    I just wish Frontier would put in an enjoyable game play loop for collecting these. That and fix the damn exchange rates at traders to something that's better than out right robbery.

    • @spartan456
      @spartan456 4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yeah. And it's worse when the forumdads think that if you complain about this at all, it must be because you don't want to "play" the game. I have absolutely no problem taking a lot of time to do Engineering. My problem is the gameplay that revolves around it is NOT what I paid for. At least make the gameplay surrounding mat gathering somewhat compelling. Honestly I don't mind the manufactured materials. You can gather up oodles of those by just blowing up ships. Bring a cargo rack and collector limpet and you're basically set to be a combat salvager. Yeah, exchange rates are complete robbery but you can gather enough mats by just doing combat and trade the junk for what you actually need in that moment.
      Raw materials and data, in my opinion, are the absolute worst. You have to land on planets to get this crap. I've never been interested in landing on planets. Not even way back when Horizons was first launched. So now I have to land on some planet and shoot at rocks for an hour. Cool. I wouldn't mind that process if the RNG wasn't complete and total bullshit. The first time I needed raw materials, I spent an hour at a geo site and got fuck all. The amount of materials is too complex. There's no reason there needs to be 20 different raw materials. There's no reason the game needs ~200 completely unique crafting materials. All it does is exponentially inflate the time it takes.
      I would be okay with doing some surface prospecting every once in awhile if the loot was cut in half. If I need 8 pieces of Telerium I should be able to get that in a reasonable time frame. When a single geo site contains two dozen nodes, and of those nodes there's 20 possible resources that can drop, it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. I would be okay with the completely non-compelling gameplay if it didn't take as long. Or they could just make it actually interesting and keep everything the same.
      I think Guardian stuff is some of the best implementations of how this should work. They require you to land on planets, but it's actually interesting. And you will more than likely gather up enough materials just doing one once to get the thing you set out to get. That's how this shit should work.

    Logging out of the game (to desktop) and back in again will preserve the HGE spawn. Going to Menu it will not. Maybe it was different when the video was made, but I just filled up on several top materials by using the log to desktop, log back in, low wake, turn around and drop back in method.

    AWESOME VIDEO!! I'm at Dav's Hope, running loops and hopping the boards lols. I am trying to "fill up" as much as possible and what my patience and sanity will allow. And once done there, I'll be looking to see what else I can farm. This tells me what, where, why, how. I had also converted my trading missions from pure credits to high rep or grade 5 mats, and that's been helping in lots of areas too. I have unlocked the Federal rank for the FDS, FAS, and FGS in just a short time, and working on some Empire rank now too. YOur video on recognizing the proper asteroid visually without need of a prospector limpet has seriously improved my mining operations. I have been helping my squadron mates to recognize them, and linking/bookmarking your videos in our TS channels. Guys are watching, and making huge leaps in their game play. THANK YOU BROTHER!!!

      Yup, I'm doing the same in Dav's Hope, topping mats, then going to the nearest material broker. Rinse and repeat. Boring, but guaranteed grade 5 mats. Same with Encoded and Raw mats ( Jameson's crash site and the Anaconda crash, not the Bug Killer ). Right now, I have at least 50 of each and a lot more a lesser grade mats. Took me about 3-4 evenings.

    I posted a pretty large Reddit thread exploring this, and I came to the same conclusion. For Very Common to Rare material, just farm Dav's Hope and trade for what you need. For Very Rare materials it was best to just pick four or five high population systems close to each other, and bounce between them. The one thing I'll add is when in doubt, do high population imperial systems, because if you get an Imperial Shielding HGE, it drops *all* Imperial Shieldings, unlike in Federation space where Core Dynamics Composites are mixed with Proprietary Composites.
    And Pharmaceutical Isolators are always used as the example of one that's really hard to get. You only need 10 at most for a ship (G5 FSD), so either go to Dav's Hope until you get 60 CMs, or hunt HGEs and cross-trade 60 materials, which will most likely happen faster than you can even find an Outbreak HGE that actually drops the PIs.

    Hey man. Just found your channel today and you're definitely putting out quality concise content!
    One tip I would have for anyone who doesn't feel like doing the rng-lucky-ducky method. (I understand it is also viable):
    Go to Dav's Point, farm exquisite focus crystals for material trade (quite a decent drop rate) for 1-2 hours. I got 50. That is enough for about 8 pharmaceutical isolaters. Thanks for the content mate!

    My January 2022 Experience:
    I was able to farm the same HGE for the same material if I EXIT TO DESKTOP (which I think Yamiks mentioned in a video). Details:
    * I'm playing PC/Steam, Horizons only, v3.8.403
    * This only works for the duration of the HGE you first find.
    * After collecting the last material at a site, stay out of supercruise and exit to desktop.
    * Restart the game and continue.
    * Enter supercruise and honk the system. Check your Navigation Panel and the closest thing to you should be an "Unidentified Signal Source." That should be the same HGE with the same materials, though in different quantities.
    * I've seen a lot of different information about what kind of systems to go looking in. My best (only) luck was in Federal / Election / population > 1 million. I found Core Dynamics Composites, Proprietary Composites, Proto Heat Radiators, Proto Light Alloys, & Proto Radiolic Alloys there. That may all just be RNG, but that was my experience.

    Very helpful video, thank you. All this would not be such a problem if the BGS would spawn all states. There are tens of thousands of populated systems yet almost all of them are in Boom or War, not much else right now. Previously we could find any state and it even made the hunt for materials more varied since we could bounce around the bubble, often getting to new areas. Thankfully I'm done with engineering for the time being, and hopefully I won't need to engineer anything for a long time, or at least until the new BGS works itself out.

    From experience it seems once a Signal Source is depleted another USS will spawn in the system, which may be a High Grade. So before jumping to a new system double check with the scanner to see what the new USS is. Also noticed in a wing we are getting a different list of available Signal Sources in the same system, of which i was under the impression it was suppose to be universal for all players. Maybe that was changed also with the nerf.

    Good video, but there’s a couple of flaws in your calculation of G5 mats/hour using cross-trading:
    1) these high grade emissions love to spawn 35KLs away from each other, not to mention you can only farm 1 or 2 of them before you have to switch systems, and some systems have none at all. All this yo-yo-ing takes a lot of time.
    2) Yes, you can farm any G5 material, but if you get random ones each time, that again decreases your yield, because you need 6 of 1 specific type to cross trade so getting 3 of each different kind yields 0 in cross-trade. (You can’t combine 6 of different mats to get 1, sadly)
    Again, your vids are much appreciated

Change systems, rinse and repeat. This paid off during my month of engineering my new explorer Phantom Krait, but I had to re-fit and re-engineer my Anaconda once I wanted to do the mining CG on DW2. Why would you cross trade g5 at a rate of 6:1? Farm chemical manipulators (g4) and trade up at the same rate. It's much easier to find g4. I just farm NPC's at a nav beacon in anarchy. It's faster and less boring than dav's hope runs

      @kaboomgoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good point actually, farm the gr4 for that particular gr5.
      I guess his take would be if he spent that same time getting only gr5's he will have more gr5's and can trade down for anything else he needed.

    I obtained the best results by :
    Fly into the system.
    Scan the nav beacon AND then check signal sources with FSS scanner.
    Pick up high grade emissions material. You may want to check the encoded emissions as well as you can always use traders to convert to what you need.
    There may not be any USS high grade popping up every time.
    They were never out more than 5-6Kls from the nav beacon.
    Check for new signal sources just in case a new one appeared.
    Fly out of system to nearby system, and back in and repeat.

    So the most boring part of the game, material collection, is now back to its ridiculous level of grind again.
    Fuck that.
    As much as I want to keep playing, frontier keep making it more and more time consuming.
    Small things, like being forced to delete loads of guardian tech due to chronic lack of space, only for them to release blueprints that need it all a month later. Changing all the engineering meaning all the g5 I had already done was basically pointless and needed to be done again.
    Redoing stuff that I've already done is fucking infuriating!!!
    Been playing the game for something like 70 fucking days and it feels like it will take another 70 of just killing elite ships to get that final fucking 20% rank to elite..........
    Don't get me started on the first mapped bullshit.

    • @kaboomgoo
      @kaboomgoo 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First off let me say how you feel is how you feel. You have every right to that opinion and choose to continue playing or not.
      That being said, I think you may have the wrong frame of mind on gameplay loops.
      On the surface it seems almost everyone is suggesting to make things "easier". I am not saying Frontier has hit the mark on that but the problem with ELITE is people not seeing how to play the game.
      Elite is a very open game, it gives you the impression that you can do whatever you want. However I don't think that is the loop that has emerged. Outside of just exploring forever, farming for x hours, doing what you like for x hours. That is the loop, I think.
      Here's an example. Farm your butt off to engineer a build you want to do. Then you take that engineered ship and fight/do missions for so many hours, then make changes to the build =farming again. I think that is the loop more or less.
      The other point I would make, is if things become too easy people do quit playing.
      I played a lot of the Division for a long time. Once there were no more gear sets to get and no new gear I quit playing. I still log on and PvP sometimes but with nothing to grind for I don't play much at all.
      I think the grind is the loop, break that up with what you "want" to do and it's not as bad.
      That's just my thoughts though and how you feel is perfectly fine.

      @@kaboomgoo I get it bud. I have over 80 days played in elite, had it since the preview on Xbox, done everything there is to do, and I'm still playing these days!
      The timed signal source was a way to get a single type of commodity, manufactured, a bit easier.
      You still had to actually find a high grade source in the first place.
      Then hope it had more than 5 mins on the clock.
      It was one small quality of life improvement that they couldn't wait to patch out.
      I don't mind grind, it's when they render my grind pointless, that it starts pissing me off.
      I wouldn't mind so much if they had just updated all my engineered stuff to the equivalent, in the new system.
      But no, that would have been too nice. 😂
      I love this game, but the development is snail pace and frontiers idea of gameplay is generally just grind. The guardian stuff is the perfect example of that. Very cool little mini game, the first couple times....50 times?? 60 times, not so much.
      This is where Frontier are getting it wrong imo.

    Why did Frontier even bother nerfing your original method??? Surely it was doing no harm to anything else in the game??? They changed the USS finding system for the better but have made certain materials even more difficult than before. Again they've leapt on what's basically a QOL shortcut, but have left far worse issues untouched. Sometimes I just don't understand their choices there, if the system states were working properly we wouldn't have needed these little shortcuts D2EA pointed out. I hope this all gets sorted out as the new system is a huge improvement, but we need systems that we can fly to, to collect our needed materials.

      Different design/tech guys working on different things. Some issues are easier to fix than others. It depends how much code has to be written/rewritten/tested by QA. If there are 10 issues that are on the to do list. One of them might take 3 months to fix, because a whole database, 3 scripts and links to those have to be rewritten. Another just might take 30min of coding to do, then off to QA. It's not just about what makes sens, it's also about impact, work hours and complexity of the issue. It seems you never worked in an agile or scrum developement environment, so you don't know what's going on.
