    Currently working on an 02 2nd gen that had the conversion done early in its life, thanks to this video I've found that the semi-recently replaced motor is running the block lift pump and burned out the in tank lift pump (or could not be wired in properly anymore) either way there's a restriction that needs taken care of. Probably wouldn't have figured it out without the help of this video. Thanks!

    My 99 cummins 167,000 fuel level sensor won't read tank level between 1/2 and 1/4. It's been this way for a long time. Bought a fuel level sensor from ebay (said OE). Well it wasn't. Truck in the carport, torn apart so I called O'Rilleys. Yes we have one $226 but it's the whole assy. I go pick it up and notice it has 4 wires running in it instead of 2 like mine. Realized it had a fuel pump in it, so when I installed it I had no fuel pressure. I do have a aftermarket fuel gauge (0-16 psi). Called another O'rilleys to verify the part# and was given the same. They told me they would call tech support. They called me back and said the unit I bought was for a truck that had been converted. If I wanted the original style they could get it and it was only $770. I looked at my original one and figured out how to take the float apart. Drive out the pin that the float pivots on and bent the fingers on it. Now with my meter hooked up, I don't have any more glitches in it.

    Excellent explanation. Just picked up a 2004, and this answered my questions! Thanks! Just a couple questions, where do you get the harness to go from the old lift pump to the fuel tank? How do you remove the old lift pump from the filter and get the adapter/fittings to go in there? I'm sure the dealer has it, I wasn't sure if there were after market kits available. Thanks!!!

    Excited new owner of my first diesel (nice 02 2500 2wd Quad Cab auto 188k). It does have the in-tank conversion already but very interested in doing the GDP Fuel Boss as my first “upgrade”. Apart from increasing reliability, I plan on keeping the truck mostly stock.

    Yeah, ive had major issues with my 03 5.9 here the past two weeks. My truck has the "lift pump" in the tank, and the actual one on the fuel filter housing. Replaced the sending unit and the lift pump on the housing along with the rail pressure sensor, and a new fuel filter because it was black, and used all OEM parts. (I had codes saying they were bad.) Got the truck running, but it acted like it wasnt getting enough fuel when the engine was under a load and hard starting. Mechanic said the fuel filter was black and slimy. So I'm guessing from this video, i have a restriction? To me, it kinda doesnt make sense because the sending unit i pulled out also had a pump on it and it ran fine for the almost 2½ years ive had it

    I have an 03 2500 with in tank pump, but have a leak somewhere at the fuel filter assembly. I have QD connections at my filter assembly. Where can I buy new feed and return lines? I can't find what I need online.

  • @Bulletfacial1
    @Bulletfacial1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mine went bad the other day, I went to replace the lift pump, thinking it was on the back of the fuel filter housing. It wasn't, instead on the back of the housing was just what seemed like a metal spigot type of thing that connected with 3 bolts and had a fuel line attached to the bottom of it and was connected directly to the housing (definitely wasn't a pump). I'm assuming that means that it already had a lift pump replacement done to it, and its probably in the tank? It's an 04 with 283k miles on it, bought it at 205k. I can email a photo of what I took off of the back of the housing.

    So question I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l cummins with 67,000 original mile . Installed a fass fuel system 165gh run it for 3 years the other day on my 10hr drive. 30mile get back to my home I lost all 17psi would start. I verified it not the vp44 pump, check all the wiring good . Pull the fuel filter off filter bone dry. So I I check the tank. I have fuel 1/2tank. I check all the Linda all good no leaks . Do you think it could be. A fass system?

    I just bought a project truck and it has the VP-44 on the side of the block, but the wires to the power connector are cut off with the pigtail still plugged into the VP-44. I can’t find the original wires anywhere. So I’m assuming they’re using it as a byp block essentially and the fuel sending unit in the tank is the pump?

    Good Morning, I am reaching out hoping you could give me some insight, I watched your video on the fuel filter replacement of my dodge, I was looking for a clue as to why my truck died. I just bought it , was running great freeway and all , has359000 miles, It started up very easily always, drove it a few block and noticed some hesitation, and sputtering when I gave it a little gas,, fine with no load on pedal, turned a corner and the truck died. It cranks now but no start, no indication it is trying to start, the wait light works, I turned key on after I cracked open that bleeder you showed on the video , but nothing came out, when I turn key on I do not hear any fuel pump or anything , not sure what I should hear. I did the bump on the ignition , nothing came out. I am sending some pix of the top of fuel tank, and the thing I thought was a fuel relay but it looks different form the pix in auto parts store. It has fuel , I checked that and added 4 gallons , Any suggestions would be very helpful , oh I checked the fuel relay in the fender well location I switched it out with another to verify. I just looked at this video , it has a puck in place where the lift pump used to be, also do you have a part number for the fuel pump/lift pump in the tank for these conversions . thx

    I’m having an issue with my truck not starting as quickly as it used to ? My question is: is it my in tank module or is it my fuel lift pump , or is it both of them ?? Please advise ?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 03 trucks did not have a VP44, they had CP3 injections pumps and were common rail. The 03 trucks were produced with the lift pump on the back of the fuel filter, owners converted to the in tank pump as these lift pumps failed. So look on the back of your fuel filter and see if the lift pump is still located on the back of the fuel filter housing.

    My grandson has a 2011 2500 with a 6.7 diesel.Truck dies out after running for 2 minutes. Let it sit for 30 seconds or so and it starts up again for about 2-3 minutes and dies. Is that a pump issue? How many pumps does this truck have.?

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Could be lift pump. To verify, you will need to have the truck on a laptop and monitor fuel rail pressure when the truck dies. You can take the delivery line off the cp3 from the fuel filter and test flow as well.

    I have a 2003 5.9 Cummins HO. All that is going to the back of the fuel filter housing is a fuel line, no lift pump. Looks like it has been converted. My truck has 173K and seems low on power especially at 2000K+ RPMS. I think the lift pump is going bad. Does FASS offer a lift pump that has conversion for an in tank on an 2003?

    Hey, I purchased a Fass lift pump with BD sump from you for my 03 ram 3500. I bought the kit on july 27th and just today opened the box! I did not know I needed to fill out a warranty card… Can you please help me with getting my warranty? Anyhow today oct,27th I opened the box and started with installing the sump. My truck has a lift pump on the block but when I drilled a hole in the tank I hit what looks to be a fuel filter/Pump basket. I was able to get the sump installed by pushing the in tank unit out of the way. My question is how do I know what i have going on?? I think I have 2 lift pumps running fight each other. I’m going to go back out and try and figure this mess out. Thanks for the video

  • @jpag8764

    There's no might. You will lose the VP44 if you run for extended periods of time (year plus) with low inlet pressure. Bought my '01 new and took it in a year or so later due to an occasional rough idle. They wanted to keep it for a week cause they "could not duplicate". Since this was my daily driver I could not leave it. Year later it quit and a diff. dealer found it had a bad lift pump (so that's what that noise is that it used to make). Year later it quit again. After running for more than a year with low inlet pressure the VP44 gave up the ghost. Hmm, wonder what that Shreider valve on the inlet side is there for🤔. Been through 3 lift pumps but still have the truck. Check the lift pressure every oil change. I do like the common rail better, MORE POWER.

    I have a 2001 dodge cummins 3500 5 speed. I was driving home yesterday and it started cutting out extremely bad and bucking really bad. I couldn't hardly get it to go faster than 60 mph. It would idle fine. But once I hit the hmgas pedle while driving or sitting still it would cut out. And sometimes when I really hit the gas pedal it would blow a small puff of white smoke. I changed the fuel filter and there was a ton of debris under the filter inside the canister that holds the filter. I cleaned it out and put the new filter in and primed the motor. It still cuts out and its not really even drivable. When I was priming motor, I would bump the key and hear the pump kick on for 30 seconds but now it won't kick on when I bump the key and now won't start. And I have 0 psi on fuel pressure. I absolutely have to have this truck back up and running by Monday. I own a concrete business and have equipment to pull Monday morning. I need some help in a bad way. I don't even care if someone calls me to give me some advice. Any help please. (573)-315-5608
