I took my Lyft this morning. Super nice guy, respectful, informative (knew where he was going and told me how long the ride would be) the car was in great shape, clean all around, nice relaxing music at appropriate air level. I recommend Lyft. FYI, I was going to take an Uber but their app crashed many times so I went with Lyft and i'm grateful I did.

how do you cancel once you have clicked the request lyft button?
If you go into the app after ordering the Lyft you have a limited amount of time to cancel the ride. It varies but it is based on how close the driver is and how much time has passed since you ordered the ride. If the driver is waiting outside your door and you cancel, most likely you will be charged the $5 cancellation fee. There is cancel ride x at the bottom of your screen when you have the app opened and are following the progress of your driver. Just tap cancel ride and that should be that. The key is doing it as soon as possible after ordering the ride to avoid a fee.
