For starters, it’s easy to spot the GT4 when it's compared to the regular car. From the huge rear wing and diffuser at the back through to the massive front splitter at the front, the GT4 clearly looks like it means business compared to its baby brother.
And trust us, the difference doesn’t stop with the looks! The GT4 is powered by a 4-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six which can deliver 420hp & 420Nm of torque, and it sounds absolutely gorgeous!

@@FrozenDung Panamera feels like a limousine, it’s really smooth and nice plus if you get a turbo or turbo S then it’s insanely fast. The Taycan is also great but the Panamera is a fantastic car in its own right.

You have to pull out the ring first to make the fire extinguisher work. It's a safety feature to make it children and Matt safe! :D

I noticed the pin was still in by the ring.
the 'ring' you see is the loop for hanging it from a wall. Current extinguishers have a loop and a bracket with a pin type hook
I don't think Mat wanted to spray all that load on the GT4 anyway.
@@srhoke false. they have a metalic ring that's welded to the tank neck for hanging against the hook on the wall. (and it's placed horizontally, and usually painted red along with the rest of the extinguisher) that ring really is the pull release.

@@zacjohnson452 Well, it's overall slower than a Volkswagen Golf-R which also hits 30mpg. So not weird to Porsche also hit 30mpg with ~same performance as a VW Golf R.

The Cayman in general is a beautiful, fun car with a mid-engine at a reasonable price point. However, I think most people definitely don't need the GT4. Especially when you don't plan on taking it to the track.

I am fortunate to have a 987 cayman 2.7 flat six manual and it has all the same attributes as this latest GT4… but I love the GT4 as it’s the same turned up to 20!! Love the sound and grip and in a different league on track.. love them. Great and fun review as always.
I remember when the GT4 came out around the same time as the BMW M2. My dad wasn't sure which one to get but ended up going with the BMW. He said it was the stupidest decision he has ever made 😂 if he kept the GT4 it would still be worth roughly the same price now as it did when it was launched, he would have lost practically nothing. The M2 lost £15k in the first year!
Probably even more now. Similarly-specced cars as mine are listing around 15-20% more than what I got mine for (essentially MSRP)
Yep its crazy how well Porsche cars hold their value, even appreciate for special models.
My M2 lost me 10k in a year as well, and i bought a used one for 40k. heartbreaking

I have the original GT4, a 981. It stops on a dime. Can out-break anything. Its what scares passengers the most!

got a 981 Boxster S 3.4 2012 manual. Love it, sounds & handles great and feel it’s powerful enough for UK roads. (311bhp) I reckon even the 2.7 litre version (265bhp) might be be even better on the road because you can use higher revs more of the time.

I just picked up my 21 GT4 in Chalk! It's wicked rad.
Carbon buckets, fire extinguisher and a 6sp manual. I honestly didn't think it was going to be that different than my previous 981S. Oh my hell. It's familiar, but so much stiffer and so raw. PSM on, your kidneys might hurt if you don't have glassy roads, but it's always fun with well endowed ladies in the passenger seat... :|
Suspension is adjustable height via spanner and There are several NACA ducts underneath giving air to the brakes and even muffler cans, it's super neat. The sport exhaust is pretty OK, but I do miss my AWE exhaust from my 981. Best sounding exhaust I've ever heard.
Pagid pads are standard, but noisy as hell when cool with the standard steel rotors.
6000RPM with PSE on? It's godly.

Also, the rear wing truly isnt that bad. In fact, it helps block big suv headlights at night.

Should do it with Michelin PS4S rather than Cup 2s as the Cups take a lot of heat to get them sticky, which means minutes of track time first.

The Cayman has a simple elegance that really grows on you. It's not shouty like a Lambo or flamboyant like a Ferrari but had a functionally beautiful with some lovely lines.

Easily one of the best cars I’ve driven. Beating out gallardos, 430s, 458s, r8s, gtr etc. I’ve had the privilege of driving lots of nice vehicles and the GT4 is phenomenal

Stop lying to yourself. I’ve driven the 2014 Ferrari 458s around the Nurburgring and I’ve driven the gt4 around the Nurburgring and they don’t compare. 600hp vs 415hp they 458s laps quicker every time

I have a 981 boxster, stick shift. I love the way it handles and feels in turns and tight corners, however these cars (cayman, boxster) are never great at 0-60 (althoughdefinitelyfast enough), but absolutely best in the way they feel and drive, better then 911, better then any other car...
Fell in love with Porsche back in Africa 2000 while playing porche challenge on ps1. Been my dream since. Now we in USA where dreams come true. I’ll be buying one in less than 3 years

That Porsche is so clean and new I can see Matt’s reflection in the gauge cluster
I feel like the Cayman feels attainable. A GT3 or GT2RS seems leagues away, but a Cayman or a GT4 seems like it’s possible. I would gladly own one with no concerns about the ‘couldn’t you afford a REAL Porsche’ claim. Amazing looking and sounding car, and I bet they are insane to drive.

Cayman and 718 both are very much a real classic Porsche its just that the 911 is the peak. Thats like saying pumpkin pie isnt a real pie, only apple pie is. Its just stupid, get what you like.
@@rollercoaster478 Interestingly, since making my comment a year ago, I've actually had considerable seat time in a 2016 GT4 (about 800kms worth or so) and can 100% attest to the fact I would absolutely own one if I could afford it. Sensational car!

I just bought a 2008 base model Cayman....great car! Think I would get an S if I got a newer one. Love the flat 6. No squeaks, rattles, handles great. My first Porsche

Imagine this is proper exhaust, then revving it all the way and PDK makes it very rapid shifting making this such a great car. Definitely will go for this over manual
Fun fact(s): on a cold start the valves stay open during the cat warmup sequence which makes quite a racket, and you can't override it with the button. Neighbours definitely won't be impressed. Also: the Cayman has a longer wheel base than the 911.

Best PERFORMANCE car in the world for the money. :) The overall best car is probably the Subaru Crosstrek 2.5 or the Honda Accord.

Videos like this in 2021 make me realise just how special the Ferrari 355 F1 was. Same 380bhp. Same "F1" style gearbox. Great looks. Great sound. Performance was not that far apart either. Yes the gearbox is 25 years older tech and a lot slower and the chassis is no where near as advanced but it was way ahead of its time. Amazing really.
The Caymans 0-62 traction issue shows where the 911 still has it, rear engine is king of traction. Mid engine is more benign at the limit. 👍

By the way that ''professional timing gear'' box has the function that it can give you the GPS fault in percent. It'a displayed in the bottom left hand corner after it measured the time and with this you could calculate the real 0-60 etc. time or something, saw it on the german '' JP Performance'' channel when they measured 100-200 kmph times and displaying the real time needed after subtracting the fault percentage.
Interesting price point too, at around sub 100k puts it into a unique category of high performance (super) sports cars. R35 GTR, NSX, M2 CS would definitely be some of its alternative rivals and closest competition.

I own a 718 GTS and my daily is a AMG A45s. My Porsche is quicker than my Merc on a dry road - I'm not talking about pointless 0-60 times, I am talking about overall performance, braking, handling, etc. The Porsche can carry much more speed through corners and on the brakes it is awesome. The GT4 would murder an A45s. Sorry if that ruins anyone's day, but it's a fact.

718 Boxster GTS.4.0 : Best handling Porsche period. My friend Paul Deutschman of Deutschman Design Inc designed the Spexter for Porsche which was the original design. Porsche recently asked Paul to design a new Spexter for the car's 25th anniversary. A special edition and it will be different than the 25th Anniversary edition. Enjoy! Thanks for making this video! I'm trying to get a used 2016 Boxster S with the 6 cylinder. If you can find one they're about $50k with low mileage driven by older gents that don't track them or push them at all. More like a fashion accessory. I will have it tuned and toss it around; I'm talking of course of Florida....Save yourself the $$$ But buyer beware, the average Porsche buyers spend $30K in options!

Such a lovely car. I raced a 981 Cayman GTS at Speedvegas and I told my wife we were no longer monogamous.
I had the previous GT4 which I replaced with 1 718 Spyder as I missed not having a convertible. It's a great car.

Mat, when you are going to launch the car I think you may have to leave the 6.2k revs for at least 5 seconds and then you release the brake.
Second gear seems to be too long for good 0-60 time.
The obsession with 0-60 mph times is overrated when judging a cars ability. Alpine prove that.

@@wronggg Yeah, when 0-60 mph is used every time you bring the car to a halt. I'd rather compromise a pretty meaningless 0-60 time for a more usable gear for fun driving which is what Porsche have done with the GT4 and 911R.

On the manual vs PDK debate, I have had both manual and PDK 911s (996 C4S, 997.1 C4S and 991.2 C2S) over the past 18 years. The last two have been PDKs, which have been fantastic. However, I specced my (718) GT4 with a manual gearbox as I believe that the engagement it gives me is worth far more than the loss of 0-60 and track times. I can't be sure about that, as I haven't driven a PDK GT4, but I am very happy with the option I went for, even outside of the (never-ending) long 2nd gear debate.
