    The Gen 3 came with sapphire Crystal glass and the latest dial have the lumibrite at 3’o clock and they removed the white square line on the date. Love mine the Sumo Gen 3 Hulk! Great review 👍🏼👍🏼

    Great piece Bruce. The green colour is really nice. Shame its gone up in price but it does have some upgrades. Milled clasp would be nice but I'm ok with pin and collar 😜 love the 20mm lug width. Love my Sumo (black). Cheers 🍻

    Just before the Lockdown I nearly pulled the trigger on this watch when I saw it IRL at a watch store here in England, they only had the display model left and wanted full price which I wasn't going to pay for an item that everyone else had tried on. I'm glad I held off, my SPB103J has just arrived today from an online store and I managed to save £115. I've a few Seiko watches in the collection as they're my favourite brand along with Casio and Citizen. This watch is beautiful, everything is flawless alignment wise and I fully agree about it looking black in certain light then pops the green when more light catches it. Stunning watch indeed.

    Of all the Seiko divers that I've owned over the years, I have realized my favorite is the Sumo. While my eye is attracted to the glitziness of the TAG, the Sumo has a more everyday look that makes it the no-nonsense choice for me. I've been attracted to shiny bauble watches in the past (Green Oris Aquis being the prime example) and while I love looking at them, I find myself never wearing them. The TAG is a handsome watch indeed, but the Sumo is the one that I know that I would actually wear.
    I did not care for the earlier Jade Sumo at all due to the obvious mismatch in bezel and dial colors as you pointed out. One advantage of aluminum inserts is that the paint used on them can be very precisely defined and matched. Ceramic is much more limited in color tone and it's why the Oris Aquis green ceramic bezel does not match the dial either -- something my eye is very sensitive to.
    Great review video, Bruce!

      Agree - the Sumo is very comfortable to wear and I always come back to it 👍

      Well said the sumo is the thinking mans / working mans watch , tough reliable, the almost zaratsu polished case separates the sumo from the rest of the prospects line and the unique shape if the sumo gives you something to smile about as it's not the 1968 re interpretation diver that everyone seems to have. This is just special beautiful and the unique look give it it's own class.

    I like the change to the hour hand as well. The old Sumo hand set, along with the 12 hour marker, made for a bit of a giggle inducing scene at the top of every hour...if you know what I mean...maybe I'm the only one who ever saw that and might speak volumes to my maturity level

    I have my sumo now. Really love it! One thing I notice is the bezel action, how it feels? I just started collecting Seiko watches I see fit. The new sumo is wonderful! Yes the bracelet isn't all that but once its adjusted to your wrist size? Its feel wonderful! Main thing I dislike is the bezel action. It sounds really hollow whilst turning the bezel. It also sound very mushy! I'm surprice Seiko makes bezel action this way?? Saying that? Its works well. I'm not a person who plays with my bezel often. Apart from that, the bezel is the best looking I've seen in aluminium bezel insert. Everything is just top notch, Especially for the price! Would love Seiko to improve massively in this area of the bezel.

  • @jorgerosas5138

    Have the SBDC069 JDM, similar and in blue very good happy with it, like the green color. Not long after got the SBDC053, which I prefer, and far superior. Had some issues with the links on the 069 and order a strap code Crafter Code Stiffish blue color rubber silicon strap, fits perfect, right to the where the lugs meet the watch, as well as ordered a Jubilee type strapcode which I need some time to fit, and size, not an easy band to install, the insert to fit the case than the strap, but nice to know it's easy to size with screws instead of the insert. Thinking I may gift of sell the 069, don't know. Between the numbers and styles it can drive you nuts, wearing my Alpinist at present. Nice to have a smaller comfortable sized none diver. I will say this, the SBDC053 JDM gives me great looks, love the bezel, like it also as much as my new style Omega Seamaster 300m. Several times more expensive. Got it almost new pre owned and sized by the AD. I love the Bezel on the SBDC053, seems to smoother, darker blue color then then the 069.

    I just got one last week, glad mine is all aligned perfectly from I tell... LOL I put it on a starpcode jubilee, it is sexy now. I would love a ratchet diver clasp on it, do you think the marinemaster clasp finish would match the watch?

  • @jiayaw
    @jiayaw 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Was browsing a local mall in Canada and found one at $840 cad ($636usd). Lovely watch, love the case design, dial, color ways. Only critiques would be the bracelet feeling cheap for a watch this price class and the screw down crown feels stiff and rough, the screw down crowns of my cheaper monster and Samurai are much much smoother.
    On a side note I was wearing my SARX055 while I bought this. So I got it sized and wore the sumo home while having the sarx in the box...low and behold I accidently dropped the sarx while it is in the box as I was opening my house door. Hopefully with the pillow inside the stock box and it not being that high of a drop (2-3ft) that it won't damage the sarx :(

    Only thing I'd change, is to make the lug to lug shorter. I've found that lug to lug affects wearability more than case diameter. I have a Seiko Solar Tuna that's 47mm diameter, but wears so comfortably because it's also only 47mm lug to lug.

    I just got the new Hulk Sumo as my first Seiko diver. I was wondering, are there any people here with smaller wrists than mine, who still find the Sumo comfortable? My wrist is 6,5 inches (16,5cm). For me it feels comfortable and I’m loving the watch and its looks. Some might think the watch is too big for me, but I guess it’s mostly about confort and personal preference. Any experiences with wrists equally small and smaller than mine with the Sumo?
    Everything aligns well with mine. After the first 24 hours mine is running +11 secs/day. I even managed to size the pin-and-collar bracelet with the help of a TH-cam tutorial :) I like the bracelet, it’s comfortable and good-looking, and a good match with the case. I got a perfect fit with the help of the micro adjusts. The stamped metal clasp doesn’t really bother me. I especially like how the end links don’t follow the lines of the lugs. This way the big, curvy lugs really stand out on their own.

  • @dustinr16

    Love the new forest green colour. The new dial (with smaller hour markers) and narrower hands give it a less cartoonish look (more mainstream). For $800 this watch should have a milled folding clasp and diashield coating like other Seiko Divers in this price range. The extra 20 hrs of power reserve from the 6R35 along with the sapphire crystal is not worth a $250 upgrade in my books. I’d pick up the older blue model if only I didn’t have 6.5” wrists. The Sumo is just too big for me. I’d rather get the 43mm Certina DS Action Powermatic 80. It can be had for $600, dual coated sapphire crystal, much more vibrant green, milled clasp with ratcheting divers extension and 80 hrs power reserve. Only thing it loses out on is in the lume department.

    I like this particular sumo having not found the previous one aesthetically pleasing at all... Which is nice... But I've gotta say both variants suffer at the end links. The end links look like they are for a different watch entirely. Look at the Tag and how the end links match the lugs of the watch in height, length, and finishing. Can't say exactly the same for the Sumo

  • @planetdee3587
    @planetdee3587 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Though the upgrades are nice, I cannot get behind the price. At that price, I would rather pive with the flaws of the older Sumo at $450. I love my gen 2 Sumo and will hold on to it. The prices of gen 2 are still the same so it is a good time to jump on them now.

    Great video Bruce, (As usual) I have the Seiko Prospex SUMO SBDC033 Air Diver (BLUMO) as I’ve said before it’s now loosing almost 20-30s/d ??? It used to be very accurate and I treat my watches very carefully. This new 6R35 seems like a good bet with the 70hr pwr reserve. Although I have the spron510 mainspring my per reserve is 50. Has there been any reported flaws in the earlier 6R15 movements?

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, if the watch absorbs a decent shock it can mess with the hairspring position, that causes the spring to touch itself at times and in different places throwing off the length and making the timekeeping act crazy. It is very common and will need a watchmaker to take a look at play with the positioning

    • @BenA_DD
      @BenA_DD 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yours is not an isolated case, my SARB and Blumo have both done it. I dont really care tbh, my watches in such a rotation that it does before I put it back on, but makes it a pain to sell and is really disappointing.

    • @jbbrabant
      @jbbrabant 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Andersen I hear you loud and clear. I also have a significant rotation so my Sumo only gets a couple of days wrist time at a time. BUT it annoys me to no end that it’s not performing up to standard. My Seiko Prospex SRPA21J1 PADI Turtle
      “Special Edition” Air Diver (Pepsi) with a 4R36 movement is 1-2 sec/day on wrist & 5-6s/d off wrist face up. There’s no excuse for the poor performance of my Sumo with a 6R15 movement!!!
      Cheers

      Basically dove head first into diving watch obsession lol. Went with Aquaracer cal 5 (nib on ebay for $1400). Then bought Oris Aquis. Then 3 super clones of Seamasters and Superocean - going to wear the clones and figure out *exactly* which one I like the best then buy 1 authentic. Super clones are so good now they fool Jewelers, it's unreal, and they're only $300 - 350ish.
      I wouldn't recommend getting the Sumo. Just go with something slightly more expensive. The Turtle (or King) will settle Seiko diving watch needs

    It's a lovely watch and thoughtfully designed. Green is in. For, yes, double the price new the Oris Aquis date is my choice for a green diver. The Oris is superior in every way save the power reserve. Nice review, love the closeups.

      @@krunalbhavsar6878 Right...technically, all watches suck at accuracy. In my personal experience I've found Oris watches to be precise with good isochronism but if you have evidence from a broader sample please share.

      Oris aquis date uses standard sellita movement and which is not even regulated enough even my Seiko 5 4r36 movement has better accuracy rate then this sellita standard grade movement

      @@krunalbhavsar6878 Again. Evidence please. Both of these are fine examples of robust utilitarian movements that can be well regulated. There are many anecdotal reports of excellent timekeeping from Oris and Seiko using these movements. There are also some poor reports. Anyway, at the price points we are considering here fine regulation and a guarantee of chronometric precision are not common or expected.

    I don't understand this preference for screwed bracelets. Screws loosen over time. I have yet to see a pin and collar bracelet loosen from movement. I really do not get it. To my mind, technically, and leaving aside loctite, the pin and collar system is the vastly superior one from an economy of design and reliability perspective.
    So I am happy they didn't. The diver's extension needs to go though. They dig into the wrist and are generally a nuisance. So far, the SARB033 and GS bracelets I own have been the superior bracelets in terms of comfort and fit. Nobody uses dive watches for diving anymore, so I wish they would take a clue and get rid of the token extension, and replace it with a full-link - half-link system like the GS has.

    My Gen 2 Sumo is a heck of a bargain for less than $500. This new one is just too expensive for a Sumo. Maybe $600-650 can be justified by the new movement and sapphire. But not $800.

    For me the clasp is ok just fine , for me spending $800-$1200 on a one and done watch to then replaced the strap is silly , just run with it , if you dont like the bracelet then done buy the watch. Stop blaming seiko, if you want a tudor or tissot or sinn then buy that instead. The seiko bracelet are fine simple, utilitarian and work well, it's designed for use. Any watch bracelet will have a breaking point.you drop your watch on the floor the weight of the watch will make it worse especially if it lands on the clasp , the clasp acts as a stress member so it will break if too much force is applied.

    Ho comprato il Seiko Prospek Sumo. Molto bello ma con una precisione ballerina. Quindici giorni con una precisione di 4 secondi settimanali e poi capita che in un giorno ritarda o anticipa di due minuti. Portato in assistenza, dopo due mesi me lo hanno sostituito con uno nuovo. Ma non e' cambiato niente. Grande delusione
