The Seiko Sumo in my opinion is one of the best that Seiko has to offer. I have the original Gen1 pre prospex Japanese domestic market only Blumo and just added this green Hulk and gotta say the green is soooooo good! I have a 7 inch wrist and have no problems wearing a Sumo.
Great review. Stunning watch! So much better in the flesh. Some great 2022 prices out there. It punches well above its weight. Definitely a favourite in my Seiko collection. Definitely a satisfying purchase.
I love the Sumo! I'm glad sapphire is becoming a norm. I would pick up one if I didn't already own two of the last gen (black and coral blue both modded w sapphire and 24mm Strapcodes). There's something about the Sumo it just wears so great. It stays put on the back of the wrist. Love the new hands.
Mines in the post mate! Never liked alu bezel but this one is unbelievelably good looking! The case of the sumo is the best case design I've seen on a divers watch! Even my rolex sports case watches can't come near it! Love it!!!
Beautiful. Wish it came with a good quartz mvt. I understand the allure of mechanical mvts, but I have a 33 year-old Seiko Sport 150 that I wore for over 20 years 24x7 that still keeps perfect time. It is sun-worn and the band is stretched a bit, but what a reliable machine. 14 years ago, on a visit for a new battery and caseback seal, a watch dealer told me that the unit would probably out live me, which impressed me quite a bit.
I love mine... my first Seiko and currently one of my favourite watches. But the bracelet is not to my liking. IMHO it feels really cheap. Picked up a crafterblue silicon in black which is excellent but doesn’t ‘pop’ the green so Going to try a strapcode next.
finally took the time (2hours) regulating this Sumo, it has lost 6 seconds in three full days and when dial down off wrist overnight it gets back to time, it's crazy accurate now. when i received it it ran +30 amp180 ms8.4 now amp245 ms.04 +15 but doesn't run plus 15 on wrist, anyways, upvoted!!
Forrest Sumo, ..., Hulk are the other ones with the crown ... 😎 ... this watch is such a beauty and wears so great on that bracelet. The clasp is very good, perfect in function and most important, genuine Seiko.
My Orient Triton has a sapphire crystal in a power Reserve indicator for 325 bucks. I think it's a great watch for the price. However I will be looking to buy this green Sumo if I can get it for the right price. Thank you for another great video Rob.
The Sumo is an awesome watch. I have a “Blumo” and will never part with it. The new Sumo is more expensive, but now has a better movement and Sapphire. Seiko offers so much in terms of longevity... I have Seikos that are 50 years old and my watchmaker can still find the parts needed to maintain them. This needs to be kept in mind when buying micro brands. I agree Rob... lack of a milled clap is not a big deal. Pressed claps are much thinner and comfortable on wrist.
I’ve got this exact watch on a Strapcode Angus Jubilee... - love how the dial and bracelet plays with the light - feels better built than my two Omegas (Planet Ocean and Seamaster 300M) - I’ve been wearing it much more than my Omegas - looks better than my Planet Ocean and just as eye catching as my electric blue Seamaster 300M To me it’s like a factory modded SKX... with all the right fancy parts.
on my wish list stunning model better than the standard black or blue (coral) sumo model. The green is an excellent move from seiko to release this watch in. I hope that, like a monster or samurai, the lugs taper down sharply making it a good fit.
For $850 MSRP this should have the milled clasp and Diashield coating like other Seiko divers in this price range. Seiko is going to price themselves out of existence. I prefer the look overall of the older Sumos.
Apart from looking nicer what's the big deal with milled clasps? You don't even see them when wearing the watch. Also price rises don't seem to be affecting any other watch manufacturer do why do you single out Seiko?
Hmmm - you watch has the marker and chapter ring not aligned at 6 o'clock - mine was one of 5 pieces the AD had and I checked them all - mine has a slight date wheel misalignment but at least the chapter ring and indices are aligned - don't understand the Seiko quality control. Love the watch in general but a there should really be a milled clasp for this price too.
Tennessee Mike considering there was an inscribed crown on the old Sumo, and there was even a milled clasp on the Sarb033 and 035, it makes you wonder whether Seiko designers and management really understand what many watch buyers really want in a watch at a certain price point.
Was browsing a local mall in Canada and found one at $840 cad ($636usd). Lovely watch, love the case design, dial, color ways. Only critiques would be the bracelet feeling cheap for a watch this price class and the screw down crown feels stiff and rough, the screw down crowns of my cheaper monster and Samurai are much much smoother. On a side note I was wearing my SARX055 while I bought this. So I got it sized and wore the sumo home while having the sarx in the box...low and behold I accidently dropped the sarx while it is in the box as I was opening my house door. Hopefully with the pillow inside the stock box and it not being that high of a drop (2-3ft) that it won't damage the sarx :(
@@josephcastillo6742 Oh I hear you! I've got on my Oris 65 at the moment--beautiful watch, but a short 38 hours of power. My daily wearer, it looks way nicer than its price point.
I own a second generation Blumo and I’ve tried this watch on and the new black one on at a local jeweler and I’m not feeling it at all. To me the slight cosmetic changes are just enough to make it not a Sumo to me. Even with the upgraded movement and sapphire crystal I still like my Blumo better. I also believe it doesn’t justify an almost $350 price increase.
Does this look more premium on wrist I'm comparison to say a Steinhart OVM? Wondering whether to change one out and bring something new in, although I do like my OVM, though I now prefer watches with a date function.

You're lucky you got to enjoy these watches at those prices! Even now I feel the new gen sumo prices are still very reasonable! A pint of milk was cheaper last week. That clasp nowadays should be unacceptable. I would rather go micro than get a seiko. Micro brands have so much more to offer.
