which caused a lot of the issues we do know about the game. Which is a damn shame

That's why I have the physical copies of X Men Wolverine and Bayonetta for the Xbox 360.
It really wasn't till the end of 7th gen did Developers realize that it was much better to develop for the PS3 than port it to the PC360.
But the PS3 being custom, cell processor and how you can use its "cores," and split 512MB of RAM 256/256 made it rather difficult for developers always on crunch to learn. Vs working on a Custom IBM Processor (Ala Macbook) with off the shelf ATi X1800/1900 GPU?

Nice video! I just finished Wolverine last night and I think it's tied with Lords of Shadow as the best God of War-like I've played. Such a blast and I will definitely be replaying it for years to come.

The Wolverine and Ghost Rider games were so much fun. I replayed them so many times so I could unlock all the costumes and then go one more time.

That was awesome. I couldn't believe I could play as Ghost Rider 2099! Took me forever to unlock his ass.

Between Scarlet Nexus and Stellar Blade, I'm hoping that we're entering an era where NieR: Automata clones start to replace GOW clones as the go-to "DMC-adjacent-but-not-the-same-level-of-complexity" genre. GOW just never really interested me, but NA and SN were both fantastic. Of course, I wouldn't mind having just straight-up DMC clones either.
