I think this is the best Seiko you can buy. Mine has blown me away. The quality, looks and feel on wrist is amazing. It is big. But still fits well on my medium wrist. I’m actually surprised it does not cost more.
Interesting take! I can imagine it being great with a bigger wrist. My scrawny wrist makes it feel a but too bulky! The case shape is really impressive and the specs are good too. For the (msrp) price I would wish to have a better bracelet and better fit between the endlinks and the case, but other than that there’s really nothing negative to say about it!
The end links being recessed like that is part of the design made to facilitate grabbing the bezel since the bezel is hidden except where the end links are
I have the original blue Gen 1 Japan domestic market only and will be adding this awesome green to my collection. In my opinion this is the perfect true dive watch and still under $1000
Thank you for detailed review. I really like this watch "fat" besel and relatively slim shaped side body line. Thinking of buying one and plan to take video together with my Samurai and probably with titanium PAM. Should be strong international team 🙂
I just bought the updated design one, it’s such a gorgeous watch! The green really captivates my attention every time I look at it! Buy this watch if you’re on the fence about it!
Nice review as usual, Anders. These Seiko Sumos seems great considering finishing details and over all quality (and are similarily expensive here in Sweden as well). Seiko surely knows how to make great dials. Personally I've been lusting for the Samurai models for a while now. Sadly both of these might be a slight too big on my broom stick wrist. When it comes to end links, I've seen similar comments regarding fitment on other channels. Pressed clasp is a dissapointment on this Seiko price point (but typically what we get from Seiko here sadly). Female end links is good though; My personal preference since it's way more comfortable on the wrist than those pertruding ridiculous ones. Anyways, a 70h power reserve is a great feature, and more useful than high beat tickings per second IMHO. My Escapement Time King Seiko homage model has a Seiko VH31 quartz movement which ticks 4 beats per second, and that's fine for me (a quartz second hand that's more kinda sweeping than missing the indices, thank you very much lol). In my imaginary fantasy world someone would modify an affordable high beat movement *cough.. Miyota 9000 series* - to a slower beat rate but getting a higher power reserve instead. Of course that will probably never happen. But I digress, sorry for that rant lol.
My pleasure as always! Thanks for watching. I know how you feel, I’ve also considered a samurai for a long time but hesitated due to the size. The end-link looks bad, but I have to give praise for how easy it was to remove and re-install when switching straps. I wouldn’t see that as unlikely at all! Both Seiko (6r35) and Swatch Group (powermatic 80) have put some effort in longer power reserves. It would make sense for miyota to catch up!👍🏻 Who knows😎 Haha don’t apologise! Always fun to have a little conversation, I appreciate it😁
there is no lumi marker on 3 oclock position. Mine has it. is it because of it is not 70 hour reserved one ? is it 01b0 ? it writes on 6 position. is it possible that it is fake ?
Hmm I'm not an expert on these models so can't be 100% sure. I would do some research on google and maybe ask on a Seiko forum. There are several Sumo models which have a small lume pip at the 3, but couldn't find a "hulk" with one.
Hello, I was about to post the same query. I purchased my green Sumo SPB103J1 from Starbuy in Australia. Mine has a Lumo marker at 3 (and my date window has no white frame around it) , I assume yours is like this? Perhaps ours is a ‘ King Sumo’ variant?? Hmmm
The end link fitting is a big letdown on this , as you said it looks like its made for another case . The quality of the bracelet is great even with the stamped clasp but my eyes alway go to that ugly step between end links and lugs.
Hi! I would say that the Sumo will probably feel too big on the wrist. I’d go with something else. I have about a 6.5 inch wrist and too big for my taste.
@@jeruelorillaza5417 I bought mine second hand and it was probably more than 1 year old by then. Personally, I think these watches are made to last tens of years, so as long as they are in OK condition the age doesn't matter that much. In this case the 3rd case Sumo can't be many years old because it is such a new model.
@@antonhallergren588 given the price i must say i have some watches that beat the hell out of this like my khaki field or my bulova surveyor or even my invicta pro diver. seems that this seiko watch needs a lot more action to stay alive that what i giving it. every other automatic watch i own seems to outperform this. even my presage automatic which was cheaper that this beats it.
I have a lot of watches from different price ranges. Yes its proven horrible. My latest purchase is a invicta pro diver with the NH35A seiko movement. Even this is much more presice than my sumo. I had a bulova surveyor that a bought as an everyday watch and even my miyota movent there is much more presice. I really loved the appearance of my green sumo but truth is truth

Mine 1 min slow in one week. Is it same with yours ?
Great review. I like the Sumo case design a lot but would wish it would be bit smaller.
Thanks! You and me both. Like I said.. sign me up for a baby-sumo!

Aahhh I see now! That’s a good point! Thanks for pointing that out!
Very good review! Thank you!
Pleasant, informative, relaxed...
Thanks for the feedback mate :)

It’s a great watch for sure! Sadly it was a little too big for my wrist👎🏼

I’m glad to hear that you liked it! That sounds like a solid group of watches 😎

Congrats! It’s a really nice case and beautiful green. It’s a shame that it’s too large for my wrist.

Beautiful watch!
The case shape is strikingly nice! Also love the shade of green👍🏻

Could also be some differences with the models sent to different markets around the world. Not sure I'm afraid!
Nice review sir, my wrist is 7 inches. Can it fit into my wrist ?
Thank you! I think that will be a fine fit :)
The end link fitting is a big letdown on this , as you said it looks like its made for another case . The quality of the bracelet is great even with the stamped clasp but my eyes alway go to that ugly step between end links and lugs.
Ain't that the truth..
Thailand can get new Seiko Sumo SPB101J about 400-450 euros.
That’s a nice deal!
Yes. Look like must buy, but im not sure that size, Because even bigger than Turtle.🤔
Yes it's quite a hefty watch, I can confirm that.
Your wrist size?
16,5cm! :)
I have a wrist of 5.2 inches how will it look on my wrist?

awesome 👍
Thank you!
Nice prices for 2nd hand sumo
Indeed! Constantly see 2nd or 3rd gen Sumos here between 300-400 euros. That’s a great deal!

Great looking watch HORRIBLE engine inside.. extremely low power reserve in the competition. horrible for days at work
I mean.. it's quite standard, but horrible? O_o
70 h power reserve bad? So Rolex and Tudor suck? The 6r35 is an incredibly reliable movement. Exactly what a watch like a seiko needs.

Its not only a power reserve issue but both presision and power reserve and how much the engine is strugling to charge that reserve
Great review
Thank you mate!🙌🏼
