Multiple iMU miners have come to the conclusion that reserve level does not matter for Core materials. We have successfully mined Void Opals in depleted reserves. They were found at the same apparent frequency as in Pristine reserves and produced the same amount of chunks.

    • @DowntoEarthAstronomy
      @DowntoEarthAstronomy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

ok. I got a higher % per chunk in pristine then i did in other areas, but that might be down to luck. it just seemed like natural conclusion so i didn't do a too extensive chunk % test after the initial results.

Seems it is RNG based if you find cores though. I jumped in to good opal hot spot 3 times. 2 of those 3 times I didn't find any cores after 20 minutes of searching. This was all the same ring as well same hotspot.

    • @zgoobydan9484

Same for me. I mine Opals in a low reserve ring for quite some time. There is no noticeable difference compared to a pristine ring i used to mine before. I spend about the same amount of time to fill my Python's 202 tons of cargo (192+10 in bins) regardless of reserve level of ring. It takes me about 2h - 2,5h.

I don't even bother going for Hotspots. Had an Alexandrite Hotspot in an Ice Ring. But i didn't go there. Instead i went into the rocky part of the ring, and still found a lot of core materials. I probably was even faster than in the ice parts just cause fissures are easier to spot on rock astroids than on icy ones.

There is a massive huge gigantic enormous difference. Although major and pristine reserves are fairly close but those two are significantly better by a gigantenormous difference. If you aren't mining in major and pristine you doing it wrong.
If you have no luck then land in a different section of the opal zone or even try a different zone. You should be able to notice if it's completely untouched within 5 minutes of flying.

My technique is to use my mining Jumpaconda to fly out into thinly habitable space. It’s relatively easy to come across a system with pristine rings. Mine VO or CWD till you’re full, then Jumpaconda across to the best price. Maybe takes 20 mins more but you get a cartographic bonus!
Thanks for the vid Astro 🙏

Great video, as usual. Concerning the DSS, you said you need it at the very least to scan the rings. This being the case, I would also recommend keeping it aboard once you've found rings to mine. After selling my first load of VOs, I swapped mine out for another cargo rack. Upon returning to the same ring, I had no way of identifying the hot spot within the ring. So keep it. It's worth the small amount of cargo space it takes up.
Also, the market value at a station seems to be contingent upon the volume sold at that station, based upon my experience and what I've noticed using Inara. If I sell a 2-3 full loads at the same station, the market value drops sharply, so I don't think it has anything to do with BGS.

You need to up date this as things have changed since EDO has come out or remove non correct videos.
one thing, you all show in these tutorials how to get mass amounts of minerals, metals ect ect.
I did my first core mining the other day and saw a station selling VO of 700K, i went to that station only to find that they will buy for 300k.
I was stumped why, then i was told in our ED group after showing some images off the EDDB and station prices, i was informed that the demand at the station was lower than what i had in my hold, so which lowered the price of my VO cargo if i was to sell them.
Was told to get the full price from the station, you need to have 25% or less than the demand.
EG: if station want 100 t you have to provide 25t or less to get the maximum price they offer.

I find it easier to simply fly around in a certain cluster and probe rings until you find something you like. It’s what I did and I currently have a system with a void opal hotspot within a void opal hotspot. Only issue is it’s 200ly from sol. Luckily I don’t mind making a 10 jump flight for an amazing mining spot. Along with that the system near it also has a really cool dual ring planet with a massive gap between the two.

man, i appreciate the detailed analysis and thorough explanations but it took you two minutes of talking to say
"how much translucent a ring is, shows how further apart the individual rocks are. It should be dense enough to have lots of rocks around you to scan but not so dense you can't navigate between them"
    compare that to:
"when you look at the ring you can see they have different colors, like different bands, we have a slightly lighter band out here, then we have a very wide almost completely transparent band in here in the middle, and then all the way to the inner side we have a very very opaque band here. now the more opaque, the less transparent, the band is the closer the rocks will be packed together when we drop out, so in this case, because this ring is so transparent, that means that the distance between the rocks, when we drop out, is gonna be very great, it's gonna be very scarce, it's gonna be very much spread apart ,not making it easier for us to find anything, cause when you're running through the ring we're scanning less rocks at a time, we have to fly further in order to find a crackable (?) asteroid, so this might not be the best hotspot. That is the purpose of the video, finding the *best* hotspot. That would be a downside of this hotspot, it's in a very very spread out area where the rocks are far apart. To understand the way it works whenever the areas are spawned, when it's procedurally generating rocks as you fly through the belt, every time it spawns a rock it says there is a whatever pcnt chance the rock is going to be of the crackable (?) type and of course if we are scanning less rocks per second because they are further apart means we get less rolls of the dice to get one of those crackable asteroids of course if you're in an extremely high density area it can also be difficult because you're not gonna have as far a line of sight to actually see the rocks, they might be obscured by other rocks that are in the way making it them also difficult to find so finding something like a golden middle ground might be the best place to go i wouldn't be too concerned with a low density area if you have a very fast ship like a clipper because you can just quickly run through the belt and also if you have a if you decide to take a very big ship that's not very maneuverable maybe going to a high density area is not gonna be the best either because the rocks will be so clumped together that the chance you're gonna have a rock in the way when you blow it up (?) it's gonna interfere with your mining is bigger so that's why i would normally try to go with something kind of medium but probably because i use a clipper i would go choose something a little bit on the high density side but again it's really a preference you have to try and figure out what works for your ship build, but just know that the colors here they do have an effect on the density in the ring"
consider that this is easier on you, too, you won't get tired as quickly
i'm saying this with all the respect (took me about half an hour to transcribe it, still some words were hard to hear)

I managed to gather myself about 56mil plus a fully decked stock vulture before even thinking of mining so I wasn't starting off bad, I got myself another AspX for mining cos I couldn't quite get anything i thought was more defensible and agile for escaping wankers after me loot, but anyways, your video is smashing mate great advice. The only thing that doesn't sit right with me is that I tried your little sequence for setting the seismic charges and it doesn't quite seem to get it to the perfect level. I wonder if its cos I'm only using medium hardpoints for my seismic charges but otherwise I don't know. Got lucky and found myself a bunch of stuff made about 15mil and then went and blew myself up being careless with my time, blew myself up and it looked fucking awesome had a great laugh doing something I thought would be quite boring. I've never just focused on void opals, I just grab whatever gets me over a 100,000 per ton and have made plenty of credits. I'll fill my hold in less than an hour most days and consistently make close to 10 million credits per trip in my cobra mkIII. Void opals are nice to find but sometimes I find grandiderite or low temp diamonds are everywhere and the difference doesn't seem all that huge if I can fill up my hold in half the time. I usually come back with multiple resources and if I calculate time spent I believe the credits average out eventually.

Wouldn't it make sense for LTD's to be formed in colder, but high gravity areas? Say, a cooler star class, near a large gas giant, which is quite some distance from te star? Don't know about formations of VO's, but I find LTD's much easier, and still 1.2mmCR per. Does FD/ED go this far into location of such? I know they like to get very technical... And, why else would they include things like "Spectral Class" to find such?
Does a "double" or "triple" overlay area Really improve odds? I see some iMU (presumably Miners Union?) stating "even depleted areas produce the same rate".
Also see a lot about shape of asteroids - ur thoughts?

They should nerf this. Maybe make that void opals are worth 1/4 from now. They still wouldn't be useless but not so fucking op. U can start the game is first time and literally buy the most expensive ships after a day and upgrade all of them. That's just bs. 1/4 probably isn't even enough. Maybe 1/10. play solo, they spawn only when you enter into the ring, if your gargo is empty they go away and you can make your job. If you play with friends (private group) be aware if your friend enter into the ring another group of pirates spawn with him. I personnaly have some shied and beam lasers to kick them in case of I have to quit the game and relog later. When you load the game there is a chance some pirates are spawning with you. If they are too strong for me I quit or run away (supercruise) and enter in the ring again. More often pirates are 2-3 weak ships. But if you are very weak or armless, just enter into the zone with empty cargo, wait for pirate scan, let them go away and mine all you want in one session. Next just go to sell your precious cargo as fast as you can, avoid fsd interdictor or submit immediatly, boost and supercruise as soon as possible and continue. I suggest you to consider nerver mine opals in open if you don't want to be griefed by some assholes.
I am not english native speaker, grammar is certainly bad but I am sure you understood what I wrote.

I play on PS4 and for some reason low temp diamonds seem to be worth almost double what I can get for void opals. Is this something that happens depending on various markets? I don't mind mining diamonds, I was just under the impression void opals were the most valuable by a fairly wide margin. Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Edit: Theres a new station buying void opals for over 1 mil. But as of now it's the only one as far as I can see on inara. Before that, the best void opal price was only 750k.

I see no logic to go mining and pick the spot where the mineral cost is highest. You go where you can get truck loads of minerals. Don't you. Also if the price stays high there that probably means there is not that much of that particular mineral around.

yeah and make sure you dont need a permission to get into the system you want to sell your stuff. I recently had 80 tons of void opals in my ship only to find out that both stations that had a demand for void opals required me to get a permission (i didnt even know such a thing exists). I was boiling and decided to sell of the 14 tons of diamonds and just hope i get a buyer the next day.
When selling my diamonds, though i found out that the station would also take my void opals although they had no demand for it. Turns out they dont need to have a demand to buy your stuff. It only needs to be listed (valuable lesson i learned there). Up until then i would only go for void opals if i had goodpaying stations within a reasonable distance that also would have a good demand. Turns out that was wasted effort XD

    • @CMDR.Gonzo.von.Richthofen
      @CMDR.Gonzo.von.Richthofen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Just because they'll take your VOs doesn't necessarily make it worth it. If they're only paying you 600k/ton, it's worth it to find another station paying 1.5-1.6 mil/ton. Otherwise, you could be putting in 3x the effort mining (which is the time consuming part of the process) to get the same payout. Use Inara to find the best sell rates within your range. It will also tell you if it's a permit locked system before you jump there. o7

Void opals have dropped in value. Basically they are slightly worth more than anything else you find in the cores. I went out last week and only 1 station was selling them for that 1.6 mil. Everywhere else was 700k. It didn't matter really. I hit like 6 cores and 2 were opals the others 4 were not. Still made 65 mil on that 1 run. It got me my python and used some of the modules from my mining krait mkII
