Making an engaging battle report is actually really hard, but you made it look easy. I enjoyed it. I love how 2nd edition the armies are much smaller. Best 40k channel.
Exactly what I was thinking watching this! Feels like an old-school WD report in video format, showing us the key moments, some dices, and commentary and fluff along the way! All that in about 20 minutes too! Great format!
The retro paintjobs just bring me so much dumb joy. As a subscriber to you both, I think I've watched them take shape from gray metal. Keep up the good work!
You guys deliver the pure passion to the audience. It is so enjoyable, but.. the album cover of the goddamn BOLT THROWER on the wall in 15:50 made a day!
Such awesomeness! 😎 This really was like reading a battlereport in White Dwarf back in the day. It must have been a blast to play through. Also, the filming and editing must have taken a lot of time and effort. Kudos to both of you for all of the above. Following you guys along on the hobby journey up to this finale has been hugely inspirational; many thanks for that. And please don't stop at the high point 😉
Guys a HUGE thank you from Italy. A perfect work on all sides, excellent comments in the true spirit of beloved Battle Reports on WD at the time. I will surely follow the channel from now on. Hope to hear more of you soon!
As an Oldie Gamer, I loved watching this bat rep and reliving 2nd Ed, which is still one of the very best versions of 40K. Tyranid Attack is one of the best missions imo, so exciting. This is the first time I've seen one of your videos. I've liked and subscribed 😊 Now I'm going to see if I can hunt down a bunker assault bat rep. If I can't find one, then maybe you'll consider making one? Oh and do take more voltage fields. It saved your Screamer Killer from dying to both the missile launcher and assault cannon and stopped the Ultramarines from just gunning down everything before they even got close to their battle line. I'd argue that the voltage field helped the Battle stay exciting and cinematic.
Finally had time to watch this through. Thanks for making an incredible video Ed. Your narration is stellar and I love your choice of words. I hope we have the chance to do another battle at some point 😊
Honestly these 2nd ed bat reps are turning into my absolute favorites! I never grew up in this era of Warhammer and definitely didn't get into the tabletop side of it til much later. So these are incredibly cool to me and give me such a vision of the past. The games feel so intense and deep even with such few models. Thank you for doing these, they are so much fun to watch for me.
Man, it’s awesome to see a narrative-centric battle report that really feels like a narrative. My imagination is sketching 2nd Edition style pencil and ink artwork in my mind live as it goes on. This is now one of my favourite Warhammer videos on TH-cam.
So glad I found these battle reports, so far I’m loving them just as much as 40k in 40 min. I grew up seeing people use the explosion markers and what not and then I finally start playing in tenth and they are all gone so it’s cool getting to see people use things like that. Not to mention your narrative style at least in this video (first and only one seen on this channel so far) is very engaging. Sorry I’m late to the party, can’t wait to see what else there is in store store for me.
That really was an amazing battle report to watch. Echoing everyone else's comments, but damn, so much character and fun. Much more engaging than other e-sport style reports for me.
Awesome! I like how the discription of each turn was read, it sounded like reading the old white dwarf battle report and the narrative from old codex's. Great painting of Buffy too shout out to Matt🤟👍
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. These models got me through my angsty teen years and gave me some awesome friends. 2nd Ed. Is when I got into 40k from Fantasy with my Space Wolves... amazing times.
Blast from the past, but man watching this makes me realize I 100% do not miss how the game once played lol. It's changed so much since the ancient editions!
This was awesome to watch. I love the old-school feel and paint jobs. Brings back many memories. The narration also kept me in my seat. Do more of these please!
I absolutely love how immersive you make these and how absolutely into it you are. Really brings me back to playing through the scenarios in the 1993 box set with my dad as a young kid. Also that Realm of Chaos album cover at 15:50 is sick, Bolt Thrower rule.
Most fun I've had watching a battle report! You and Miniscape have awesome content. Never got to experience this era of Warhammer. I was a 5th and 6th edition kid. I'd love to play a game of 2nd. You guys make it look so fun!
This stuff is from before I was ever cognizant of 40K and it's so dang cool looking. I like the new stuff too but this these minis are so awesome! The colors are glorious.
Cheers guys, really enjoyed that. Love the retro paint jobs. Enjoy watching you paint them, and really brings back memories of my old White Dwarfs. Look forward to more of the same. 👍
As a fan of the smurf, the 'nids, and especially of this battle, i am very glad to see old figurines and old rules recreating it. Good work here ! (and nice paints !)
Your content is up there with some of the best 40k on the site. Your voice work/narration, editing, and topics are fantastic and you scratch a nostalgia itch like none other! Please stick with this and grow your channel!!
What a great battle report. I have been following Matthews hobby painting on Miniscapes and hope to see his Chaos force in action soon. And Ed. I just discovered this channel and have enjoyed the 4x Blood Angel reports and painted models. Thanks for bringing back the memories of 2nd Ed. 40K.
Probably the best battle report I’ve seen. You’ve really got the formula down for showing action, die rolls, and recaps. And excellent period correct models and paint jobs, of course. Top notch all around!
Absolutely love this channel and episodes. The cinematic style, narration and genuine enthusiasm is so captivating and entertaining!!! Keep up the amazing work, it’s great to see some of our favourite models from the good ole days back on the tabletop kickin butt. Excellent job 👍👍
The commentary on these games is great! Honestly feel like it really captures the fun of Warhammer! Maybe better than some of the other stuff I’ve seen on TH-cam.
This might just be the best battle report I have ever seen. Great tempo and perfect amounts of rules and personal flair. The awesome paint jobs on these great miniatures doesn't hurt either. Big respect!
Epic crossover with two of my favourite TH-cam channels. I’m really digging the consumption of 2nd ed/Oldhammer that I’m partaking in at the moment. I’m just suffering burnout when it comes to current hammer. The rules change so often, the editions roll into each other too quickly, with the previous edition vanishing like breath on a mirror, and units I love are being squatted for the new shinys that GW want to force me to buy in order to play a game I’m no longer invested in. I’m sick and tired of it all and am going back to my hobby roots, slowly collecting all the rules and accoutrements I need to play 2nd ed. Everything has com full circle for my hobby. The only thing I’ll miss is that some cool stuff like Tau and DEldar aren’t playable in 2nd. Anyway great vid, looks like you and Matthew had fun. Kudos on the fantastic content. Keep up the great work.
Ed, you have knocked this one out the park. Great painted models, great narrative. Loving the comments as well. Well done mate. Gonna watch it again no doubt
All batreps are great. Narration is great. Only showing important rolls is great. 15-20 mins is great. Keep up the good work. Probably best 40k batreps ive seen.
2nd edition Tyranids were such a fun mix of different designs and ideas. The newer Giger/McFarlane mix may technically look better, but they are a bit more bland.
Just have to say, this has to be the most engaging battle report I’ve ever watched, it has so much heart and passion put into it, it makes you feel as if you are truly in the battlefield in 2nd edition. Great work and PLEASE make more of these with tyranids!
Great stuff. I’m very much considering adopting 2nd edition as a game system to play using my Firstborn Marines and using my Primaris to play the current edition. 2nd and tenth are so different to each other and will both offer a unique gaming experience. 2nd is such a fun and wacky game system that allows you to enact lots cinematic actions where as tenth is highly streamlined (almost too much so) and uses a lot of abstractions to enact battlefield events. I’m having fun reading the the rules for 2nd and learning how it plays. I only played a few games of 2nd back in ‘98 before the edition change but remember doing some cool stuff. My favourite wargear combo involved giving a character with a warp jump a vortex grenade and teleporting him in to the backline. I also remember outflanking a Landraider and ploughing into my opponents unit of Blood Axe Kommandos.
This is so a awesome! I love both of your channels and these narrative battle reports using the old rules and minis I grew up with gives me endless joy! Thanks for my favouite 40K content ever!!
A beautiful battle report from one of the most entertaining editions of 40k with some of the best painted retro minis I've seen! Your battle reports are some of my absolute favorite out there. Concise, narrative, and focused on the actual gameplay rather than the side chatter and book checking. Amazing job as always
Nice work! I always hated meeting Tyranids in 2nd edition with my Blood Angels back in the day. Had entire squads wiped by a couple of Genestealers. Their close combat stats were super ‘beardy’, as we used to say back in 1998

YES! =)
Keeping it brief, not bothering to show us every single roll, yeah it's done pretty well.
I am so impressed of how much effort you put into this. Thank you, this is my perfect drug.
This is one weird leviathan boxset.
Good stuff cant get enough of 2nd edition colors and those old minis are just perfections.
This is brilliant. You're making the White Dwarf battle reports I loved as a kid come to life. It's like 35 years haven't passed.
Exactly what I was thinking watching this! Feels like an old-school WD report in video format, showing us the key moments, some dices, and commentary and fluff along the way! All that in about 20 minutes too! Great format!

Perfect collab both armies work so well together on the board, both look amazing with the old school models.
Not to mention the old school paint jobs. The vibrant colors really do justice to the old sculpts, I think.
@@Bluecho4 really makes them pop the old bright paint schemes love it
Awesome
Loved the line “My 2 remaining warriors, their adrenaline sacks dry…” cracked me up
This was top rate stuff

I didn't know either of you guys existed a month ago, and now I'm really glad you're doing a Collab together. Amazing video, thank you!
Now this is the 40k i fell in love with. Ty for this.
I mean this in the most positive way possible, I felt like I was watching an old 90’s VCR and I loved every minute of this battle report 😍
I love the older aesthetic of early 40K and WHFB, so much more fun than the modern games. Thanks for the great report, subscribed!
Guys a HUGE thank you from Italy. A perfect work on all sides, excellent comments in the true spirit of beloved Battle Reports on WD at the time. I will surely follow the channel from now on. Hope to hear more of you soon!
Love seeing these two great oldhammer channels together

I love these battle reports they're so good and just long enough. Hopefully plenty more to come
Gripping narration and editing. Top quality fun. It's kind of terrifying to see so many Space Marines die in one turn!
Man, it’s awesome to see a narrative-centric battle report that really feels like a narrative. My imagination is sketching 2nd Edition style pencil and ink artwork in my mind live as it goes on. This is now one of my favourite Warhammer videos on TH-cam.

Many many more of these please! The narratives of war possible with 2nd edition was what got me into 40k back in 1993.
That really was an amazing battle report to watch. Echoing everyone else's comments, but damn, so much character and fun. Much more engaging than other e-sport style reports for me.
Legends what an awesome battle report that was epic and 2nd Ed 40k is the BEST , Top shelf lads 🇬🇧🇦🇺

Most fun I've had watching a battle report! You and Miniscape have awesome content. Never got to experience this era of Warhammer. I was a 5th and 6th edition kid. I'd love to play a game of 2nd. You guys make it look so fun!
Thank you! Lot of people tell me 2nd edition doesn't work! Worked for me and that was a great example! Great watch thanks again.
Been watching Miniscape for about a year so its cool to have another channel to watch who does similar content
I don't understand how fear affects space marines, "march from macragge and know no fear."
This stuff is from before I was ever cognizant of 40K and it's so dang cool looking. I like the new stuff too but this these minis are so awesome! The colors are glorious.
Imagine finally bringing down a Hive Tyrant only to look up at another one immediately stomping through the door
Cheers guys, really enjoyed that. Love the retro paint jobs. Enjoy watching you paint them, and really brings back memories of my old White Dwarfs. Look forward to more of the same. 👍
Enjoyable watch… Nostalgia love for that old Hive Tyrant model.
That narration was brilliant. Loved it
YO Why does the Hero Pablo go so hard? We need a Novel featuring him now!
I am tempted to write it
@@Miniscape-wh40k Do it! I'd read it.

I love this style of battle report so much
i really love the retro art style of this editions, also the narrator with all this suspense narrative god...more videos like this please.
That vortex grenade is the marines answer to voltage field. That’s what 2nd was all about. Just quirkiness and op items, but the wildness was so fun!
This is sooooo old school! You have my respect for finding and playing with these minies.
Your content is up there with some of the best 40k on the site. Your voice work/narration, editing, and topics are fantastic and you scratch a nostalgia itch like none other!

2nd Edition was badass. I loved how long the big close-combats took. The granularity of the units is something I really miss
thanks for this battle report. i love it how you bring that lore to life (and the nostalgia of the old WD battle reports) :)
Yessss!!! I’ve been waiting for this.
Dude this is amazing! I love all of your videos! Please please keep doing this!
So much depth. So much flavor… so much goblin green! Glorious!
I’m super excited about this. I collected all things 2nd ed about 10 years ago and this is just what I needed to rekindle that original effort.
This might just be the best battle report I have ever seen. Great tempo and perfect amounts of rules and personal flair.
The awesome paint jobs on these great miniatures doesn't hurt either. Big respect!

I've only recently discovered this channel but it has quickly become my favourite place to go for 40k goodness 😊 love these battle reports.
I love these old school narrative battles, reminds me of my youth lol. Nicely done.

What an epic fight! I have always wanted to see a battle report of this last stand and it was fantastic to watch. Great work!
Love the classic color scheme on those gribblies!
I was unfortunate to have experienced this era of 40k 😢 (played WHFB) so reliving this via your channel is truly amazing! Thanks for sharing.
2 of my favourite 40k channels fighting to the death?! Oh hell yes!
One of the best battle reports ive seen on youtube, excellent job

Fantastic narration Ed, makes a huge difference with battle reports. Lots of wonderful retro vibes as always . Thanks for the entertainment! 🙌
This is a wonderful BatRep. I have such a hard time getting into these but yours immediately grabbed me.
I loved this battle report! It felt like a batrep from a white dwarf magazine! The narration was perfect!
I really love your narration and descriptions. These battlereports feel so immersive.
These are the best 40k battle reports on TH-cam ❤
The best battle report I have ever seen.
This is awesome! Love the retro vibe. I began during late 3rd edition, but this is still so nostalgic, I remember seeing so many of these models
Congrats to you both on a wonderful battle, and you specifically on a wonderfully delivered battle report.
Absolutely fantastic stuff! A masterclass in engaging and entertaining battle reports! Long live 2nd edition!
Best battle report channel on TH-cam
Nice battlereport. Brings me back to the days of second edition, where I, despite playing every weekend, never won against Space Marines. OP I SAY!!
This brings backs memories.
Managed to kill a Carnifex by casting Vortex.
Great job with the vid. Really captures the vive of 2nd ed.
