It's worth mentioning that Harold Ramis didn't just act in the originals, he and Dan Aykroyd wrote both of those movies together. This was very much written FOR Harold as the end card said.

Totally agree. I honestly felt this film gave fans a closure for the original ghostbusters and it also gave a closure for fans of Harold Ramis. Harold made so many films from my youth that are classic films. From films like caddy shack and stripes, animal house to ghostbusters. Harold helped bring so much fun and entertainment to the world. It was a great way to pay tribute to him and his most memorable character, egon.

Besides Ghostbusters The Videogame, this is the sequel we've been waiting for, and actually respects what came before it; Egon's actor, Harold Ramis had died in 2014, so a stand-in and digital effects were used to bring him back for this, though he did lend his likeness and voice in the most recent videogame; there's a mid and post-credit scene

It's just so funny how Paul Feig and the cast of 2016 reacted to Afterlife, they resented it and bashed it on Twitter so much as if their shxt movie made them the rightful owners of the GB franchise now.

Also, in addition to that, when the streams were crossed the first time, they had no way of knowing if they would be able to survive it. After the events of the first film, it's safe to say that Egon figured out how to fine-tune the packs in the temple to allow for the streams to cross without leading to possible explosion.

Awesome choice to react to! This film hits all the right buttons. The original music, some actual practical effects, the return of the classic Ghostbusters, the story, everything! Its a bit of a slow build movie, but I feel like thats necessary. Besides, the original took a while before they actually went up against Slimer.
When GB 2016 came out, I wanted it to be like this...a movie about the original Ghostbusters passing the torch to the next generation. Instead, we got...Ghostbusters 2016(which didn't respect the originals at all).
Example of classic GB humour: Ray asks Egon to switch on his pack in the cramped elevator. Egon does. The pack whirs ominously, with Egon and Venkman edging far away from it as they possibly can in the cramped space.
Example of crappy 2016 movie humour: The characters continuously talking, reacting and explaining the jokes, hoping it will make someone in the audience laugh.
Sort of sad Shandor got killed off so quick, if I have any complaints. Especially after his description by Egon in the original Ghostbusters.
The proton guns were automated, so crossing the streams wasn't as dangerous as it was supposed to be. Besides, the crossing the streams was an untested event in the original film that they expected they might not survive, but doing so closed the portal and they ended up not being killed(though the rooftop was vaporized). Besides, I think Gozer couldn't be sent back the same way because there wasn't a true gateway, as before. The sacrifices performed brought her back, but she couldn't rise until Egon's "shield"was disabled.
This movie made me tear up as we see Egon return to help his granddaughter and the rest of the team seeing him again. Luckily, I managed to see this in theatres before the latest shutdowns. I loved seeing the return of Gozer and the Terror Dogs and I loved the overall message.
Jason Reitman, being the son of Ivan Reitman, the director of the originals, shows that he wanted to make the film actually good and not just a piece of shit(eat it, Paul Feig).
Fun fact: Jason Reitman showed up in "Ghostbusters 2"as a kid at the birthday party Ray and Winston entertain at, telling them his dad says they're full of shit.
The after credits are both worth it, if you didn't get to see them(can't pay to watch your fully reactions, unfortunately). Basically one bit poking fun at Venkman's cringy manipulation of college girls with the psychic tricks in the first one and one about the old firehouse...and a hook for a sequel!
Oh, you're going to watch "The Mummy"trilogy? Great! You'll hate the third one! (One of the main actors, Rachel Weisz, dropped out to do another movie("Eragon")and rather than wait for her, they replaced her with another actress(who did very badly). Either way, "Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" was not great.

I think the Shandor spilt happened b/c of what happened in the video game.
In the game (which takes place in 1991, making it 30 years since the last ghost sighting from the present time of this movie), it’s revealed that Shandor is wanting to ascend to godhood since the original four defeated Gozer the last time around. However, (surprise, surprise!) they defeated him and once again, saved New York from the insane architect and Gozer worshipper.
Interesting that they remembered Ivo’s betrayal. So Gozer decided that they and Shandor had to split. (Thank you, I’ll be here ‘til the heat death of the universe)

The packs were crossing streams directly over a portal to the underworld, basically re-sealing it like they did in the first movie. Pretty ingenious setup, though obviously Egon had to know it wouldn't be a permanent solution.

It's clear the Mom is projecting a lot of her resentment towards her father onto Phoebe. Smart, unsocial, even looks a bit like him. Even, ostensibly, the reason her partner (Phoebe's father) left.
Yet when an ancient Sumerian God is bearing down on her, her first instinct is to put herself between it and her daughter!
Not a perfect parent, but a person.

At 0:44, As far as the 2016 film goes, it was alright. The problem, is that "Alright" doesn't cut it with Ghostbusters. If you want to experience that story in FULL, go play the 2009 game. (Just remastered a year or two ago). 2016's film basically stole the plot, but they didn't commit to it. They didn't go far enough ! Either play it yourself, or react to someone else's playthrough. Hand to God, it's truly amazing. You can beat the game in about 7 hours. But it's so compact. Yet has a fully flushed out story, that it feels like a whole GHOSTBUSTERS film all by itself. Plus it has AMAZING REPLAYABILITY!!!❤❤❤

I missed a fine random chance. Later I mentioned to my mom that I was awkward because of her, did she see that lovely girl looking at me!? Mom said "YES, I saw it! Being “born after the originals” isnt an excuse. I was born in 1989 and grew up watching the original GhostBusters. I watched not only that, but the original Jaws movie 25 times, and my very FIRST movie in theaters was Star Wars episode IV in its theatrical rerelease, and that night was still one of my best nights I had with my mother before I lost her. All of that was before I was 13. You probably should’ve watched less Pepe Pig and more classic movies
