I've been seeing the 1UZ very slowly but surely gain more traction (after decades) and I would love to see the aftermarket for this engine grow. On paper, it's one of my favorite engines and I'd love to actually work with it. Can't wait to see this finished project

From what I know, the 1UZ is actually one of the top JDM V8 engines available too. And if you started with a car that had a stock 1J/2J, you could sell that engine, and have plenty of cash remaining after the cost of the 1UZ to pretty much fund the swap and a few extra goodies too. Solid choice imo.

Great video! I just got my 1uz harness back so almost ready to put in my is300 just need the XAT ar5 transmission goodies before putting the car under the knife. Can't wait for your next video to see how you go about with the install
Thanks! I went with a Spitronics ECU and harness, and all the XAT racing goodies for the engine mounts and bell housing conversion.

Im from the uk. I have a is200/is300. I swap in a 98 1uz. One of the best engines for this chassis. Very handy swap and i love it. These cars should have come with this engine in them.

My 92 sc averages 23 with mixed driving. And the early 1uz is butter with them beefy rods. Special engine for sure
Love the 1UZ. I wanted to put on into my 240 just couldn’t find something complete at the time. It’s a killer option today because the price for JDM turbo stuff is not as feasible anymore 👍

Had a 99 GS400. Loved the engine in that thing! It was just a boat of a car. I was going to 1uz swap my 85 celica gt-s but ended up selling it before doing it. I also had a IS300. I agree it is lacking in the power department. The 1uz should be an awesome swap. I thought about doing it myself and even watched a bunch of videos about when Chip Foose did the uz swapped IS300 but used the 4.3L. Didn't look too bad and sounded ah-mazing!

I have LS400 96 with 1UZFE Non VVTI, actually the Non vvti is more popular in swap world, I see it in tons of vehicles like BMW , Mercedes , audi and mutch more , even boats and small 4 passengers airplane .
It's less HP then VVTI, but more reliable .

Funny thing is my sc400 came with the 1uz vvti and its pretty quick for a street car it has the torque and the sexy v8 noises how my sc300 has the vvti 2j but u can turbo that or add a nonvvti bottom end on it I've seen people run 35psi on a nonvvti jz with no issues
I had a is300 before and was hoping someone would do a series on this!!! Sold it a while ago but now have just acquired a is300 wagon and really would love to 1uz swap it please do a in depth series for this!!!!!!!

Hello ppl. I have a friend who has a 1uz from a 98 GS 400. He is interested in dropping it in to his 95 se 300. Is this possible? The 95 currently has 2jz in it. If this is possible is there any modification needed to consider

is it lacking simple stuff like intakes and headers; or is it the more complex stuff like throttle bodies and, valve train stuffs, lightened flywheels, bigger injectors, etc.?

i fell you man never rent if ye can help it i have in the past never again i.seems like a great idea vvti heads and a cam regrind that thing will skoot with a tune adding a bit of ignition timing that 1uz vvti will go .i need an extra 2jz na and transmission want to sell it ? got a 280zx with no engine for my mom so ill be doing something As always be blessed

I'm using the W55 manual transmission that's currently in the car, not sure how long it'll last LOL if it breaks I'll goto a W58.
The only performance upgrades I'm doing are Headers and a standalone ECU, then maybe light weight pulley's at some point
@@PoorManMods Wait, but a standalone ECU for a V-8 usually ranges between $1800+ so why the expensive ECU?
@@WelcomeToTheMadness only if you go mainstream plug and play. You can have a speeduino or rusefi ecu for around $200. Make a harness and tune to your hearts content.

Swapping to a different car if you want performance
ES300 is basically a fancy camry. FWD and all. It has the 1mzfe engine. Possible swaps include, but not limited to, 3sgte (I'd suggest a gen5 version if you want easy drop in power), there is a rare 1mzfe supercharger kit, a 2arfe from a modern camry/scion tc would give you similar power but a lot less weight. There are a lot more options, just depends on how deep down the rabbit hole you want to go.
I don't need two of them because I have enough problems.

I'm shocked I literally thought it was heavier because it was a V8 I stand corrected I guess it ain't a bad idea after all.. but I do want more power than 100hp extra lol. Unless you can turbo the 1uz lol
More power and less weight, the car will be almost perfectly balanced and drive amazing

The 1uz is very reliable and there's some out there that have a million+ miles on them and still running

1uz is a heavily underrated engine. Some good headers, a free flowing exhaust, some 12.5:1 pistons, kelford cams, some S65 BMW ITBs, a good aftermarket ECU and you won't need a turbo.
Response on tap whenever you need it, good torque and horsepower and best of all no reliability issues and unnecessary heat.

@@PoorManMods RS enthalpy would remap stock VG30 ECUs to run RB25s. Maybe they can remap a 3uz ecu to run your 1uz?

People underestimate these 1uz. They always cry out for thick rod versions which are pretty dire. For not much money you can see 600+whp in these bad boys. I love mine stock. Great choice sir aha

@@marioandultrachap really easy to come across dude and gaining traction in the community as more people notice how good they are. Ls400 98+ or even the 3uz from the ls430 are great engines. For boosting cheap you can run around 400 on completely stock engine and fab a boost set up by flipping the manifold forward. Theres a good amount of info about them now tbf man. Not sure if that's what you meant about finding them aha. But yeah the auto box zaps a lot of power. So even a manual swap in an is300/200 depending where you are is a good upgrade. Blocks very light. The is200 had a 1gfe which is pretty small and it's still lighter. Worth reading up on man. Easy to swap in a weekend.

Was gonna do the LS 5.3/AR-5 in my '02 IS300. Is there fitment problems with the 1uz headers?
That's the main thing with the LS swap. Headers are almost what I paid for the car!

@@blownaway4371 I'll have a look through after work dude. Yeah the headers need tapping in slightly around the steering rack but that's it really it's literally a couple blows with a hammer. Think theres a couple vids on YT too about an install on is300 dude. It's a great replacement as it keeps the body balanced well too being so light. I think wet it's around 174kg

You sure you want to do that? Your car is probably worth alot stock factory manual. They have been selling for crazy prices. I would do it to a cheap auto is and convert it.
