The GT4 in manual with the bucket seats is an absolutely unbeatable driving experience
I’m a BMW fan (I have two currently, including an E92 M3).
Having said that, I would choose the Porsche GT4 10/10 times. The new M4 looks hideous, and keeps getting bigger and fatter.
No brainer, GT4 is a flat out street legal track car with that awesome 4.0 N/A 6 while the M4 is the everyday sport coupe with the nose that just keeps getting bigger.
Exactly, like a lot cars. The only I like now is the m2. My fav bmw is the E46 m3, all time which funnily enough is about the size of the m2

bigger, fatter with more power-means more stress for the tire and the breaks etc. with less performance. the only pro are the numbers. its sad, that the porsche v6 comes only in the gt4 version

His most iconic line, love the man. Out of all the presenters that have presented for Fifth Gear, Jason has always been my favourite, followed closely by the hottest female racing driver I know, last name rhymes with Paddler-Anderson.

Good shootout. Got to admit I prefer it with one driver in both cars. It gives a better indication of the car and not the drivers ability or suitableness to that particular car. And Plato is one serious driver.

Do you know why Tiff was dropped from Fifth Gear? I always loved the back and forth he and JP had on camera. Still love checking out JP, just wonder why they broke up such a great duo.

I had the previous GT4. I now have a 2020 718 Spyder as I missed my 2009 Boxster S. I don't like the manual roof of the Spyder however I'll live with it. Great review Jason!
Saddest part of this video is seeing Jason, who has a history of great wrist-watches (Breiting, Omega, Panerai), wearing an Apple watch :(

That's a great video, thanks for that. I'd virtual passenger with Jason all day, such a natural on camera and able to interpret and convey to the viewer what it must be like to pilot these cars (which let's face it, I'll never in reality get a chance to!)

That's most of what I got from this review.
If you had driven both cars without any form of preconditioned bias or preference, you probably would have done a lot more with the M4.
Preconditioned mindset to a car always affects the performance of the driver.
I really really love both cars, and won't mind having both. I'm just being objective here.
The review was fun though
Yes would have been better if he compared both of them before the review, cause now he was just look at the bmw after driving the porsche, while he should also be looking at the porsche after driving the bmw. But if we are just talking about track performance the lap times have said enough, but for everyday use the M4 is alot better.
That doesn't excuse a car from having bad steering that doesn't communicate what the front tyres are doing... That's a non-negotiable regardless of what type of sporty car it is, especially a BMW "ultimate driving machine" let alone an M-car.
I think a good 60% of the people bitching about the new cars never gave a shit about buying a new bmw and probably hates bmws in the first place, but they just act like theyre some hardcore fan/customer anyway, cause in the looks department if the m4 is like a, lets say 5/10, people act like its a 1/10 and then write a paragraph about "im a real car guy manual transmission manual transmission manual transmisson id never buy one and i never want to drive one"
I so do like when a Man can drive, so he deserves to present those two godges cars. Thank you, Jason!

They're good, but overrated. Certainly overpriced! Most people who get in them just parrot what other people have said they have no clue what they're talking about. As for driving them on track - rare and even then they're driven slowly.
If you haven't any ego, plenty of cars other than a Porsche that will do the whole fun thing, decent pace.
BTW no one cares if you own one anyway :)

@@thesingerdenel I own one so yeah. I've modded it a bit now so that helps. Running the non N rated Eagle F1 Supersport which is a really nice tyre and helps with the steering feel :)

And they are driven relatively slowly. The people who have these cars like to pose in them, not drive them. And I understand because most people have these cars on finance so not a good day if you stack your £80k+ car without insurance...

Yes, I like NA, but I've driven the turboed BMW stuff and the lag is minimal - impressively so.

Yep. I have driven the GT4. Like I said...No contest. Plato is no fool and electronics are no match for a great chassis...you might also notice I mentioned it was quickest LAST? 😏
@@Peter-Oxley-Modelling-Lab Ok, so my Cayman is modified and has superior suspension to the GT4 now. And great chassis...hmmm. Great chassis for the track and laptimes, does not mean a great chassis on the road. Most people won't take their GT4's on track and when they do, they get shown a clean pair of heels by someone who knows what they're doing.
My Cayman has gotten to a point where you can't get close to exploiting the chassis on the road. My 350Z daily is great to just chuck around and drift at slower speeds. NC MX5 is perhaps one of the best cars for the road as you can exploit it, it costs
I’d love to see Jason and Tiff drive tuner versions of these cars. A specialty shop version of the M4 versus the DeMan Cayman GT 4.5 liter

Brilliant review. Im lucky to have a GT4 and M2 competition and i just cannot understand people comparing the M2CS and GT4. GT4 is soooo much better in every way to drive on the road, much more on track where its a total weapon. The feel of connection to steering, brakes, suspension control and adjustability are on another planet. Jason has it spot. Sports/track car vs road-first saloon car with more beans to go fast...
GT4 is in another league! Brilliant cars!
It's virtually impossible to find any situation any car would beat a GT4 unless it is a newer version of it or a GT3.

One of the best videos from Plato. Enjoyed his technical commentary. The Porsche looked much more enjoyable to drive and being a GT model will hold residuals a lot better than that lardy M4 as well.

That Cayman GT4 is perfection. Better compared with the M2 Competition (Manual), in my opinion, regardless of lap times.
Also the M2 is a looker, like the Porsche.

Lovely film! Jason is such a hooligan driver and an absolute laugh, which is why he’s always been my favourite presenter on the show. Hopefully full-length episodes will be released again. Been a viewer since 2014, not very consistent since then with all the hiatuses.
2014? I thought 5th Gear had been off the air since 2013 until seeing this video.
@@JoJoJoker They ran from 2002-2009, then from 2011-2015, before airing again from 2018-2019, their 2020 season has been on hold since COVID took off.

most other small time reviewers would be worried about bmw never giving them another car if the bad mouthed it, 5th gear does not care
The raving reviews seem to be from the new TH-cam car reviewers. Motoring journalists who have been longer in the business like Chris Harris and Steve Sutcliffe had a bit more mixed opinions

As a drivers car they are not comparable, other than starting price. The M would be a better daily for sure.
They quote a 75k price for the porsche in the video, which is flat out untrue. The GT4 is 15k more expensive than the M3/M4. MSRPs at my local dealership are 103-106k. So... really they're not comparable from a price standpoint.

Two great bits of kit (as is regularly said), however I am surprised that the GT4 was that much quicker than the M4 Competition. I am pleased though, not a fan of this "new look" M3/M4 grill, so well done Porsche!
Its quicker in the track. But i think in the straights the M4 would get ahead. I have a Gt4 and i dont own it to be the fastest. I own it because of the driving experience few cars can give. On and off the track.
When I saw the g80 in person I fell in love but when you see it online it doesn’t look good trust when you see it in person you’ll change your mind.
BMW M is pretty much done since Albert left.
I love that the GT4 comes in manual, but the PDK would probably have been faster.

I was pulled over by the cops driving my GT4. I was only 20 km over the posted 100 speed limit. The cop stopped as my front plate was ajar. I got out to look at it. I thanked him he then said nice car which was nice, Anyway great review of the cars Jason.

Great drive. Spot on on the point, bmw needs to work on electric steering a bit more, new M cars are still fast but it’s not driver’s car anymore.

Look at Jonny Smiths channel. He does a brilliant chat with both of them together plus each seperately. Also a good channel overall.
Superb effort by the GT4 considering the straight live performance deficit to the M4. Both cars very capable on the track. GT4 nearly as fast as a 458 Speciale around the Coombe
Its straight line performance is very comparable with better corner exit. Remember this thing is only 1.4 tons with over 400 hp.
I would 100% get the GT4 over the M4/M3 .. problem is the GT4 1) is much more expensive ... which is fine the car will hold its value longer than the M3/M4 .. but the main problem is 2) Impossible to find one in the USA. You can go to a dealership and request it and they will say they have no build slots and if you get one they will mark it up past MSRP
