Great question! Yes you could compensate by running port injection paired with a TU pump for example. Although port injection is only activated when the engine needs more fuel whereas a fuel pump has a constant flow of fuel. But nonetheless, yea you could do it that way!
This was a very good straight forward breakdown of the different tune levels. I'm about to d a stage 1 Mhd to begin with in my x5 xdrive 40i m sport and then who knows, potential with this engine is unreal.
I know the b58 is underrated in terms of crank hp vs whp but in no case is an engine rated at 320hp crank going to make 300hp at the wheels. I get that bmw typically rates their engines pretty close to whp (don’t get me started on “Porsche hp” since they typically underrate by close to 20%) but that estimate is extremely bad. You typically get 10-15% drivetrain loss when you measure at the wheels. I have an x3 m40i and can say for sure that the 382hp rating is bullshit and it feels much closer to 410-430hp crank.
Very informative video, I have a B58 (1st gen) on a 740i. I am new to the BMW community. I have found very little on the 740s, but I am glad the engine is in several vehicles to get the information necessary to do the modifications. Thanks for the information.
Coming out of the racing world, the first thing we would upgrade is our brakes. As a minimum, you need to upgrade your brake fluid to one with a high temperature rating like ATE Racing Blue. Consider upgraded brake pads, as well. It’s great to go fast, but it’s more important to be able to stop.
Bro how is happening to yall man, I'm tuned and beat the living shyt outta this car and doing tons of drag racing and my car is still running fine after 3 years of very harsh driving, you can find my racing on samcarlegion youtube channel.

14:31 Great mod coverage. Thanks. Did you tune the transmission as well? Any thoughts on differential? Seems a few are staying with standard rear drive Stage 1/2?
glad i watched this video, i just bought a used one and everyone wants me to tune it so bad lol. but i wanted to do regular maintenance first to see how it runs. everything is good its been fine drives good, changed all fluids havent changed sparks yet. But now im running into a little of a rough idle, sometimes rpms drop slight and jump up like a misfire almost. any ideas ? other than spark and coil
also plugged it up to a computer, no codes ,no check engine, no deleted codes. Going to do coil and spark just because but if that isnt it im thinking a, air fuel issue
I find out that after I upgrade my gen 1 HPFP to TU fuel pump, the idle speed has been reduced from around 1100 to 700RPM.😢 Did this happened to you as well?
BMW usually under rates their engines in terms of horsepower. That's probably why it came out like that. If I were you, I would start modding it and get to experience the full power and opportunities that the b-58 motor will have for you once you give it that proper love that it needs.
@@zekekilbourne hey, since this post, i am full on stage 2 with bolt on's. I love the car, BUT now i cannot put down any power with stock wheel size... there is always something that neeeds to be done. Probably 440 wheel at this point.
So whats the difference between stage 1 and stage 2. I am in europe and the only gas options we have is 95/98/100 octane. So dont undertand the e or 85 you refer to.
The EU uses a different fuel rating system than the us, that's why you probably don't understand that. I would look up the difference and see what you can find. Doing your research is very important, so I would start there if I were you.
I’m not the most knowledgeable about BMW tuning but from what I’ve heard Stage 1 is just a simple computer tune up and stage 2 is a computer tune with bolt ons and simple mods like air intake, new exhaust etc.

320 crank does not equate to 300 at the wheel but these BMW engines seem about 10% underrated
I've just had a injector stuck open on mine and it cracked a piston. Luckily no damage to the block.

@Metoy3r when you did the Pure Turbo upgrade (as I'm planning on sping the same) did you do any other supporting mods?

Correct, neither require a transmission tune but getting one will definitely makes those shifts that much faster

You know them B58 engines are great motors Toyota to use them.

How many revisions did it take to complete the custom tune by Sameh? And how long did it take to get each rivision?
So instead of starting with the tu hpfp can you just jump straight to the stage 2 dorch
Any tune will require unlock which will require sendinf to femto right ?
What about the transmission? tunes reliability? i understand the video is about the b58.
Do bmws 340is tune their transmission ? Like VW and Audis do ?? I’m from their platform new to BMW
how would i go about upgrading my driveshaft? also what are you opinions on meth injection because e85 is not available where i am. thanks
how important would it be to get the xhp transmission flash/ and or is it nessecary?
I wouldn’t say important or needed but if you’re trying to lower 0-60 times or even 1/4 mile times it helps tremendously
Anything above 600wtq you need a trans rebuild or limit it with xhp

No that’s weird, I didn’t run into that problem
Did you end up figuring out the issue?
Doesn’t 1000+ rpm at idle indicate a problem with the spark plugs or fuel pump?

The torque makes a huge difference tbh! Same with the turbo, hits different than naturally aspirated
