Thanks for the great video! Have over 630K on my 12V and the solenoid just melted down. New relay and solenoid should get us to 1M miles, Lord willing.
Thank you so much save me a bunch of money I was going crazy not knowing what it could be did the diagnosis you did found out there was a bad feel Shut off keep the videos coming on the 12v
I would say that they used a aftermarket relay. And I considered that when I made the video but made no mention of it. It will always be the outermost relay, closest to driver side fender.
Thanks for the video, I've dealt with this problem on/off & have a new solenoid to put on, just never motivated enough to do it as the problem occurs then goes away but more recently I've had to toggle it manually all the time, so... motivation is coming back lol.. Dinosaur truck is right, but I don't think Dodge made a cooler truck ever, nothing seems as cool as a 2nd gen body with a 12 valve!
My 97 ram 3500 5.9 Cummins ' fss wiring harness checks out good when test light proved the ground(black) is good and the power(green) with the key on is good also. But the middle red wire shows nothing with test light and engine cranking. Please advise.

I am currently working on this issue; '96, 5.9, Cummins. Truck starts and runs, for awhile. The engine shuts off while driving and I can restart it when coasting in neutral. After this happens several times, eventually the truck won't start. After approximately 20 minutes it starts and process repeats. I've replaced lift pump and now thinking it is the fuel shutoff solenoid, the relay, or both. Any guidance?
Adjust the lever of the shutoff selenoid. Loosen the nut, lift the throttle arm all the way up with one hand. then turn the lever in/up until it slips on, tighten the nut. replace the relay and delete the prefilter/fuel heater.
97 12v truck starts fine although if I stop at a drive thru when re starting it'll start and immediately die almost as there was no fuel ,solenoid issue possibly ?
A good way to test that is to remove the shut off solenoid and tie the fuel shut off lever in the run position. Start it up and drive it around and see if it does it again.
I have a question. I just installed a new solenoid from Cummins pull works great hold does nothing. I have 12v and 65-66 amps on the hold line. Truck with stars and the shut down as soon as I stop cranking. I’m stumped.
This kit keeps wrecking the relay on the firewall on the pull up operation. I have to manually lift the actuator to get it to stick up and start the truck
No we don't. We have a very old 2 part video on a VP44 truck. The install will be pretty similar. The up until it's time install the drawl straw and connect to the PPump
Got fuel?
lol

You're welcome!
That's impressive mileage on your 12v, is it original without a rebuild? Also, I am curious what type of cold air intake system you're using?
Keep the 12V videos coming.
You want them? We got them!
Awesome!
x2
That!! Was awesome!! Thank you sooo much!

Love this channel, will be binge watching your channel this weekend !!
Welcome aboard! Enjoy!
Thanks for showing this, and how it works
You bet!
My 98 12v has no bigger relay and the smaller relay is not connected to anything wonder whats with that? Love yr vids very informative

when its deenergized does it spring back or does the motor work in reverse?
larry
Love the how to videos with any Cummins great video wade
Thanks!

Hi Wade.
I'm Dustin.
I ♥️ these how to videos! Thanks a bunch, God bless!
You want to hear about my 12 valve.... It's parked out back with a blown transfer case thanks for asking tho! Lol
Thanks for a very well done and informative video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for showing.
Our pleasure!
Isn't there a smaller version that saves the screws from pulling out from the hard pull in
I haven’t seen that. Actually BD doesn’t offer this solenoid anymore, but the video is still good for install knowledge.
when you test with the test light when the motor crank ,do you think its suppose to have fire on the holding power to ? or just the pull have it.
96 5.9 I have to turn key on then push solenoid in to start after that all good until next time help please
You will need to check your pull up and hold voltage. Like you say here could be ground as well.

That means that you aren’t getting trigger power. Figure out your trigger power source and diagnose from there.
On the center pin on plug I have no power

Hi sir, where can I purchase BD fuel shut off solenoid? thank you.
www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/bd-diesel-shut-down-solenoid-94-98-dodge-12-valve-1050250/
Will that solenoid also fit the 8.3 engine
Is this not on your site anymore?
It's been discontinued. BD plans to release a new on in 2024.
Hi , please what is the part number ???
www.thoroughbreddiesel.com/1050250/
You didn’t tighten the bolts on the solenoid
Awesome channel. An off topic question.... I have a square body chevy and hopefully install a Cummins any recommendations would be helpful.
Ppump 12v really simple
Well your on the right track 12v cummins definitely the best option imho 👍
@@TheFordf350superduty I've been trying to search how to videos on this conversion, not much out there for these trucks.
How to fix no ground on solenoid
Just need to trace down the ground and clean.
What if I’m getting fuel to the injection pump but not injectors
hi. I got a 98 that solenoid (new) wont shut off right away...takes minutes sometimes after ignition off....any idea ?
The solenoid I have keeps breaking the 2 bolts on top
Is the solenoid set too tight and causing it to put too much pressure on the bracket?
@Thoroughbred Diesel its adjusted correctly the solenoid is twice as big as the one you show in the video
It is plug and go I got it installed plugged in and kept doesn't work it open or closed
Show the fuel shut off solenoiecd 3 wire supply circuit
Delete the fss it’s just a matter of time before it is a problem. Install a manual cable for reliability.

Did you ever figure out what the problem with your 8.3 was. Mine is doing it now when it warms up.

Yeah or your idle. Mine did that until I raised my idle.
Replaced solenoid, hasn't had a problem since 30 minutes we'll spent

mines doing the same thing. Did you figure it out or am I just going to replace the solenoid with a dowel going through the firewall and dash?
Bleed the air?
This kit keeps wrecking the relay on the firewall on the pull up operation. I have to manually lift the actuator to get it to stick up and start the truck
What relay?
Why does my solenoid gets really hot?
Possible grounding issue or incorrect wire size.
Much obliged
After testing my harness when you crank it over the light doesn't come on so the trucks will still not start. What next?
I’m having the same problem
I'll never get rid of my 6BT. So easy to work on.
What would I have to do to put it on a toggle switch
Dangerous to go that route, if you are in an accident you wouldn’t want it on a toggle.
Thoroughbred Diesel like up use the switch for it to pull then turn switch off then ones you turn the key the truck dies
Thanks
You're welcome.
Thanks 🙏🏽
You’re welcome 😊
buy the shut off with hardware and bolts amazon, ebay 30.00 delivered
I did that and it didnt work got it for $24 better to go to napa and get one
Or better yet install a fuel shut off cable and never have a start or shut down problem again.
How do we get one of those hoodies

Thanx man
Do you have a video showing how to install airdog on a 12 valve Cummins?
