the story sucks, everything else is super peak. But tbf people like the story alot so i picking at the plotholes and dumb inconsistencies there was much here valued. MK1 has a better story (until the end where its even worse) but it has nothing else that beats MK9 lmfao
MK9 was recently de-listed from Steam. I really hope that means they're planning to remaster it at some point. You can still buy the code for it on G2A, CD Keys, etc. But the price is definitely going up as you would expect
MK9 Is the best game Netherrealm still made because it feels like they cared, while I think MKX is good and MK11 is passable, I havnt even bothered TRYING to play MK1, it looks so lame and so greedy like they dont care anymore, while the fatalities are a little iffy at times, and while the game balancing is wack competitively, Its still a great mortal kombat game with lots of love and charm put into it, its still quick and snappy enough where I can play it and not be slow and too sluggish of a game. Amazing game through and through, best part is? I can fit it on my xbox one without having to download so much damn game content. Edit: the reason your X ray didnt work with Cyber Sub Zero is because it has to be initiated in the air.
MK9 and MKX felt like games that were made with love and care by people who actually were fans of the og MK games while MK11 and MK1 feel like mass produced AAA slop
I've only played a little bit of Mortal Kombat X and 11 but I enjoyed what I played in small bursts. I personally have to be in the mood for it as I usually play different games. But I'll always appreciate the Mortal Kombat series
MK9 was peak Mortal Kombat, characters looked cool instead of lame actors wearing cosplay in a "realistic" artstyle. The stages had that classic Mortal Kombat design, the gameplay was fun and you could actually unlock good stuff in the Krypt.
I hated mk11’s goofy retro/80’s aesthetic and almost every character wearing spandex or superhero cowls. Not to forget, the facial models were plain ugly. Superhero spandex tights were a bad look for Mortal Kombat. Mk1’s aesthetic was a bit better than 1, but still funny looking for many character models/designs. Mk1’s user interface(U.I) was ugly too. The U.I looked like it was designed for a mobile game.
@@FosteringMotivation Nothing is wrong with the 80's garb; matter of fact, that's how the original creators wanted their characters to look like. It wasn't until MK3/3D era where they changed that, sadly.

Can't even compare that to the ctrl+c/ctrl+v Down syndrome look of every female character in MK1. Tanya straight up looks like she ran away from a zoo. What a disappointment.

Kronika was the worst villain in MK history. An all powerful TITAN who gets her ass kicked by Liu Kang... Also her entire plot was dumb... Shang Tsung was a much better villain than Kronika.
I give MK9 nothing but praise. One of my favorite aspects of it are the endings, most if not all of which are simply really cool. I just love shit like the irony of Johnny turning into a monk (as well as the Seido namedrop). It's another place MK1 fumbled, because instead of fun "what if" endings it tries an "epilogue to the story mode" approach which is fucking boring because there's no variety and zero closure for the sake of the status quo. You don't find out what the characters did, you find out what they _want_ to do, and the towers also now exist in this weird bubble with no connection to the rest of the game. Even the two guest endings so far amount to "I WASN'T HERE.... BUT NOW I AM. GUESS I'LL GO KILLIN AGAIN!" Compare that to Alex Murphy becoming what amounts to the god of law enforcement or the Joker living out Shang Tsung's greatest fantasy.
Stryker didn't want to be portrayed by Johnny Cage. Johnny Cage had Stryker black balled from MK. First he died in MK9, remained a revenant. And isn't seen in Liu Kang's timeline.
On Noob Saibot "Nobody knows where he came from but it's likely that Quan Chi revived him" The very next line from Noob's ending says that he was resurrected by Quan Chi 😂

Doing combos in x felt so good you needed to figure out match up no crushing blows no spamming pokes.. sure there was pokes in all of them but 9 and x made it feel good and everyone had tools to counter things for everyone… shame what mk1 is

MK9 will probably always be my favorite, I still grind it out to this day trying to get mastery on all the characters for that last glorious achievement on steam Also hearing you say “Sheeva is overpowered” really cracked me up since she’s like, bottom 5 in competitive but yea, probably a casual monster

MK9 is ny all time favorite, mainly because it is a 4 player fighting game, a good fighting game. The amount of laughs we've had with friends playing this 2v2 is unheard of. Absolute banger
I mean, the 2011 reboot basically just did the first three games in 3D. That's it. The overall story started going downhill, as it usually does once time travel gets involved, but this new one went off the rails. Now I guess only guest characters are the only interesting thing, but they've used all the boomer once already, so don't know how far the modern ones can take them.
Well mk9 wasn’t really time travel it was just raidens visions and that’s it so it wasn’t really bad. I think mk9 had the best story in the nrs and ONE of the best mk stories

The story in Mortal Kombat 9 was not that good at all it's the same crap we get today they took the storytelling that was in Mortal Kombat versus DC and they used it here and you guys forget how many people jobbed out any story mode😂😂
It's so sad because I don't hate some of them. Mileena's first (not the second) alternative costume is super cool and so is Sindel's. but the other Mileena alternative + Kitana being a princess in a bikini was sooo weird, for a reboot they kept a lot of the super skimpy designs, even Sonya looks just laughable. Then again, I prefer this to the modern blandness of the female designs, god MK1 Mileena, Kitana, Nitara and Li Mei just kinda look wrong, it's so strange
Lets not just blame WB. Its time to also start blaming NRS. WB gives NRS more than enough time, resources, and money to get these projects done. Its not WB’s fault NRS is lazy and lackluster in their design philosophy.
Imo I like the Kameo system it’s new and different. Just cause you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s bad. And the monetization is pretty much ALL on WB which is an actual issue with the game.

I treat mk1 kameos like an extension of the main character not a separate character. And tag was only towers and much more limited in what they could do. It’s much better than mkx imo with only 3 ways of playing each character, in mk1 each Kameo can add an entirely different way of playing yours.(not saying mk1 is a better overall game but with variations it is)

The timeline was restarted and Liu Kang essentially made these alterations to avoid conflicts. It's not as bad as you make out. The multiple timeline aspect of it, is in fact very interesting and opens up a lot of possibilities. I was also someone who looked at it with a fair amount of scepticism going in and didn't dive into it until yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by it.
All those altercations and he still gave Shang Tsung a shitty life, causing him to yearn for more. MK1's story was utterly shit, I'm supposed to root for Liu Kang when he's the real villain?
@@opadripI enjoyed the story for MK1, it just doesn’t compare to the story of MK9. The fact is is that Liu Kang isn’t perfect and is new to the “time lord” aspect. He isn’t Omnibenevolent either, and probably tried somewhat punishing those who caused him harm, without really realizing it. Definitely the worst story we’ve had for any recent MK game, but it’s actually interesting. I just don’t like how they did Raiden.

When you mentioned you got MK9 at a local *retro* game store, I realized how old we are now. I mean, it was released only in 2011! And now PS360 generation can be considered as retro too because it's same age as 80s consoles were back in 2005/6
I took a huge break from gaming. I left when MK3 released in arcade and returned with MK9 with PS3 because Freddy caught my attention. my favorites are MK9 and MKXL. It seems the only Mortal Kombat I feel I missed out over the decades were Shaolin monks and that made me buy a new PS2

MK9 was chef's kiss for the franchise. Only thing is that it was pretty broken af, even some of the lower tier had something extremely unusual for fighting games. Although that was also the charm. Mortal Kombat 9 had fatalities locked behind paywall. The classic skin pack had fatalities for scorpion, sub-zero and reptile. Also these skins were in the game from day 1 as you could see them in the challenge towers, but to use them in any game mode you had to pay for them. They were already scummy back in the days as well...
MK9 is my favorite MK game of all time…it was not perfect, but it was so much fun and the online tag mode was my favorite because my friends and I would team up to play people online for hours!!! I would love a remastered version of MK9!!

MK9 is an important childhood game not only introducing me to the fighting game genre but also letting me bond closer to my mother who at the time was getting her life on a better path after seeing me talk about Scorpion she introduced me to the old movie which is one of my favorite memories and moments of my life
Very good video, you nailed it, just a shame about the unnecessary swearing, but overall you're quite right, this game is much more fun than MK1. Also, looking back, what I loved about this game was it was released before the woke mob came along, the women looked like women and had hips, breasts and curves. not covered up flat chested planks of wood on steroids.

bruh, back in 2011 before the complete edition was released. you had to buy the MK1 classic skins and dlc characters. the DLC charcaters were never free until they were included with the komplete edition in 2012
you are comparing pricing with a new game (under bad shape of the economy) vs. a game that has aged out of the market value that u bought for 10$ from a retro game store without even getting the game at full price when it was still fresh back in (2011) it used to be 60$ when in stores and there was microtransactions for DLC charcaters including 1 guest character and 2 skin packs. you had to wait a year for MK9 to be a bundle pack into MKKE as it would still be 60$. MK9 was a great promising game for the first reboot of the franchise, it's just not accruate or to sate one is better pricing because of the current pricing with a game that has aged vs a new game that just got released months ago including microtransactions would be a complete exaggeration when both of the games had it. honestly this video review seems more like a Ban wagon perspective to MK9 because the accuracy with pricing is wrong, but the review with gameplay is true and accraute. goodjob on the video tho. Cronika was the worst thing that ever happened to MK. It felt like a MCU pull. MK has godly lore and they threw it all away for that bullish.
My main issue with Kronika is that she’s one of those characters that should be unbeatable, but somehow is beaten due to plot.

The overall story started going downhill, as it usually does once time travel gets involved, but this new one went off the rails. Now I guess only guest characters are the only interesting thing, but they've used all the boomer once already, so don't know how far the modern ones can take them.

Mileena's first (not the second) alternative costume is super cool and so is Sindel's. but the other Mileena alternative + Kitana being a princess in a bikini was sooo weird, for a reboot they kept a lot of the super skimpy designs, even Sonya looks just laughable. Then again, I prefer this to the modern blandness of the female designs, god MK1 Mileena, Kitana, Nitara and Li Mei just kinda look wrong, it's so strange

It’s much better than mkx imo with only 3 ways of playing each character, in mk1 each Kameo can add an entirely different way of playing yours.(not saying mk1 is a better overall game but with variations it is)

Just bc your tag assist can do a few extra moves means really nothing.

The timeline was restarted and Liu Kang essentially made these alterations to avoid conflicts. It's not as bad as you make out. The multiple timeline aspect of it, is in fact very interesting and opens up a lot of possibilities. I was also someone who looked at it with a fair amount of scepticism going in and didn't dive into it until yesterday and was pleasantly surprised by it.
All those altercations and he still gave Shang Tsung a shitty life, causing him to yearn for more. MK1's story was utterly shit, I'm supposed to root for Liu Kang when he's the real villain?

He isn’t Omnibenevolent either, and probably tried somewhat punishing those who caused him harm, without really realizing it. Definitely the worst story we’ve had for any recent MK game, but it’s actually interesting. I just don’t like how they did Raiden.

Mortal Kombat 9 had fatalities locked behind paywall.
The classic skin pack had fatalities for scorpion, sub-zero and reptile. Also these skins were in the game from day 1 as you could see them in the challenge towers, but to use them in any game mode you had to pay for them. They were already scummy back in the days as well...
MK9 is my favorite MK game of all time…it was not perfect, but it was so much fun and the online tag mode was my favorite because my friends and I would team up to play people online for hours!!! I would love a remastered version of MK9!!

MK9 is an important childhood game not only introducing me to the fighting game genre but also letting me bond closer to my mother who at the time was getting her life on a better path after seeing me talk about Scorpion she introduced me to the old movie which is one of my favorite memories and moments of my life

bruh, back in 2011 before the complete edition was released. you had to buy the MK1 classic skins and dlc characters. the DLC charcaters were never free until they were included with the komplete edition in 2012

you are comparing pricing with a new game (under bad shape of the economy) vs. a game that has aged out of the market value that u bought for 10$ from a retro game store without even getting the game at full price when it was still fresh back in (2011) it used to be 60$ when in stores and there was microtransactions for DLC charcaters including 1 guest character and 2 skin packs. you had to wait a year for MK9 to be a bundle pack into MKKE as it would still be 60$.
