Now this was something special. Never seen a batrep like this and I love it. No need to show every move and dice roll, just a general direction, crucial actions and moments and most importantly: atmosphere provided by narration, camera. The storytelling, the plotwist with that ona lucky kill by one cheeky gretchin... that made some realy awesome format for batreps like this. Firstly I thought that 10 minutes will be way to low to even show this little action... but it was packed, engaging and without a dull moment. Please, sir, continue on with this. Its original and very enjoyable. Wishing the best for your channel and you.
Wow! What a lovely comment! Thanks so much. I'm going to keep tweaking the camera and format to hopefully make it even more engaging. Glad that you dug the atmosphere too! You won't have to wait too long for the next installment 😎
@@edpaintsminis I completely agree with @rudolfyr1797 Most battlereports are long and boring because they banter too much and show all dicerolls....which is just not exciting. Just showing the action in a narrative way is so much more enjoyable! Also, your channel makes me want to play 2nd edition again
Your starter set and bulked up terrain are just GORGEOUS ❤. Great battle report, nice mix of reporting and narrating. Looking forward to the next ones.
Cute cat footage is the best way to finish a wonderful battle report, evocative narration, expertly painted minis, and enthralling story. 5 out of 5 stars in my book!
This is so rad! :D Full on nostalgia. I remember getting the Second Edition starter set from my big-brother for my birthday! I still love those old mono-pose marines!
Good to see some nicely drilled barrels! Blood angels demolished the gretchin when we played, only took a single loss, the marines got payback by obliterating the gretchin with grenades on turn 3 and 4.
this old edition battle reports are really great - especially when narratively done so well as you did. It feels way better than just 2 armies clashing together and killing each other for just some strategy points or such - the story gives it all a meaning, that someitmes feels lost in newer editions. Thanks for this format.
Nice trip down nostalgia lane! Being a SM in 2nd was difficult as a lot of weapons had a ASM. Also tough mission with only five marines against 30 long range autoguns. A wonder it resulted in a draw. Anyway great batrep. Love the BA Orange paint job from 2nd.
So many memories. Me and the guys used to spends entire weekends playing games. Among strong memories are a game of my Valhallan Imperial Guard bringing down a building on the heads of the Blood Axe Orks in it, the frustration of my opponent as my Blood Angels Veterans denied his Khorne Berzerkers the charge, a weekend spent with a LARGE group of friends all sleeping over one guy's house with multiple games going in different rooms the whole time with pizzas from the local deli cooking at various times of day, and one MASSIVE game of Titan Legions played for several entire weekends over a summer with 3-man teams across four ping-pong tables in a garage (I think it was something like 500,000 points a side).
Nicely filmed battle report. I still play 2nd edition once a month. It's the only 40K I play. 7:23 One thing, these guys aren't beakies. They are in mark 7 armor, lol.
Can't wait to see more! I've been itching to find local players interested in replaying some older editions. Or you know, for the first time for some of the baby players who didn't exist when 2nd was out. ;)
I'm not normally one for bat rep videos, but really enjoyed this one! Brought back memories of floor hammer from far to back in time that I'm going to admit to!
Cool little batrep, I was born too late to get my grubby mitts on this set and it's interesting to see what the introductory battles were like back then. It's also really cool that you get to put all those beautifully-painted models and scenery to good use. Looking forward to more!
Playing this scenario against my brother that Christmas in the early 90's was my introduction to Warhammer 40,000 and, well, here I still am obviously, watching videos about it over 30 years later. Great paint job and great-looking table!
Loving the content, 2nd ed was my favorite version of 40k still have mine in some fashion and love to play it with my old models..I actually came into possession of a 2ed Eldar army im going to be cleaning up and redoing as well ... keep on with the great content
Ah wonderful! I too have just come by an eldar force - mate of mine is clearing out his loft and found all his Eldar. Some awesome sculpts there and all the aspects. Perhaps that'll be my next project!
This is so well done. I was on the edge of my seat, waiting to see who won. The recording, narration, music and models/terrain brings this whole thing together to form a masterpiece. Darn right I'm subscribing! Can't wait to watch more!!!
I recnetly starting playing retro game s with a friend of mine. This channel is exactly what I wanted to see. If only you played Fists or Ravenguard T_T.. Still this is AWESOME!
Really great battle report, well done. And just want to add that the way you did those old paper ruins looks really good, love how solid they look on the battlefield.
This is fabulous stuff Ed! It's amazing that a game with four squads can be more engaging that a 3000 point battle report. Each model being unique and actually mattering is what makes it for me! 100% stealing this idea, expect a mirror episode in the same format for the WFB 5th edition starter set, just with an Irish accent!
Wow thanks so much! This has been so much fun to do and the responses from the community have been wondrous. I would watch the heck out of a Warhammer equivalent - doooo it!
I randomly came across one of your newer 2nd edition videos and decided to go back to the start of this playlist! Your videos are amazing dude keep them up, love these 2nd edition vids and your edits are awesome, great work!
You’re right, the scenario is great for an intro game. I can’t wait to have my 2nd Ed stuff up and running to recreate this aswell! Great batrep! Very inspiring and can’t wait to see more!
This was awesome! Love seeing the old Edition. Something about seeing a single unit of Space Marines taking on so many, even if just grots just feels so cool. I bet this small match still took ages just cuz of how 2nd ed plays haha.
I feel your pain here man. I got my first game of kill team done, i played a 5 man marine squad and my opponent commanded 3 chaos marines and 8 cultists. I mopped up the traitor astartes but lost all but one marine to the unrelenting siege of lead and a particularly vicious gambit with a chainsword. I sought vengeance and lost my objectives. Never underestimate the humble hipoints.
A lovely recreation of your game. The memories this conjures up, sweet sweet nostalgia! 😂 I played and replayed that campaign pack with many friends when I was first really getting into the hobby. Awesome work, thanks for the video and take care 😉
Brilliant and inspiring. I am restoring Orks 2nd edition as well. Managed to acquire one Bad Moon first and now am totally into this. I loved to watch this. Waiting for further videos from you. I think you capture the mood of the times perfectly. The music and your narrative, pieces or art and overall feeling of the vids is just amazing. You've got a talent there. Please keep it up.
So awesome to read this comment and I'm glad it's resonating with you. The next episode is nearly there and I can't wait to read what you think! Thank you for your kind words. 😎
Best comment ever! I need to work out how they did the effects on the VO for the space marines in the original Dawn of War - loved that metallic edge from their vox.
Great video. I have just discovered your channel, immediately subscribed. I like the miniatures, the painting, the nostalgic feeling, the storytelling. Absolutely impressed😊😊😊😊
I would love to know if the bigger later edition marine bases or, say, using later edition kit get in the way of proper 2nd edition-ing. I think the Centurions are one of the most 2nd edition lookin' models ever.
A great way to do a battle report. Nice and succinct but still covers and mentions the rules when needed. Have you done a video covering your painting of these Blood Angels? I had a look but couldn’t find one. They look awesome!
Thanks so much Jonathan. I haven't done a painting video of these guys, but check out Squidmar's Blood Angels using contrast paint. I used this as a starting point.
I "started" with the 2nd edition box. I was like 6 so we kind of made up our own rules. My brother said he read the book, but apparently not. 😂 Looks like I missed out on a fun game though!
So the question is, going second, why did we not see or hear about the final round of shooting from the grots? As I recall, the rallied grots and the other grots had the opportunity to manoeuvre and shoot into the marines forcing armour saves at least.
Hey! Thanks very much - glad you enjoyed it! You can get all of the most up to date 2ndedition rules compiled in the 'Battle Bible'. Just Google it and it is available as a pdf.

Totally agree. This was a great format, nice work 👌🏼
GWTBW. SPOOON!

This is amazing, love the card terrain and retro 2nd edition videos and feels of nostalgia.
Better than 9th edition...far better
4:46 sons if sanguinius encounter Ork snipers...
Seems familiar.

They're the best.
Good to see some nicely drilled barrels!

A tense fight, for one on such a small scale.
Great production value, and the writing was very quality! Please keep up the great work!
Keep those videos coming. A true gem with all the nostalgia involved here.
Man, that music fits so well with this battle video, I love it
I love how all the space marines are rocking earrings in early art
Yeah and on their helmets too!

It was tough, but the marines sure got battered more than I expected. Part luck and good positioning that the flamer and sergeant remained intact!
