As the owner of an IS300 powered by a turbocharged 2JZ-GE and backed by a T56 Magnum-F transmission, I watched this video with great interest and fun. You did a great job highlighting how fun this older SXE10 chassis can be when given 2-3x the power that Toyota originally gave us. Great job!
@@JebidiahSpringfield - my car isn't the best example of cost savings, but I'd say you could properly turbocharge a stock IS300 for around $10k if you have reasonable goals. That would get you a high quality turbo kit, fuel system, clutch, and EMS. People who try to budget turbocharge this platform have the worst results, and the reality is that it does cost significant money to do it right. If you can do the mechanical and/or tuning work yourself, that will be a significant cost savings as well. It is a great platform when you double the amount of stock horsepower, but don't neglect suspension and brakes if you get to that point as well. Everything has to come together to do it 'right' with a comprehensive swap. Best wishes to you!
@@stevetheodore_specialtycars Thanks for the tips bro! At this point I’ve accepted how expensive it is hahaha. I’m also planning on swapping it to manual so theres another hole forming in my pocket lol.
@@JebidiahSpringfield Anytime my friend. Even though the car makes me crazy at times, it also makes me as happy as I could be behind the wheel most days, and so of course I remain a huge fan. Best wishes to you on your own project!
I’m a Toyota/Lexus guy. So I had to tune into this video I had my is300 for 7 years now. These are sports sedans just dying for modifications I remember when no one cared about these cars in the US
So many other options that has potential easily exploited. The IS has the suspension setup, doesn’t weigh a whole lot , comes with 2jz, but it takes money to do it right. When it’s right it’s legendary but it takes a lot .
This is basically the exact build that I want one day. Love what this guy did with it! 🙂 Always loved the IS300 look. With a manual, and about 500 WHP. And the soundss from this 1J are awesome. 1J or 2J, as long as my car sounded as great as this, I'll take either onee. 4:34 The soundssss. 😯 The steering wheel this guy chose looks sweet. And I always thought the stock IS300 gauges looked dope. The wheels are dope also! Nice review! 😎
I'm not convinced of the cd009 for these in a street application, the gear chatter is considerable without a dual mass flywheel and limited heavier flywheel options, I was dead set on this trans but am now going with an ar5 due to the gear chatter noise
If I was going to build an is300, I'd never post it online...cause this one is already perfect. The ONLY thing I'd change, is the color. Maybe. Like...hard maybe, that color is decent even though I'm not a fan of red-ish colors.
In responds to the JZ block holding more power and torque than the UZ block, a UZ block will still hold over 1000hp, so it doesn't outweigh the benefit of a UZ and it's lightness. If you're making that much power though, you might as well go billet block, which most do at that point and have made over 2000.
Why under heavy accel does it have that throaty almost-sort-of a 'miss' sound to it? Just the design of the intake? I hear this lots in the evo's but never in a 1J ... idk. o.O? Any light to be shed? :D
The right size turbo for a 2.5 motor. Most people go way too big because they have future aspirations to make a lot more power, and the result is a car that has terrible driveability and is an utter dog on the street
The trans bell housing trans bracket shifter kit is like 5k ish. If u did the 1jz swap that would be another 6k minimum probably. Standalone forged bottom end with fuel system and turbo upgrade etc even more.

I dont think its unpopular to say a 1jz sounds better than a 2jz. I think most say that. As of matter of fact its probably top 3 best sounding import engines. Top 10 best ever..of course my opinion.
Idk why people think aluminum blocks are a problem. You will make 4 digit power with a 1UZ block before it ever becomes an issue. When speaking about ford 4.6s, the aluminum Teksid and WAP blocks are much stronger than the iron versions.
You're right it's a bit of a different conversation when we're talking Toyota engines. I find myself throwing the JZs on pedestals, probably because the rest of the hardware (rods, pistons, valvetrain) is tried and true for lots of boost out of the box as well.

depends on the set up your going for, a stockish 1jz set up with r154 could probably be done under 10k (aud) but its a rabbit hole and depends how cheap u can find an engine and box
I feel like we just had to get the turbo hot enough to bring the pops and bangs haha. Thanks for watching!

What body kit does it have?
is this making 500 hp on 93 or e85

With a 1JZ, it's should have been called an IS250, if the 1UZ one was an IS400. Get em both on and have a shootout!
I had thought about this on my way home haha. Shootout might happen when it gets a bit warmer!
Ha, I swapped a 3UZ, so I have a IS430.
Eh who cares
Issue is that is250 is a different car while is400 doesn’t exist
I am a Honda enthusiastic, but Toyota / Lexus is a great brand with lots of epic cars.
This one is timeless - always liked this model 🙂😁
Idk why you said that but an iron block isn’t a downside. It can handle the abuse well

it sounds like the turbo keep making too much boost
