- Here's another slice of Oldhammer for you: the second mission from 'The Battle for Armageddon' campaign booklet straight out of the 1993 starter set!
A combat squad of Blood Angel devastators have taken up the high ground overlooking the road leading to the vital bridge over the Skeletus River. After two Ork battlewagons were totalled by the Bood Angels' missile launcher, the surviving Goffs head out on foot, intent on neutralising the weapon before "da big push" begins!

The great thing about 2nd edition is there is always a story to tell, no matter how bizarre or silly. After some games of 8th and 9th I don't really have anything to report beyond than the final score. Thanks so much for watching and I'll keep 'em coming!

which is exactly why so many people left after 3rd edition. Positioning really matters annd the smaller scale of battles because of more micro management is just as fun.

I started with Ultramarines as they were on the box art for the six-man Warriors of the Imperium set. Gotta say, I love the lore behind the Blood Angels. Really interesting and nuanced I feel. Thanks for the comment and so glad you found the channel!

Great video. One minor quibble, they aren't beakies as beakies are the ones in mk6 Corvus armour, with the conical beak-like helmet.
Orks call marines beakies in oldhammer and still call space marines sometimes, no matter the armour pattern

Thanks Jubb! I'm getting lots of practice with premier pro of late! So the music is almost exclusively Karl Casey's White Bat audio. It's all over TH-cam and Band camp. Dark synth really speaks to me on a visceral level 🙂.

Love your battle reports. Its almost like watching a dramatization. Also thank your for making those terrain videos. Im building a killteam starter set and really didn't want to spend on terrain. Your videos gave me a lot of valuable tips and im on my 3rd ever terrain piece.

It's true! Yeah I know - lots of blue helmet marines on the box art so wanted to capture that aesthetic. It's feasible that the Blood Angels refitted squads according to the situation/attrition etc...

I was lucky enough to pick up quite a few before renewed interest in older editions kicked in. eBay is very expensive, but the oldhammer trading group and 2nd edition Facebook pages are full of reasonably priced minis and a supportive player base. A good place to start :)

Beautiful as the first one. Those tilted camera shots making it look almost like and action packed 40k commercial from the 90s really sold the nostalgia and sweet corny effect that just wibes with 2nd edition soo well. I am all here for it. Realy enjoyed onether batrep. Looking forward for more. And I am just curious how would modern 40k batrep look in your direction. Do you have any plans to play and record modern? Maybe start something with the arrival of 10th? In any case, I love the retro estethic and wibe you are doing here, so this is maybe a question for much further future, as I guess this Oldhammer is your jam which is awesome on its own. Anyway, wish you the best!
Thanks Rudolf! Modern 40k has so many moving parts and dice rolls that would be a challenge to shoot just now in terms of logistics! Maybe one day, but for now I'll stick to small unit games and maybe build to a 1k game of 2nd.

All the marines have boltpistols, but is there any situation where they are used? And I thought all marines, or pretty much all models, had a combat knife as standard too.
I know you could use pistol weapons in melee. If a guy fights in melee with a knife and a pistol, half the hits come from either weapon. This could matter when the pistol was a laspistol or bolter with AP or higher Strength.
An extra attack from double melee weapons (like a classic laspistol and sword, or two pistols) was a thing in 3rd ed's simplified close combat. Not sure if there was any benefits here.
The orks have bold pistols as well and a decent chance to hit. This is not yet the BS 2 orks. Sometimes ducking behind a wall and shooting with their pistols is sound. Without a vehicle or jump infantry or some later models that could race across the table, people like ork infantry will be more short-range firepower than melee.
The bolt pistols are used the moment they're in close range, as they'll be hitting on 2+. Also, marines can rapid fire with the bolt pistols making them pretty deadly against low toughness units.
@@edpaintsminis Pistols hit that well in close combat? I know 2e had a very different close combat system. Each model fights one or more duels. Then shooting people with a pistol when making and taking charges is pretty good.
In old Necromunda, I thought models just used their WS against WS, figured out who won and how many hits they inflicted and then hit them with available weapons. A model with two weapons simply divided hits between them. Like two hits from the laspistol and one hit from the knife.
Boltguns should have rapid fire as well. A model with a boltgun as well as a boltpistol would use the boltgun in a firefight, I presume. In 3e, pistols were generally not rapid fire and got relegated to
Five orks behind a fence with boltpistols is not a light amount of short-range firepower.
