Hi everyone! This post comes with an exciting announcement for you all. Here in Minisodes HQ I have been quietly plotting to dedicate more time and energy into the channel, giving you more Minisodes and finding more ways to share with you my love of the golden age of Warhammer. As of today, for the cost of a White Dwarf magazine circa 1997, you can access my new Patreon. I already have a podcast up for your listening pleasure, in which I (amongst other things) give you the inside scoop on the channel, future plans and a commentary on one of my favourite bits of 40k short fiction. This Patreon is very much inspired by this wonderful community and I can't wait to start engaging with patrons and hearing all about what you'd love to see from the channel (as well as having a good chinwag about all things 2nd Edition). Hope to see you over there. www.patreon.com/Minisodes
One of the things I like about Oldhammer is that the models are way more relatable, because even though they are space marines and orks etc, they are mostly infantry, with just a few tanks or special units among them. Modern Warhammer seems to be so full of weird and exotic units that it can be difficult to figure out what's going on or even identify with it in any meaningful way.
I was having the same discussion with someone of a similar age to myself. We both had done 40k in the early 90’s and left but have returned in our 40’s. It amazing how a 2000 point army has grown. A army used to a vehicle, a couple of squads, a monster / Dreadnaught and a Hero. Know that is a combat patrol.
yes 100%. Also It felt like your regular dudes were a lot more meaningful, a squad sergeant could be a super hero and a terminator was like a god. Modern 40k, every troop is basically dice fodder unless they are that special honor guard hyper mega super artificer model, in which case they just carve through everything they look at and are basically unkillable until you reach the equivalent enemy character.
@@HeadCannonPrime i wish there was something on a bigger scale than killteam but still fairly small to where terminators and all can still be insanely strong whilst bringing dreadnoughts and light tanks too
People will hate me for saying this. But this is where 3e excelled, it was a skirmish wargame where the focus was on the army... 2e was quite herohammer and special ability heavy at times... But I prefer both to modern warhammer... 3e is still my favourite to play though, so much faster and very focused on customising the experience for yourself and your army but without the rpg bloat in 2e.
I love how he survives then the space marines gather around him and push the orks back. Couldn't have a more fitting way to see a scout become an astartes.
Everything about these battle reports is perfect. From the baleful British narration, to the eighties-style music and the pixellated cinematics. This is what Warhammer 40K was back when I was a kid.
i imagine its going to be another 30 years in the future from now and me and all the other young people playing warhammer now are going to look back with the same amount of nostalgaia you guys feel about 80s hammer
@@theliteralsun-k7zI hope so, mate. Loved watching this video. So much nostalgia. Still have some of these orks in the attic. 👍 Miniscape is also another great 2nd edition channel.
Man 2nd edition was such a vibrant game. The models really felt like they were battling each other. And the rules just naturally created such epic and heroic events. Case in point the orc wartrakk imolatimg the devastators and the marine scout defending the landing pad against a wave of orks scaling up it!
This is a Masterclass of how a Battle Report should be! As a lifelong fan (and player) of 40K 2nd Ed.This is exactly what it should be, the videogame shots, the Battle of Armaggeddon board game shot, and the classic minis. Great production value! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I absolutely love this format! The shorter, engaging style that has narrative flare is perfect. It’s a shame other battle report channels don’t do it like this. Solid stuff!!
I watch your batreps over and over. I can't even watch a normal one with no narrative anymore. This is literally the best way to do batreps. Keeps the audio so good too especially with the soundtrack setting the scene!
I LOVE everything about this battle report. The narration, the camera work, the clear dice rolls, the fact that you allowed to break unit coherence just for the sake of the scenario... Please, keep at it. These are the best battle reports on TH-cam.
I very like the tension and the simplicity, that brings more a story approach than a long and boring chain of rolling dices. Really nice work, and the nostalgia vibe is great also!
Everything about this is just so beautiful. The music, the story, the miniatures, the painting, the terrain. Most importantly I love that it is edited down so it is under 30 minutes!
Epic report, always great to see these beautifully painted figs resummon 2nd Ed feelings. What a devastating first round of shooting for Blood Angles... not sure about the decision to have the devastators stuck in the Rhinos for so long though. I love the missions for both side, certainly very thematic and leading to a great scenario.
Thanks so much! Yes lessons were learned. I was overly cautious with the Devs, which didn't work out well for them. Next time, I'll adhere to the teachings of the Codex Astartes more closely.
Really really high quality stuff. 40k is all about the narrative, and you guys have the absolute best intros! Who the hell cares about min maxing stats when uou have these beautifal models and epic terrain! Cheers lads!
Thanks! I think that it is well balanced, essentially the Orks have so much stuff that the opponent HAS to take great chunks out of it before the horde gets too close.
Absolutely awesome. The most fun I’ve had watching a battle report. You inspired me to build my own 2nd edition Blood Angel army. I’m currently halfway done my first tactical squad!
When the landspeeder missed the Wartrack I'd love to have seen where that multimelta's blast template ended up and how much the Grots bricked it as a result! :D Excellent report as always. I'm loving these!
Absolutely amazing! I love seeing your battle reports. The narrative style is top notch. It warms my heart to see such an amazing retro table and minis in an epic and classic matchup. Thank you for putting all the time and effort in to share this with us!
This was so fun to watch! It felt exactly like what playing Dawn of War was like, bitter and bloody, and a few space Marines holding on by a thread to overwhelming numbers!
I love this because it really shows how elite space marines are. Because seeing a single space marine to a guardsman is like seeing an angel. It’s something like 90% of the imperium doesn’t get to see. And seeing how small the armies were back then really shows how much more strategy went into what you did and what you kitted them out with.
I’ve never played any tabletop games. Just by chance I bought a massive job lot of stuff at a live auction to sell off, but as I’ve had to research what I’ve actually got it’s really drawn me in. I’ve decided to keep the space marines and orks to learn to play with my son. Your videos are really helpful
"Armageddon out ov 'ere!!!" Straight-side pint mugs make great flight stands, especially if they are made from polycardonate rather than glass; even better than mugs. 2nd Ed produces such colourful outocomes.
I wasn't involved with 40k when this edition came around, but these might be my favorite battle reports on the internet. The models are beautiful, the game is fast paced, and the little bits of flavor narration explaining rolls not just in terms of hits and wounds, but in narrative terms, it's just fantastic.
What an excellent video! Please bring more content like this. The music, atmosphere and feel of the old 40k all sum up greatly with each other. Cheers!
This was soooo good! The editing, dark synth music, narration, old school effects… absolute perfection. Thanks for making this! Subscribed! Can’t wait to watch more :)
Wonderful surprise, perfect for a rainy morning with a hot cuppa. Great game, I fell in and was whisked away immersed in the cool camera work and heat of battle, alas time flew by but what treat, gorgeous miniatures and very funny narration, especially liked the moment when "punched his lights outs" described a death, made me laugh so much. Love that Thundergit warboss model, so devious. That pile of new recruits is enough to make my mouth water, look forward the next installment.
Really loving the 2nd edition battle reports, it's the edition I started with so the nostalgia seeing those plastic monopose Orks and Grots, the backbone of my own teenage Ork army, in their vibrant colours is great. Also, the liberal usage of Chaos Gate and Final Liberation soundtracks is *chefs kiss*
Ive been waiting for one of these for ages, great to see it back again, i always make the pew pew nosies during each of the shooting phases in the vid. I keep seeing vids between you and miniscape and think about getting some 2nd edition stuff from ebay
Another awesome battle rep in a series of only absolute greatness! That plasma buggy storyline was a treat to experience, and just imagining that land speeder whipping across the battlefield is epic. Never realised how in depth 2nd ed rules were. Looking forward to the next one!
Tycho: "Scout?" Scout: "Yes, my Captain?" Tycho: "State your name." Scout: "Scout Johan, my Captain." Tycho: "Incorrect. You are Battle Brother Johan." Battle Brother Johan: "Yes, my Captain."
Loved that battle report, really fun structure and just nice to see old school stuff on the table. Was anyone else somewhat spun out by outro music being ArbitorIan’s intro music though…
A modern WH40K game takes me and a couple of friends 3 to 4 hours, sometimes more to play. At the end I litterally feel like I had the Sh!+ kicked out of me by a couple of accountants and lawyers!
Just excellent, such compelling storytelling with great visuals. Would like to see an ork defense, they would benefit from being stationary and having the blood angels have to push them. Maybe retrieving data from a crashed ship?
What a sick battle report, I hope we get more. Maybe do a center board objective mission with a nearly destroyed dreadnought the Orks want to loot and the marines want to recover. You could even home brew a repair rule and either side could gain the dreadnought mid battle.

That space marine scout best get a promotion after this lol.

Very kind words! Thank you so much and I'm pleased that you picked up on little details like the Armageddon board! More like this on the way 😎
One of my fave 2nd Ed rules is dreadnoughts can travel underwater!
I really need to get around to making some Aquamarines; specialists in subaquatic warfare.
LOL
The Dreadnaught of the lake?
A dampened mech dispensing powerfists is no basis for a system of government
@@malkomalkavian fantastic lol
I absolutely love this format! The shorter, engaging style that has narrative flare is perfect. It’s a shame other battle report channels don’t do it like this. Solid stuff!!
Man that lone scout just fuck’n held, and I bet he was relieved when the battle-brothers joined him in the fight. Just so damn inspiring

Man, that music from Final Liberation hit me right in the nostalgia button! Great bat rep!
Loved this! The death of the buggy and the rest of the devastators was epic! Games like this remind me why I love second edition so much!
I very like the tension and the simplicity, that brings more a story approach than a long and boring chain of rolling dices.

The Final Liberation music slaps so hard! Love this, takes me way back into the 9’s when I first started playing 40K, nostalgic af!

Love these battle reports so much! Please keep them coming. So much more interesting and relatable than the modern stuff.
This was excellent fun to watch! Loved how it felt like a close run affair despite that one-sided first turn!
Thanks! I think that it is well balanced, essentially the Orks have so much stuff that the opponent HAS to take great chunks out of it before the horde gets too close.
100% best 40k content on TH-cam I’ve seen all month!
Such a creative guy. And such a talent for making a complicated game feel approachable.
Absolutely astounding paintjob on those old orcs. Those banners were works of art! Oldhammer is besthammer IMO.
Absolutely awesome. The most fun I’ve had watching a battle report. You inspired me to build my own 2nd edition Blood Angel army. I’m currently halfway done my first tactical squad!
Your thematic battle reports are simply the best out there! I appreciate the extra effort you put into them, please don't ever change!
"Superb space marine-ing"
Indeed!
When the landspeeder missed the Wartrack I'd love to have seen where that multimelta's blast template ended up and how much the Grots bricked it as a result! :D
Excellent report as always. I'm loving these!
Excellent report. It got everything in it that made 2nd edition great. Can't wait to see the next episode.
This feels like one of those hobby-forum battle reports I used to read when I was younger, love this.
Absolutely amazing! I love seeing your battle reports. The narrative style is top notch. It warms my heart to see such an amazing retro table and minis in an epic and classic matchup. Thank you for putting all the time and effort in to share this with us!

So much to love about this video. Music, scenery, the narration. Best of all the models. Great paint jobs, so much nostalgia. 👍
I will watch every one of these battle reports. Keep 'em coming!
These have all been excellent.

Bill the Quake!
The narration is what really ties it all in a nice bundle
Please do more reports like these! Edited ones like these are really fun to watch and i understand the game more!

what a beautiful thumbnail !!
Thanks Eric! The first draft was not a thing of beauty, but I think this is the style I'll adopt moving forward!
That scout was doing some serious work, I hope this is his last mission in the scout squads and he got promoted to an assault squad.
This is amazing. Thanks for putting so much time and love into it.

All 40k battle reports should be in this format
Yep, once you see these the traditional TH-cam style is super boring!
That scout is now a full battle brother
Yes another battle rep. Well done sir! Well done! These vids always inspire me to get painting again.
I really like your painting! That and I see you gave a scout one of the old style curvy chainswords.
That is my new favourite video from you! What a great battle report and love the narrative commentary. Amazing work Ed!
Great production values. Love this.

great models, great paintjobs, great video. Love all the attention to detail, you got a subscriber here
Absolutely glorious stuff yet again on this channel. Your battle reports are the best on the platform.
What a delightful gem this channel is.
Excellent batrep! Heavy flamer speeder is bonkers against Orks
that buggy crash and explosion was so cinematic haha what an unlucky devastator squad!
Please make more of these! I love your content and can't wait to see more!
Amazing! Every battle report you make is gold!

Love these bat reps! This def needs to be a weekly series :) Rooting for the Blood Angels!
This was great. Absolutely loved the narrative battle and editing to set the scene, absolutely incredible stuff.

Brilliant as always, just love your style. Also mixing in the old Final Liberation music and cutscenes, perfect.

I am a brand new subscriber! Loving this channel and the 2nd edition 40k of my youth. Can't wait to see more.
I miss the older grimdark setting and lore. Thank you so much for recording and uploading this.
Excellent battle report! Loved it. Brought so many memories back of when I first started playing 40K keep up the great content.

That was really fun. Reminds me why I liked 40k so much during those (relatively) early days.
Awesome as Always ! Many thanks
This is one of the best battle reports I’ve ever seen 👏 👏 👏 Thank you!
2nd Edition was and is best 40K edition!
I really love that you spread the word!
Oldhammer? Solid production value? Polished content?
Oh yeah, I sub'd.
Great stuff chaps! Looking forward for the next one

Super cool! We need more those batraps!
Another amazing battle report. looking forward to more videos!

NOW DIS LOOKZ LIKE A ZOGGIN’ GUD TIME!!!
